Get Bruce Arians A Bucs Hat & Sunscreen

January 12th, 2018

Says he’ll be in training camp this year

Yes, yes, yes, your Bucs, as of today, appear to be embracing the status quo when it comes to their 5-11 coaching staff, home of the NFL’s 32nd-ranked defense.

Stay calm. There’s still time to upgrade and, of course, Dirk Koetter and Jason Licht are leaving no stone unturned to improve the Bucs.

One stone to turn over is Bruce Arians, who just retired from his head coaching gig in Arizona. Per New York Jets beat writer Rich Cimini, Arians just told Peter King of Sports Illustrated fame that he’ll be sweating with an NFL team this summer.

In an interview with , former Cards coach Bruce Arians told he “will be in a training camp this summer. It might be the Jets.” He and Todd Bowles are very close. It’s unclear what role, if any, he’d have.

Arians, a two-time NFL Coach of the Year (2012 and 2014), is known as a quarterbacks whisperer, having coached Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger and Andrew Luck early in their careers, among other accomplishments.

As Joe has written, Arians coached another young QB, too. That would be America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. Arians coached Jameis at youth camps and was eager to rave about him the past couple of years to Tampa Bay media. Clearly, Arians is a fan and a friend of Jameis.

If Arians is going to be a training camp coaching specialist this summer, then why not with Jameis and the Bucs offense, even for just 10 days?

Perhaps Arians can help figure out why the Bucs only average just under nine points in the first halves of games. But much more important, Arians would be a wonderful coach for Jameis and, Joe presumes, a fabulous fresh set of eyes for Mike Bajakian and Koetter. Arians’ could also be a wonderful identifier of issues for the Bucs defense and Mike Smith.

Coaches matter.

And you can never have too many talented ones around, assuming you know how to manage them.

I wouldn’t worry about him working with Winston, I’d want him working with Dirk.

JOE Says – Perhaps Arians can help figure out why the Bucs only average just under nine points in the first halves of games.

I can do that for free –

    1) Offensive (truly offensive) line

    2) No running game ( can blame some of that on #1 )

    3) Koetter is too predictable

    4) Other team excited to get their offense on the field and watch the blood bath.

    5) Midnight phone calls to Koetter from Smith and Schiano telling him to get ready for the axe, it’s coming.

    6) Team waiting for late arriving fans to make sure they get their money’s worth.

    7) Trying to avoid going to London next year

    8) Trying to avoid going to Mexico next year

    9) Players not playing well due to stress of joe bucs fan page blow back.

    10) Jason “Gump” Licht

  3. AlteredEgo Says:

    #9……LOL….

  4. stevbobucfan Says:

how great that would be…just Arians present I thank would help the Bucs him working with Koetter and Jameis I think would raise the bar for the Bucs offense. however, what do we do with this defense cant out score everybody in the NFL

  5. BoJim Says:

Get him a tee shirt too.

  6. Pa Privateer Says:

Pay him as the Offensive Advisor. Let him oversee Winston and the OC.

Or just pay him to be the next OC and let him call plays.

  7. Rod Munch Says:

I doubt the Cardinals would be OK with having a coach retire while under contract and then coach against the next year – I’m pretty sure that’s not possible unless they released him from his deal.

  8. Waterboy Says:

Carolina upgraded their Offensive Coordinator to Norv Turner one of the best OC’s in the game.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Waterboy – I think your calendar got messed up with the new year, it’s 2017 now.

  10. Dooshlarue Says:

Hell, dig Leonard Nemoy up and have him teach JW the Vulcan death grip to help him with those retarded fumbles.

  11. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

Dang thanks Rod. My stupid a$$ has been writing 2018 on everything.

  12. Lovable yucs Says:

Why on earth would he want to come to this last place dumpster fire of a team that’s a year away from a complete turnover of coaching? The glazers do not have enough money for him to come here.

    Lmao. Not happening.

  13. DoNUTS Says:

I think song “Dream Weaver” must be playing on the radio in the background at JBF headquarters.

  14. Buccaneer scotty Says:

He said jets not bucs ! I wish we would hire Derrick Brooks and send Winston to Kurt Warner

  15. TampaTown Says:

    @GhostofSchiano: Good stuff!

  16. DoNUTS Says:

The Jets are a better fit for Arians with cooler camp location. Jets are in QB hell with old McClown at #1 and need/will pay for the coaching. Other factor, Arian’s health is not so good and I am not sure any DR would recommend being outside in the Tampa Summer heat for therapy.

