Bucs Have A New Kicker
October 9th, 2017UPDATED: 3:28 p.m. – The Bucs signed their 2014 kicker, Patrick Murray, after his tryout with the team today.
Fan favorite Nick Folk was placed on injured reserve with a “”minor injury” classification. Bruised ego? Nipple contusion? Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud Twittered it’s likely knee tendinitis in Folk’s plant leg. Translation: Folk would have kept kicking if he could split the uprights.
Murray drilled 20 of 24 field goals with Tampa Bay as a rookie, including a whopping five of six from 50-plus yards.
He blew out his knee the following preseason as it appeared he was losing his job to Connor Barth, who had just returned to the roster after starring for the Broncos during the second-half of 2014.
Murray didn’t stick with the Browns last season, and the Bucs picked him up on the street. Murray was a solid kicker for the Bucs, so that’s something — something the last two Bucs kickers can’t say.

I was hoping for Cairo, and yeah I know he’s hurt.
October 9th, 2017 at 1:22 pm
Let the season begin!
October 9th, 2017 at 1:23 pm
Oh..the hair shirt of a Bucs fan
October 9th, 2017 at 1:24 pm
I still hoping for Cairo, and yeah I know he’s hurt
October 9th, 2017 at 1:24 pm
Is Cairo PS eligible? If so, why not sign him there? I would be nice to have another kicker on the team that management has had a long look at (more than a 2 hour tryout).
October 9th, 2017 at 1:26 pm
Sign Marshall Koehn to compete with Murray and Sign Santos to compete with whoever wins the Job when he gets healthy.
At this point we just can’t afford to pass up on anyone.

Barmaid!
Guinness for everyone!!
My Irishman is back!!!
SLAINTE!!!!!
October 9th, 2017 at 1:29 pm
Lol revolving door of kickers.
October 9th, 2017 at 1:33 pm
i liked the kid that kicked for the chargers in preseason. Did we cut folk?
October 9th, 2017 at 1:33 pm
Murray was solid as a Buc.
October 9th, 2017 at 1:38 pm
Welcome back Patty! N GOOD LUCK patty! 20 for 24 this year would sweet, one game of folks misses then perfecto. We sure could use some long ones too. Nice move bucs.
October 9th, 2017 at 1:41 pm
Murray was a good kicker for us.
Been a little less so, since the injury.
Like several here,
I wish Pat the very best
But lets keep Cairo close by. Just in case
October 9th, 2017 at 1:42 pm
Had we signed him last Monday the Bucs would almost certainly be 3-1 now. Damnit!
October 9th, 2017 at 1:43 pm
Is this the point in the season where Joe reminds us how great of a GM Jason Licht is?
October 9th, 2017 at 1:44 pm
Hopefully this one will workout if not, next man up.
October 9th, 2017 at 1:45 pm
That’s figure another retread
October 9th, 2017 at 1:46 pm
Houston signed 2?
October 9th, 2017 at 1:48 pm
Pat is back baby!
When Nick Folk exited Jason Licht’s office after he got cut, he missed the door wide left and ran into the wall
October 9th, 2017 at 1:53 pm
Just read Cairo Santos was their top choice, but wouldn’t be ready until November. Also read because of Santos being ready by November, Pats stay might be a short one.
October 9th, 2017 at 1:54 pm
LOL everyone asking why they haven’t fired Folk yet…are now asking why we didn’t sign Santos who is injured! Tell me how that works?
I’m happy with this to potentially get us by until something better like Santos is available. I hope the Bucs start practicing 2pt conversions at a rapid rate.
October 9th, 2017 at 1:57 pm
Also read Lamarr Houston was working out for tampa
October 9th, 2017 at 1:58 pm
@TouchDownTampaBay
I was thinking the exact same thing
October 9th, 2017 at 2:02 pm
Santos is..the Man. But Murray is probably more reliable than Folk. Lets all widh Mr. Folk the very best. Don’t be surprised to see the Bucs still sign Santos though after his Rehab. Better kick the lights out Murray. Somebody is waiting in the wings…….
October 9th, 2017 at 2:06 pm
@Tampa Bay Tailgater
Maybe not the injured Cairo but isn’t it frustrating that the Chiefs and Raiders were able to sign high-quality replacements in Giorgio Tavecchio and Harrison Butker so quickly off the street?
We’ve been trying and failing for years to find a replacement for Matt Bryant (including wasting a draft pick we could have used on a defender) and given the team’s track record, I’d be surprised if Murray is here next year.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:10 pm
Who cares……we’ll see how this guy does…..the losses are in the past.
