Jameis Should Sit, Maybe For Season

November 5th, 2017

There is one major factor here that is far more important than any win(s) now that the 2017 season is toast.

Until America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is fully 100 percent healthy, he should not take another snap the rest of the season.

Joe hates to break it to the haters, but the Bucs are not drafting Baker Mayfield next spring (yes, a guy on Twitter actually suggested that to Joe), nor Sam Darnold nor any other decent college quarterback. Jameis is the Bucs quarterback of 2017 and beyond, likely for many years to come.

Given that information, for Jameis to lead the Bucs to the promised land, he can’t do this with a wrecked shoulder. Joe saw how Jameis flinched before phantom hits — after real hits — just before halftime, and saw how he was dragging his right arm. There was no question he was in pain the way he grimaced after throws.

Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter says time and again Jameis’ shoulder is structurally fine, and it may be. But given how the Colts dreadfully mismanaged Andrew Luck’s bum shoulder, and who knows if he will ever return to his previous self, it is understandable for Bucs fans to be paranoid about Jameis’ shoulder.

And they should. It’s not like we are talking a backup right tackle here. It’s the future of the franchise, the player the team is building around.

Jameis should not take another snap this year unless he is totally pain-free and his injury (injuries?) are healed. This team is in bad enough shape as it is. If Jameis has his shoulder wrecked, this franchise is in a world of hurt. Like Browns bad.

There simply is no compelling nor positive reason for Jameis to take another snap the rest of the season, unless he has a full and totally injury-free medical examination.

He should’ve been sat since Buffalo. NO REASON FOR HIM TO BE OUT THERE

  2. bucster Says:

Jaboo = the second coming of JFro.

  3. Waterboy Says:

I’ve been saying that for several weeks. He definitely shouldn’t have been back out there after the loss last week.

  4. Zachary Stone Says:

He should sit bc of an AC joint SPRAIN!?!?! Let him get to 100%, no reason you can put him on IR and expect him to develop on the bench and in the offseason. If he goes on IR, he moves on step closer to the bust I called him to be.

  5. Season Is Over Says:

Mr. Magoo didn’t come in to from the sideline taunt someone. He was simply pointing at the scoreboard but coudln’t see him because he forgot his glasses.

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

Strange how Joe says nothing about D. Smith!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Zachary Stone Says:

All the JABO is god FSU people are calling for him to sit, which is amusing to me…..

  8. lurker Says:

why would they not take a qb?

jameis will be in year 4 next year and there are many young qb’s succeeding where jameis isn’t.

  9. Dr lob Says:

    Winston sucks draft a QB

  10. DB55 Says:

Gruden with jimbo fisher as OC will do the trick. Or fk Gruden and bring up jimbo.

  11. Not there yet Says:

Nope if he’s healthy he needs to play. No more players hiding behind the injury front. Time to see how stays and who goes. We know most of them already but I want him to be healthy so the Glazer’s can see Dirk is doing nothing to develop this guy, how can he if he’s running the entire team. Giving up play calling duties to focus more on this team is the only way to save this coaching staff. Licht won’t get resigned so a new GM will likely fire him anyway

  12. EA Says:

Word around the team was that he was sharp in pregame warm ups

  13. Buddy Says:

Hey Joe how’s “winning” Coach Dirk Koetter looking now? Big Stick carriers?? Where’s Justin Pawlousky now?? LOLOLOLOLOL

    hahahahahaaa I needed a laugh

  15. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

We don’t know how much the shoulder injury is effecting Jamies performance, give him the benefit of the doubt. Koetter is terrible at clock management. Sick of seeing us make embarrassing mistakes.

  16. GramaicasLuckyCoins Says:

i question how much losing teams like this team actually care about winning or is it just a pay check they ALL talk a great game but when it comes down to it never show up They claim they all care but no one shows it. i question there desire to change things. If the team would be honest and say we’re do care about the money because it keeps me in fancy robes and expensive cars. I would at least respect that instead of this crappy showing and embarrassing themselves.

