Kyle Fuller And The Bucs

February 18th, 2018

Potential free agent target.

Lost in the nauseating report that Mike Glennon may return to the Bucs, per heavy metal headbanging Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, was another item that has some Bucs fans’ attention.

It seems Bears free agent cornerback Kyle Fuller will test the free agent waters after perhaps his best season in the NFL.

Re-signing corner Kyle Fuller should be a priority but he’s going to find a lucrative market ahead and will not be returning to Chicago, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The Bears’ No. 14 overall draft pick in 2014, Fuller finished 2017 with a bang with six passes defended, largely against Josh Gordon, and a pick in the end zone. At the time, Bears coach John Fox said that was the best game of any cornerback since he took a job with the Monsters of the Midway.

Fuller has three completely healthy seasons and one lost (2016) to a knee injury. That bad knee was why the Bears declined to pick up the fifth-year option in his rookie contract.

Joe shouldn’t have to repeat his stance on the Bucs drafting corners so long as the current defensive staff remains intact. Thus, Joe believes the Bucs must acquire veteran corners. Could or should Fuller be that guy?

    Ehhh, No.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

Beggars can’t be choosers? Right now Bucs have ZERO true outside CBs under contract. CBs who can play outside take time to develop, plus we need our draft picks, so Bucs better find TWO in FA. Fuller’s got good size (6’0″ & 194 lbs), good speed & quickness, and is a tackling machine. Ya he missed all of 2016 with an injury, but bounced back tremendously in 2017 by starting all 16 games, with 22 passes defensed, 2 INTs, & 61 tackles with 8 assists. That’d be a pretty start towards fixing our Secondary.

  3. tmaxcon Says:

Not enough of injury risk / history for bucs. He needs to miss more games for bucsd to be interested

  4. Easy Says:

Maybe kick the tires on him but he’s average at best. And he stays hurt

  5. Maze Says:

If they can’t land Trumaine Johnson why not

  6. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    Sign him please!

Get Tremaine and Fuller! Stop F@CKING around Bucs!!!!!

  8. BucEmUp Says:

It doesn’t matter. These are the times you just try to strike gold with ufas because your coaching staff is shot and it doesn’t matter anyway

  13. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

If we can get him, at a sensible price, why not ?

  14. Ndog Says:

If it falls this way in the draft take Fitzpatrick, sign Tru Johnson, sign M Bennett and do your best to sign Star, or Poe and bam defense remade. And all those things are 100% possible. Then on O sign McKinnon and Hyde then draft Hernandez the guard in round 2. Bam offense fixed also 100% possible.

  15. Reach87 Says:

LUV, nice post. Worth considering and folding into a focused plan to improve the defense. Starts with players (coaching/scheme adjustments are easier if you have the pieces). Thanks for reasoned research and for posting. Go Bucs!

  16. Easy Says:

Why would any of these guys want to play with Cancer93?
    Tmaxcon

  17. Destinjohnny Says:

This is your reality when you have a scout as your gm

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    Easy

Until cancer93 is gone it does not matter who the bring in they will fail 8 years of history proves that. 4-12 witth zero hope.

  19. Lord Cornelius Says:

He was one of the best shut down corners last year in the league. Could be getting him right as he’s found his game / starting his prime years

  20. macout247 Says:

Free Agency is filled with young CB’s who had career years this year. Gonna have to take a shot on one of them.

  21. Guzziep Says:

Ndog…we still have the same crapshow coaching though

  22. Jarod lauderdale Says:

Luvmybucs is definitely one of the better posters on here. Knows his football & his bucs! And shoot, Breeland and fuller and or Breeland and if we have to take Fitz at 7 and pair him with a guy like Grimes, Breeland and Justin Evans and get like tre Boston our back end is now a big upgrade… Unfortunately folks, if chubb is gone we better hope to find a diamond in the ruff at De through the draft or FA.. Let’s all hope Spence stays healthy and we can have some hope for our d… Get a solid running back and a center in FA so we can move marpet back..we will win with a solid running game, James play action passes and a d that can at least get off the field on 3rd downs…. Go bucs… I’ll even take Nelson r 1 , Sony in r 2 and lineman in FA… Go bucs

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Every cornerback ever mentioned here is from 5’9″ to 5’11”!

