GMC: Get Michael Bennett!

January 4th, 2018

Bucs DT wants him.

Joe doesn’t know what makes him sicker.

Depending on the flavor of morning coffee Joe’s had or the side of the bed Joe wakes up on, he isn’t sure which p!sses him off more, the fact the Bucs let Michael Bennett go for no good reason or the fact the Bucs outright cut a Hall of Fame cornerback in Darrelle Revis.

Both players, not surprisingly, added rings to their wardrobe after Tampa Bay wanted nothing to do with them. The Bucs, in the meantime, continue to wallow in the basement of the NFC South. Sense a pattern here?

Just how many times can a team punch its fans in the face with completely dumb (Joe’s trying to be polite) moves like that which a homeless man in Cleveland would know better to make and expect the same fans to return year after year and willingly cough up hard-earned cash? Talk about a Stockholm Syndrome!

Which brings Joe back to Bennett.

Recently, Bennett offered up that he is of the mind the Seahawks will cut him due to salary cap concerns. Yes, Joe knows Bennett is 32 and injuries are catching up with him, but Joe is still of the mind the Bucs, beyond desperate for anything resembling an edge rush, need to sign Bennett and right a great wrong.

It seems Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy agrees. GMC took to Twitter this morning and he is wasting no time in applying a hard sales pitch to get his former teammate back to the Bucs.

GMC also added cornerback Aqib Talib, who also thinks he will be cut, should “come home” too.

Joe agrees.

Look, Joe is hardly the kind of guy who is dazzled by names and pines for players in the sunset of their careers. But this is how perilous and bottomed out the Bucs are at defensive end and cornerback. Often a guy is available in the NFL for a reason and it often isn’t because he is at the top of his game. But don’t try to tell Joe the Bucs can’t use Bennett.

Sure, Bennett comes with baggage. Yeah, he pulled a con with Vegas cops. Yeah, he’s a kneeler, too. But before you say “Hell no” to Bennett, go look at the absolute, unadulterated, embarrassing trash the Bucs front for an edge rush and try to tell Joe a 32-year old, injured Bennett cannot be an upgrade.

You can’t, unless you are a blind, avowed hater or just too stoned to think straight. That’s how disgusting the edge rush is for the Bucs.

And for the fool who slapped his palm on the conference table at One Buc Palace and decided gun-totin,’ guitar-strumming, CFL-slumming Da’Quan Bowers was an upgrade from Bennett should never, ever have anything to do with a fantasy football team decision much less have any input into building an NFL roster.

No…like Joe a Rachael….you can never go back….it is a young mans game for the most part…sign Bennett and 365 days from now….endless comments on why’d we sign Bennett….a good GM and staff should be finding diamonds in the rough….not fat cats looking for a NFL Golden Parachute….

If fans dont want a proven pass rusher bc hes a “kneeler”, then they’re idiots. Not wanting a pass rusher bc they threw a woman on a bed full of assault rifles, saying he was going to kill her….now that’s an acceptable reason not to want someone. I’d rather have a DL full of “kneelers” over “real patriots” like Swaggy Baker, Ayers and Gholston.

  7. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

NOOOOOO leave this POS on the left coast and trade GMC for some picks this team needs to be totally blown up and build correctly

  8. Chris in WA Says:

After I saw Bennett be a classless POS tackling that centers legs on the QB kneel down vs the Jags and the ensuring fight I had a feeling he isn’t the type you want in your Locker room. Wasn’t this guy the most vocal about Sciano making the Bucs tackle at the end of the game when Bennett was here too?!?

  9. TrueBuc1970 Says:

Please have some integrity as a team and stay away from this cancer. He is a liar. See Vegas. Also see his completely dirty hit against the Jags where he tried to injure the player’s knee at the end of the game. Please don’t give me any excuses for his conduct as a person or a player. One of the best things this team did was not re-signing this guy.

  10. AlteredEgo Says:

    Me…you are unprincipled …

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Joe

The ship has sailed on both players……we don’t need another fatty baker or smoky ward….

We need younger or up and coming productive players.

  12. Joe Says:

If fans dont want a proven pass rusher bc hes a “kneeler”, then they’re idiots.

    Thank you.

