No Prevent Thrown At Fitzpatrick

October 20th, 2017

Showered with blitzes

It’s easy to say Ryan Fitzpatrick helped the Bucs rack up 33 points after trailing 31-0 last Sunday because he was cruising through a prevent defense, but reality shows otherwise.

It turns out, Fitzpatrick was blitzed 14 times, including twice with less than three minutes remaining in the game.

The Cardinals kept plenty of heat thrown at the Bucs, and their defensive starters were around a long time as the Arizona crowd stayed rather jacked up.

The point is, a thorough second look at what Fitzpatrick did last Sunday looks better than it did during the sting of the Bucs’ defense. No wonder Bucs coaches raved about his performance all week.

Fitzpatrick finished 22-0f-32 for 290 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. One pick came on a blitz, as did one of the two sacks he ate. (The other pick, the horrendous one out of the end zone, showed why Fitz is a backup).

In all, on the very off chance Fitzpatrick starts Sunday in place of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, Bucs fans should feel at least a little optimistic.

Thank You Fitz for showing us what Jameis CANNOT DO

    – Accurate passing

    – Decisive decision making

    – Accurate deep passing

    – Starting off fast

  2. Kobe Faker Says:

defense with shutdown Patrick peterson and without is…

    totally different defense

  3. 813bucboi Says:

well now!!!!….dirk has to decide which QB gives us the best chance of winning Sunday!!!!…not confident he makes the right choice….GO BUCS!!!!

  4. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Bucs anthem wtf are you talking about. Fast start???? He didn’t nothing until the second half. I don’t think a quarter with zero production is a fast start. Accurate passing? Maybe you missed that horrendous pick!

  5. pick6 Says:

took what the defense gave him instead of trying to make improbable throws. that needs to be the mantra for JW for a bit. there will always be an open guy with these weapons. we are facing a couple strong defensive teams with less than elite offenses. fight instinct and be checkdown charlie for a couple weeks. it will force people to defend you differently all year, and the big plays will open up on their own

  6. Capt.Tim Says:

Fitz played well. Much better than in the preseason.
If he had to play- we still could win Football games.
    Glad we have him!

But Im also Glad Jameis is Starting Sunday

  7. pick6 Says:

also, as the bucs became better at sustaining possession, they wore down the other defense and gave their own a breather. chain moving matters, unsexy as it is

  8. dooshlarue Says:

    Wise words Pick6.

  9. Lamarcus Says:

That pick to djx will be the story of the offense all year long and doesn’t matter who is throwing to djx it will be picked off.

At this deactivate djx and call up Bobo. Bobo at worst can get some separation from dbs

  10. Lamarcus Says:

Clowns believe ryan Fitz is better than jw is surely smoking dope. The white powder. Fitz is a career loser and will non chalantly lose us games. U think gmc is bad?

  11. Lord Cornelius Says:

but but 813 said it was all prevent defense and it was obvious

813 how pumped are you to talk sh1t about Koetter today? Did you wake up with a boner of excitement? Did Koetter bang your wife or something?

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Bucs fans who are Jameis Brainwashed lovers will come up with ever excuse is the book to defend and Jameis and never give the proper respect for another QB on the Bucs roster

I loved the “prevent” defense excuses coming out of bucs fans after last Sunday’s loss….these are the fans that wouldn’t know the differences between cover 1, 2, 3, 4…….thinking just because DBs drop back in a cover 3 that all of sudden they’re in a Prevent defense…….put the PS4 controller down…..this isn’t madden.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

sure looked like a different defense with pat p missing….cant argue that….I never “like” talking chit about the coach that’s in charge of my favorite team….what type of fan would I be….

but I do call it how I see it….many of folks on here, including joe have been disappointed with the HC…from his play calling to his poor game management to using bad personnel….dirk has shown nothing this year….the players have knowledge being unprepared….that falls on coaching….

you ask what has dirk done to me?….not develop my franchise QB that’s what….Winston has regressed and there’s no debating that….GO BUCS!!!!