Can we PLEASE get at least one CB who is over 6 feet and skilled????

  24. ATrain Says:

We can sign every superstar in the NFL
But there is a reason Bucs players leave the Bucs and get better the LOCKERROOM DEMANDS IT

The Bucs lockerroom is about collecting a check and telling Fans next game
    We were Flat. Getting better

    BLAH BLAH

    UNTIL the LEADERS DEMAND PREFECTION
Fans will get the same play

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    tmaxcon Says
“Love the info but no way vh3 should be on roster”

That is not smart at all. VHIII had ONE BAD YEAR. It’s part of the process. You prefer to just give up on him that quickly????

At the very worst, he is very solid depth. At best, he had an awakening last year and will work hard to get better this off season.

But quitting on him this soon is a horrible idea. Doesn’t surprise me that you want rid of him though.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    ATrain Says
“The Bucs lockerroom is about collecting a check…”

I do not agree with that at all. I mean, sure, there are guys in every locker room that are all about the check…but I would say most of this team is about getting better, not getting richer.

It’s the few bad seeds that make it seem otherwise, and most of those are free agent signings…which is pretty much par for the course with free agents.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    BucEmUp Says
“It doesn’t matter. These are the times you just try to strike gold with ufas because your coaching staff is shot and it doesn’t matter anyway”

I really hate that attitude. Why follow the team if you feel that way? Sheesh.

  28. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @BucBonzai

Thanks those three posts pretty much sum up my feelings. Others here thank you as well as it spares them one of my novels. LOL

  29. BringBucsBack Says:

Luv, I’m inclined to think that you may do more homework than Licht and the Bucs’ scouts.

  30. Tom Says:

Johnson & Fuller would be great additions. Then signing Grimes wouldn’t be quite that urgent.

  31. SOEbuc Says:

FA: Andrew Norwell, 2 good corners.

Draft: Trade back to the Bills, then trade one of those picks for two earlier round picks. Maybe a 3 and 4. Texans are ahead of us in draft order and they need a round one pick??

  32. ATrain Says:

    Bonzai

What would you attribute our players leaving and playing better else where
    Several players have done this

Coaches? We have changed them every two years
    Front office?
    Owners?

It’s the Lockerroom the Bucs have a soft lockerroom
    Jamies has called it out
    Ayers has called it out
    Alexander has called it out

Time to find the cancer and get it out of that lockerroom

No More “Oh we were Flat today”

That is the worst line I have ever heard from a player

  33. Owlykat Says:

Our best DB all time was as slow as Hargraves and didn’t become good til his third year starting. Took that long for our best Safety of all time too. Give Hargraves more time. As for rumors we may sign Glennon—the BUST at Chicago. That would be a disaster if Jameis goes down. And if Jameis doesn’t up his starting weight and we keep turn style Smith at Tackle, Jameis will be going down again. If we can’t get DE Chubb at 7 move down and grab LT Orlando Brown; then move Smith to LG where he can block just as good as Nelson. Get Baltimore’s Center in FA, or Michigan State’s Center in the third round so we can move our All Pro Guard back to RG—OL fixed! Resign our present backup QB. Grab Cherry with one of our second picks.

  34. GrudenForPresident Says:

Turmaine Johnson and Fuller and Grimes

  35. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Jarod Lauderdale, Reach87, BringBucsBack

Apologize for responding late my brothas.
    Appreciate the compliments

  36. Ben Says:

They need 2 corners. Fuller sounds interesting. Fluke injury perhaps?
Johnson would be expensive. Same with Butler. Either way they shouldnt wait to add depth at corner. 2 starting CBs is a must. Next minimum 1 capable* DE is a must as well in FA. Use draft to saturate these positions.
