I wanted to give a B+, but no option for that, so I gave Jason a B
Plus I gave him Kudos for having a Beer with someone he just signed.
I have a hard time trusting anyone who don’t drink Beer.
I gave him a B because he saw our main weakness, like we all did, and totally revamped the DL. He cut the older guys on the DL who might just be looking for a last paycheck, and Swaggy, because he was just a complete douche. The only thing about hard knocks that was really embarrassing after the fact, was watching Baker laughing at the Jaguars fans during the joint practice about thier 3 win team, and then the Jags make the AFC championship game and we blow donkey pole. Anyway, we signed guys who still have incentive to earn that last paycheck 3 years from now. Gotta put up film, now. He signed the best Center he could, witch also put our best OLman back to the position he was great at. He resigned E Smith, who has at least shown that he’s still a spot starter and knows the offense and all the calls. I’m not happy with losing our 3rd round pick, witch earned us Godwin and Beckwith last year, but 3rds don’t pan out about 70% of the time anyway. So far, not too bad, but not an A.
D still no corner, still need left gaurd, another safety that can make plays, running back, and a little speed at punt returner. We ignore the special teams returners year after year. When’s the last time we watched a kickoff to our team and actually thought it had a chance to be returned for a touchdown? Far too long
How Would You Grade General Manager Jason Licht’s 2018 Offseason To Date?
We all know the off season is not done. So holding against him the CB or RB position is just wrong.
It’s ‘to date’. Are the signings he made thus far good signings? Then he deserves a good grade. Period.
I included the new contracts to Bucs players when I averaged out his grade. If I had not, he’d probably have a C. JPP saved him there. I gave him a B officially.

