Six Pro Bowls In A Row For Gerald McCoy!

The lone beast in the Bucs’ defensive line is going back to Orlando.
It will Gerald McCoy’s sixth consecutive Pro Bowl.
Bucs icon and defensive tackle Warren Sapp made seven straight trips during his years in Tampa (1997-2003). Despite 10 sacks for the Oakland Raiders in 2006, Sapp didn’t get a Pro Bowl not year.
McCoy’s five sacks lead the team. Pro Bowl qualification is a combination of fan votes (McCoy didn’t rank well at his position), coaches votes and player votes. So McCoy largely made the NFC team because guys in the league believe he belongs among the elite.
Kudos to McCoy. Fletcher Cox of the Eagles and Aaron Donald of the Rams will be the starting interior defensive linemen for the NFC. McCoy will be their only backup.
Unfortunately, McCoy is the Bucs’ lone Pro Bowler right now. Lavonte David will need help to get there, which is very possible, as guys drop out because of injury or Super Bowl contention.

Unfortunately we have a probowler on our line who has little impact on one of the worst passrushing teams in the league and. His presence is a baby sized drop in the bucket being on one of the worst defenses in the league.
I could care less about if he is or isn’t a probowler. He’s not having the impact on this defense for them to be anywhere near good enough.

You can’t expect McCoy to get any praise from fans. Hes part of a line that is one of the weakest in the league…..against both the run and pass.
At the end of the day the guy is on T.V. and publicized constantly. He haven’t been the generational talent he has ever been touted as. Maybe not his fault because who is to say he ever asked for it…….But when a player gets hyped the way McCoy has been he is expected to make game changing plays and he has never delivered since being here.
Some fans realized McCoy wasn’t this type of player years ago and really never cared if he was highlighted by the media or made pro bowls. Other maintain Gerald to the expectations that come with pro bowl berths and ESPN interviews and they will be letdown every time.
There never will be a solid reason to hate McCoy unless somebody can prove he demanded to be the team captain and decided to put his image on beer cups and on stadium walls………….But there doesn’t have to be a solid reason to be a hater. So long as there’s is a legit reason to expect McCoy to play at an elite level there is a legit reason to hate, whether you think it’s fair or not.

Lamarcus……He’s one of the few guys in the league that can get at the QB from the tackle position. And if he gets a mismatch(see Miami game or was in Jets, I don’t care to remember) he can take over the game.
I doubt McDonald can get to the QB like McCoy……I haven’t honestly studied his play but somebody said he had 4 sacks. I saw one last night and he got it moving laterally……not from ability.

Can’t stop anyone. But he’s got great get off. That’s all we have been sold for all these sad years on defense. McCoy is at the heart of all the loosing defenses. Super nice guy. Not a factor on the d line. Go to your pro bowl. We are 4-12 and worst defense in league.

Even if he does is only luck of the draw…..I will never say that McCoy has taken over a game against a divion foe. That is the type of player haters expect him to be……….Need your probowler players to take over the competition they see twice per year…….that or you need better pro bowlers.
McCoy can’t take over these very important games because he just ain’t that good……..They see him twice a year and that’s why he mostly gets shut down in them.
You can give the guy as many probowls as you want but you can’t rely on him to win you games……..This is part of the reason for the hate.

GMC doesn’t look for Pro Bowls…..they look for him…..To blame him for the Bucs losing is absurd.
And, I agree that LVD deserves to be there but it is a different position and he is not in competition with GMC.
GMC is being blamed for the Buc’s losing because of his salary and the impression that he doesn’t care.
For me, it’s players like Baker & TJ Ward that contribute to the losing and although the jury is still out on Djax…..I think it could be argued given the money that we would be better off with Joe’s lounge singer from Vero Beach.
So, man up and congratulate GMC…..and if he is such poison and a cancer we wouldn’t get a 7th round conditional pick in 2020 for him.

Lamarcus…….McCoy was out yesterday and the defensive got owned on the rush. They rushed all day on us and we never adjusted and never stopped them. Our defense got absolutely rolled last night. The only way we really stopped them was when they had pentalties or Ryan missed open receivers.
My answer to your question is that there is no difference in our defense if McCoy is in or not. Bad unit either way

That defense had a fire about them. They texted wore down. They fought hard. They took their licks but they had no quit. That was key for me. I think cuz Hof players in building watch front row. But I expected a blowout cuz gmc out listening to some fans and u know we balled the same. Clearly probowls are not for players like LVd. Sad

Fire? They had fire? Dude they had to miss well over 20 tackles yesterday. They also missed assignments all night leaving vacated voids all over the field.
They may of had a spark but they had no ignition, or oxygen that is required to call that garbage fire……….they couldn’t even tackle Matt freaking Ryan last night. It was an abysmal performance compounded with many players caught on film slacking…….You can call it fire if you wish but I see no reason for a pat on the back when this unit can’t stop a divisional team in eight quaters(maybe more if you go back to last year).