  13. Stevbobucsfan Says:

I would love to see some defensive help in free agency but over the past 5 or 6 years our free agents haven’t really worked out. So a little nervous about free agent and the salary cap. However a quitter never win so the bucs have to keep going just be careful. GO BUCS

  14. Joe Says:

We need younger or up and coming productive players.

And how has the current defensive coaching staff fared developing young DEs and corners?

Vernon Hargreaves and Noah Spence would like to know.

  15. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Bring him on! Just do it if possible…and why not bring in Talib? Good lord people, are you not seeing it????????

I agree Joe!!!!! The youngens ain’t working out, let’s bring in experience and badazzes!!!

  16. 813bucboi Says:

well, if licht signed talib and Bennett, you cant say he isn’t trying to win now….

I would rather go after ziggy or d.lawerence at DE and Malcolm butler at CB….GO BUCS!!!!

  17. bucfan999 Says:

NO NO NO ANOTHER CANCER FOR THE LOCKER ROOM

  18. 1Gr8Buc Says:

813bucboi – EXACTLY! Butler and lawrence need the private jet treatment. Fly their asses around until they agree to a contract. Draft Key in the first round too. If we can add those three pieces to the defense, retain Grimes and Evans builds on what he did this year our defense will immediately take a giant step forward.

No excuses from coaches and front office. You need to go all in to compete this year or pack your bags.

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

Bucs fans sometimes!!! You guys are hilarious with the “no-kneeler” stuff. Why do you bother watching the game?
Look, there’s no way we can cure every ill on this team through the draft and with PREMIUM FAs. It just isn’t going to happen. The Bucs HAVE to sign players like a Michael Bennett to bridge the gap so that the youngsters develop. I mean, how many d-linemen come in their rookie year and go off? The percentages show not that often. Besides, we’ve seen guys like Julius Peppers and Dwight Freeney wreak absolute havoc on teams in their 30’s.
Yes, you want younger players but we have more holes to fill than swiss freakin’ cheese: DE(2), DB(2), S, OT, C, G, RB…..
Free agents have to WANT to come here! And rookies? Everybody know it’s a roll of the dice. Our needs exceed our resources.

  20. webster Says:

C’mon joe…..You where crying for roddy white 2 years ago, matt forte this year among some others i cant think of but i get your point. Bennett would be an up grade and those who cries about him kneeling are idiots. He lied they say. So what? Its not like he is running a country and lying everyday. Oh i forgot, that type of lying is okay to the “patriots” on this thread.

  21. Hodad Says:

We need to build a D line that can last, one for the future. No more old band aides. If McCoy wants to play with Bennett, he’s free to do so somewhere else too. McCoy should no longer be part of our future plans.

  22. 2Anglican1609 Says:

So we need more cancers in the locker room other than GMC?

  23. Pa Privateer Says:

I am fine with always carrying a several veterans with several younger players in all groups of the team. I am fine with signing Grimes, Bennett and Talib if possible.

I would rather have Bennett than Baker.

As long as we keep bringing in young talent then I see nothing wrong with using veterans to bridge the gap.

    Baker to Stevie T
    Ayers to Spence
    Conte to Evans
    Jackson to Godwin
what’s his name blocking TE to Howard and Auclair.
    Fitz to Jameis
    etc

There is a consistency with Litch ad he does understand veteran knowledge being passed down to rooks and young players.

If we keep adding good young talent eventually a team does not need to be over active in FA. The Steelers rely on their own veterans to teach the young players.

Let Litch keep drafting, the roster is growing.

  24. BrianBucs Says:

If you can’t win with what you have, then you need different folks. We ALL know the definition of insanity……

  25. Pa Privateer Says:

    Winning fixes everything.

No one wants controversies in the Locker room, but when you are winning those controversies do not get as much traction in the media compared to the W’s on sundays.

Give me players who get me wins and the baggage will go away.

  26. BigHogHaynes Says:

Now hear this to all TrumpMaxcon Lovers…there is no cancer in the locker room…each Coaching Staff change from Ciach Toes On The Line to Coach K has failed to produce a pass rushing DE! That you people is not a locker room cancer that is a BACK/STABBING GM problem! TAKE A KNEE…KEEP AMERICA FREE…THE CANCER IS “FAKE”!!

