Buckner Welcomes Sapp’s Feedback
February 21st, 2018Newly minted Tampa Bay defensive line coach Brentson Buckner almost sounded like a Bucs fan the way he glowed about the Bucs, both in the past and the present.
Buckner bragged that when he was playing for the Panthers in 2002, the season the Bucs won a Super Bowl, he thought so highly of the Bucs defense that he and Kris Jenkins and other defensive teammates of the Panthers bought tickets to the San Francisco-Tampa Bay playoff game.
Buckner raved about the atmosphere the fans brought to the game as the Bucs defense stormed onto the field like the proud warriors they were. And Buckner wants to re-establish that scene while he is here.
Warren Sapp was brought up often by Buckner. The Pro Football Hall of Famer has been very harsh on the play of the Bucs defense the past season and Buckner not only knows about Sapp’s swipes, but he welcomes the feedback.
One reason Sapp has been so harsh on the Bucs, Buckner noted, is that he has personal pride in what he and Derrick Brooks and John Lynch and Ronde Barber and Simeon Rice built. Buckner likened Sapp’s mentality to how someone feels about building a house and then selling it. The builder always wants to see the house he built in good order.
And Buckner, in so many words, said he if can please Sapp, then his defensive line is likely getting the job done.
In fact, Buckner didn’t think Sapp’s barbs at the defense were that off-target or harsh. He noted that when he played for the Steelers, Pittsburgh had been in a decades-long drought without a Super Bowl win.
“You should have heard what [Jack] Lambert had to say about us,” Buckner joked.

Turn ’em around Buck!

Like this guy. Seems to be a guy who can communicate well with the players. I think he’ll do a nice job. Now we just gotta get him some more to work with.

That’s just gold!!!

Very cool article – interesting that Kris Jenkins bought a ticket to the Bucs playoff game as well. Jenkins hated the Bucs, and in particular Sapp. “He talks too much, he doesn’t make sense, he’s fat, he’s sloppy, he acts like he’s the best thing since sliced bread. He’s ugly, he stinks”

OKAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE THIS GUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe Smith needs to step down and let this man run the show!! Hell, Koetter can step down too!

Real competitors do that. They do whatever it takes to WIN!!! I know that idea is foreign to us and the tutti frutti ice cream pop but it true.
Last night I’m watching a documentary on the Bulls and Dennis Rodman. Basically Jordan and Piper LOATHED Rodman bc he used to beat them up when he was on the Pistons. Rodman said that in the 3 years they played together they never had one conversation off the court. Yet they (together) won 3 championships.
That’s what champions do! Whatever it takes to win!

our new DC next year!!!!!

I don’t know why Brentson Buckner wasn’t able to develop DL Robert Nkemdiche. He has to be the most underdeveloped NFL player in the last 50 years. Will Gholston look like Mean Joe Greene compared to Nkemdiche. A first round draft pick, with more physical talent than most D-Linemen in the NFL.
2 years, 12 tackles, 0 sacks
I’m not sold on Brentson Buckner

DB55 –
Gee Whiz, in my 39 years of living – I was totally in the dark of what “real competitors” do, but thanks to you I have seen the light. Truly a life changing post. Your excessive use of exclamation points really sealed the deal for me too.

hope he rubs off on the king of the get off….

With all the hoola Buckner is getting, you’d think he was the Bucs Defensive Coordinator. He is but Mike Smith gets the credit huh? Bucs starting to stink like they did when Culverhouse was around.

Now he needs to speak to Kwon.

Proud to say I was at that game (nosebleed section of course) and it was hands down the best sporting event I have ever attended. and yes, I still have my flag from the game. #GoBuckner. #Restablishthepride

Proud to say I was at that game, still have my flag. Buckner seems like the perfect man for the job. Wish him much success.

I used to hate this guy when he played for the Panthers. That Dline used to kill us(still does actually).
Them guys always came ready to play and we’re relentless. Would love it if he could bring some of that attitude……But let’s be realistic, we need the horses.

I like what coach Buckner is saying.
At this point though, most Bucs fans are pretty deep into the “Words are cheaper than summer raindrops around here – just show me something” phase.
We need multiple new young bodies competing for DL roster spots this year Jason Licht. Make it so. Give this “teacher” some legit students to work with.

Love the energy, passion, and determination.
No more softness!

Nkemdiche has had issues since college, raw talent but something between the ears, you have Buckner, Bolles, playing with Campbell, Freeny, etc., something should click, just saying
February 21st, 2018 at 6:28 pm
I think we are looking at the next Bucs DC
February 21st, 2018 at 6:38 pm
@db55
Rodman was pesky but the beating up was done by Lambier and Majorn
IMO . In fact Lambier was written up as the dirtiest player in the NBA as recently as last year.
February 21st, 2018 at 6:55 pm
I guess you missed Rodman shoving Pippen into the first row of seats. Trust Rodman had his fair share of dirty plays. I just saw it last night.

Oooh Db55…I like it!

don’t bye into the big talk all you people no that cancer93 will not stand for 100% effort 100% of the time nor will he tolerate winning.

Lakeland
Pretty sure Nkemdiche had the same problem in college – tons of talent however was lazy, took plays off. Even though it sounds like he said all the right things, I’ll wait and see how he the DLine performs under him before I judge.
February 21st, 2018 at 8:41 pm
I didn’t judge him, I said i wasn’t sold on him. That’s not judging, that just someone who hasn’t been sold.
February 21st, 2018 at 9:37 pm
I should’ve been more clear. I was just responding to you about Nkemdiche, wasn’t calling you out.
February 21st, 2018 at 9:40 pm
“We ain’t gonna go looking for a fight, we gonna invite the fight.” There’s just something about this guy. Love it.

I see the Bucs hired Stephen Nicholas as Defensive Quality control coach. I think that is a good hire.
February 21st, 2018 at 9:55 pm
Remember him out of USF, kid could fly on the field.
February 21st, 2018 at 10:05 pm
He played LB for the Atlanta Falcons for 7 seasons.