  17. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

lookin at last years draft and oj howard may emd up being great but its the same pattern with lichts 4 years here just drafting stuff to throw on wall with no rhyme or reason… 80% of posters wanted RB, DE, OL… licht has continually drafted some good players maybe the bucs are 5-11 but with no goal or end game and now we as bucs fans are going to be hoping for perfect vision in 2020

  18. BringBucsBack Says:

Why would inferior coaches welcome him and his presence?

  19. cmurda Says:

Dirk just mentioned that he will be at a training camp this coming year also. Hopefully this time it is at One Buc Palace.

  20. bucs_365 Says:

There is ZERO chance of this happening. So little chance that even mentioning it is kind of a joke. Oh hey, yeah, maybe we can get Bill Belichick to take a week off from Patriots camp to come and give the Bucs some pointers. Just as likely.

  21. Eric Says:

Now the jets are more attractive than us.

Gonna lose the dang consultant battle too.

  22. Ndog Says:

It’s funny Dusthty people used to complain that we always reached for need players and didn’t go best player, now people are saying we should pick for need why take the better player if we don’t need him. Its seems just no matter what we do its wrong, just crappy luck i guess.

  23. Sunny Says:

BREAKING NOW !!!! Follow up coming soon . . . As of now , dirk announced the bucs will have a training camp this year!!! Sources close to him say trees will be banned .

Stick around for more breaking new.

    PS keep dreaming Joe ,

  24. Sunny Says:

We have been drafting mostly offense, now that we r mostly getting young there look for licht to be defense heavy. . . Still 2-3 yrs IF we do the proper things

  25. JoeChuxFan Says:

Bruce Arians would NOT wanna work wit Jameis or the Bucs. Let me remind all of you that Jameis may have a suspension coming. Sad!

  26. Mike Johnson Says:

Bruce Arians is done. The guy wanted to continue. But he’s smart with his medical problems. I’ve always thought the Bucs should have went after him. But our Bucs luiv to tread into the used bins and unknowns. Arians turned AZ around with his no nonsense coaching. But..And we have our captain smiley (koetter) and Pressbox Smitty (Mike Smith) Now sit back and watch the type of coach the AZ Cardinals hire. He’ll be proven, tough and a..WINNER!!! Unlike us.

  27. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Ndog here what you are saying but it seems that every playoff team built a defense with a plan where the bucs initial plan was the dunkaneers and then it went like dory on nemo all over the place….saints, panthers, falcons all solid defenses and obv vikings n eagles are above average defenses but we got the gulf coast church defense just holey

  28. Rod Munch Says:

    Alaskan – haha…

  29. cmurda Says:

I think Arians would be happy in a position with less stress and demands. If he is willing to be a consultant in some capacity, any capacity. Get this man.

  30. LakeLand Says:

Bruce Arians best years was with the Pittsburgh Steelers as their OC and WR coach. He may go back to the Colts.

  31. Brett Says:

Why would any assistant want to come to the Bucs with everyone on the Hot Seat? Especially someone with the resume of Arians? Especially with Arians’ wife wanting him to retire. I doubt she wants to move to Tampa for a year.

  32. BuccLuck Says:

There’s a better chance of Gruden being at the Bucs training camp…..

  33. JonBuc Says:

Maybe Arians is the mystery 3rd fella in the Uber with Jamies & Darby? It did happen in Arizona…

  34. jmarkbuc Says:

    Cmurda

Now that sh** is funny 😉

  35. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe I’m starting to see that Coach Koetter is the type of coach that wants credit for success and not let anyone else in on it so I find it hard for Bruce Ariams to come in here 10days,the problem be fixed and Koetter be ok with it because that would expose that he was the problem not the staff.

  36. BuccaneEric75 Says:

I’d rather have Arians working with Smith. He can show him his plan on carving up Smiths defense and what all of the tells were.

  37. BuccaneEric75 Says:

The only offensive position I want to see drafted in the next two years is a RB, and not in round 1 unless it’s Barkley, and even that is a stretch. I want to see us load up players on D, then we’ll find out who wants to be here. DT, DE and CB heavy. No LBs. if we draft any LBs or WRs my head will explode. I’d be ok with an OL-man too, but only one high round and maybe one later round project.

  38. mike10 Says:

Make him president or a senior consultant
