Does Dirk Koetter Actually Want To Return?

December 31st, 2017

“I think I’d rather have you fumble, Jameis. At least we have a chance to recover fumbles.”

Joe is writing this post after America’s Turnover Machine, Jameis Winston, threw his third pick of the game today against the Saints.

Jameis had a nice drive going, some really good passes, had the team in field goal range and appeared to be about to take the lead. Then he throws into triple coverage for an injured Mike Evans.

For all the good Jameis does, then he pulls stupid s(p)it like that. Geez.

Yes, Jameis is a talented quarterback, but Jiminy Christmas he is ruining his career with the Bucs with these turnovers.

Yes, Jameis cut down on the fumbles today. But he made up for it by tossing picks.

Does Koetter really want this Bucs job? He’ll have to spend so much time trying to fix Jameis he doesn’t have the time to help the rest of the team, and it needs help folks.

Right now this job sure seems like a dead end for Koetter a year from now. This team is much worse off than Joe thinks we may all realize.

But of course, Jameis had the last laugh for the haters. He had a touchdown drive for the ages against the NFC South champs.  It was 11-plays, 95-yards and Jameis nailed Chris Godwin down the right sideline with a perfect pass for the game-winning score.

Picks? Yeah, Jameis had them today.

More importantly, he walked off the field a winner.

He’s never boring! I’m glad he’s my QB!

  2. Jarod Lauderdale Says:

Yeah Joe , if you could have only said that last line like 6 more times this season ! But guess what , ya didn’t . nuff said

  3. El_Buc941 Says:

Joe I have an idea…trade up from the #9 pick, get a DE in the 1st round and more picks from the trade, then trade back into the 1st round using desean Jackson and our second 4th round pick and get another DE.we have our LBs corps stacked.time to restock our rushers.

  4. tmaxcon Says:

why would anyone want to coach or play for this pathetic franchise is the real question. they have NOT won a meaningful game in 16 years. it’s hopeless with the glazer clowns making decisions.

  5. Bucs Brand Says:

Koetter is humble enough to self evaluate but hopefully he is not too loyal to some of this staff…..we need a new QB coach. Jameis mechanics need some help. Sometimes i wonder how much his shoulder injury had an effect on his grip on the ball? Certainly couldn’t have helped

    Joe

You sound like you don’t know who famous Jameis Winston is. News flash he throws picks just like every other qb in the league but with 2 mins left no timeouts ball on the 5 down by 4 the only q.b I want in the game is Famous Jameis Winston.

    Huh?

  8. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs knew who they were getting when they drafted Winston – he’s a guy that plays his best when he’s backed into a corner, often a corner he got himself into. He will improve in that regard as he matures, much like Favre did – but even an older Favre would drive Packers and Vikings fans nuts by making bad throws – that’s what Winston is and efforts to take that away is what leads to fumbles as you’re asking Winston to stand in the pocket and NOT try to make plays. If you’re saying Winston can’t throw the ball into coverage to make a play, AND you design the offense that he has to stand behind a terrible defensive line and you don’t roll him out, what is there to do? He has to work on ball security when in the pocket, but that can be fixed as it’s not an issue with pocket presence.

Anywho out of the INTs today really only the 3rd one was a bad one, and even then he’s throwing up a ball to Evans, he just overthrew it. Sure it shouldn’t be thrown, but I get the idea, if Evans is there, throw it up and let him make a play.

For the first INT that was Winston just flat out not seeing the safety and the safety making a good read – that happens to everyone. Heck Tom Brady did that in the game here.

For the 2nd INT… actually I don’t remember any detail, so maybe it was really bad – anyone with football knowledge got details on it, on what Winston was trying to do? (hint: football knowledge rules out the Winston haters)

  9. FR Says:

“Picks? Yeah, Jameis had them today”. Today!!!!!!!!!! thats funny

  10. JonBuc Says:

I don’t think he does, actually. Given the choice of heading back to Idaho for huntin’ , fishin’, BBQin’ and golf tournament big baller…or coming back to a likely doomed scenario…where he’s paid out either way…I get the sense he was “ Already Gone ( Eagles )”. His quote following the Panther game is evidence to that.

  11. ben Says:

I believe “With all his weapons” Winston is NOT in the playoffs but M.M. is

  12. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Maybe Joe is like Winston, Jekyll and Hyde? Sometimes I am confused on how Joe feels about Winston when he comes out of left field with this article. Majority of the article is about how this team has no hope then ends with at least we win. WTF! If it’s only about today then kiss my season tickets goodbye! It’s about tomorrow and always will be! Go Bucs!

