Joe Gets Rosenhaused

January 30th, 2018

Dion Lewis shuts down Joe.

So now Joe knows what it is like to interview Drew Rosenhaus.

The oily superagent coined a famous phrase when he was fronting then-Eagles wide receiver/perpetual malcontent Terrell Owens while he manhandled a bunch of in-your-face Philly reporters during a contract dispute with the Eagles.

Virtually every question caustic Eagles beat guys hit Owens with was interrupted by Rosenhaus as he barked, “Next question!

So last night during the Patriots media session at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., part of Super Bowl Opening Night, Joe asked gifted running back Dion Lewis if he planned to test the free agent waters this March when the free agency dinner bell rings.

Lewis, 27, who had 896 yards rushing and 214 yards receiving in 2017, is on Bucs fans’ radar as a possible addition for Tampa Bay because of his versatility.

Well, let’s just say that question didn’t go over very well with Lewis, who did his best Rosenhaus impersonation and snapped at Joe, “Next question!”

All-righty-then.

So will Lewis become a free agent or will Bill Belicheat lock him up with a new deal? It’s a still a mystery.

    Sounds like you deserved it.

Cmon. He is about to play in another super bowl with the patriots (where he is hoping to stay and win more )and you are asking about his free agency next year. What a distraction. Good for him shutting you out Joe. Not very Classy.
Same complaint in multiple comments. Nice work! Here’s the same response. Super Bowl players are there at a staged event for a wide variety of media, for a full hour, to talk to them individually about a variety of topics. A few years ago, every player was being asked about Michael Sam and a potentially openly gay teammates, and many are asked each year about social issues. Joe’s NFL-related questions are very normal compared to some of what goes on, and the NFL embraces every last bit of it at Super Bowl Opening Night, formerly Media Day.–Joe

  2. Joeypoppems Says:

Imo we need a feature back, not pieces of a committee.

  3. AC Says:

^^^ With you on that Joeypoppems we have tried this running back by committee stuff for too long. Either 1 feature back or 1A/1B ordeal like new orleans. No more committee RB’s

  4. BucEmUp Says:

Zach Zenner 7th rnd pick to the lions

  5. Buc believer Says:

    @Bird…. Double Ditto. NEXT QUESTION!!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Joe….We (I) truly appreciate your articles and reports from events like the Superbowl…..but to write a story about a question that didn’t get an answer is a stretch.
You had to know you wouldn’t get an answer to that question.
Perhaps you should have asked him if he shared your opinion that Doug Martin is finished at Tampa….and did he concur that Martin shouldn’t have been the feature back in 17.
Perhaps you shouldn’t assume that’s the only question Joe asked. Look, anyone in the business of gathering news knows that generally the dumb questions are the ones that are not asked. Joe learned decades ago that one never knows what a player (or anyone else) will say or how they will respond. Heck, just last week, Gerald McCoy said he wants Aqib Talib and Michael Bennett on the 2018 Bucs, and the question that generated that answer (asked by Joe) was NOT “what players do you want added to the roster?” McCoy went there on his own with a different prompt. — Joe

  7. Easy Says:

    We need a bellcow

  8. Not there yet Says:

And you know he’s on the bucs radar because? I’m starting to think no vet is going to want to come here at the running back position. It’s no different from Glennon going to Chicago knowing they would draft a quarterback, why be w bridge Gap when he can stay where he is and win championships. Having barber in house knowing he will get touches and drafting a stud running back or two, with the recovers we have that will get their targets, the last thing dork needs is more weapons he won’t know what to do with

  9. Adambomb418 Says:

That’s the best story you got yesterday? Come on man. We expect more from you.

  10. FLBoyInDallas Says:

We just need to get some yards on the ground. I don’t care if it’s one guy, a committee or a whole damn congress. Next question!

  11. Dooshlarue Says:

Kinda like bragging to your friends about a chick you almost banged!

  12. gotbbucs Says:

    Well…it was a dumb question.

  13. 1Gr8Buc Says:

    Why complain? Just leave. –Joe

  14. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

every patriot answered question in a similar fashion but, bad timing on that question, i am guessing next week is better for him

  15. Reverse Joe Says:

    @1Gr8Buc

Triple Ditto man. The Joes are making piss poor decisions of late.

  16. pewterpirate99 Says:

Well if he left the Patriots, which he probably DOES NOT want to do, and becomes a free agent…..why in the sam hell would he want to come here????? Again, why would blue chip FA’s want to come to this joke of a losing franchise? To play for ass clown coaches, ass clown GM, and incompetent, cluless ownership? Why would he go from the best franchise in the NFL ( I’m no Patriots fan by any means, I actually can’t stand them and will be rooting for the Eagles to beat there ass ) to one of the laughing stocks of the NFL?? Please, don’t make me laugh! LMAO

  17. 1Gr8Buc Says:

Constructive criticism “Joe”. If you have multiple people pounting out the same thing maybe there is a trend. I know most of your readers would have been a lot more interested in potential Bucs Draft picks then asking other teams players about how “great” GMC is or AQB’s leadership.

