Belichick Defends America
October 3rd, 2017Some silly narrative floated around the area in recent days about what is a franchise quarterback and how to identify one.
Specifically, is America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, a franchise quarterback?
It seems this debate can now be put to bed. It’s over. The answer is out there for anyone who cares to read.
And it comes from no less an authority than Bill Belicheat.
The greatest coach of his generation, Belicheat and his Patriots visit Tampa to play the Bucs on Thursday Night Football, and in a teleconference call with the local pen and mic club, Belicheat offered his thoughts on Jameis when asked if he is a franchise quarterback, per Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times.
“He’s pretty much already done it in two years. What more do you want him to do?”
There you have it. What more is there to say?
Guess the Jameis haters will find something to grumble about anyway.

The haters never miss the inevitable embrace of Karma. Karma has not miss an appointment since eternity.
Jameis missing piece is the connection with DeSean. This soon will be resolve and this offense will have the NFL shaking.
Go Bucs!!!

Now i’m worried. Every time Bellickeck heaps any kind of praise on an opposing QB, his defense comes out that game and makes that QB look like s(h)it. Yeah, there’s rumors abound that this Patriots team isn’t the Patriots teams of years past, and I will admit at halftime during the last SB, I was thinking to myself, so this is how the legacy ends huh? Then the second half got under way. NEVER count out the greatest HC & QB combo that has ever been, NEVER.

Buc4Lyfe- how right you are.
October 3rd, 2017 at 7:17 am
People give Jameis to much grief because of turnovers. Other than the Denver game last year, he only forces the ball when we are down. All his multi turnover games have come when the Defensive puts us in a hole and then Jameis fights to get us out. He never gives up or stops competing. You name me another QB with that kinda of Passion other than # 12. Bucs win 35-29….fire the cannons!!!!
October 3rd, 2017 at 7:21 am
Fella’s, I don’t think the article is about us beating the Pats. It’s about those tearing Jameis a new one after a loss are ass hats. Not that it’s going to change their minds, but exposing the ignorance is nice.
October 3rd, 2017 at 7:24 am
Belichek is a hall of fame coach that uses bugs bunny psychology on the teams he plays against and is a master at it, jameis is one of the best up and coming qbs in the league and maybe belichek knows it but probably is more concerned with his Defense and his OL thats getting brady laid out. What is the reason there is always some crazy looking photo of jameis on this site, seems like you are making fun of him via the pictures you always post next to his article
October 3rd, 2017 at 7:35 am
^^^”…bugs bunny psychology…”
So true and so funny

The question to ask if anyone had the balls to ask it is “Is Jameis America’s QB?”

You saying jw taking steroids? Come’on bruh
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:19 am
I am an ardent Jameis lover; wanted him from his first game at fsu vs pitt before everyone else jumped on the jamies wagon. With that said, there is nore he can do. Win the division, win a playoff game, win a conference title, and then win a super bowl. Go Buccs!
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:23 am
I admire what Bella-cheat and Brady have done over the years. You have to give praise where praise is do and to have as many successful seasons and Super Bowls as they have had, with few draft pieces and few key free agent signings and to compete year after year is mind-boggling. That being said there is always and end to an era and i hope that this Bucs team is turning the corner with the evolution and maturing of Jamies as well as connection with recievers will help put the Pats era into the retirement home. Defense needs to improve and i hope Mike Smith defensive scheme is ready for this offense. This game can be a HUGE turning point for our confidence and future for this franchise, shutting up all those pats fan for once would be soooo satisfying too. That being said i still respect and fear Baby…oops, i mean Brady’s play as one of the best, all I’m saying is i hope his time has come to be put to pasture. You can bet your @$$ i will be at this game and i hope i’ll be hung over with a huge smile on my face come Friday!
GO BUCS!!!!!!!
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:27 am
Really Joe? What more is there to say? To a player like Jameis, being labeled a ‘franchise QB’ is irrelevant I’m sure. That’s not his goal … his stated goal is to lead his team to winning multiple Super Bowls. Jameis is an outstanding young man who’s learning & growing every single day. The 2 attributes I see in him more than anything else are his love of the game and his desire to excel at it. Combine that with his God-given talent and the sky’s the limit. If the Bucs organization surrounds him with quality players & excellent coaching what we’re seeing out of him now is just the tip of the iceberg.
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:47 am
James is our qb ..He is great and very young ..He will get better .. I am so happy that we got him..he is going to take us to the Superbowl..
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:50 am
” What more do you want him to do?””….hit DeJ in stride
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:52 am
Yea, when I read what the #1COACH said…I was like thank you…you did not have to tell me that MY OWN EYES and JW’s play told me. But some COUCH COACH and ARM CHAIR PLAYER or Jameis hater will still try to argue the point!
WHAT MORE DO THEY WANT? more than any other QB is giving, no matter the QB it takes a team to win a game!
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:55 am
I’m a die hard jameis fan…this is classic belechick responses …lol…loved the answer on Doug Martin too
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:58 am
What more do you want? It is almost as if unless the Bucs win every game 48-0 some “fans” aren’t happy.
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:58 am