  17. DB55 Says:

All I know is Fitz looked like a seasoned vet. Where’s the sarcasm font?

  18. unbelievable Says:

He re-injured his shoulder today for sure.

Looked like he was fighting back tears. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was done for the season.

  19. Matts17 Says:

He’s not a franchise QB. Please stop referring to him as such.

  20. passthebuc Says:

How about sitting forever. Jameis aka Molasses Man is too slow to cut it in this league. You can rah, rah all you want, but in the end, you need to win.

  21. Howard Cosell Says:

    No choice. Season is over.
    Schedule Winstons surgery for Monday.
    Tank for draft pick again.

  22. LocalJoker Says:

Sit’m and let him get well for what? So LT Donovan Smith can get him killed again? Need better players- everywhere!

  23. passthebuc Says:

We are back to my main gripe. this team has no passion. No anger. They are good at one thing, take the money and run.

  24. ClodHopper Says:

The reason to even play him now is to get that coveted record of tds before 24. Ain’t a big enough reason. Sit him. Not worth it

  25. bucster Says:

I think he ate too many pre-game W’s – WTF that was!

  26. Buc believer Says:

Joe has absolutely NO credibility anymore with his constant referring to Koetter as a winning head coach. Whether it is to piss people off or just trying to be funny now Joe is not a time to joke. Our Bucs suck and it’s YOUR job to tell us why. Stop trying to be funny and stick to the facts.

  27. JerseyBuc Says:

This guy is not taking us anywhere good, injured or healthy…lets not end up in a position where we have to pay this guy 100 million + to be a mediocre quarterback, because then there is really no point in watching this team or visiting this site…that’s honestly my greatest fear, let’s cut our losses and move on with a new regime… bring in a coach and GM who aren’t married to Jamies

  28. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Joe,

There you go again with the “Winning” coach Dirk Koetter…….are you trying to rub your readers noses in $hit?

Do you seriously think he still deserves that moniker?

    If you do…..then explain please!!!

  29. AlteredEgo Says:

@BF 7423 “We don’t know how much the shoulder injury is effecting Jamies performance, give him the benefit of the doubt. ”
Jameis in predraft discussion his in accuracy was brought up in college…OK this is the pros….inaccuracy is still a problem…..I saw this season Brady, Manning, and Brees throw…….yeah all 3 HOF….but that is the standard…

  30. Jck Says:

Hey Jameis… go play basketball with your girlfriend on hard knocks because you aren’t a pro QB… she would be much better than you, go buy another dog and quit.

  31. Joseph Mamma Says:

The future of the franchise is not accurate. Never really has been, and mostly likely never will be. What did Bill Walsh say, you know what you pretty much have in a QB after about 18 NFL games. He won’t be improving much.

  32. Rob Says:

“Jameis is the Bucs quarterback of 2017 and beyond, likely for many years to come.” God help us…

  33. denjoe Says:

I think they should sit half the team!

  34. nate_tweetz Says:

Sit Jameis on IR. Season is over. Tank for the draft… Hurts to type it, but it is what needs to happen.

  35. JB Says:

The Bucs need a real quarterback! NOT an over paid cheerleader! I was so embarrassed for him watching while he was screaming about eating W’s during the pregame. Did anyone else notice several players basically rolling their eyes. He’s no leader, and he’s definitely NOT a professional quarterback. Not a great one anyway! This America’s quarterback crap needs to be $hitcanned!

  36. JonBuc Says:

Sit Winston, Sh#tcan Koetter, Smith and turn LichtsOut.

  37. Tampabaybucfan Says:

And….while you are at it….you can cease with “America’s QB” until he earns that…..

I like Jameis and support his healing and agree that we will stick with him like we did Vinny…..remember Vinnie?

He played for “Winning” coaches…..Ray Perkins, Richard Williamson & Sam Wyche……

  38. firethecannons Says:

Yes Joe is completely right–sit Jameis for rest of season–we are shet with or without him. Jameis needs an MRI of the shoulder and a thorough mental health evaluation. Pre game hype is weird, and he need to wear the seat belt while he sits on the bench.