  27. Dooshlarue Says:

Dam Joe, I know it’s been rough being a Buc’s fan for the last 10 years, but you are acting crazy desperate!

Bennett is a POS, albeit a fairly productive one.

The Vegas incident is still fresh in my mind and I call total BS on his racist slant.
Didn’t he also start crying about his contract in Seattle when someone else got paid more?
He’s proven to be way more trouble than he’s worth.
    GMC’s endorsement is a joke.

We need a complete rebuild of the DL and that needs to be done with new HUNGRY players.

Please stop living in the past.

    Go Bucs!

  28. Cobraboy Says:

Bennet would just alienate more fans when attendance and interest is already low.

  29. Joe Says:

How exactly is Michael Bennett a “cancer in the locker room?”

Unless Joe is missing something, Seattle has been one of the NFL’s best teams for years. Played in two Super Bowls. How exactly has Bennett blown up the Seahawks. He’s hardly Muhammad Wilkerson or Swaggy Baker.

  30. awaiting moderation Says:

This certainly makes for good robust debate while we watch the (Buc-Less) playoffs. I think there are arguments on both sides. The most reliable bet for landing a good FA is a young guy coming from a team that has salary-cap issues. There have been many 32+ players who have played well and were worth every dime, there are players who get that big paycheck and stop playing well, there are players who just don’t fit the new teams scheme, and there are FA’s who are damaged goods and sit out for a year. I subscribe to the belief that if they are good why hasn’t there team locked them into a new contract. Finally the best way is to build through the draft. FA is a crap shoot, IMO.

  31. Doctor Stroud Says:

I love Bennett’s play, but let’s see who we can get in the draft first and then use free agency.

  32. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Real Possibilities

    1. Dallas uses the franchise tag on DeMarcus Lawrence
    2. Detriot Re-Ups Ezekiel Ansah.
    3. Bradley Chubb is off the board at 7.

    Then what?

Like I said beggers can’t be choosey.
If Bennett or Talib want to come to Tampa; Sign’em Up

  36. Joe Says:

Bradley Chubb is off the board at 7.

Is Arden Key really that much of a stiff????

  37. Deminion Says:

Bring back Bennett and Talib. Cut Ayers Baker Gholston, is conte under contract get him outta here keep tandy for depth even tho he sucks. Get rid of evan emith he get crushed in blocking. who else is a huge cap albatross?

  38. Deminion Says:

    @Joe

Arden Key can play, he looks like a bigger Leonard Floyd to me. Can he play the run ?

  39. Jason Says:

Great player, but due to has zero class. No thank you!

  40. loggedontosay Says:

Michael Bennett was not resigned because he was not a Schiano yes man. Now you know why he was not resigned Joe. Stop listening to 30% of the people. The 30% are miserable and seek not but what they can destroy, mostly in the name of a fictitious man in the sky.

  41. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “look at the absolute, unadulterated, embarrassing trash the Bucs front for an edge rush.” It’s OK Joe to say the name ‘Jason Licht’ in these articles. As in “How on God’s green earth Jason did you think Smitty’s defense was going to win with these group of mediocre talent for a DLine?” Of course, why provide REAL talent when you’ve got Scapegoat Smitty still on the hook.

@Bucsfanman … “there’s no way we can cure every ill on this team through the draft and with PREMIUM FAs. It just isn’t going to happen. The Bucs HAVE to sign players like a Michael Bennett to bridge the gap so that the youngsters develop.” PRECISELY Bucsfanman. Way too many holes to fill, especially on defense, and not enough draft picks or $$$ to do that with. Still, there are a LOT of excellent FAs coming available in 2018, and Licht needs to strategically target certain ones who fit the Bucs’ long-term vision & plan AND target certain others to ‘bridge the gap’ as you say. BTW, please tell me that Jason has a long-term vision & plan.

  42. lambchop Says:

No way Jose. Get Chubb or Minkah in draft, add another CB later in draft. Get Ziggy Ansah in FA if possible and whoever else may be a FA. I haven’t done the research yet. We have a young core team and we will have to build that core over the next few years. Why is everyone clamoring for an overnight SB? It’s not happening!

