Bucs Kicker Circus Has A New Act

Competition on the way
It seems the guy who replaced Nick Foles last year on the Jets roster, is now the guy who will replace Nick Foles on the Bucs roster.
You can’t make this stuff up.
Yes, the Bucs have kicker Patrick Murray, who was among the worst in the NFL last season at kickoffs and field goals of 50+ yards. Murray did a great job stabilizing the position after the Roberto Aguayo-Folk disaster. But the Bucs certainly can do better.
Per the Twittering of Tampa Bay Times reporter Greg Auman, the Bucs are poised to sign kicker Chandler Catanzaro. He was perfect on extra points last year, but was perfect from 50+ (2-for-2), though he was a shaky 12-for-17 from 40 to 49 yards.
Catanzaro had strong 2014 and 2015 seasons with the Cardinals before tanking in 2016.
Joe suspects he’ll be competition for Murray, not gifted a job.
Let the kicking games begin.

Stick with Pat Murray. Jason Licht is about worse at evaluating kickers than he is at signing free agents.
If it’s his instinct to bring this guy in to replace Murray, don’t.

Last year, this guy was only 1% better than Murray in field goals made.
Not really a step up. At least Murray was consistent. Ah well, close to the same age. We’ll see.
Personally, I would rather have kept it just Murray and then try out a couple drafted guys for the practice squad.

Error in the article, Joe. He made all his extra points and missed 5 FGs. In comparison, Murray only missed 4 FGs…but played in fewer games.

All I know about Catanzaro is that Cardinal fans hated him – despite his stats they viewed him as a choke artist. Also 5 missed XP’s? Wow, Roberto missed 2 and people wanted him lynched.
Not sure about this signing, but if it’s truly just an open competition then bring in as many guys that you can.

Bonzai – I think Joe was looking at prior years, he did in fact miss 5 XP’s in Arizona one year, then missed 4 XP’s the next year, but did get them all last year. Looking at the stat sheet I can see why the Cardinal fans hated him, 9 XP’s missed in 2 years… that’s really terrible.

Iām too tired to rage today. After not making any significant moves yesterday I went on hunger strike that wonāt end until they make a significant signing. Signing a camp kicker and a rotational DT donāt count.
Iām so darn hungry right now. Havenāt eaten in 28 hours. If Jensen leaves without a contract Iām going to cry. PHUCK you Bucs!! I guess a glimmer of hope is too much to ask for.

Let’s just bring back Brenza for long FGs & kickoffs…..we could carry 2 kickers like some other teams……..Brenza is also a punter so he could be an emergency punter. I suspect we could get him really cheap.

I have no idea how the Cowboys could even talk to Suh, they’re literally over the cap as it is and they still have to draft guys and fill out the rest of their team. The Saints reportedly only have about $10m in cap room and again they have to still make space for the draft, etc. I don’t get how these teams can think about signing a guy like Suh, what if they get into cap hell, what happens years from now when that catches up to them, what then?! Cap hell is worse than losing, much much worse.

tmaxcon – That was the point I was making, cap hell was a fake news narrative put out to cover for Gruden gutting the SB team after he got McKay fired. Gruden signed 21 free agents that year including big money deals to lots of guys like Garner, every 35+ year old injured offensive lineman in the league, heck Ian Gold got $6m at a time when Sapp would have made $6m. But that fake news cap hell nonsense carries over to today because people actually believed it back and still do now. Other teams that are at the cap every year seem to do just fine at not blowing up their team and thus I was mocking those people who worry about the cap.

So, we gave the Beau Allen/Mitch Unrein run-stuffing DT combo $8.5mil per year … okay … we could have got Dontari Poe for that most likely but maybe the team feels it’s better to have these two players than just Poe.
I’m certainly not inspired but NAMES don’t win games, TEAMS do … both Beau and Mitch have been in the SuperBowl and both may be good locker-room guys, but man, talk about no-names …

Wasn’t it reported that Ryan Fitzpatrick only got around $3.3mil per on his new deal? So, we’re paying an average kicker more than our backup QB? Um, okay … I’d rather have went into camp with an UDRFA and some old head like Sea Bass or any other FA veteran kicker still unsigned and given them like $750k for a year and used that extra $2.6mil to take on to the $3.5mil we gave MITCH UNREIN and sign a better DT for $6.1mil per year … but hey, whatever …

Well we couldnāt stop the run last year so if these guys can come in and do that it will make our defense stronger. Iāll believe it when I see it though because Gholston was paid to do that and made no impact in the run D.

Calm down people … lots of “names” left: Mathieu, Ealy, Okafor, Boston, Reid, Vaccaro, Claiborne, Gaines, etc … but names don’t win games, teams do …
I’m still hoping to see Ryan Jensen signed, along with a starting quality SS (Tre Boston?) and a #2 corner (Gaines?) … a DE like Ealy would be nice too but I doubt it happens … as for RB, it seems the team will draft one … plus a guy like Adrian Peterson will probably just be sitting around unsigned after the draft and we could pick him up cheap for depth.

Jimmy Jack my father and I have done many water-only fasts. Humans can go a long time without food but, only a few days without water. We would regularly go 28 to 30 days on the water only fasts. Be sure you drink a lot of water and sleep often. Your hunger pangs will go away completely, at the end of day three and it wonāt return for weeks; thatās when you should begin eating again, if you wish to optimize your cleansing fast. Itās also a healthy way to lose weight. Hang in there bud, it might take that long for the Bucs to do anything relevant.

The prized acquisition of the 2018 free agent market…..The guy who was so important that they signed him in January…..is a long snapper. His name…no clue but that’s because He’s known as “El’ snapper de longo”.