  39. Ryan K Says:

    America’s Quarterback
    America’s Quarterback
    America’s Quarterback
    America’s Quarterback
…according to Joe is Jameis Winston…

    Ha !

even the Bucs media is awful..

Hey, Joe, AMERICA DOESN’T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT JAMEIS ! LOL

  40. Season Is Over Says:

America’s Present Laughingstock, Captain of Immaturity, Only Seen in Local Markets, Backed into Pro Bowler Because Three Others Backed Out, Benched for Ineptness, Mr. Magoo aka Jameis Winston should be suspended.

  41. dmatt Says:

Mike Evans is a mediocre wr…first hit n he’s down never fight for extra yardage such as playmakers wr Antonio Brown, Golden Tate,Randall Cobb, Julian Eldelman,n others I didn’t mention. Evans does nothing but wind n take cheap shot on player from behind. I like my Bucs but Jameis was wrong n so was Evans they were both mad cause the saints got beast mode on us offensively n defensively. Donovan Smith is garbage n soft, he’s the reason Jameis has a shoulder injury he’s gonna contribute to Jameis career ending prematurely. Our defense is super soft!!! My 10 yr old football team tackled better than the Bucs. Koetter again got out coached… he was in a daze as Sean Peyton ran circles around him with his aggressive play calling. Koetters tail was between his legs
by halftime. I’m tired of hearing loss after loss…if,if,if,if. Personally, if a frog had a glass butt every time he jumps it’ll break.

  42. Wombat Says:

Embarrassing, not fun to be a fan of this crap. I don’t feel like forking out money for season tickets anymore. Just done with players who don’t care.

  43. Ed Says:

Well,What the devil kind of game planning we saw today. They are setting quarterbacks up for in juries, with receivers running long past routes. This curse will be removed when these two backstabbers, the G.M and coach Koetter are fired. This locker room was lost after the New England Game. The players wanted to run a set of plays that they felt would have worked instead he wanted to kick a field goal.

  44. denjoe Says:

Fitz is too old lets see Griffen!

  45. B Coburn Says:

Don’t draft ine too high, but maybe a mid rounder if right guy is there. We need a capable backup at the very least. In a league where qb is so important, even if I had an established elite qb I would still take a flyer on a mid to late rounder every 2 or 3 years. Never know when a guy is done. Doesn’t hurt to have a capable backup and if he outperforms or you think you may lose him can get a kings ransom for the man out

  46. JimmyJack Says:

It’s my belief(hope) that Dirk was told to sit Winston at halftime. I know if It was my money(franchise) on the line it’s what I would have done.

These players don’t care anymore and that’s a scary thing. A great coach once said that if you don’t have your head in the game somebody’s going to get seriously hurt. I don’t appreciate seeing players being carted off on stretchers.

  47. Joeypoppems Says:

Sit Winston until healthy. Start Ryan Griffin when he is healthy. See if he can be a long term back up because Fitz isnt.

  48. lambchop Says:

Can we talk about the lack of maturity with Jameis instead of his shoulder? I would have given him the benefit of the doubt, but now I think we’re toast with the biggest blunder drafting him in the first place. I don’t blame anyone for picking him, but that doesn’t change the fact that it may end up being a huge fail. He is no where near being a franchise QB. When the chips are down and he’s losing, his true nature comes out. That one snippet of his personality tells me a lot about what kind of player he’s going to be down the line.

He’s gonna be here for at least another 1-2 years but no guarantees after that cuz if the management and coaches change and he consistently under performs (he sucked pre-injury), there’s not going to be a more itchy trigger finger than someone who didn’t draft him in the first place.

  49. StPeteBucsFan Says:

jameis will be in year 4 next year and there are many young qb’s succeeding where jameis isn’t.

    Lurker

Can you name a QB who has thrown for more yardage in his first two seasons?
Why no you can’t including the current crop of “succeeding” QB’s. In fact nobody in the history of the NFL has thrown for more yards their first two years…so yeah he must be chump change.