All I saw was Atlanta going on very long drives all night. Look at how many possessions they had compared to last time we played…..Their game plan and the fact that our offense maintained a lot of the TOP had more to do with the actual point total then how good/bad our defense was.
I didn’t see us do anything well on defense last night. I have no idea how you call it a great job.
The main thing I hated about that performance is how they continued to keep running the ball all day on us and we never adjusted to take it away. We played scared to get burnt. We played not to lose and let them move the ball at will.
What exactly where we so good at last night? I sure don’t remember it.

GMC is a mirror of the orginazitional problem here IMO.
It’s just an inability to build a team properly. Gerald’s Line has not one player on it that can win a 1vs1 matchup…….Say what you want about McCoy but he opens up 1v1s on the edge.
You either need to get somebody on the edge that can take away that side of the field or get somebody next to McCoy that can completely destroy the pocket………..How can this orginazation continue yearly without being able to exploit all the 1vs1 matchups we get?
All we get is McCoy getting a little push on his 2vs1 while everyone around him get destroyed in their 1v1……there’s always a soft pocket and the edges are wide open(which is partly why Ryan just ran for chunks every time we had decent coverage last night)

All I know Suh and Donald to this point have never taken their teams to the superbowl so what ? Fletcher Cox is not taking the Eagles to the Superbowl by himself but that entire team did it together. McCoy has never had a consistent defense around him. He has been the best DT since Sapp. Coaches and players vote him in but the cornballs on this site think they know more that they have a more experienced eye than the coaches or the players who actually play against him. Sapp had Rice and McCoy has had squat. Most of the fools who hate him so much have probably never even played a game of pick up ball thinking they know what it takes to be a DT in the NFL. I would love to see you chumps say the things you type up here to his face. They’d probably bump a kid out of line to get him to sign their jerseys!

I can agree that if you had a true superstar presence(Warren Sapp-like) in McCoys shoes he could get a guy like Baker to play harder.
But what isn’t black doesn’t mean it’s white or vise versa.
That’s where you haters lose the attention or the rest of the fan base. It’s not McCoys job to get Baker to play at a high level. It’s also silly to require that from McCoy. It’s an excuse at best…….It’d be great if McCoy was that Sapp-type player but he isn’t or never will be.
This is where scapegoating comes into play. You are literally blaming McCoy for Baker being a bust. Nothing could be further from the truth. Lamarcus……Reguarding not a dressing the DE position my belief is that they wanted to load up on offense to see just how good Dirk is and if he could get them to another level………That’s my conspirity theory and I believe it makes sense.
The result has been pure failure……..My take, bring in a coach who can get the O playing at their potential and start building the D.

You know what does make sense to me? Is blaming the offense….Every heard of the term “complimentary football”?
Maybe our defense could use a confidence boost…..If they are looking at McCoy they are looking at the wrong place. But they likely aren’t looking at McCoy for motivation……….A good spot for this defense to look for motivation would be from the other side of the football……….Do you really have think the defense wouldn’t love to play with a lead for a change?
This team was built to command leads in games. If you reall6 think this team was built to win based on the defense you might be certifiable…….They built this thing to win with offense and the only thing our offense has done for two years is gift wrap a depreciation for the D.

I believe Ward was hurt and he came for his redemption probably first call. Djx was a free agent and like Monken said he came for the money. It shows on tape. If they knew Baker was lazy before hand they wouldn’t sign him Grimes is a bridge player not a 1. He can’t cover JJ. No body that’s half arse is coming here. Sorry

I get what ur point is about that aspect offense. Last Sb winners built teams w run game and defense. Football hasn’t changed despite the fact they made it a passing league. Which Qb has ever won a Sb without a decent d and a run game and just off Qb play? Or just the young performances or thier conduct like eating Ws and/or starting Roits on sidelines, JW making idoits plays, JW making linebacker tackles me13 steam head moments…..
We ain’t going nowhere until address 3 issues. Leadership from vets, A run game, and a defense.
To me the vets have been the worse disappointment for me starting with the Hamster
JW needs some different kind of vets around him on the football game aspect. Someone who can straighten him out. On the sidelines. A player.