Bonzai, to date, we still have no legit starting running back, and only one legit starting outside corner that happens to be 35 so in reality we need 2.
To date, we have failed to address either position. So explain to me how taking that into consideration could be classified as wrong?
A solid B with good hope for an A if he continues the trenches overhaul and gets another badass interior offensive lineman and a young DE to grOom in the first two rounds of the draft.
KEEP FIXING THE TRENCHES AND YOU WILL FIX THE BUCS!!
Solid B. We got better on both lines via signings from a very weak FA class. Had to spend a fairly valuable draft pick to fill a major hole – but that’s part of the cost of doing business when you have ignored that hole for far too long while building up other areas of the roster.
We shall see how these additions shake out – but on paper it looks like the trenches have improved pre-draft with 4 new additions to the DL (including a pretty major and expensive one in JPP) and also a big FA signing to improve the interior OL.
Pretty good job Jason Licht – especially considering what was out there to draw from…
Now on to your strength. Time to kill it in the draft and get us 3 or 4 upgraded starters for the 3rd time in the last 4 years. RB and DBs are now our biggest need along with additional bolstering of both lines.
it’s impossible to grade him until seasons end. if they don’t win at least a first round playoff game it will be nothing more than another failed season.
Anybody giving him an F is either a troll or hasn’t been paying attention.
HOW MANY GAMES HAVE THESE MOVES WON SO FAR?????????
no free passes. they have been so awful for so long they have to prove it on the field and they have not proven anything. jpp will regress badly playing next to cancer93… everyone dose. history proves it.
Licht gets an A+ … SO FAR … I’d still like to see him sign a #2 CB and a SS … however I am extremely pleased at how well he did in free agency this year, as while he’s always been a good draft guy, he’s been pretty bad in free agency in years past.
Re-signed Mike Evans at a great number
Re-signed Cam Brate on a steal of a deal number
Re-signed Grimes on a deal with just $7mil guaranteed this year, which is a steal
Beat out the Colts to land the best center in free agency
Beat out another team willing to pay more for run-stuffing DT Beau Allen
Beat out a handful of other teams to sign Vinny Curry
Traded the equivalent of a mid-3rd rounder for JPP
Did NOT pull the trigger on trading for Bennett who could be going to prison!
A+ … so far!
I mean, seriously, how could anyone give him less than a A+ … he signed the best free agent CB available at a steal price, re-signed Mike and Brate at great value, signed the best run-stuffing DT at a great price, traded for the best available DE and only gave up the equivalent of a mid-3rd rounder, and signed Vinny Curry to add another pass-rusher. That’s stellar work by Jason and it also shows the Glazers are ALL-IN on Jameis and the team, as I maintained all along when many around here were spewing nonsense and acting like the sky was falling … rejoice people, it’s been a great off-season and the draft should be great as well … and NO, not all teams get better too … many get worse, obviously.
CANNOT be an A when the weakest unit on the field is arguably weaker than last year with the loss of McClain in regards to the 32nd ranked pass defense. Apart from Grimes it’s a mess with no depth.
^ You have a point and I was a little irked to see EJ Gaines sign with the Browns … I’d still like to see Breeland signed as well as a SS like Tre Boston or Kenny Vaccaro … however, Licht may be planning to take Minkah Fitzpatrick or Denzel Ward at #7 and add another CB in the later rounds of the draft, perhaps a 1st round talent that could slide to the 4th or 5th round like JC Jackson and Holton Hill … if that’s the case, there is no need to sign another CB in free agency.
Yeah yeah I gave a B too because of the holes in the secondary.
NUT they know they need to address CB foremost. Fitzpatrick maybe should be the guy if he is as great as touted……But what if a guy like Barkley falls? Or Nelson/Chubb. That may change the plan.
Then your looking at second round still needin* a corner….but you also may need a RB and round 2 is looking like the spot to get him.
I’d really feel more comfortable if they could add a CB who could at least be servicabl3 and has experience.
We NEED a starting RB, SS and #2 CB so if we end up with Chubb or Nelson at #7, I believe we’ll take a RB in the 2nd round (as ALL the top prospects will be gone by the time we draft in the 4th round), which means we won’t be able to take a CB and SS until the 4th and 5th rounds … yikes.
If we get Saquon at #7, we can use the 2nd rounder on a CB and a 4th on a SS and be fine … or if we take Minkah or Denzel Ward or even Derwin James at #7, we could still take a RB in round 2 and a CB or SS in the 4th round and be fine as well.
i actually voted the only way any rational sane person could vote and that is incomplete. Until they prove it on the field these simply are just transactions. We has buc fans have been burnt far too many times in the off-season. The delusional optimists and unrealistic fools are already raising the Lombardi yet they have not accomplished a damn thing.
Apparently, too many of you don’t have the ability to understand the fact that the new league year has just started. Still a long way to go, and there will be more signings, including the draft. Not all teams needs are filled in free agency alone. The fact that so many of you can’t comprehend this is troubling to say the least.
In my opinion, our GM has done a stellar job in free agency, improving our D line tremendously. The O line was greatly improved in two spots with one signing, an absolute coup in my opinion. The draft will fill in the gaps at the positions so noted in this forum. While I personally give GM Licht an A, anyone grading this period less than a B is an idiot.
Carlos Hyde, a true RB1 capable of playing all 3 downs signed with the Browns for 3 years 15 million. Several capable #2 corners were available as well, Rashaan Melvin, EJ Gaines, Vontae Davis, and Aaron Colvin are all gone.
We could have addressed 2 glaring needs and we didn’t. If C+ was an option that would have been my answer, It wasn’t, so Licht gets a C.
Not to mention we still need a Left Guard, a Strong Safety, Kick returner, a DT to replace McCoy after this season or the next, a right tackle to replace Demar Dotson, and a CB to replace Grimes.
It’s true that you can’t fix everything in one offseason, and the draft is still to come, but options were there to be had, and it’s generally not a great Idea to depend on rookies to be competent NFL starters and get you to the playoffs.
B- Sorry. Can’t get past passing on Campbell and can’t get passed the non-trade for Quinn. We would have an all-star, SB DL if those acquisitions would have happened.
Well, MARC apparently is grading Licht’s 2018 offseason on the fact he missed out on Calais Campbell in the 2017 offseason … interesting.
Also … YES, Licht should sign a #2 CB and SS …
As for Carlos Hyde … I banged the drum for him but I have no problem if Licht simply decided long ago to draft a RB instead of sign one … that’s fine by me.
I handed out a “gentleman’s C”. The guy had to try and unweave the mess that Rock Star Dominick/ Lovie Smith created and he has hit some home runs with his 2015 draft but also dropped the ball in the 2016 draft with so many outright busts. On the Free agent side: he has got a few winners like Anger as well as Grimes but has swung and missed a helluva lot as well. Not the worst GM in the NFL but a long ways off from the top half, I’d rank him in the low 20s thus a C- or perhaps incomplete pending the contribution of his 2018 FA haul as well as the draft…
I gave him a B, up from a D in the last poll. My reasoning is the same as some others, no CB or RB. I love what Licht did with the Dline. But, those saying wait until the draft I do not agree with. The poll is for Lichts grade TO DATE. The incomplete option shouldn’t even be on there. This was a poll about acquisitions, not production, that is on position coaches and Koetter, not Licht. Anyone who voted incomplete or has to watch the results on the field just doesn’t understand the question. It was “TO DATE”. Has nothing to do with the games to be played.
Question: if Licht traded a draft pick for Aaron Rodgers, would you grade that an A, or would you have to see if he plays well to give a grade? That’s all.

Anything higher than a C is undeserving and pure homerville.

JPP’s birthday is in January, so he won’t be 30 until after this season. And the Bucs can cut him any time after this season without any penalty.
But I do not think they will need to.

But we’ve done well thus far.