  13. Chris Says:

Jeezus, you guys are such homers. Great drive, but did we need it with 3, could have been 6 picks. Hold everyone but him to a higher standard. Hate certain players, but nit the mist important position on the field. Friggin agenda driven , college loyalist trolls. If youre happy with 1 td, 3 ints , youre sad. Hate the hell out of GMC, I get some of it, he is at times average at best, but 1 td- 3 ints, aint even average. Be fair in your criticism , you look stupid as hell by posting .

  14. Bobby M. Says:

After NINE straight losses…He walked off the field a winner.

    Hoo….ray

  15. Rod Munch Says:

The Winston haters having to live with that game winning TD all offseason, they’re going to be just walking around angry for 9 months because of it. LOL!

  16. Lakeland Says:

On that last drive Jameis threw an INT right LB Craig Roberston, and he dropped it. He need to put in a lot of work this off season. That pass should never have been thrown, especially with the game on the line.

  17. Lakeland Says:

    ** right to**

  18. S of S Says:

Chris. Great post, people need to open there eyes about the two players you mentioned. Last week people blamed the kicker for losing the game and not the 3 turnovers from the Qb. GMC got to go not worth the money.

  19. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

This was a turning point game for Jameis!

    Kudos to #3

Licht’s 2017 rookie class is looking special.
    Get those shades on haters.
    The future is bright.

To all those negative on #3… happy new year. May you find perspective and some football acumen in 2018.

  20. Pickgrin Says:

“This team is much worse off than Joe thinks we may all realize”

Winston, Evans, DJax, Howard, Brate, Godwin, Marpet / GMC, LVD, Kwon, Beckwith, Justin Evans looking good, Grimes if he comes back – that’s a lot of really good players and mostly young as well. Sooo – I disagree Joe…

  21. Chris Says:

Not a hater Munch, hold the #1 pick franchise qb to higher expectations than the FSU homers and this sites owners. I want him to be great, but afraid he’ll be good at times, average at others, putrid at other times

  22. Lakeland Says:

I don’t get all of the joy and elation. The Bucs just finish 5-11 and will miss the playoffs again. And will finish as the Bottom-Feeder in the NFC South. Even the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars ended their long playoff droughts. And the Bucs were favored ahead of those teams during the off season.

  23. Lakeland Says:

I just don’t get it……I may be slow or something..but I don’t get all of this joy and elation.

  24. Chris Says:

Me either Lakeland, no one on here should be celebrating any coach, gm, or player. But some seemed justified by one win from our coach, or obe 95 yrd drive from our franchise qb.

  25. Bkgrime Says:

Jameis is the best thing to happen to Tampa since Brooks

  26. NFLNut Says:

Stupid article title Joe and a silly article.

Jammeis is one of the three most talented QBs in the entire NFL and he’s younger than the other two (Rodgers and Wentz) … if he wants to, he will sign the richest contract in the history of the NFL soon …

  27. Reach87 Says:

Its not an interception unless the defender catches it.

  28. Reach87 Says:

Those fed up with the coach, the perrenial pro bowl DT, the owners, the franchise (I didn’t say elite) QB, the beer prices, the lack of an indoor practice facility for so long, the rationale for having an indoor facility, the uniforms, the playing time for one RB, celebrating a clutch 39 yard TD, scrapping instead of tanking, not paying for free agents, paying too much for free agents, keeping “bums”, pointing out how well the “bum” we cut is playing for another team…i could go on. For all of you who cry that they are sick and tired of “x” or cannot take another second of “y”, then don’t. 31 other teams to “root” for…if you can’t take it anymore. Come back when we start winning and when things are smooth and easy, the way you deserve them to be. Bye. Go Bucs!

  29. Bucsace Says:

Koetter’s future in Tampa is tied directly to Jameis’s progress next season…….if Jameis looks like he has this season a year from today….Koetter and Jameis will both be gone with the wind

  30. satchseven Says:

bucsace you may be right but they need to hire a real qb coach. i would pull mike martz out retirement tell him you just here to coach jw3 out of the dumb stuff.

  31. D-Rome Says:

Right now this job sure seems like a dead end for Koetter a year from now. This team is much worse off than Joe thinks we may all realize.

I agree with you Joe. It’s great that Koetter is coming back for a 3rd year and I say that as someone who has no confidence in the head coach. It seems that those who are “Totally Confident” in the head coach and GM think they can find a veteran, game changing DE out in FA. Any offensive or defensive linemen they draft is not going to have an immediate impact. The Bucs may end up having to give up a draft pick or two if they want a high quality DE.

In short, with all the holes this team actually has I simply do not see the Bucs turning it around next year. Jason Licht made too many mistakes over the past 4 years and now both he and Koetter will pay the price for that next year.

  32. Lightningthunder Says:

No guts, no glory. You can’t steal second base with 1 foot on second. Would you rather have Alex Smith or Jameis Winston. My idol, joe willie would throw either 6 interceptions or 6 td’s in a game. Either way he was exciting.