Noah Spence is an unfortunate casualty of a faulty shoulder. He was productive otherwise. Vernon Hargreaves has been used incorrectly or the talent was simply over-estimated. It happens. I’m over it. Now, the bigger problem is whether the DC or position coaches are the problem or whether we had a big group of useless players. One does not fix the other. So, we have to address both. All the DBs will play much better once we have an effective DL. So, I’m not ready to cast off Hargreaves as a bust just yet.

The Bucs have to move aggressively to avoid bringing in the culture clash brothers of Talib and Bennett. Can we not be THAT desperate as to go looking for stop gap players? Let’s come to reality for a second. These players aren’t going to be around more than 3 years max. Dirk Koetter is not leading this team past the first round of the playoffs. Are we going to invest heavily financially and at the cost of team chemistry for short-term talent that WILL NOT lead to a SB? FAs can smell the desperation in the air with the Bucs, talented pro-bowlers aren’t going to come cheap especially the 2nd time around. And there is no one on this team big enough to hold those two in check. Not coaches, not players. So, you say sign them to 1 year deals and see what happens. We aren’t going anywhere in 2018. So, what exactly is the grand plan with bringing in players with a checkered past? Hope for the best? I’d rather run hard on players who have talent and fit the culture trying to be built here. Be patient. This is going to be a 2-3 year retooling before we go deep into the playoffs. I’m not at all interested in bringing in older players (again) hoping for them to be model citizens while playing at a Pro Bowl level only to get bounced in the first round of the playoffs. We have a LOT of issues to resolve. 3 has to be more consistent and better at decision making. Running game has to be bolstered. OL and DL need to be retooled. S and CB have to be addressed.

I don’t see this as a single off-season solution to the SB.

  43. TrueBuc1970 Says:

    Joe,

I think I said he’s a cancer. I never mentioned the locker room. But I think the facts speak for themselves. He is a verifiable liar and he intentionally tried to hurt another player. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to watch that or support that.

PS – I could care less if he stands, or kneels, or stays in the locker room for the anthem. The dude has no integrity in life. That doesn’t sit well with me.

  44. 813bucboi Says:

the only thing that worries me about arden key is his passion and love for the game….kid is talented but as a gator fan I got to see him up close and personal and sometimes his engine can run hot and cold…..and he was a little suspect in the run game…he reminds me a little of dion Jordan in terms of work ethic, passion and talent….

chubb on the other hand always plays with a high motor from the games I’ve watched….played the run well…

with that said, i’ll be happy with either…lol….GO BUCS!!!!

  45. DB55 Says:

You can’t, unless you are a blind, avowed hater or just too stoned to think straight.
    ——————-
Hey I resemble that remark! Not nice Joseph!

Here’s what your missing it’s not that the FA DEs we have or have had recently it’s not that they can’t play they just aren’t really into you.

Exhibit A: George Johnson in 3 years with the Bucs 0 sacks. In 2 games with the Saints 2.5 sacks.

Plus when we do find a diamond we release said diamond aka Howard Jones udfa with 5 sacks his rookie yr. cut and released his 2nd yr bc we draft Spence who had 5 sacks his rookie year.

The Bucs beat themselves regularly and we’re the blind, stoned, haters, go figure!

  46. OneBucPerson Says:

No thanks. He’s dirty and is easy to anger (see the end of Super Bowl 49 and the game vs Jaguars this year), he’s a diva/distraction (see Vegas incident and anthem protests), and he’s old and will demand close to 10 mil due to position and need at DE. We’d be better off going after Ansah/Lawrence/Irving in FA and then best DE available in round 1.

  47. Espo Says:

“Kneeler” = racist if he’s actually educated on why he’s kneeling. Open racists like him, Kaep, and Riley Cooper have no business being employed in business in such a public eye. Then there’s the ignorant/naive like Evans who appear to be kneeling because they think it’s cool to be part of something.

We should have never let Bennett go. It’s too late now though now that we know who he is. As for Revis, that was a terrible mistake to begin with. Giving up a 1st round pick just to rehab a guy is just sad.

  48. Pickgrin Says:

    Seattle is not cutting Bennett.

