Local TV Ratings Up For Bucs; Down For NFL

October 19th, 2017

See what happens when you have a local Bucs blog that inspires and cultivates rabid, 24-7 passion for the home team and doesn’t just churn out boring mainstream media coverage?

Man, it’s almost shameful that Team Glazer isn’t cutting Joe a weekly check.

Joe’s just kidding (only a little). But that rabid Bucs fan base is making its mark on the national scene.

Per Sports Illustrated, NFL owners’ eyeballs are wide open because TV ratings in team markets are down.

Only three cities have increased ratings significantly, according to Albert Breer’s report: the Chiefs, Lions and Bucs. And that’s pretty damn impressive considering a chunk of the Tampa Bay area was still without power from Hurricane Irma when Tampa Bay opened its season. By then any Hard Knocks excitement had evaporated.

Twenty-five of 31 teams (excluding the Chargers, because of the move) are drawing lower local numbers than they did in 2016. Nineteen have dropped 5 percent or more, including brand name teams like the Cowboys (7% drop), Patriots (8%) and Steelers (6%), and both New York clubs (the Giants are down 7%, the Jets are down 37%).  Conversely, only three teams (Chiefs, Bucs, Lions) have improved by more than 5 percent.

Very cool.

This town is ready to explode if the Bucs could figure out how to field a playoff team.

Joe also invented the internet. Oh wait. No, that was Al Gore!

Ratings can drop through the floor very quickly, Bucs! Beware! Play well!

  2. Ryan K Says:

Good read on local ratings. Would be interesting to see why the bucs have had an up-tick. Not to throw shade on Joe (I visit your site at least two times a day), but how much of that is because of Winston and an overall improving team (9-7 last year) that SHOULD be far more competitive in games then in the past ( though that hasn’t held up recently w/ MIN/AZ). Would be interesting to see how bucs games ratings have trended over the last five years.

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Maybe because of fox and cbs always show the same double headers every Sunday.

  4. PRBucFan Says:

lol well if we keep playing like we are that is going to change very very quickly.

  5. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

How many games have sold out again? There’s one reason for an increase in tv viewership.

  6. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

Also evidence the local anthem whining snowflakes are full of spit and actually watching Bucs games from home;)

  7. grafikdetail Says:

  8. NFLNut Says:

I’m pretty sure it’s all Bernard Reedy … LOL

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

Bettter start winning Koetter. The GRUDEN bullet train express is all warmed up and roaring to go! The NFl ratings will go back up. Footballs popularity will not be denied despite the far right.

  10. Phil Says:

To bad the team isn’t playing better. That won’t keep up if they playing the way they have been.

  11. unbelievable Says:

The problem with measuring tv ratings is they don’t factor in views from the digital Sunday ticket package, or people using Roku, ps vue, etc. (which obviously doesn’t make the cable companies any money)

  12. LakeLand Says:

I love watching the Bucs on television. The only time I laugh harder, is when I’m watching some old 3 Stooges shows.

  13. ClodHopper Says:

Jets are down that much? When they’re exceeding expectations? Miserable bastards

  14. D-Rome Says:

Kneeling during the anthem and making statements against the President has played a huge part in the ratings being down for the NFL.

I really do not think that’s true at all. The Nielsen Company is not limited when it comes to their measurements. I worked for Nielsen for years and you’d be surprised how much they are involved in our day to day lives when it comes to advertising and its affects on the public. In short, if it can be measured they are factoring for it.

  16. Capt.Tim Says:

LOl- I agree Joe! The Glazers oughta give you a check every week!
Which you could probably give a small portion of that check to Capt Tim!
For his insightful analysis, and uncanny ability to predict the Bucs future!!! Lol!

    Hey, worth a try!!

As long as all the Bucs keep standing for the Anthem, Ill keep watching.
Ive watched them since the beginning- and they sucked most of the Time!

A DE and a Cb- they’ll do damage!!

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And so…the Chargers finally remember why they left their new city in the first place. Not enough fans.

  18. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

    @ D Rome

How about the sob president making statements against peaceful protests being responsible for the ratings decline? The master negotiator sure knows how to hurt, I mean, help business. I’m sure all the local team bars, vendors, and concession operators are delighted he’s doing what he can to help the working men that depend on the NFL’s popularity.

  19. ClodHopper Says:

As of nine months ago, almost to the day, we no longer have a president who is an sob. Can we move on already?

  20. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

    pos?

  21. ClodHopper Says:

Haha. I expected more Rhonde. I was gonna reply saying you sound like a yankee fan but you let me down.

  22. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

Perhaps the citizen public will move on the day the so-called leader of the free world decides to take a step forward and leads by example.

    Go Astros!

  23. Doctor Stroud Says:

I hope that the Stick Carriers will soon start calling out the free agent acquisitions who are here for a Paid Florida Vacation!

  24. Capt.Tim Says:

Wait til these clueless kneelers start to have their contracts impacted by loss of Viewership.

Disrespect the customer, lose business, lose Money.
As long as the Bucs all stand, Ill watch.
Im done with the test of the NFL.
And I dont miss them a bit

  25. unbelievable Says:

@Rhonde wouldn’t that be novel? Actual leadership from our so called leader?

Apparently dumptards prefer someone who spends their day golfing and getting into twitter wars instead of doing anything useful for our country. It’s sad how truly dumb and brainwashed half this country has become.
