Martin Was Ready

Considering Doug Martin hopped off his couch and joined the team on Monday, after not practicing or playing since late August, Joe has to give him an “A” for his effort tonight.

Martin was money in the running game, doing just about everything asked of him in 13 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown.

Yeah, in the passing game he was rusty, not catching two catchable balls that could have been thrown better. But that’s what Joe expected after missing so much time.

Martin gave a spark against the NFL’s second worst run defense, and it was great to see.

Now he’s got time to recover and come back in 10 days against an Arizona run defense that’s one of the best in the NFL.

The Bucs lost, but Martin was a winner tonight.

Nah according to the local experts he should be cut. Brainless!

  2. DB55 Says:

Present company excluded of course, that should go without saying.

  3. unbelievable Says:

We had tight ends who have been playing all season with much worse hands than Doug tonight.

He was really the lone bright spot of our offense tonight. Everyone else had their share of garbage plays except Evans.

BTW are You finally done doubting Doug Martin J0e?

  4. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    “less than 10 percent…”

  5. ArthurKoblenzBuc Says:

Crazy. Not a good football player

  6. ArthurKoblenzBuc Says:

We should trade him like yesterday

  7. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Maybe if we had given him some more runs before half time, when we 3 minutes left with 3 time outs and he was on fire.

So many questionable calls and decisions from Koetter this game.

If your “rock star” Gm had never let Matt Bryant out the flipping door, we wouldn’t constantly be getting screwed out of points by sorry effing kickers.

  8. SteveK Says:

Doug Ian healthy and looking great. Onto a third strong season out of six.

  9. NJBucsFan Says:

    We accept your apology

  10. daveman Says:

I think Doug highlighted how really poor our other backs are. Licht has some serious misses lately with Folk and letting this team go 4 weeks without an NFL caliber back on the roster.

  11. MikeToledoOHfan Says:

Definitely more of a spark than Rodgers.. Should’ve ran Doug more 4sure. Joe actually expected him to be cut and Rodgers, Jeremy Gap Tooth, anyone on the roster to be better and take over for months. Take this L Joe >:)

  12. Gencoimports Says:

Keep in mind the NFL’s second worst rushing defense held our other two backs to 5 rushing yards on 4 carries.

  13. DallasBuc Says:

Doug Martin looked great, right Joe? Go Bucs!

  14. DBrooks55 Says:

Koetter really messed up by not pounding the rock more on 2nd down…. Martin was getting 5 yards a pop

  15. AlteredEgo Says:

    All these distraction subjects…..
Jameis is a BUST….and many could see through the hype !
How the hell he ever became a QB is flummoxing

  16. TheLittleGrayCells Says:

Dropped a pass or two, but overall was obviously better than the other backs on the roster.

  17. Trubucfan22 Says:

Go ahead Joe, eat some crow.

  18. Pete Says:

    Patriots could not stop Doug.
    Bucs could, and did!

  19. daveman Says:

Jameis is not a bust. He’s an enigma. He’s like Mike Glennon who also makes about 5-6 spectacular throws a game. Maybe one day he’ll get consistent, but right now he’s just not good enough to take any team to the playoffs.

Being a 3 and out machine like this offense is just so bad in a metagame sense. Racking up yards on big plays without being able to consistently moves the sticks leads to bad outcomes for your defense and a lot of field goal attempts. Sounds familiar for the last 2 years?

  20. Mike Johnson Says:

Martin truly came to play. Unfortunately, Jameis Winston did not in the 1st half. I
will not mention our field goal kicker. I hope he is fired on Friday. You are on national stage, Only NFL game in America and you let the leagues worst defense run you over? I;ve said it a million times on this website, And I will continue to repeat it…KOETTER AND SMITH WERE DUMPED BY MR BLANKS IN ATLANTA FOR A REASON. Koettter called a bad offensive game. He failed to make adjutments despite the Pat having more penalties allowed in a game. And Jameis, late game antics don’t work against the top teams in the NFL. They only work against the winless Giants!! Shameful and Pityful Showing. But heyyy, we are the Bucs right?
Jameis got a long long ways to go Buc fans,

  21. LakeLand Says:

Why did Jameis Winston throw 46 passes in a close ball game, with Doug Martin running through holes all night. Doug should have had at least 25 carries.

  22. Cgmaster Says:

Jameis is a bust!. He carved up the defense that whole fourth quarter and while not playing his best, still had this team in position to win. I mean the stupidity that come out of some Bucs fans mouths is just astonishing.