They would have to absorb a $5.2M dead cap hit and Bennett’s total compensation is only $3.2M more than that at $8.4M in 2018.

If Bennett did somehow get released and would be willing to come here in the $5M per year range (maybe as high as $6M) – I’d sign him to a 2 year deal with 1/2 guaranteed in 2018.

The Bucs can’t free agent their way out of this DL mess though. Gotta commit serious draft resources to both lines over the next 2 years.

  49. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

When did Joe suddenly approve of “kneelers”?
Joe used to obnoxiously refer to kneelers as “troop grave pisssers”
Guess things change when your team’s superstars follow suit.

    “Joe Says:

Is Arden Key really that much of a stiff????”

I’m curious of Luv’s opinion on this as well since he’s one of my favorites for opinions on the draft here.

From what I’ve read – Key could end up testing out like a Myles Garrett and push Chubb for the top DE spot.

The concern with Key is he’s only played heavy 1 year and has had some injuries. But he probably has the most upside of any DE in the draft.

I’d much rather have a proven reliable DE like Chubb; but I could live with a guy like Key if he checks all the boxes.

To LUV’s other point – it is a very real possibility the DE market is weak. We may need to just take whatever we can get – including Michael Bennet.

We have to come out of FA addressing the D-line / O-line / CB / S positions; and possibly RB. We have like $60-70 mill in space; and will likely free up a good amount more with cuts. We should be able to land like 2-3 stud FAs; and 2 depth role players; while extending some of our own in terms of cap space – but we still need guys that want to play here.

Also … if the team signs Jeremy Hill in free agency and has Hill/Barber/Quizz/Simms … I doubt they’ll spend a draft pick on a RB at all, let alone a 2nd rounder though I am a huge Derrius Guice fan!

  74. Blade Runner Says:

Joe, I don’t understand why you continually advocate for the Bucs to re-sign Michael Bennett who is a race baiting idiot that falsely accused Las Vegas Police Officers of assault which was quickly disproved when the video of the arrest came out. In addition, he is a huge Kapernick supporter and anti-America kneeler. The Bucs need to improve their pass rush but they can do better than sign an anti-white race baiter who also hates the police and America in general!

Maybe the Bucs saw his character flaws years ago which is why they let Bennett go “for no good reason.”

  75. unbelievable Says:

Here’s the thing about that video you linked to Jos, it doesn’t show any of the time when he was on the ground being handcuffed, which was the main part of Bennet’s “story”. Now we see once he’s at the car the cops are definitely being pretty respectful, and Bennet thanks them and shakes hands at the end.

The whole thing is just so damn weird. I don’t know what would cause someone to make that kinda stuff up. I’d like to see the bodycam footage of when he was apprehended and being cuffed on the ground, personally.

But regardless of all that, Bennet should have never went to Seattle in the first place. I wouldn’t mind him coming back, but the truth is we need to add at least 3 defensive ends to our roster, plus a tackle or 2. And we need some young guys at these positions too.

    Lots to do this offseason.

  76. 813bucboi Says:

    people tripping over kneeling….lol….

I doubt any NFL player kneels this up coming season because their message has been heard and the NFL has sunk millions into the cause and has also worked with players and law makers to stop social injustice….

    they had a plan…executed it…and it worked to perfection….

safety Eric Reid is a great player and also a “kneeler”….are we going to pass on him too!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  77. tnew Says:

I’m with Pick on this… Seattle would make no sense to release him in 2018. Coming off of an 8.5 sack season, he has an 8.3 mil cap hit but 5.5 mil of dead cap if released. Unless Seattle is going total rebuild mode and wanting to save real money, releasing him makes little sense. Especially with what happened with Malik McDowell. MM was a risky player to begin with, but add in an ATV accident and a bar arrest, its hard to think he would be a big part of the future. Dumping Bennett to save 2.8 mil in salary cap doesn’t make a ton of sense.

If you are really looking for a cap casualty from Seattle look at Richard Sherman first. 2.2 mil dead cap with a total cap hit of 13.2 mil..

Joe is not even trying to say Bennett and Talib are even close to being at their peak. But if you didn’t know their age/names/baggage and watched their play, then watch the Bucs DEs/corners (not named “Grimes”) there is no possible way one could argue Bennett/Talib are worse than what the Bucs have.