Now I know you guys just say anything to stir the pot without actual facts, you just said “Every time Bellickeck heaps any kind of praise on an opposing QB, his defense comes out that game and makes that QB look like s(h)it.” Can you explain this past Sunday? Because he heaped all kinds of praise on Cam Newton.
Now I do I think the patriots defense will play as bad as they did Sunday, absolutely not, but I have faith in my Bucs. This is the game they had circled on the schedule the day it came out. They are fired up about this one!
October 3rd, 2017 at 9:03 am
Thank you GILHEALY…they still don’t get it…SMH..yes they may beat the BUCS,
but that doesn’t mean that JW is not the franchise…they will not just be playing Jameis they will be playing the BUCS☠
Billicheat know when his QB retire he would love to have some young BUC (no pun intended) like Jameis! (after the haters run him off)
October 3rd, 2017 at 9:14 am
We play the AFC East every 4 years, This might be the only time Jameis plays Brady. Except for the SB. Enjoy it #3 and give Brady something he will remember.
October 3rd, 2017 at 9:24 am
Nah DB I’m a little suspicious of the golden boy brady bro. A few seasons ago I noticed more than few passes of his just die in the air, recall saying to myself duke losing velocity. Seems to have found it again from somewhere.
October 3rd, 2017 at 9:32 am
Remember sherman saying all manning throws is ducks. It was because his down field throws would just all of sudden start fluttering to ground before reaching the receiver. I get it no two arm are the same but I’m watching this brady fella and duke has found some arm strength from somewhere. Makes me wonder, and for anyone who thinks I’m being a little biased for the record I believe the nba’s face lebron james is juiced up as well. Duke seems indestructible. His name came up on a list not too long ago but was swept under the rug. If you research this you will find he had a surgical procedure to remove parts of his jaw bone. Classic case of human growth hormone.
October 3rd, 2017 at 10:10 am
Does any fan with half a working brain expect the greatest coach in NFL history to give bulletin board material to an opponent or say something disparaging about the opposition?
Jameis is on the right path to earning that label but is too inconsistent and turnover prone to be labeled a franchise QB yet.
October 3rd, 2017 at 10:30 am
Lol Joe is getting played here. Bill compliments all his opponents. It’s part of his MO and Joe is falling hard. Smh
October 3rd, 2017 at 10:53 am
Nole4Jaboo….lol calm down. Jameis isn’t going anywhere. Haters or not.
October 3rd, 2017 at 12:46 pm
Jameis is a franchise QB. If you let him make your teeth nash a bit, yeah there will be the occasional bad throw, but in return you get a guy who can make plays.
October 3rd, 2017 at 1:03 pm
#3 in passing this season. 95 rating. Not too shabby.
October 3rd, 2017 at 1:13 pm
Joe’s Idol doesn’t agree
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/10/03/week-four-power-rankings-7/
19. Buccaneers (2-1; No. 21): On Thursday night, Jameis Winston gets another chance to become a franchise quarterback.
October 3rd, 2017 at 2:51 pm
BB is a great coach and I love Jameis but lets not act like BB would say Jameis has a long way to go or anything. Lets be honest. 2 4000 yard seasons is nice but it doesnt make you a franchise QB. Jameis still has a lot to prove. No division titles, no playoff wins/appearances. Hopefully that changes this year but Lets stop crowning him until he actually does something meaningful.
October 3rd, 2017 at 2:55 pm
Some on here I think get the meaning of the labels ELITE…FRANCHISE…and SUPERIOR mixed up. IMO the only label that Jameis is trying to attain is to be SUPERIOR.
He is ELITE because he has achieved and excelled in some areas of other so called EliteQBs in and out the league!
He is Franchise because of the above reason and until replaced he is the Franchise he was drafted to be.
And wrap it all up in, HE is the catalyst that helped change the attitudes in the locker room.
Even when he is having a bad game which every player has (ask Folk), the team still wants to play harder because of him!
BELIEVE or not that TEAM/FAMILY is stronger than being PERFECT…you play hard for each other!