  50. Rojas Says:

At this point I wouldn’t mind drafting

    DE Bradley Chubb
    RB Shaqoun Barkley
    LT Connor Williams

  51. JimmyJack Says:

We lost that game when #59 botched two simple assignments back to back leading to the first TD……I guess Dirks pep talk didn’t reach the back of the locker room.

  52. Matts17 Says:

Didn’t watch a minute of this garbage team but just saw the lowlights of JW’s unintelligible pre game speech and instigating the fight. The guy is a clown and if he still here in 2 years this franchise gets exactly what it deserves.

Koetter has officially lost control of this team. Fire him immediately.

  53. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    I havn’t given up on Koetter….only because I don’t like churning coaches so soon…

And, I certainly haven’t given up on Jameis…

But, I might give up on Joe if the “Winning” Dirk Koetter continues….

  54. Chris Says:

Yeah DB, with no practice time, he led us to our only td, something your dude and all his weapons couldn’t do in the last 7 quarters. But you’ll blame the coach, etc for his inaccuracy, its ok, I’m a U fan, had to realize one day that Vinny wasn’t a franchis qb, he had vision problems, just like your guy Jaboo. Maybe, two, three coaches and 5 years from now, you’ll come to that realization than again, mayb not. After all, you think Jombo could come off his weekly being blown out by the Boston Colleges of the world and can fix this mess.

  55. JimmyJack Says:

There are so many issues with this team and each game they keep growing……..Who the f**k is in charge of this thing anyway?

I’ve seen problem areas get fixed before if the NFL. What is the exact f***ing reason this team can’t fix them?

  56. StAugBuc Says:

Respect you much, St.Pete, but when did yardage = success?

  57. playerunknown Says:

What kind of meds is Jameis on. He was not his same self today.

  58. JimmyJack Says:

Dirk Koetter looks like he saw a ghost……Come on dude, the Glazers aren’t that scary

  59. Pelbuc Says:

JBF, maybe one day this sorry franchise will realize it cannot build a team around an immature punk with accuracy and decision making issues.

  60. AlteredEgo Says:

I’d draft QB’s with our pick two picks in 2018……

  61. Ryan K Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

    typical Joebucsfan zombie Winston lover.

Can you ever list off something other than passing yard statistics lol.

    How about wins?
    How about accuracy?
    How about progression reads?
    How about maturity?

  62. zwak Says:

    This kid needs therapy ASAP!

  63. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Since the game and consequently the season was over early I paid careful attention to Brees/#3 and their receivers.

Time and again Brees had targets that actually got separation…our guys really struggle getting open which then forces #3 to thread a needle.

That’s one difference…the other…Brees looked like a statue back there because nobody got within the same freaking zip code…he had as long as he wanted to throw the ball. #3…not really…lots of scrambling…sacks…just not the same.

And so would we like to see how #3 performed if his OL gave him that much time? How about if his WR’s finally got some separation. As for the long bombs and lack of accuracy you guys did see Brees miss wide open deep balls right?

  64. lambchop Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

Throwing for garbage yards in the 2nd half when you’re down by a mile and the defense is in zone to stop scores doesn’t count for anything. It’s vanity stats. Let me say that again, VANITY STATS. Like they said on air, Sean Peyton only looks at one stat at the end of the game, Yards per Carry, cuz if you’re winning you’re running and probably running successfully.

  65. B Coburn Says:

Who cares how many yards he throwas for. He never scores points. I was skeptical of the pick and he may very well be successful, he’s shown talent… but all the people saying he’s a winner and all he do es is win, despite the ints in college, are looking kind of foolish atm. He’s looking like a loser…. yeah its a team game, which is what many said about his college career

  66. Bird Says:

He ate to many w’s in pregame.

    That’s funny.

They must have given him that healing
Spray at halftime that you see in international soccer games.

He looked pretty normal to me. He pulled himself out just like last game. Even announcers confirmed he could come back into game if need be just like last game Pretty sure koetter will confirm same thing.