Joe is all about developing young talent through the draft. Tell Joe, anyone, who exactly who has this current defensive coaching staff developed at corner or defensive end? The two best corners the Bucs have are seasoned vets. You could argue the young guys (Ryan Smith, Vernon Hargreaves, Noah Spence) got worse or at least plateaued.

If folks believe the Bucs can immediately improve (as in 2018) at defensive end and corner by staying away from productive, albeit aging vets, and go with the rookies, you are a bigger gambler than Joe ever will be.

Now if there is a shakeup in coaches in the secondary with guys with a proven resume to develop a corner, that’s a whole different story.

  81. The Graham Tram Says:

Bennett would be a gift and can play. Unless you don’t care about winning next year, you can’t refuse talent at this point.

  83. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

When the U.S. Armed Forces puts out an official statement condemning kneelers and discontinues paying the NFL millions in advertisement dollars, then the melting snowflakes might have grounds for their argument.
I’ve seen just as many military veterans support kneelers as oppose. It’s a matter of opinion, not patriotism. Why people are so offended by peaceful protest, I’ll never be able to understand.

  84. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

Also, keep your eyes on the flag and stop watching the kneelers! If you’re not standing full attention, you’re being bigoted.

  85. DoSomething Says:

  93. pick6 Says:

the now-32-year-old bennett can take over the Robert Ayers role of mouthy, overpaid veteran with rapidly declining ability. so glad we have an option to cover that important locker room element.

  94. PriMech54 Says:

I remember back in ’07 when everyone was griping about how the NYG invested too much into their defensive line. They ended up having one of the meanest rotations in this generation and took down Brady TWICE because they were pummeling him to the dirt with fresh bodies. Look at Jax… Campbell, Fowler, Yngokwe, Dareus, Malik Jackson. All of a sudden they have a mean defense in the playoffs. It’s really not rocket science.

Sign Bennett if he wants to come. We need a little bit of nasty up in here for f*cks sake.

  95. Steven007 Says:

@LUV, Randy Gregory is the exact comp I had in mind for Key. He scares me and not in a good way.

  96. Steven007 Says:

813 Jordan is a good comp too. The result is the same: pass.

  97. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

This is driving me crazy. So many comments and posts keep saying we need a single beast DE.

How mantimes has that worked for the Bucs?

The Bucs need to revamp both lines with at least 8 new faces to battle the incumbents, improve the starting lineup, and bolster the depth.

Fix the trenches, fix the Bucs.

  98. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I could get behind a short time deal for Bennett so long as our first pick in the draft is a DE.

  99. Joe Says:

The Bucs need to revamp both lines

Unless Joe has been repeatedly conned (both on and off the record) over the past two years, the Bucs not only have no desire, but no plans whatsoever to “revamp” the offensive line.

Now of course, the wild card(s) are the injuries to Dotson, Marpet and Sweezy.

  100. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The way I see it is this…getting a proven vet is a good idea, because we need a bridge player. So sign him if healthy and draft a young guy.

Of course, don’t sign him if we can get someone better. But at least we know Bennett is a hard worker.

  101. NFLNut Says:

    813bucboi,

I’d love a Guice/Hill/Barber/Sims RB corps as well, no doubt about it.

As for ORLANDO BROWN … he was projected as a 2nd rounder a month or so ago but he’s now being projected to get picked in the 20s … l’ve watched him play and he’s a monster … but it’s as if he’s playing CB and his side of the line is shut off … re-watch that Oklahoma v Georgia game … the Georgia defensive ends don’t even attempt to engage him … they just leave him alone and double rush the LG … it’s weird.

I think he has great potential but I also think he may be surprised by the speed and power of actual NFL DE’s who will go right at him, rather than being scared of him like the college guys were.

I honestly think we’ll end up drafting Chubb at #7 but if we trade down with the Dolphins and get Quenten Nelson plus an additional 2nd and 3rd round pick I sure won’t complain!