  14. Big Stinky Says:

Fitzy should be starting and Jameis should be resting his shoulder for at least a week or two. Koetter is probably going to start Winston though, which is crazy to me. One day to practice on a walk-thru is NOT enough and hopefully Dirk sees that. I don’t want to hear that Jameis’ shoulder is why he is NOT accurate Sunday and why we lose the game. Would rather take my chances on Ryan after how he played last week. Either way we have to win or this season is OVER in my opinion. We need production early out of our offense. Let Ryan play and if he is NOT getting it done by halftime let Winston play the second half since that seems to be the time he shines this year anyway. I hope Koetter loses his job if JW3 doesn’t play well after NOT practicing ALL week. Dirk’s decisions are starting to hurt this team on a regular basis it seems. Hope we get a win on Sunday and ALL is well for another week. Otherwise? Bring the pain! Go BUCS!

  17. Bob in Valrico Says:

There is a subtle message from Mike Evans on the Rock Reilly Tape.He basically said It was good to have continuity .Next sentence Fitzsimmons put the ball where only They could catch it. That should be one of the keys to the game or
Buffalo will score. Jameis makes some great passes, but there is room for improvement on ball placement.

Arizona is not a good football team. This is the same team that scored 18 points against the 49ers, 16 points against the Colts. They was only scoring 16 PPG before the Bucs game.

  20. Lamarcus Says:

Yes I did and I meant that. Djx is toxic to JW I told u so

His completion percentage is way up from his first two years. He has no fumbles and less INT’s that he had at this point last year. He’s played 4 games this year and some of you are ready to get rid of him. I just don’t get it, but even if I did it’s irrelevant because it isn’t going to happen. He was the #1 pick, and is set to break every single team passing record probably within 2 years. It’s just not going to happen. He’s 23 years old. Keeping his age in mind, he’s been fantastic. You are expecting him to be Tom Brady as a 23 year old, which is unrealistic. He definitely has his share of issues and is far from perfect, but at the same time he’s not the reason we are 2-3. Have a little patience. Also, keep in mind that it’s not that easy to find a capable QB in the NFL. Ask about 20 teams.

Trade Fitz to GB for a CB

  23. Reach87 Says:

    Nice response Hawaiian.

  24. Broy34isTiredofComplainersLikeAnthem Says:

Anthem strikes again saying Fitz can make throws jameis can’t. Lmaooo

  25. rrsrq Says:

if’s don’t mean a thing, but if Fitz doesn’t throw that last pick or better yet they don’t call that play, we are talking about a disgusting first half and a Bucs win

  26. pick6 Says:

well said hawaiian buc. people seem to think the minnesota game is emblematic of his season. in fact it is the only game where he’s thrown a pick. his completion % is a hair above his career average and his YPA is at its highest. he has missed more throws than he or anybody else would find acceptable, but he is neither a bust or on of the team’s 3 biggest problems.

His QBR is way down but that is mainly due to “fumbles” (which is what a bad shotgun snap from Ali Marpet counts as statistically)

For sure but outliers happen all the time. The Bears beat the Steelers for example right after we destroyed them. Does that mean the Bucs would destroy the Steelers? I think it just means the NFL is very unpredictable week to week.

  29. Lord Cornelius Says:

Also – forgot to mention the biggest outlier of 2017 – the dismantled and done Giants destroying the one of the hottest teams in the league Broncos.

  30. Lord Cornelius Says:

maybe not hottest* – they lost to the Bills – but the Broncos looked like SB contenders the first 3 weeks

  31. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

    Ditto Hawaiian…

Football is a business…why would the OWNERS sit their investment on the bench and play his back up, if he CAN PLAY!

aaaand good QB’s is not that easy to comeby…notice I did not even say great QB’s which is definitely not easy to comeby!

Nor has the Bucs QB success been anything…hence is why we have Jameis! Even if he turns out to be just a good QB he has some characteristics that a replacement can’t duplicate.

Listen to his team mates, better yet listen to his back up.

“It’s Jameis team….Jameis is the heart of the team”

But it still takes the other players help to win!

  32. Freder Says:

Dirk K. You’re playing for the win, right?