He won’t go down with the ship when things are bad Players don’t like that. I think he is starting to lose some followers already. (Receivers look pretty frustrated with him)

  67. Bobby M. Says:

Bucs are running with Winston….he’s a middle of the pack starting caliber QB but the entire team has to be rebuilt. We HAVE to get the following….exceptional o-line….3 down back and a solid d-line.

Now this has been my point from the beginning…..if you need all that, you dont have a franchise QB….you have a glorified game manager and we used THE #1 pick on a guy that needs A LOT of help just to be effective. Not exceptional….simply effective. We’ve used A LOT of resources trying to accommodate his “development”…..its been a colossal waste. Thats ALL LICHT….not Koetter or Smith. Theyll probably go down with him, but Licht boldly went all in on Winston and it backfired.

  68. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Ryan

#3 threw for better than 70% in practice and preseason. His so called “lack of accuracy” is in your imagination not reality. He’s not tearing it up but he was at 61% …20th in the league…less that .1% behind 19 Mariota…basically in the center of all NFL QB’s not the bottom dweller that you haters make him out to be.

The wins and losses can hardly be placed on any single player even the QB.

Let me guess Ryan…you were probably in that crowd that ran off Doug Williams…Steve Young…Trent Dilfer….Testeverde…and after you ran them off three of them won SB’s and Testeverde played 20 years and reached the AFC Championship.

But yeah let’s run off yet another franchise QB because we…the entire team..are struggling this year! Makes perfect sense,

  69. JimmyJack Says:

Who even cares about our QB right now……..I don’t care who your QB is #58 was flat footed all game…..#91 missed his assignment today…..so did 28……..43 missed his a few games back…..36 missed his……We can’t run the ball.

Receivers are losing their heads and the drops are now becoming more frequent…….Our offensive line gets worse and worse weekly and the pentalties get more and more……..It took us 4 seasons to be able to kick field goals…………..Th QB? What the f**k is any QB going to do about all the other problems?? The QB is the least of our worries right now……..If you don’t have a team that plays football at a pro level no QB alive will win in this league.

This whole team is toast and the proper decision was made at halftime. This team needs to play pro football before we get our top QB hurt.

As soon as this team plays a real football game I’ll start putting Winston(who has sucked) at the helm of the blame. I don’t know whose job it is to prepare this team but they are not doing it.

  70. Youngbucs Says:

lol joe wants competition everywhere but qb

  71. Ryan K Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

“#3 threw for better than 70% in practice and preseason.”

    God help us.

  72. Viejo_Sombrero19 Says:

Please can someone respond as Devils advocate WHY NOT DRAFT QB if a “FRANCHISE” guy is there at top 3 pick? Ummmm Carson Wentz, Etc etc like wtf how the hell that makes sense, so if your right that Winston will one day be “Americas Quaterbaaack” (throw up) then you trade the QB that you took for another top 5 pick the next yr. Come on I dare someone to write an article saying not to draft a QB come draft day with Bucs in top 3 picks and a Elite stud QB on the board. So if your marriage SUCKS at 3 yrs in and you meet the girl of your dreams who is way hotter your gonna just be like NAAAH. Gtfoh

  73. JimmyJack Says:

Winston is done for the year guys…….I could be wrong, but it looks certain with this team.

You may as well just forget about Winston because it will be an unsettled argument until this franchise is able to get somebody that can get this team playing at a pro level.

  74. B Coburn Says:

Anyone else think since Monken s role was expanded the receivers hands haven’t been as good and play in general has dropped off?

  75. B Coburn Says:

Kind of a bad analogy. Marriage can definitely be rough, but no… generally that’s not reason to just look for an “upgrade”… lol… funny though. Just remember for every “dream girl” there is often another guy tired of her crap. .. grass I’d always greener..

  76. Bucs14 Says:

Anyone else think somewhere Lovie is laughing his ass off about Koetter’s situation?

  77. Mo_Downs Says:

Dear Tampa Bay FO and Owners,

You could be heroes and save the season by hiring Colin Kaepernick.

Clearly Fitzpatrick will get people hurt rather than extending plays and hitting open targets. KAP can extend plays and turn the Bucs into a TRIPLE-THREAT offense.