  103. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Unless Joe has been repeatedly conned (both on and off the record) over the past two years, the Bucs not only have no desire, but no plans whatsoever to “revamp” the offensive line.” Oh Lordy I hope you’ve been conned Joe. The OLine we spent most of the year with simply didn’t cut it. Gave up 40 sacks this year, as opposed to 35 in 2016 and 27 in 2015 … all with Ali Marpet & Donovan Smith & Dotson in there (Hint: our OLine is regressing & it’s hurting our offensive production).

Bucs best bet in 2018 IMO would be to get a quality Center AND Left Tackle in free agency and/or the draft, then move Marpet back to RG & put Donovan over at LG. Keep Dotson at RT but let him fight it out with Pamphile (IF we re-sign him). If we can’t find a Center, then Hawley will do just fine for a year or maybe even 2. That’d give us plenty of flexibility on the OLine in the event of injuries, and I’m convinced that Marpet & D. Smith as Guards will would dominate in the run game.

OR … we could let Jason Licht & Dirk Koetter tell us once again how great our OLine is. Until next year when we end up in the NFC South cellar once again.

  104. DB55 Says:

    Nut

Anything is better than Caleb and often injured Dotson. But Caleb will ruin Winston’s career garuntee.

  105. NFLNut Says:

^ I’d be all for trading down to add another 2nd rounder, drafting Quenten Nelson in the 1st, Orlando Brown and Billy Price in the second and then going all-defense after that … an offensive line of Smith/Nelson/Price/Marpet/Brown with a backup 5 of Wester/Pamphile/Hawley/Evan/Dotson would be one of the youngest, best and deepest in the entire NFL. If we do that though, we spend heavy on defense in free agency as well as we need at least one starting quality DE and CB!

  106. DB55 Says:

    Nflnut

Agreed 100% except Hawley, love the guy to death but his knees. He managed this year but he ain’t getting any younger.

  107. Joe Says:

all with Ali Marpet & Donovan Smith & Dotson in there (Hint: our OLine is regressing & it’s hurting our offensive production).

Joe has been typing this all year but to no avail: Joe has seen some really horrible offensive lines (Seattle, Denver). The Bucs are not one of them.

Bucs have much, much bigger problems (DE/CB).

  108. lambchop Says:

    @813bucboi,

No to Arden Key for the reasons you listed. Too much risk at #7. I have a feeling his draft stock is going to plummet as it comes closer to the combine and pro days.

Minkah Fitzpatrick, Bradley Chubb, Denzel Ward, Derwin James, Clelin Ferrell, or Quenton Nelson (if these coaches and GM get with reality) – one of which will surely be available at #7. No need to draft Arden Key.

What if Bradley Chubb and Saquon Barkley are available at #7. Would it be a difficult choice for the Bucs? I guess it depends on what happens in the FA market.

  109. Espo Says:

    Rhonde

Protesting one race being legally put down by police but ignoring the same for another race. It’s racist. Then the very well covered lie about the police to further his racist agenda. Did you forget about that?

  110. lambchop Says:

Arden Key is also more of a hybrid DE/LB. We have that problem in Noah Spence. We just need an out and out nasty SOB DE. Screw being cute. And I hate the 4-3, 3-4, anything that works defensive scheme. Stick to one (with an occasional switch) but get players that fit that one scheme.

  111. 813bucboi Says:

    NFLNUT

I agree….NFL players wont be scared….they’ll go right at him or around him if his foot work isn’t up to par…..

after looking at the teams in front of us, it may be tough to get chubb….browns have 2 picks in the top 4 but 4 of the top 7 teams need a QB(browns, giants, broncos, jets)….

-colts could use chubb but may take barkley to pair with m.mack…..
    -jets could use chubb….
    -browns could use chubb….
-gettleman could take chubb…we all saw him build a dline in CAR….

the only team I see for sure not taking chubb would be the broncos….I pray chubb falls and he turns out to be a dominate DE for years to come….GO BUCS!!!!

  112. 813bucboi Says:

    Lamb

I like all those players you list….I would be temped to take derwin james because he can play multiple positions(s,nickle,LB)…

if both chubb and barkley are on the board at #7 I hope licht is smart enough to take chubb….that’s a no brainer for me….lots of good backs in the draft….I really like guice and Ronald jones from USC….GO BUCS!!!!

