“We Tried To Get That Goddang Center To You On Every Freakin’ Play”

October 10th, 2017

Hallowed

Yes, Gerald McCoy may be having his best start to any season in his eight years as a Bucs defensive tackle.

It’s a rather easy call.

The consistency has been there, combined with the extreme talent.

The McCoy haters can quibble, but they’d be wrong.

Against the Patriots, the NFL Films folks had McCoy “mic’d up.” The video and audio is right here at Buccaneers.com.

There’s nothing too interesting in there from during the game. McCoy is seen poking fun at Mike Evans’ needless spin move after a catch deep in Patriots territory, among other nothing nuggets. However, Patriots playcaller Josh McDaniels is seen — and heard — embracing McCoy after the game.

“You’re a hell of a player, man. We tried to get that goddang center to you on every freakin’ play,” McDaniels said, as a clutched McCoy the way Joe cradles a bowl of piping hot Abe’s Place wings.

The video later shows Pats starting guard Joe Thuney earnestly telling McCoy he’s “a great player.”

Great stuff. McDaniels and Thuney were strikingly genuine. If McCoy stays healthy, he’s looking at a sixth consecutive Pro Bowl, and maybe a thinning of his herd of haters.

  1. Trauma Murse Says:

It is blatantly obvious he is a monster. Watch every snap, he explodes, and constantly has double teams or even a back in to help. Its mind boggling that the guys around him aren’t getting to the qb more. They should be getting there if nothing more than by freaking accident from the havoc he’s causing.

  2. D-Rome Says:

Both “Rock Star” and Jason Licht have failed to surround him with D-Line help. As such, both GM’s managed to waste GMC’s prime years.

  3. InJameisWeTrust Says:

Until ayers came alive vs NE, McCoy has been the Lone Ranger on that defensive line. Constantly getting penetration and causing disruption. Both our past GM’s have failed to surround him with anything. You can tell Gerald feels cheated out of a career next to a michael bennett. Gerald has had a great start. We need him to stay healthy

  4. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

How is that guy who said on here that he was gonna go back to being a Bears fan doing?

  5. Dirks Great Granpappy Says:

Our kickers will never be able to make kicks for our team if this cancer is still on it…ain’t that right tmax

  6. Bucsfan951 Says:

Gotta surround the franchise qb with talent before a d lineman. Help is on the way!

  7. Pick6 Says:

it’s a crime the other 3 guys can’t make more out of what GMC is doing out there. I don’t sit there and chart every snap, but just watching games it seems that despite the lack of sacks this might be the most disruptive 4 game stretch of Gerald’s career

  8. Brett Says:

I have stopped my DVR in years past to isolate on McCoy. I’m no expert, but you can see he is crazy disruptive and is almost always double teamed. How no one else around him can do anything given that fact is beyond me.

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s kind of hard to deny the guy’s skills when he shows week in and week out.
    Keep ballin’ GMC.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

Dirks Great Granpappy …lol Good one!

  11. Steven007 Says:

Dirk, hilarious post. I’m waiting to see the leader of the loser posters culture reply.

  12. Steven007 Says:

Dirk to Trollmax, “I have your balls right here sir…”

  13. Ryan K Says:

McCoy has been absolutely dominant this year. It is appalling the amount of wasted FA acquisitions/draft picks on the d-line throughout the years. I believe this team should start acquiring players who have the potential to be more versatile then our current personal. Gholston can only play the run consistently, not pass. Noah Spence reminds me of a slightly better version of what we had with Jacquies Smith. He is often injured (plays through), and if he doesn’t beat you off the edge with quickness, he will most likely not get to the QB ! Robert Ayers, playing in his ninth season, has yet to record a 10+ sack season. Ayers is now 32 years old. McCoy will be 30 next year, and has already had a history of injuries. Time is running out..

  14. celly Says:

    Lies, Joe.

People here keep saying that Offenses don’t have to gameplan for him.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let’s leave Tmax alone…..she is in labor giving birth to triplet ASJs……

  16. DB55 Says:

He actually tackled someone in the 4th qrt. A rb 5 yards downfield. SHOCKED AND AMAZED. Did someone piss him off? If so, I like it.

And let’s not forget to give props to McDonald too. He’s been playing great.

Ayers imo is the unsung hero of this line. He’s adding pressure, creating sacks and made a goal line stand that I haven’t seen this def make in years.

I think the missing link is Gholston, let Gholston Rush the passer he can’t possibly be any worse than Clarke, who the heck is Clarke anyway where did he come from?

  17. GhostofSchiano Says:

I just read a tweet from GMC’s number 1 fan “Tmaxcon”, he says the pro bowl is in the bag even if he does not play another down this year. WE LUV 93

  18. LakeLand Says:

GMC and the Bucs D-Line is similar to Wilt Chamberlain and the Philadelphia Warriors. GMC carry the load as Wilt did with the Warriors.

  19. Rrsrq Says:

He wasn’t mic’d up for the Nick Folk misses or at least sitting next to Swaggy or Robert Ayers

  20. Pickgrin Says:

McCoy will be 1st team All Pro this year if he maintains his level of play displayed through 4 games. Our DE depth is pitiful – but if Ayers, Spence and Gholson can stay healthy – we WILL find a pass rush this year as long as the tackles keep doing what they are doing.

  21. Lamarcus Says:

McCoy is overrated. McDonald > McCoy until the tape shows different.

×Breaking News× Every player from the best to worst are ” Great” players. Thats y there in the NFL.

