Been voting very confident but moved down to confident this time. Not throwing the towel in on you Dirk……..but show me something soon!
A trade would have been nice.
The problem with the team is the players. We can’t fire another coaching staff after two years of poor results. The reoccurring theme here is the players. If anything changes after another year of poor results, it better be the soft mentality of our D. Our D plays with no edge, literally and figuratively.
It would be very disappointing to hit the eject button on this coaching staff, and to keep the same old losing players. GMC is great, and if he can’t help turn it around then he should get a fresh start somewhere else. We need to pay with an edge.
It would be the definition of insanity to fire our coach and keep the same old losing players with a losing mentality. GMC is very talented, but for whatever reason his defenses underachieve. I just don’t get it.
No coach can win with the defensive talent we have.
You can get mad at the coach all u want.
When you don’t have the players that can stop the run rush the passer or cover anyone in the secondary…… You get what we have
I’m still totally confident. But I’m looking at it in the long term, as opposed to people who are letting their emotions decide.
For example, I’m pretty certain we’ll lose this week (but I hope I am wrong). My opinion won’t change…because I’m thinking long term (as in seasons, not one season or one game).
I think the people who go back and forth from game to game are fair weather fans. In fact, I think that is pretty much the definition of one.
In this case though, we have a grouping of games with poor and inconsistent results, so I understand why some people may be turning on him.
That said…long term.
I believe the team of Dirk Koetter and Jason Licht can not only lead us into playoff contention, but into being an annual superbowl contender. I don’t think back to the ‘glory days’ and wish Jon Gruden would take over the coaching. I remember what people are in denial about where Jon is concerned…he tore this team apart. He was single-handedly responsible for the end of our greatest era in Tampa. He flipped quarterbacks on a whim.
Was it Jeff Garcia or Brian G. who said “Jon Gruden loves quarterbacks…but he loves to date them”?
While if he did come back (which I do not believe for a second), I would hope he’s learned since then, but I don’t see it.
Dirk is a fine coach…a very fine one. We just need fans and owners to stand with him. Not flip from being Stick Carriers to Torch Carriers in a single season.
SteveK Says “The problem with the team is the players.”
You nailed it!
And I also believe Jason Licht is changing that, but it takes time. He’s done a very good job of building the offense. Heck, once the Oline starts gelling, I believe our running game will too (though I can get behind a RB change next year).
Five of the last seven good or great picks were on defense. We’re not that far from getting that side of the ball done too.
Time is all we need. We are on the verge of greatness…unless our owners let the fans run off yet another coach.
I agree with you. I also voted totally confident. And, Licht has done a good job with the offense. We need another year to get the defense right. Hitting the reset button on this coaching staff would be shortsighted.
I’m just going to start skipping every post you make as soon as I read Bonzai.
We gotta wear Pewter colored glasses and just accept mediocrity and just believe that magically we are going to become something excellent we have YET TO SEE ONCE CONSISTENTLY from this team under this regime.
Gotta love it. We aren’t allowed to judge them for what they are but only what we wish that they will become one day? Even though nothing has been shown to us proving they are even close to that? lol Yea… Delusion
Not even worth discussing with you. Have a nice day lol.
It has come to the point where I have little confidence in the players and it trickles down to the coaching staff. On blown offensive plays it’s easy to blame Dirk for “terrible playcalling” but when you have Mike Evans open on a fly route for an easy score and a chance to get back in the game and you overthrow him you can’t blame Dirk for that. I used to defend Jameis over everything and I still believe he will be the face of the franchise for years to come but passes like that and the one gift wrapped to Keuchly make me nauseous. Not to mention the horrid to non existent pass rush coupled with our mediocre secondary and horrible defensive play calling. It is all just a recipe for disaster.
The young players will get better at executing the plays. But something like that (we call that development) takes a little time.
We can moan all we want about the offensive line, for example…but if by next year they are the best offensive line in the NFL, then we’ll look back at this year and say “they just needed that time to develop.”
We can moan about our 23 year old quarterback not being mature enough, but again, we call that development. Same with our young WRs and TEs.