You look at most of the free agents we have ever acquired here in Tampa Bay and the vast vast vast majority have failed to live up to expectations.
Coincidencely almost every single free agent we had that worked was the same time that we had a championship coach in town. Maybe a championship team makeup had a lot to do with that as well.
Point is, there is a reason we flop in free agency so much. There is a reason we flopped with FA so much and a reason teams like Steelers and Pats hit so much more often…….hint…..it’s not magic or stupid luck

Think about it. If your a stud de looking for Hof numbers….. U go with a talent like Gmc. I’ll take a pay cut to get that Hof status. U dream of playing with a skilled 3tech and accumulate alot of sacks and opportunities. Why has not happened?? Is Licht saying no? Then I hear reports that say Campbell blindly sign with Jax. Freeney going to non contenders I can’t think of the rest of moves but I wonder why Tampa gets no calls or tryouts nothing??

I totally agree with you. You need more then just a passing game to win in this league…….Just look at the Panthers game we played. They took our pass attack away and without an offense of their own won it decidingly.
Our team has nothing to offer after a pass attack which is sad because we have a very good LB core to build upon…….Whichever the reason was for continuing to build on offense here without addressing the run game was a complete misevaluation……….The thing that really bothers me is that Dirk took over a team that was good at pass rush and rush stop……..He has made this team worse

I can’t honestly judge Licht on Campbell…..Campbell was given 30 mil guaranteed and there’s no way to tell if Licht was given that much spending freedom.
We do know he was given at least 20 mil to spend which was spent on DJax and has also been a complete failure.

Koetter told JW that he didn’t have to do too much “now” because HE HAD A GOOD DEFENSE. Boy Koetter was wrong. JW (23) then has to once again carry the team with 2 injuries in the same shoulder. Gets roasted by this fan base GMC has no accountability for anything. No expectations. Gmc has no goals but pro bowls. Chasing Chidi Ahanaotu or Bogger McFarland ghost. Gmc doesn’t add value but a quick take off. Fans has no goals for him. What career low sacks 5 …blame everybody else around him .JW is a Ironman playing his heart out injured getting his shoulder driven to the ground and gets roasted for poor performance. I’m not understanding anyone logic and simple common sense when gmc gets praised I just can’t comprehend and it doesn’t make sense.

I think we was making a 34 defense with Baker, gholston signings. And then drafted beckwith. This is a 34 built team playing 43. This is an issue. Sapp coming saying gmc not happy with usage he said he is only a 3tech Gmc said is a straight shooting burst guy and only 3tech. This is a strange possiblity gmc has this defense on hostage. Why am I seeing this. I think GMC will be just as effective as a 34 DE like Donald. This never happened. Gmc is refusing to move. It’s obvious so our defense sucks.

Trade McCoy for maybe a 2nd and 3rd or 4th Round pick.
Let him go off to a quality team, it’s just not working here, and they have to purge some fat.
The defense looks the same without him.

If we had a decent DE, who could chase a QB back toward the pocket- McCoy would have 15 sacks.

When I woke this morning and saw he was selected to the Probowl again and Lavonte again left out I cursed out loud. No way has his game been Probowl caliber this year. This supposed best in the league game is nothing but a friggin’ joke and it’s why no one watches the game.
Hopefully David will be honored by an AP First Team All Pro selection.

I derive no pleasure from this. It is telling though that he was not well-received by the fans in the voting process, yet, was voted in by his peers and coaches around the league. So, what does that tell you?!
He lost the popularity contest that so many people believe he has rested his laurels on.
Personally, the way this defense performed this year (even LVD) I don’t think anyone deserves recognition. IMO.

For the 6th time in a row the league has spoken.i agree David deserves very strong consideration as well. Yet many posers on this site choose to actively (as actively as you can hiding behind a fake name on a keyboard in your mommy’s basement) tear down McCoy, who the league and the eyeball test and the numbers say is arguably our best defensive player. Moronic and sad. Congrats Mr McCoy! You played hard, hurt and the league recognized you are a top three DT in the game again this year! Go Bucs!

Anthem if you actually think Kwon is having a good year then you know even less football than I thought. Kwon has missed like 1,000 tackles, blown coverage’s basically every game and just overall not been good on many occasions which is one reason why we cant stop the run. My goodness dude do you even watch the games? But I will say McCoy making the Pro Bowl this year over LVD just shows how big of a joke the Pro Bowl has become.