  113. Rod Munch Says:

No thanks. The anti-American pro-cop killer scum can stay out west with the rest of the garbage.

  114. DB55 Says:

Imo the only way you’ll get a dominate dt in this team is to trade for him. No top tier FA is coming to Tampa and even the best rookie may top out at 5 sacks or less.

  115. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “Bucs have much, much bigger problems (DE/CB).” Agree 100% with that Joe. You could add DT to those DE & CB priorities and I’d be 100% onboard with that too. Still, add just one piece to the OLine puzzle (an experienced LT) and we’ve got the pieces (with a little switching around) to light up the NFC South offensively. Add 7 more points/game & we could be looking at anywhere from a 10-6 to a 12-4 record next year if the defense just treads water.

  116. DB55 Says:

    Def

    I think you misspelled RT.

  117. GhostofSchiano Says:

I am afraid I do not trust Licht in free agency this year. After letting Calaias Campbell and Dontari Poe pass us by when we had more money to spend only to bring in Swaggy Baker and re-tread DE’s is all I need to see. #FIRE LICHT!

  118. Buc believer Says:

GMC wants him signed so someone else can finally be blamed for our O line sucking. Too bad Geraldine you can’t run from what you really are!

  119. StPeteBucsFan Says:

As Koetter likes to say, you can never have too many good players. If you pay too much for players that are not good however you don’t have enough money left for the good ones.

I believe both Talib and Bennett are past their prime or “great’ years. However I do believe they have enough gas in the tank to be “good” and we need good players.

Show me the money!!! If the price if right I’d love to have both Bennett and Talib and resign Grimes. Draft a couple DE’s and perhaps even a DT…load up on the line.

Certainly if we signed both Grimes and Talib that takes cornerback from the list of major concerns for 2018. Yeah it’s a short term solution but it could be a great solution.

  120. BringBucsBack Says:

  122. OneBucPerson Says:

Hey @Joe I just noticed something not one person has mentioned thus far in relation to Bennett. Outside of age, cost, and conduct/distraction concerns not one person has mentioned how often he commited penalties this year. He was tied for being the 3rd most penalized player in the league with 12. That’s a bad fit on a team that was heavily penalized this year (I think the Bucs were the 12th most penalized team in the league this season), that to me is either him being too twitchy or not game aware enough.

Since ESPO never came back and saw HowToSpell's comment, I will back him up.

I guess Joe forgot the patently RACIST black power salute that Bennet only displayed after tackling white players.

I guess Joe forgot Bennet trying to get mileage out of claiming he was treated badly by police based on his race. Lying to further your own agenda and claiming racism where it is proven it didn't exist–IS RACIST. Pulling da race card to cover your own poor behavior–IS RACIST.

Nice to see Joe thinks it is all a joke enough to gang up against one of his own readers (ESPO) who points these things out. We'll now you can gang up on me, too. Racism apologist.

I wouldn't mind seeing Talib back. He is a man who admitted his mistakes and blames nobody but himself when his behavior affected his career. Bennett is a race-baiter, no matter how much Joe thinks it's all something to LOL about.

  124. WillieG Says:

Oh yeah, exactly what we need. Two more militant (future) convicts. No thanks. We’ve already had future cons D Jackson and TJ Ward plus “he’s too lazy and unmotivated to not be a pothead and future convict”, Baker.

The guy is garbage and those grouping him with Talib should do me a favor and go jump off the Skyway. Talib got tons of bad press locally when he was accused at shooting at a guy – well then it turns out the guy was a convicted sex offender with a restraining order who violating it to harass his sister. Talib’s only offense is that he missed. Bennett meanwhile is a racist piece of trash who has enough money to leave the country he hates so much yet stays in order to further divide people. He’s garbage and a non-fruit town like Tampa wants nothing to do with piece of trash.

Bryce Love is another RB I like, but Ronald Jones would be good too.

Check out Tankathon’s current mock. It actually looks kinda realistic from a Buc’s perspective. But, I don’t like the fact that we miss out on Bradley Chubb by one pick. But they’ve mocked 3 rounds so it’s kinda interesting. I think you’ll like the 3rd Rd pick they gave us.

  131. Greg Says:
