No Intel From Jameis

September 21st, 2017

Bucs have not consulted.

This is a strange one for Joe to swallow.

Most NFL teams are meticulous to the point of phobias when it comes to collecting intel on opponents. It’s as if NFL teams are full of nothing but spooks who used to work for the CIA the way they crave classified information and minutiae.

So today when America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, took the podium for his weekly presser, Joe was shocked when Jameis stated no one with the Bucs defense has asked him about any secrets he may have on his former college teammate, Dalvin Cook, as players (and coaches) usually look for any advantage they can get.

Of course, Cook is the star running back of the Vikings, the Bucs’ opponent Sunday. Cook is third in the NFL in rushing with 199 yards.

It’s very difficult for Joe to believe no defensive assistant, no defensive teammate, has pulled Jameis aside to ask for any tendency Cook may have or some physical tick he may possess that could give the Bucs defense an edge. Who at One Buc Palace would know Cook better than Jameis?

If someone would ever pass along this statement from Jameis, Bill Belicheat would chortle loudly.

From your old post Joe. Easy. If they did alot homework on DC then no need to get jameies input

  2. Pickgrin Says:

Here’s your “Intel” on Dalvin Cook.

Don’t let him get the edge. Tackle his ass. LOL

  3. Brandon Says:

Hmmm, that’s stupid. To ask his former QB for intel? They were in college together, there are college scouts that have way better intel than Jameis does.

  4. R.O. Says:

    Overblown…

  5. Lord Cornelius Says:

What kind of intel were you expecting that can’t be gained from watching his tape?

They’re better off just watching the Vikings tape and preparing for the Vikings style of offense then trying to look for some weird thing to over analyze from 3 years ago when Winston last played with Cook lol. What a weird story

  6. DB55 Says:

Cook is third in the NFL in rushing with 199 yards,

Man that stings. Coulda, shoulda, woulda

  7. Lord Cornelius Says:

    than*

  8. bucs_365 Says:

NON STORY. What the h3LL is Jameis going to tell them that they can’t see on film? Nothing.

  9. Bucfanbf Says:

    Fake News

  10. Joe Says:

    Hmmm, that’s stupid.

So it was stupid for Jason Licht and Mike Smith and others with the Bucs to have a sitdown with Kwon Alexander to pick his brain about Kendell Beckwith?

Believe it or not, sometimes former teammates, especially guys who shared hundreds of huddles together, know more about a player than a scout.

  11. Zach Says:

It’s different we are drafting a guy for our team…. What’s Jameis going to say that is going to be helpful? “This guy is quick” “This guy doesn’t like to be tackled” “He wasn’t the greatest pass protector 3 years ago when I played with him”

  12. Drew Says:

@Joe… you’re trying to compare apples and oranges with the Kwon/Kendall comparison.

  13. webster Says:

Whoever asked this question at the press conference should be fired. Cook was a freshman the last time he played with jameis. Plus the vikings scheme is different than fsu so asking jameis for tips is pointless. Fire whoever asked this question or at least revoke his press credentials.

  14. Mick Says:

Joe man I know you need clicks but cmon…

  15. Blake_bucsfan Says:

It’s because they have all the information they could possibly need of him on film.

The Steelers had cook rushing for less than 2 yards per carry in the first half last week. And then they let him bounce outside twice in the second half and he had 2 big runs.

Make a concerted effort to take away rushing lanes outside/ setting an edge and we will stifle Cook with relative ease.

  16. RayJameisStadium Says:

    Lazy comes to mind. Smh

  17. westernbuc Says:

He’s a running back, what intel could possibly be shared?

  18. Roy T. Buford Says:

Jameis isn’t going to tell something like that to a reporter. The way he laughed when asked such a stupid question was more of “I can’t believe you’re asking me that and I’m not going to discuss that with you” as his answer included that they are going to do what they do.

  19. TampaTown Says:

    What Pickgrin said.

  20. Dewey Selmon Says:

I’m pretty sure they did all their intel predraft. He was on their board.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

This certainly isn’t a “non” story……look at some of the possibilities.

! Nobody on the Bucs gives a $hit.
    2. They already know everything.
    3. Kwon & LVD will run him down no matter what so why bother
    4. Jameis lied…..someone did ask him but he doesn’t want to rat them out.
    5. Pablo told them.

  22. Oj "I Got The Juice" Howard Says:

Pickgrin that was funny as hell

  23. Q Says:

Nice choice on names joe…”spooks”? I think there can be a different choice when referencing a ghost…in the 50s they called blacks spooks

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

Q whew that’s a bit oversensitive. I just saw a 60 minute interview with the writer John Lecarre who writes about spooks which is also a well known term for spies. It’s the context that you use words that matter. And Joe was also correct for chastising BPSN for calling Raheem Morris “Raydio”…everybody knew what they meant.

As for the intel question I think Dewey nailed it. They got their very best info from #3 on DC before the draft when he would have told them everything in the hopes that we would draft his former teammate.

  25. Buc50 Says:

Q…intel people are known as spooks. I certainly didn’t take in any other way

  26. Lord Cornelius Says:

“Make a concerted effort to take away rushing lanes outside/ setting an edge and we will stifle Cook with relative ease.”

Ton of his biggest FSU runs were inside. If he gets to the 2nd level on any run it’s going to be dangerous

  27. McBuc Says:

He did not say he did not offer it up…

  28. McBuc Says:

Q, Spies have always been called that, to this day. Not everything is race related or political.

  29. Pick6 Says:

given that they scouted the living daylights out of him before the draft and probably played 20 questions with Jameis at that time, it’s not really surprising at all that they have no questions in September. Also, maybe they want their QB to focus on his own really important job (getting ready for one of the league’s best defenses) instead of helping the coaches and scouts do theirs

  30. Steven007 Says:

Take away the outside lane, tackle him soundly, drive his questionable shoulder into the ground. Simple. This isn’t ballet.

  31. Steven007 Says:

Oh, and go for the fumble obviously.

  32. SB Says:

If someone would ever pass along this statement from Jameis, Bill Belicheat would chortle loudly.
    ………….
    What statement did Jameis make???

  33. Q Says:

Joe not saying it was intended but your choice of words should be checked and corrected….spook is not a slang term that should be thrown around …i enjoyed reading you before

  34. Roy T. Buford Says:

Buc50 and others are right, the word “spook” has always been about “spies” and it’s commonly used. Any other use except perhaps to describe ghosts is of course, inappropriate (if intended as racist), but those whose frame of reference and vocabulary is so narrow incapable of seeing the obvious context, slang are not, are who have the problem, not the user.

  35. Buccaneer scotty Says:

What a dumb ass story! Put the morning cup of joe back

  36. Bird Says:

Oh cmon. Of course they have talked!

Joe – do you believe I was the former president of the United States cause I just said it?

  37. Iamabuc Says:

I’ll bet it was Joe, the one who ask the question. Lol

  38. Issic Haggins Says:

Def an oversight not to ask about tendencies that may have been worked on or were known at FSU

BTW J Golf just had a better game than Winston has had career to date so enough of the Winston leadership crap……… The main reason is accuracy ,almost 80 percent completion . Winston needs much better coaching , his mechanics are not real good ,better than last year but still not in sink and he constantly doesn’t align his feet towards his throws ……… Love Winston but it’s his third year and he needs major improvement and right now second year Golf is simply better !!! And it’s all mechanics and accuracy / coaching , Three missed tds last week !!! Enough with the leadership we are well aware it’s great but the accuracy and mechanics simply are not !!!
