“He Does Some Rookie Crap”
November 26th, 2017It’s been 21 years since Ian Beckles manned the right guard position for your Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he’s still dialed in to everything happening on that offensive line.
Beckles may be off traditional local sports radio, but he’s still watching film and studying his Bucs for 102.5 FM and his In The Trenches podcast at RadioInfluence.com.
Joe has written previously that Beckles is in disbelief by what he sees from Donovan Smith. And that continued last Sunday at Miami. It’s a bad look, Beckles says.
“Donovan Smith, if I would tell you he’s a rookie, and you’d watch his film, you’d say, ‘Yeah, that makes sense.’ He does some rookie crap. Sometimes his footwork, I don’t even know where it comes from. I have no idea,” Beckles said.
“He puts himself in some really bad situations sometimes. And you know what they result in? Holding penalties. I mean, if your footwork is jacked up, and your hands are jacked up, that’s when you’re going to have holding penalties and lots of them.”
Joe remains confident Smith will snap out of his recent funk. Heck, even Smith says he and his mates are oh so close.
Today would be a very good time.

Joe…..DS maybe a lost cause now
Or is the bucs coaching again?
I know one thing for sure….his play at LT is hurting this team big time

No doubt Beckles knows what he is talking about. So doesn’t DSmith get coached up? The coaching is not working. Even people like me can see it–Jameis getting strip sacked in the red zone at the Bills–so many shoulder dives in the turf for Jameis. Honestly what gives here? Dude needs to be a backup next year then cut him when time to sign a new contract–this dude is a disaster on Jameis blind side.

As far as I’m concerned, tackle should be a priority this draft, second only to pass rushers

Build up the lines, build a winner…

Smith should be kicked inside to guard

Well, Ian is the original #93 truth teller. No shock he’s willing to call a spade a spade here. 100% truth.
And here’s a little data to back up the take…
http://www.nflpenalties.com/player/d-smith-tampa-bay-buccaneers?year=2017
After committing a league high 13 penalties in 2016, D.Smith played flag free football weeks 1-5 this year. Very impressive.
Less impressive is the fact that he’s currently 2nd in the NFL in penalties — again this year.
Read that again.
That’s because in the last 6 weeks, he’s had 5 holding calls, 2 illegal use of hands, 2 false starts, and one injured franchise QB.
If that’s your LT, you’re looking for a LT.

The knock on Smith coming out was his inconsistencies. Has to many lapses, and takes to many plays off. If that hasn’t changed by now, and hasn’t been coached out of him,it never will. Maybe he has a shot at guard, but when a L.T. makes those mistakes your Q.B. gets his shoulder crushed, or a big play gets called back for holding. Wonder if Licht still thinks he’s going to become one of the best L.T.’s in the game? Only in the meatheads, head!

Ian Beckles like to be charmed and talk about his days in the league…but he wasn’t actually any good. And frankly, after listening to his rants about race for years, I don’t respect a thing he says.

Why is Warhop still here?
November 26th, 2017 at 9:00 am
I recall years ago reading that the opinion of George Warhop was really poor.
Perhaps he is uniquely responsible for the sieve at LT and the poor run blocking performance. It’s easier to replace a coach than draft an entire line.

Warhop a good OL coach? He was so good coaching OL for the Niners that he was
fired mid-season!

i think this guy has proven over the 3 years he’s been here he isn’t a franchise LT if we want to be really successful we need to get a elite blindside protector . let d smith and dotson fight for starting RT next year

Donavan Smith is the most frustrating player we have.
I think Hodad nailed it. Smith has just been horribly inconsistent!!! If a player can execute half the time it means he has the skill set and talent…when he blows it the other half the questions explode. Is he lazy? Unfocused? Mentally weak?
I do not know…I just know this ENTIRE team needs to stop putting some really embarrassing video in the vault. How do you go from pancake blocks to letting dudes just run around you as if you’re not even there?

Joe you remain confident!? Sure buddy, and Doug Martin is an excellent running back, Jameis can throw accurately, Hargreaves is a shutdown corner, Dirk is an innovative aggressive play caller, Mike Smith is a defensive mastermind, and Santa Clause is real, whatever helps sleep at night

Buckles was a dam good nfl guard that played every down , Hard !!!
Had he been 6 4” 320 he would have been in all pro year in and year out !!

This entire team does ROOKIE CRAP.