  23. daveman Says:

    Lakeland,
Because the game was not close. It’s hard to get 25 carries while down by 2 scores and your QB can’t get first downs. You need to complete passes on 3rd and 4 so your RB can get touches.

  24. LakeLand Says:

They went away from Doug when the score was 13-7

  25. Blake_bucsfan Says:

If Brate had caught the touchdown he dropped, when there was still time, we probably win this game.

But nah, we whiffed in the Redzone and let Folk suck any and all hope out of the team.

  26. DB55 Says:

Or you can run the ball on 3rd&4

  27. LakeLand Says:

Doug Martin drove the Bucs downfield and scored a TD. The Bucs led 7-3, then NE scored to make it 10-7. On the next drive, Jameis Winston was sacked on 1st down, then threw 2 passes for 3 and out.

  28. Birdman Says:

I love it. 👌 Martin looked good out there.

  29. Buck Rodgers Says:

No talk of the O line. Think they played very well tonight! Martin hit the holes when there.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

2-2 with 10 days off after almost beating the defending SB champs.

I’ll take it. This team and season has a long ways to go.

Go Bucs. Nice finish, but oh well.

  31. LakeLand Says:

Doug Martin last carry came, when the score was 16-7

  32. LakeLand Says:

The Patriots D-Line was tired, they just played a tough game Sunday against the Panthers. Then they had to fly to Tampa from Boston. Doug Martin was fresh, hadn’t played all year, run him until he fall out.

  33. CautiousOptimism Says:

Banned for football takes at the end of the day. Banned because I’m right, not for malicious content. Delicate egos

  34. FortMyersDave Says:

The blueprint to keeping the Pats D on the field was shown by KC, Carolina and Houston. Run the ball! Koetter abandoned the run game like the Bucs were down by 21 like in Minnesota, hard to believe! The Bucs must have the lowest TOP average in the league as the Bucs throw so much and have so many 3 and outs and its a wonder that it did not gas the D tonight like it did in the Giant game. Bad gameplan and absolutely no adjustments. It sound like a broken record but the Bucs are probably one of the worst teams for not making adjustments at halftime and this has gone back a decade since Chuckie was on the Pirate Ship and to quote Chuckie: “Unacceptable”! Still, despite the poor play calling and lack of adjustments, the team almost won and probably would have with a decent kicker. There is talent on the roster, its just not being used properly,,,,,

  35. Mike Johnson Says:

Jameis Winston and Dirk Koetter let us down. jameis because he starts to GD slow. And Koetter because he cannot make in game adjustments on the fly. With our elite Receiving corp? we should be beating tems offensively into submission. martin was running hard. Yet Koetter took him out of the game. You gotta do better Mr Koetter. Next up? The AZ Cardinals in AZ. This will not be an easy game. None of’em are for the Bucs! Ohhh, and fire NIck Folk. All I got to say to him is, What the Folk was that?!!!

They went away from Doug when the score was 13-7

You are right. why in the world would you not use DM22 more. the playcalling was terrible.

  37. FortMyersDave Says:

Mike Johnson is right: the AZ game is not a given W. In fact you can bet that the Cards will be favored. Bucs will have the advantage of a “mini bye” week but stopping Larry Fitzgerald is gonna be tough and if the Bucs have Grimes all over him then whomever is covered by VH3 might have a big day, hopefully Kwon and LD will be back by then. This team has talent but its going to end up 8-8 or 9-7 given the coaching with poor game planning, poor clock management, poor halftime adjustments and no one on the roster who can kick a 30 yard FG…. Play like they did tonight could beat a bad team like the Bears or Giants but it gonna result in a L when up against a team that is not going to end up 4-12 or 3-13 like Chicago and the Giants….

  38. CautiousOptimism Says:

Aww “A” for effort. What a sweet JBF gesture. He will be amused I’m sure

  39. CautiousOptimism Says:

Wondering if Quizz would have gotten the same dismissive “A” for effort if handed in the same performance? Guessing he would have gotten more than a participation credit of the likes Martin just received.

  40. Fsuking Says:

    Joe = Clown

  41. Fsuking Says:

    Martin = Savior

  42. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Martin was fantastic, minus the two drops. Great to have him back, and hope he keeps it up. The 3 game suspension may actually help us in the long run, because he will have less wear and tear.

I like reading the comments more than the posts!

EAT THAT CROW JOE!!!!! EAT IT!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. LongSeason Says:

I am happy for Doug. The Douginator is back. I will still take him game by game, but at least he didn’t beat his girlfriend/wife, murder someone or shoot himself in the leg. Maybe this proves performance enhancing drugs are not really working like people think.