  18. SCBucsFan Says:

It’s one thing to ask the question, another to then write about it. But it is Joe’s page, he controls the content.

  19. Tom Edrington Says:

Running backs that are free agents will pay a LOT of attention to the offensive lines of various teams that may be interested……SO JOE, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BE GIDDY ABOUT RUNNING BEHIND THE BUCS OFFENSIVE LINE????

  20. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Joe

As a former journalist IMHO it was a perfectly appropriate question. As you point out if interviews are distracting tough darts. It’s the SB and that’s part of a mass of distractions that professionals should be able to deal with.

His easy answer could have been…I love playing on this team…I haven’t thought about leaving.

As for the people who are beotching about types of questions. I get a TON of info here from Joe and some of our terrific posters. But there is more than just objective stats and facts. I think Joe works hard to also provide some color or flavor to what is happening.

And so Joe from one poster I have to confess that some of your more “offbeat” threads are the most enjoyable. I can look up stats and names anywhere…but it takes a true chef to also provide the flavor.

  21. Destinjohnny Says:

Mate you are to smart to ask that question at that time

  22. JimmyJack Says:

We can’t use Sims properly. So that tells me Lewis would be a complete waste of money. That doesn’t mean their not considered him unfortunatly

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Joe

“Perhaps you shouldn’t assume that’s the only question Joe asked.”

I’m looking forward to your article on the other questions.
Dude, 70 to 90 percent of what players, all players, is boring and not interesting. Perhaps you don’t realize that. –Joe

  24. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    Good for you Joe!!!!

I hate anything NE Pat related…so the hell with Dion!!!

  25. Garv Says:

Drew Rosenhaus! Hey Drew! What happened to Errict Rhett after you represented him?

    Next question.

  26. Joe Says:

SO JOE, WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD BE GIDDY ABOUT RUNNING BEHIND THE BUCS OFFENSIVE LINE????

Someone cashing a big fat check.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

sims has the same skill set as lewis…..continue to develop barber…draft guice….resign sims….he needs to continue to develop as well…..GO BUCS!!!!

  28. unbelievable Says:

Lol what a compelling article 😜

  29. pick6 Says:

dion lewis will follow the money, and good for him. IIRC, he has already had his career nearly ended a couple times, he’s got firsthand experience as far as understanding that it can all be gone in a moment. Especially at the position he plays.

as far as charles sims, i think there’s a defensible argument that he is at least partly the victim of a coaching staff that repeatedly misused their talent last year and also misjudged their rosters. not saying he’s a keeper, but would you really be alarmed if he put up 1,000+ all purpose yards next year on one of these franchises that seems to have figured out how to run a deep but productive rotation at RB?

  30. Rod Munch Says:

Dion Lewis is basically Charles Simms, except in an offense where he does more than run it up the gut on every first down when the other team has all 11 guys in the box. Lewis looks like a good 3rd down guy who was asked to do more because of injuries and in that offense was able to get it done. If someone gave him a big deal, in particular a place with a poor line, I think he’ll look extremely average and people will yell bust. If the Bucs got him it would be to just replace Simms, and Simms is very good at what he does and should be a lot cheaper. Wouldn’t be a bad move by the Bucs, it would just be shuffling in place move.

  31. D-Rome Says:

Super Bowl media days are dumb. People on radio row hype up how great the event is but all it ends up being is interview after interview with some has been trying to sell you on something.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. I feel like I’m in the minority on this but I think the Bucs need to re-sign Charles Sims. He does certain things very well. I don’t think the Bucs have used him effectively because of their hang-up on Drug Martin. If the team were to reliable downhill runner I think Sims would be far more effective than he has been over the past two seasons. He’s a victim of the circumstance but in the right system he’d be great.

  32. Guzzie Says:

Is it 2019 yet, can’t wait to have either Frank Reich or Jim Swartz leading this team, wouldn’t it be great if Philly defense dominates Pats and Glazers say the heck with this crap, lets bring in Swartz or Reich instead of this dead man walking coaching staff

  33. Guzzie Says:

    Schwartz I meant

  34. Joe Says:

I know most of your readers would have been a lot more interested in potential Bucs Draft picks then asking other teams players about how “great” GMC is or AQB’s leadership.

This is why Joe goes to the combine in late February to speak to prospects. Shoot, wouldn’t it be really, really, really redundant to write multiple stories daily from Jan. 1 all through April about the same 20 guys who haven’t done squat since their bowl games, if they played in a bowl?

Joe has been doing this for a decade, going to the Super Bowl and asking movers and shakers their take on the Bucs for different perspectives. All of a sudden this is a bad thing?

Joe thinks it is interesting as hell Bucs players are fed up with this nonsense of losing and players from afar agree with GMC.

But Joe should write multiple stories for the next four months about some guy from East Cornfield State and his 40-yard dash time? A guy who might wind up on the Browns’ practice squad? Yawn.

The Glazers aren’t mentally competent enough to do something like that, F@$KTARDS!!!