bucs 35 pats 32…kicker comes thru again!!…GO BUCS!!!!
October 3rd, 2017 at 4:09 pm
When we no longer need to ask the question, that’s when he’s a franchise QB
October 3rd, 2017 at 6:21 pm
Yes he’s helped change the losing culture but we’ve only had 1 winning season. So we cant really say the Culture has changed yet. Lets see what happens this season. Go Bucs!
October 3rd, 2017 at 7:16 pm
StAug > I kinda agree.
Now, about that kicking game… I’m awaiting a story Joe
October 3rd, 2017 at 8:17 pm
3 is prob the 13th best qb at this stage
Let’s see if he can crack the top 10
October 4th, 2017 at 12:23 am
Jameis is the greatest and most accomplished
October 4th, 2017 at 12:33 am
******************************
Jameis is the most accomplished QB at his age in the history of football … that is an indisputable fact.
However, he’s still just 23, younger than Went, Dak … probably even younger than a QB or two that will get drafted in the upcoming draft.
If I’m drafting from ALL players league-wide to build a team for the next 15-20 years, I’m taking Jameis #1 overall.
If I’m taking one QB to play just one do-or-die game with an average offense, defense, special teams and coaches, I’m taking Jameis #4 , behind Rodgers, Brady, Brees … I honestly don’t think there is any QB in the NFL right now that is “obvipusly better” than Jameis other than “the big 3”.
There are certainly guys on Jameis’ tier, such as Stafford and Roethlisberger
but only the “big 3” are “obviously better”.
TIER ONE: Rodgers, Brady, Brees
TIER TWO: Roethlisberger, Jameis, Stafford, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck
TIER THREE: Alex Smith, Carson Wentz, Dak Prescott, Tyrod Taylor, Kirk Cousins, Cam Newton, Derek Carr
TIER FOUR: Mariota, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning
TIER TWENTY: Joe Flacco, Mike Glennon, Jay Cutler
***********************************

Jameis haters gotta realize that Jameis came to the last place team in the league and has just made us better and better. He didn’t go to a playoff team like Brady. He didn’t have the best OL like Prescott. But the league respects him because hes helped this team get respectable again. You simply cannot win 2 games then just go to the playoffs or win the super bowl the very next year. S

You simply cannot win 2 games then just go to the playoffs or win the super bowl the very next year. Some of you are ridiculous. We haven’t had a QB this good since Doug Williams. Stop trying to run every good player we have out of town with your idiotic thinking. Tampa Bay has never had a great offense. Not even the Super Bowl year. This team will continue to improve with him here. Of course he’s the franchise. He’s done nothing but prove it.
October 4th, 2017 at 3:30 am
^ Well put Shane. I honestly believe many so-called “Bucs fans” that are Jameis-haters are simply too proud to admit they were wrong about him BEFORE he was drafted and would rather nitpick the young man and focus on his faults than praise him for what he has accomplished as they think doing so would be admitting they were wrong about him before he was drafted … such people are quite pathetic and really not worth the time it takes to even reply to their idiotic posts.