Let’s hope he’s just solid the whole season
October 9th, 2017 at 2:18 pm
@King C
Absolutely. You have to question who is making the final decision in the kicking evaluation process. We are going on a decade of round robin’ at the kicking position. Incredibly frustrating, like you say, when other teams get these guys off the street and they drill kick after kick. Seeing the KC kicker last night drill 4 or 5 kicks on prime time made me wonder how different 3-1 would feel over 2-2.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:20 pm
Don’t know why everyone gets so excited about an injured place kicker they have most likely not seen, only heard about….”Fascinating” as Mr. Spock used to say!
October 9th, 2017 at 2:21 pm
Is Santos the bongo player in Santana’s band when he’s not kicking?
October 9th, 2017 at 2:29 pm
so wait, was he unemployed or hurt for all of 2016?
October 9th, 2017 at 2:32 pm
Donald Penn on front page of NY POST. Wish we still had his nasty on our OL.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:32 pm
I had Santos on my fantasy team this year…he was only 3-3 from 30-39 yds. Made all 12 XP before he was injured.
In 2016, Santos was 31 for 35 (88.6) (longest from 54). Santos was 36 for 39 on XP (92.3%).
Folk in 2016 was 27 for 31 (87.1%) with his longest from 51. Folk was 24 for 26 on XP (92.3%).
With the Bucs, Folk is now 54.5% on FG’s and 77.8% on XP.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:32 pm
Before everyone gets giddy about our new kicker, consider this:
“Murray and Barth were both released September 4, 2015, from the Tampa Bay roster in favor of rookie kicker Kyle Brindza. On September 5, 2015, he (Murray) was placed on injured reserve. On May 19, 2016, he was waived by the Buccaneers. On June 9, 2016, Murray signed with the Cleveland Browns. On September 11, 2016, Murray connected on his first field goal as a member of the Browns, a 35-yarder. On September 24, 2016, he was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury. He was released by the Browns on December 23, 2016. On August 6, 2017, Murray signed with the New Orleans Saints. He was waived on August 12, 2017.”
October 9th, 2017 at 2:33 pm
Nick Folk on IR? Really? I think Licht is just trying to save face by saying he was hurt instead of he cant pick a kicker.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:35 pm
“UPDATE 2:29 p.m. ET: The Buccaneers announced Murray’s signing. Folk has been placed on injured reserve with a “minor injury” designation, which means he’ll be released once he’s healthy”
Fingers crossed that we can just have an average to below average kick game vs worst in the league.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:36 pm
i like the asian kid who was with the chargers…koo…he has a coo name…and the bucs would be coo to have a more multi cultural team…can anyone say asian persuasion?…i’m sure folk can…his mind always seemed to be in thailand on gameday
October 9th, 2017 at 2:36 pm

October 9th, 2017 at 2:42 pm
Folk’s feeling were hurt so badly that he went on IR? Yikes
October 9th, 2017 at 2:48 pm
Should have signed Butker while we had the chance. Dude is one of the best kickers I have seen in a long time. Every one of his kicks go straight down the middle of the uprights no matter where he kicks it from. Chiefs badly beat us to the punch.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:48 pm
I didn’t know butt-hurt constituted IR.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:53 pm
It’s a good start.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:53 pm
Anyone notice that Folk seems over weight and out of shape? Go back and look at some pics from last year with the Jets.
October 9th, 2017 at 2:53 pm
Any of those guys would have made the Bucs 3-1.
October 9th, 2017 at 3:00 pm
@Cobraboy SADLY YOU ARE CORRECT. Welcome back Murray!
October 9th, 2017 at 3:00 pm
There needs to be some sort of ritualistic sacrifice of a chicken on the 50 yard line at Raymond James. Well maybe not that brutal but maybe Patrick Murray needs to throw a bucket of KFC legs through the goal posts to get rid of the bad juju!
October 9th, 2017 at 3:01 pm
Capt.Tim Says
“Murray was a good kicker for us.
Been a little less so, since the injury.”
You mean in the whole two kicks he had? Of which he made half. lol
October 9th, 2017 at 3:02 pm
reports are saying that Folk landed on the IR
October 9th, 2017 at 3:02 pm
Folk put on IR with a bad case of Aguayoitis.
October 9th, 2017 at 3:02 pm
Out of shape and another safe space kicker. Apparently Chris Baker ruined him. Poor guy.
October 9th, 2017 at 3:03 pm
Oh my gosh…they placed Nick Folk on Injured Reserve! LOL
October 9th, 2017 at 3:04 pm
Bet I know why they did it. If they cut him they owe him more money. If they put him on IR they can reach a settlement.
Don’t think it is within the rules, but I bet Licht don’t care, lol.
And so…watch the Bucs get sued by another kicker…lol
October 9th, 2017 at 3:07 pm
His injured pride landed him on IR.
October 9th, 2017 at 3:09 pm
A prediction: Folk will get picked up by another team mid-season, then kick a game-winning FG sending his new team to the playoffs.
