Le’Veon Bell… For 2019?

March 7th, 2018

Beware of dreams.

Now if Joe dared to dream, the ultimate scenario — outside of wrestling with Rachel Watson — would be that the Bucs could get free agent Le’Veon Bell of the Steelers.

Now yeah, the Steelers have slapped the franchise tag on him but the important thing to remember is that along with Bell’s squawking about getting tagged and more threats of retirement, he has yet to sign a contract. In theory, this means the Steelers could trade him.

Joe can’t imagine the haul Art Rooney II would be seeking in return for Bell.

But the dream for Bell coming to Tampa Bay is not dead, types Matt Bowen of BSPN. Bowen is of the mind Bell will indeed play for the Steelers this season and after that, adios Steel City; hello Tampa Bay.

But for now, I’ll say the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where Bell signs a multiyear deal with a value that reflects his impact on the game and rare versatility for the position.

Initially, this brought a smile to Joe’s face. Then, upon a moment of thought, it scared Joe.

Why, in 2019, would the Bucs throw open the door to Team Glazer’s vault to lure Bell? That means running back would still be a severe hole in the roster. And that is not good whatsoever.

If the Bucs offense is so one-dimensional (again) this season, it’s fair to guess the Bucs would once again struggle to score points and, thus, may have yet another losing season.

If Bell is on the Bucs roster in 2019, Joe has a hunch it would come after an organizational housecleaning.

We could completely revamp our Secondary with the addition of Richard Sherman and Trumaine Johnson. We could put Hargreaves where he belongs, in the slot, and Ryan Smith would never have to see the field.

Licht has zero excuse for not going after and getting this guy.

Just because he is FA doesn’t mean he will come here.

Even Rachel is too old now….

Lame duck year for the franchise. We are not going to make any splash moves in FA or the draft. No one wants to come play for a coach and GM that will most likely be fired after this year.

Bennett going to the Eagles is just proof of that. Glazers are not allowing Licht to do anything.

Not happening. And besides, the Bucs need a run game in 2018.

Say it with me now….SA-QUON, SA-QUON.

    Draft capital still intact!

Go Bucs! Go Barkley! Go Bold! Go Primetime!

I agree……players know this staff is on the hot seat so why bother with this mess…..

owners know they want new coaches so they’ll handcuff this staff, secure a high pick and have loads of money for the next coach/GM to work with…..

Nor has he signed the franchise tag contract; without doing that, he won’t need to go to camp or be subject to fines because he is not on their roster, technically. And neither can he be traded.

This is a great idea. At least the Bucs would not have to see Bell quit on them in 2018, it would delay the inevitable by a year.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Bell gets older by the year, if the Bucs really did want him they should make an offer to the Steelers, it wouldn’t be a huge offer, maybe a 2nd and a 4th, the idea would be that the Steelers don’t want to pay him and he doesn’t want to be there, so perhaps they’d take the deal to get rid of the headache. I’m not sure if Steelers would do it or not, if they really are sick of his whinning they might. As for those saying just wait a year and get him for free… Bell isn’t coming to Tampa next year when they will probably fire everyone and start over yet again. Go get the guy if you want him and try to win right now.

    F Bell!!

I think if the Bucs want Bell, they’ll need to TRADE for him now .. Green Bay, Seattle, Cleveland or even the always active Eagles could beat them to it though …