Right now, for racist political reasons, the league owners have banned a player who could save your season. So, get busy and hire KAP. He could be ready in a couple of weeks, if you act NOW.

The alternative is losing more and more and demoralizing the fan base further.

Lastly, racist fans should look forward to a savior rather than waste season tickets on a horrible product.

As Spike Lee would say: DO THE RIGHT THING..!!

    SAVE the SEASON.

As Stan Lee would say: Truth, Justice and the AMERICAN WAY.

AS Robert E. Lee would say: Don’t EVER hire a troublemaking slave.

    So, what’s your choice…???

    Winners or Losers..??

  78. RustyRhinos Says:

    StPeteBucsFan,
A QB can throw for 6000 yards and 75 TD and if the team is not winning who cares. I am a Buccaneer fan first, Jamis Winston is a player on my favorite team he is not the whole team. Mr. Winston has yet to win a ton here, will it happen? I do not know. He will be in year 4 next season, have we seen him improve this season, in his accuracy, ball placement, not staring down receivers. It is one thing to stare down a WR if you are not going to throw him the ball, but if you do your two eyes just brought 6 eyes closer to who you were looking at there is another man open. Why is it that the JBFan posters almost all say that we do not need a captain check down QB? If the check downs are open and move the chains who cares?

  79. Mike Johnson Says:

Nahhh, go ahead and play him Koetter. Play him until that GD shoulder falls off!!
Any reputable organization with sound mngt would have rested Jameis 2 games ago for 2 or 3 games. But not the Bucs. Dog him out. Earn that money!! Did you not think opposing Defenses were not going to concentrat on his shoulder/ Nooo why they will have mercy. This is the NFl..not Fl State. Jamesi has got a long long ways to go. Shut him down and have surgery now. So he can be ready for next season. Do you really think we are going to win the next 8 games? Yes you do..You idiots!! Hope is a terrible thing (shawshank redemp).

  80. Clw JB Says:

We are being out-coached every week on both sides of the ball – penalties, mistakes – lack of aggression- the HC has no fire, no anger and it shows in his team- Sam Eyche clone/ sarcasm doesn’t motivate anyone Dirky…

  81. USFBUC Says:

What I don’t understand is if most of the reasonable posters here can see the same things in this team why can’t the coaches and GM?

  82. Jason Says:

The Winston supporters are waning in the comments now. The look on D Jax face after Winston’s pregame says it all… WTF?

  83. The Anomaly Says:

Someone check the stats. WHen Fitz is signed as a backup doesn’t the starting QB get injured a LOT?

    Anyone?

  84. 813bucboi Says:

Dirk is going to turn Winston into the next Andrew luck….his man is incompetent….fire him now!!!….GO BUCS!!!

  85. Shane Says:

At least until he gets better. You can see he’s been hurt he’s not playing like himself at all. He needs to get well.

  86. Shane Says:

Season is over. At least let the guy get well.

  87. NCBucsfan15 Says:

Jameis needs to sit. Either to protect our investment in him for next season or just to trade him away. Either is fine with me. His record and stats are not much better then Freeman’s at this point in his career. I get it he is 100x the leader then Freeman ever was but I don’t care, Ws are all that matter and their record is pretty much the same. Who cares if he has more passing yards then any QB in 2 yrs does anyone ever has. Last I checked this is a passing league now and he isn’t cutting it. He is in his 3rd yr of the same offense no excuses he has ran out of excuses.

  88. Bucsace Says:

I hope we trade Jameis…….and if fails or succeeds somewhere else, I couldn’t care less……over it

  89. Mord Says:

The worst thing about this moment in Bucs history is that it didn’t come a little bit later. Not because this team could have done something great with more time, but because most reasonable people will not yet accept that enough time has passed to say Jameis simply won’t develop as a Buc into the the player we’ve all been imagining (or hoping for). I’m torn on the subject.