October 9th, 2017 at 3:10 pm
Lamarr Houston in for a tryout? Are they kidding us? He’s another injury prone player who never did anything (except one year of 8 sacks).
October 9th, 2017 at 3:10 pm
@Seminole Bill
Folk is still with the team. Injured Reserve.
October 9th, 2017 at 3:48 pm
What I remember most is he kicks them lower then most do, yet hard, almost like a Soccer penalty kick…very unusual look to his kicks. My fear is these will have a tendancy to be low enough to get blocked at times. Gees, hope I’m wrong.
October 9th, 2017 at 3:54 pm
Surprised I haven’t seen Lawrence ‘Mersa’ Tynes on somebody’s WishList.
October 9th, 2017 at 4:02 pm
Blocked by the Browns. I hope this is rare!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XV1U2tEJDs0
October 9th, 2017 at 4:02 pm
At least we now have a kicker who has not missed 5 FGs in his last 2 games on the roster…
October 9th, 2017 at 4:39 pm
your block video led me to this great memory (run michael!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7bBvQP3v8k
October 9th, 2017 at 4:46 pm
He may be on IR because it is his time of the month
October 9th, 2017 at 4:55 pm
Call the raiders in 3 weeks. They can’t keep both their kickers and they’re are both awesome af. Then you can cut Murray again.
October 9th, 2017 at 4:57 pm
I hate field goals now.. like dread them.
October 9th, 2017 at 5:01 pm
Good. With Murray’s Injury history says sign The injured chiefs kicker… Santos to the PS too
October 9th, 2017 at 5:08 pm
Actually, I just threw a dart at the ol’ injury dart board in my office. “Knee Tendonitis” was the winner! Then, I slapped a byline on it. Now, that’s journalism at its finest!
October 9th, 2017 at 5:17 pm
DB55 Says
“Call the raiders in 3 weeks. They can’t keep both their kickers and they’re are both awesome af. Then you can cut Murray again.”
Or…we could see if he loses the job on his own by giving him a fair chance. What happens in three weeks if he has only missed one FG? Or none?
Really, the guy hasn’t had a fair shake since leaving here. He filled in for an injured kicker, making 2 of 4 FGs and all but one XP. Other than that, he spent time in a camp where the kicker was predetermined.
I say give him a chance. And yes, I know 3 games is giving him a chance. I meant give him a chance before deciding to cut him.
I have a feeling the kid might just prove that the Bucs should never have drafted Aguayo (as if we needed proof).
October 9th, 2017 at 5:27 pm
Hope we don’t need him that often. Like Andy Reid said during their game yesterday. We should be scoring TD’d not kicking Field Goals.
October 9th, 2017 at 5:30 pm
^ TD’s
October 9th, 2017 at 5:30 pm
Bonzai nicely done. Gotta love when people try to sound smart lmao
October 9th, 2017 at 5:41 pm
Bonzai
The back up kicker is perfect he hasn’t missed a kick and you know Sabastian money too. Can’t go wrong.
October 9th, 2017 at 5:44 pm
Broy
Don’t do it to yourself brother. Best to leave me alone. Ty
October 9th, 2017 at 6:08 pm
Yea DB I’m absolutely terrified with what a stranger will say on a keyboard. I do as I please and it pleases me to call out a negative guy who refers to McCoy as ice cream man. Ur funny though I got a nice laugh at a joebucsfan.com threat. I sincerely hope you find joy in life eventually.
October 9th, 2017 at 6:12 pm
Broy
Me too! Ty.
October 9th, 2017 at 6:14 pm
And db55 I was referring to your comment on another article I believe. And when I said nicely done bonzai is was talking about his comment about captain tim saying he hasnt been good since his injury. So really not sure what your beef is. It is humorous however as I do indeed believe you to be constantly negative
October 9th, 2017 at 6:20 pm
Roy T. Buford Says:
Terrible blocking, #90 leaped through the C/G and almost caught the kick in his chest.
That is not on Murray.
October 9th, 2017 at 8:03 pm
@Cobraboy, fair enough…hope he works out.
October 9th, 2017 at 10:11 pm
Nipple contusion!!!!!! Lmfao!!!!!!😝😜🤣👊👊👊 goteeeeeem!!!! That’s gold Jerry, I mean joe!!!! Nailed it.
October 9th, 2017 at 10:53 pm
Bonsai , he had 45 to 50 tackles for several years and 8 sacks plus over 60 tackles a couple years ago …………. please show me some Bucs d lineman with talent to put up or have put up 65 tackles and 8 sacks.
Yes he is injury prone but lottsa players that truly ball out snap to snap are also,,,,, C Conte is also but he brings allot of effort play in and play out and actually has been very good !!! C Conte brings the wood way more than is realized by the fans and that is why he gets injured .