  22. Maze Says:

Might as well cry about one of the best GM’s the Bucs have ever had. This fanbase is something else

  23. Lamarcus Says:

Gholston, ayers, McDonald are soooooo underrated. I like to see our run defense with out them

As a gmc hater…… gmc has been playing angry as of late but he far and away our problem I like to see more. Still give up on some plays but it’s encouraging like the rest of the team. I like to see this team take it to the next level. It’s like they are knocking on the door to being great.

  24. SB Says:

Haters are always gonna hate! It is in there genetic makeup. Usually there is a low IQ in there too and you can’t fix Stupid.

  25. RayJameisStadium Says:

I call it The Baker Effect!

Baker forces the o-line to be honest. An honest o-line is a play ground for McCoy.

    No Baker —- No Pressure.

Smitty ingeniously using the LBs….. who needs 10 sack DEs????

    Only JBF does!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  26. Kstoges Says:

It’s sad I like tmax but his hatred of gmac is utterly retarted on his part the guys is a complete beast and a class friggin act I’ll admit he comes off as soft sometimes but he don’t play soft I can tell you that much watch him before every snap no one is even close to the kinda pressure he generates and he’s at DT where it’s harder to get sacks he’s a beast

  27. Pick6 Says:

i am chuckling at some of the criticism: “he’s not that great! there’s this one DT who’s playing better than him right now – maybe two – so he sucks!”

  28. mike10 Says:

    One less McCoy hater year.

He’s been worlds-overrated IMO the past 7 years.

But this year, I see that dominance and quick first step. Someone’s starting to play like the heroes in his comic books.

  29. Lamarcus Says:

    Mike 10

I agree. He has NOT been what we needed in the past 7 years. I notice him a little different a meaner him and love it. He has been playing great. Idk if some of those other guys deserve credit but I believe they should. I think gholston is elite run defender and when he is out it shows. He is as important as gmc.

  30. No_Bucs_Given Says:

With what Mccoy brings and after all these years I’m going to assume we’re also using McCoy’s strengths wrong. Edge pressure has been non existent for his career. If the Pats were trying hard to get a center to him, we should be blitzing the A gap heavy. Bring the pressure right behind Mccoy. Stop with the same scheme expecting a diff result.

  31. Capt.Tim Says:

    Lol! ,
Lamarcus and friends- zombies!! Lord, I hope they dont let you guys drive!!

McCoy will be a first ballet hall of famer. Everyone in the country knows what a generational talet he is, except a few morons around here

No. We have absolutely NO pass rushing DEs. Glad Ayers did SOMETHING last game. Otherwise, he might as well have stayed in the locker room. Same for Spence. They are non-existent. I forgive them. Ayers is old, Spence is small

Gholsten is great against the Run. Nothing in the pass rush.
With the way McCoy blows up the middle( and has since his first day here- idiots), a good DE would rack up 10 sacks a season- just by turning the Corner.
Unfortunately- none of our DEs can turn the corner.

Baker has helped a bunch. He holds the Nose tackle spot. Big help. Our line was so lame, thry used to run brhind McCoy, when he penetrated? And our weak ass line couldnt even fill that gap!!
McDaniel is back to form. Thats hrlping the DT spot even more

  32. Capt.Tim Says:

-But until we get a credible DE- this team will NEVER BE ELITE.

Ryan Russell and Will Clark both have a lil burst.
They signed Pat O’Conner and Larry Webster Jr. To practice squad.

I like that approach. It takes DE several years to develop. Snagging 2-3 year players off other teams squad, gives us a chance to find a DE.
They cant possibly be worse than what we have!

If we draft a young DE- He wont be at his best, until McCoy is nearing retirement.
And we wont replace McCoy, with anyone near his talent level, until we are drafting top 3- during out next complete rebuild.
Which Hopefully is 15 years from now. When Jameis retires

  33. sorryitriggeredyou Says:

Won’t know what you got till it’s gone 🙁 Hope we can keep in a few more years at at least.

  34. orlbucfan Says:

GMC has always reminded me of the great Lee Roy Selmon (HOF/RIP). I hope he gets in the HOF.

  35. Capt.Tim Says:

    Orlbucfan
    Me too.
I had the pleasure of meeting Leeroy Selmon, when I was just a young kid.
He went so far out of his way, to talk to me, and to make me feel important.
He was a nice, kind man, and I’ll always remember him.

And he was the probably the most dominant DE of his generation.

McCoy is the same kind of man, from the same neck of the woods.
He’ll make the hall of fame.
I just hope hes inducted as a Buc. He may wanna play elsewhere.

  36. BigHogHaynes Says:

Just saw once I would like to see McCoy come off the edge as a DE!

  37. Capt.Tim Says:

In a 3-4 defense, McCoy would be the perfect fit at DE. So would Gholsten.
And Spence and Kwon could wreak havok as rush ‘backers

  38. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

You can easily tell whether a fan understands football or is just a negative blowhard based on their opinion of McCoy. Once I see someone hate on McCoy – I know never to listen to anything they ever say about anything ever.

He’s a brilliant player. His only issue is never having a great DE alongside him to soak up all the easy sacks that any decent DE would have gotten due to the attention teams have to put on McCoy.

I hope he has another 2-3 great years so he can see this thing come to full fruition as Jameis matures into his mid-twenties.

  39. Lamarcus Says:

Capt Tim. He missed his first 2 years so couldn’t be blowing up since he got here. I like McCoy but we had too many guys around him not to work out. His college guys didn’t have that success either. I think we need another “generation” talent and licht is smart just to wait it out. I told ya Chris baker cannot help gmc. We need a elite de hof player at de cuz gmc is good but doesn’t make others better. That’s a fact. Bennett is a better player after he left on a 1 year deal.