Some of his remarkable stats can be attributed to success under game and situational duress. On the upside, in those situations, he’s shown he’s exceptional when planned plays break down; a natural improviser. However, the QBs he wants (needs) to emulate get rid of the ball quickly, fulfilling scripted plays with more efficiency and consistency than we’ve seen from him. Coaching bears blame here, of course, yet, even at his best, Jameis has proven he cannot command the deep ball, and struggles with accuracy. This limits the effectiveness of the rest of the offensive game-plan as much as a lack of running game does.

One of his great strengths, his leadership personality, is something that serves a need and fills an obvious void on this team. Unfortunately, I also think it has been relied on too heavily, too soon. For as much as his supporters have urged patience, citing “QBs take time to develop”, the embrace of Jameis’ nearly precocious leadership behavior has overlooked its cart-before-the-horse dynamic. It would seem reasonable to think that some of his teammates tune him out, especially when he’s still developing in his on-field play, sometimes playing more poorly than they are.

He does show flashes of greatness, but with more time, the Bucs may have seen enough of his limitations that an injury like this one would cause them to unequivocally shut him down for the season, and look to draft a QB, setting up an potential or eventual Brees-Rivers type transition. But now, even if Jameis is done for the year, the Bucs will solely be looking for DE/RB with their high picks, still holding out a perfectly reasonable hope that they already have a ‘franchise QB’ in Jameis.

This cycle could take years to play out.

I hope I’m wrong. I like Jameis, would love to see him succeed here, and think it could still happen. But … somehow I can’t help feeling he won’t rise to the greatness we’re projecting on him until he’s starting for his next NFL team… and that the Bucs will suffer a frustrating mediocrity in a state of ‘high-potential’ limbo until then.

He could sit for the entire season but that won’t make him better for next season. I’ve seen enough of his play and I don’t think he can read NFL defenses instantaneously like the great QB’s. He struggles finding the hot receiver and has a tendency to lock in on his first target. He just not good enough to call audibles and I really don’t think Koetter feels the same way. Just my opinion but QB’s who are slow to decipher defensive stunts and nuances on the fly struggle terribly.

My first time posting to a site……as much as it pains me, Jameis should sit for the rest of the season and he should not be allowed to give anymore pregame speeches. It’s. Not. Working….and I’m a huge Jameis fan. Travel from Maryland to Tampa for the home games, but not anymore…..not until this team proves that they belong on the football field. Doesn’t matter if they win or lose. If they simply show up, they’ll have a 50/50 chance of winning games.

    Until next season…..

    Agreed, Joe.

The haters need to lay off Winston a bit. He’s clearly hurt and has lost all sense of timing with the lack of practice reps.

Only a complete idiot can’t see that Winston is struggling with the injury.

  93. Ed Says:

My analogy has been that Jameis is a thrower not a pitcher. I just dont see enough quickness in his throwing motion and his passes sail very high. To have a good offense you have to give the playmakers the opportunity to get the ball in space where they can run with it. JW doesnt do that. His lack of patience is not helping. Clearly the staff hasnt coached any improvement in him.

As fans we have to wonder if its time to cut our losses and move on. This has happened before, Sam Bradford couldnt get it done Mark Sanchez didnt cut it. Alex Smith flames with the 49ers. f the Bucs can get Winston healthy he has good trade value due to age and there will be some other teams that may not resign their QBs and if Buca can get an accurate passer next season along with some better coaching the team could be reworked + an experienced GM or talent evaluator getting a top 3 draft pick.

I love Winstons passion and guts but wins are more important

  94. Bucsmon Says:

He may have thrown for a lot of yards, but mostly “Garbage Time” yards and look at his QB Rating, below 90 and ranked #18. That is the same level as he was his 1st 2 years. Hardly qualifies as a ‘Franchise QB’.

It’s easy to get a lot of yards when you throw 45 times a game which is not a recipe for success week in & week out.

  95. PRBucFan Says:

Funny to me I said they would start him he would play badly and then we would hear all about his injury being the cause for his bad play AGAIN. If it was that bad he would of been benched along time ago.

Time to start planning ahead for another answer at QB for our future.