And one defense it is no different, they just got a later start than the offense (for the most part). David and McCoy are great players, but McCoy is aging out. David is okay, but its looking like Beckwith might end up being better once he develops.
Development.
And that takes patience. We’re closer than you people think. But if you change up coaches now, things will turn ugly again…just like the last three coaching changes.
Quality success takes time to build, and we are almost there.
So what if we have one more bad season before things get really good? In a year, we could look back and say it was worth it because it netted us the best DE in the draft.
Or maybe this team will turn things around long before then.
The play calling has been terrible and players flat ever since the after the bears game. Think they got too lax, and now they got themselves in a hole they can’t dig themselves out of
-we’ve only beaten the bears and giants…
-the team has come out flat multiple times…
-blown out multiple times…
-HC has quit on this team(ARZ)…
-DC forcing a scheme that doesn’t work…
-players frustrated….
-lost 4 in a row….
As the downward spiral continues…The confidence levels shout, Mayday, Mayday.
If you guys even think for one minute the Saints are gonna just lie down……
I agree with all that you just posted! As they say Rome wasn’t built in a day.
DK and Licht did not inherit an SB roster. And so how long does it take to turn around a disaster? More than two years that’s for sure.
And remember 90% of our optimism is based on the newest additions not in the old vets. They need time to grow.
And again…we lack depth so injuries have hurt…starting with #3!!! He’s clearly not healthy…a QB with a bad throwing arm…not good. Our star MLB missed the first part of the season completely…LVD has missed games…Brent Grimes has missed games…Doug missed games…there’s been enough to deal with.
StPeteBucsFan is right!!!!! And it is not that far off!!!!! NFL GM Licht has brought a core and major hope to this team!!!! Just 2 years ago, we knew the the Bucs and lovie were going to finish last in the division!!!!! And just this offseason some had the “Playoffs or bust” attitude!!!!!! And that is not because GM Licht is bad and the Coaches all of a sudden are bad coaches!!!!!!! The Roster was garabage years ago and now there is actually depth in certain positions!!!!!!
Continue to grow this team and we will reap the benefits of good football!!!!!! GM keep adding talent!!!! Coaches with schemes that work, will start to show!!!!!!
Its a process and the Bucs are working thru it!!!!!!! It is no time to scrap it half way thru a season!!!!!!!

Licht has been active in free agency, but his signings haven’t always panned out, and his performance in the draft has been slightly above average. Given the capital Licht’s had to work with (plenty of cap space and high draft picks) you would have expected the Bucs to be further along by this point.

For once I completely agree with pretty much every thing you said Bonzai.
Have voted ‘very confident” every week thus far and not gonna change that now.
In a couple or few weeks when the team is back to playing good ball and winning games – all the reactionary fans will swing the other way again and coach’s ‘confidence rating’ will go right back up.
Someone will probably have a change of scenery next year unless the Bucs go on a tear and manage 8 or more wins in 2017. Missing the playoffs automatically makes this a “disappointing season”. Be it players, front office or coaches someone will “pay” for the frustration. But I seriously doubt HC Dirk Koetter will be among those asked to move along short of a disastrous end to this season with no progress achieved.
This is how I look at it. If part of the reason Koetter was promoted was to develop Jameis amd Jameis, now in year 3, is yet to take that “next step” and is still making the same bad decisons he always has then that is a problem.
I hear you….their more “dirk” fans than BUC fans….they were so sure dirk was the man for the job and now “the chosen 1″ is underachieving….they’re dying for a win just so they can say,” I told you he would turn it around”…..
the funniest part is when all the “dirk” fans claim he deserves another year or should get another year because of this and that…..with all this talent we’re 2-5….they scream lack of talent…LOL…damn…everybody cant be a first overall pick!!!….GO BUCS!!!!
I went with confident. The Bucs have the eighth ranked offense in terms of yards but we fail to convert those yards into points (18th). I think much of that is tied to our in ability to run the ball which we are one of the worst at (29th).
Defensively we are just all around bad this season. I still think the greatest mistake we made was when we didn’t trade McCoy and David prior to landing Winston. We should have gone into full rebuild mode and grabbed picks for them.
