Chris Godwin Earns More Targets

November 19th, 2017

Clutch.

It’s time Chris Godwin should get on the field more.

The rookie wide receiver, who got a game ball last week in his first start for being the offensive player of the game with five catches, came up smelling like roses again today.

In the game-winning drive, Godwin had a 14- and a 24-yard catches against the Dolphins to help the Bucs set up for a Pat Murray field goal to snap the road losing streak at six games.

Those were the only two balls thrown Godwin’s way all day, Talk about clutch. He now has 15 catches this season.

Joe has always been a fan of Godwin (long before he was drafted) and Joe’s glad as can be the Bucs drafted him. But the way he has played the past two games, Joe doesn’t think it is outrageous to suggest Godwin has earned more playing time.

    Godwin looks good out there!

I’m just glad Mike Evans didn’t teach him to fall down after every catch.

  2. Bayers Says:

    Sit hump start Godwin please

  3. Warrenfb12 Says:

Might be time to bench Humphries for Godwin. Humphries hasn’t been playing well.

  4. Bayers Says:

    Godwin is the truth

  5. Bob in Valrico Says:

I think he is outplaying Hump ,but the only thing holding Godwin back is the reluctance to use him enough.

  6. feelthepewterpower Says:

Hump had a drop the last drive….ugh. Godwin is a God send!

  7. AlteredEgo Says:

Gosh …willikers…….the team won ..and Jameis didn’t…

  8. Tee in Dallas Says:

Yeah he should be playing over playing over Hump. Not a good year for #10 so far.

i don’t see why we don’t put jackson in the slot when we go threw wide.. easy upgrade over hump and godwin making plays on the outside . i’m just glad these guys continue to fight no matter what. i find it weird though that the whole 2nd half offense couldn’t do anything right but right when we need a score we move the ball with ease ? koetter needs to figure this out our he will have no choice but to give up play calling if he is somehow able to save his job

  10. Bird Says:

He needs to be in there more than humphries at this point

  11. Tee in Dallas Says:

    Typo*

I agree wit u 1000%. Evans doesn’t fight for yards…he’s a catch n go to the ground type guy. I dare he thinks he’s a top tier wr in the nfl. He talks trash but can’t consistently back it up. Godwin will fight for yards to make a play. Koetter again almost cost us the game with his conservative offense once we took the lead by two scores. Also someone need to get on Donovan Smith he reminds me of regular penalties committed by former Bucs Jeremy bonehead Trueblood. Our run game sucks so let’s just go all out with no huddle passing. Will someone please explain to me how our defense allow receivers to get so wide open. I saw confusion n I saw someone pancake Ayers.

  13. SteelStudBuc Says:

    Dmatt

I saw Ayers get pancakes twice. Both times the rb chipped on him effectively ending his weak pass rushing skills

  14. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Agree with guys who believe Godwin has now officially beat out Hump for that final WR spot. We need to have our best players on the field and Godwin is CLEARLY better than Hump.

  15. eric Says:

still not sure why our 3 best receivers are not on the field at the same time in just in case Joe is wondering that will be Evans, Jackson, and Godwin!! All Dirk talk about is the best players will play then why is Humphries still our number 3 he a nice guy a nice story rookie free agent all ways in the right place etc. but he is not one of the best 3 receivers on this team period!!

  16. eric Says:

    and just

Jackson hasn’t impressed me at all this season. He’s all hot air and big mouth. Godwin is going to be a star, but don’t bench Hump! Brate, Howard, ME13, Godwin, Hump, Sims (better receiver than RB), mebbe Jackson. That’s an all-star line up of receivers. Koetter has got to get his act together about this offense!! Quit throttling them. Let them loose!

  18. eric Says:

so @ orlbucfan you will take Hump over DJax lol you must listen to Steve Big Mouth Duemig!!

  19. Dano74 Says:

Godwin was clutch! He should start instead of Humphries

  20. firethecannons Says:

Honestly Hump has not had a stellar year , Koetter should put Godwin in for Hump. DJax not worth the investment.

  21. Roy T. Buford Says:

Good chance he rises to replace DJax next year. Godwin lacks top speed needed for a WR2 that needs beakaway speed, but he’s really good at route running. If he can crispen that up more he’ll be very good opposite ME13. I am not sure how good he’d be on the 50/50 balls common with Jameis…but he can’t be worse than DJax in going after them. He’s definitely a keeper.

  22. Roy T. Buford Says:

Agreed…he’s better than Hump, who’s earned is keep too. If Hump moves more to PR anyway, not a bad arrangement.

  23. firethecannons Says:

Koetter went “turtle” for the 2nd half with his play calling it was only the last drive that the offense was opened back up.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

Gotta play him more!!!… GO BUCS!!!!

  25. Swanee Says:

Something is seriously wrong with Coach K as far as evaluating talent. Godwin has the best hands on the team. Start him and play him. Wth would you not have Godwin in the mix. This is not a hard decision. Play him!

  26. IEric Says:

Lack top end speed Godwin ran a sub 4.4 at the combine that is great top end speed for any WR!!
