New Names On The Bucs’ Long Injury List

September 27th, 2017

2017 debut

Here’s the damage.

Raising Joe’s eyebrow this afternoon is J.R. Sweezy’s 2017 debut on the injured list. And yes, it’s a back issue.

As fans know, Sweezy missed all of the 2016 offseason, preseason and regular season because of a mysterious back surgery. He’s been a full participant throughout 2017, but he was limited in practice today.

This is the entire list and their Wednesday practice status.

Kwon Alexander (hamstring) –  Did Not Participate
Lavonte David (ankle) – Did Not Participate
T.J. Ward (hip) – Did Not Participate

Gerald McCoy – (ankle) – Limited participation
Robert Ayers – (knee) – Limited participation
J.R. Sweezy – (back) Limited Partipation

Brent Grimes (shoulder) Full participation
Chris Baker (illness) Full participation
Jacquies Smith (illness) Full participation
Noah Spence (Shoulder) Full participation

Great news on Spence and Grimes. The loss of Grimes was far too meaningful in Minnesota on Sunday. Grimes was seen in the locker room engaged in a highly spirited game of table tennis before practice, so maybe that’s an extra good sign.

Spence’s separated shoulder likely is back in the harness he used nearly all of last season. At least he’s used to it.

    NEXT MAN UP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS

PS. STAND FOR THE FLAG, KNEEL FOR THE CROSS

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Spence and Jacquies Smith being practicing is huge against a Giants team that has a terrible offensive line. Also Grimes playing is the key, since if Ryan Smith sees the field at all Beckham will have over 850 yards receiving.

  3. Harlow Says:

Great to see Spence with full participation.. should we expect to see him starting on sunday?

  4. Roy T. Buford Says:

Not as bad as it could be, but the LB situation is dire. Glad to see Noah Spence on the list for being a full go. I’ll be paying attention from home Sunday. I see several hundred West Club tix are up for sale. I hope Mike Evans enjoys playing for NYG fans, as now it’s my turn to protest as my tix are up for sale until the Bucs decide to stand and the owners make a statement that they’d like to see the players stand IAW the U.S. Code for the national anthem.

  5. Lamarcus Says:

Sweezy probably got hurt getting mauled by that dine man which lead to sack. Ugly play

  6. Rads Says:

These were Sweezy’s first couple real games in the past 20 months. Probably a maintenance day. If he had really tweaked it or was at risk of herniating it again, he wouldn’t have been a limited participant.

  7. Do it Says:

Illness? Ever hear of getting a flu shot?

  8. 😆@you idiots Says:

Who gives a damn if they stand or kneel? Stop making a big deal out of it! They have the right to do it so respect that. Sell the tickets if you want to but games will still be watched so how is that a protest when the owners still getting paid regardless? Do you say the pledge of allegiance or sing the national anthem before you go to work? I doubt it stop the foolery and open your eyes we are going to war that’s all this is about you sheep!

  9. Rads Says:

Need TJ Ward ready. His run support is lethal. He helps negate the speed we’ve lost with our LBs out.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

    MASH unit.

  11. Lord Cornelius Says:

The injury report is awesome news despite the headline appearing negative and focusing on Sweezy. Then again the Joes have been obsessed with Sweezy’s back all offseason.

Biggest news out of this is Grimes / Baker / Jaquis Smith / Spence getting in full practices. Joe’s obsessed with pass rush as most of us are – and that’s our 2 best speed rushers getting full days in; in preparation to face some of the worst OTs int he league.

Such a sad story about Spence and that shoulder. At least we know he could pressure the QB without a shoulder last year; but I just hate that for him as a player trying to develop into a bad4ss.

  12. Buc1987 Says:

    😆@you idiots Says:

“Who gives a damn if they stand or kneel?”

Apparently millions of military vets and americans alike.

The anthem has everything to do with respect for the military. Somebody told these players differently.

I’m borderline right now. Keep doing it and I will not watch or buy tickets.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

if spence and j.smith play, then we have a real chance at exposing the giants….the weakness on offense are their tackles…the struggle with speed rushers….lets get it!!…GO BUCS!!!

  14. Wausa Says:

    I’m with you Buc1987.

All my buddies in the Air Force are disgusted and hurt by what some of the NFL players are doing.

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Limited participation from Sweezy doesn’t mean out….

It is a very good thing that we have Grimes, Spence & Jack Smith….

We are healthier than I thought we would be….especially healthy on offense.

  16. CautiousOptimism Says:

“J.R. Sweezy – (back) Limited Partipation”
    Hahahahah. Shocker
    Ayers, THE Mr Beasting?
McCoy hurt? I don’t believe it.

  17. SOEbuc Says:

The did not participate is obviously devastating. I’m really hoping they’re just giving Ward an extra day off to relax the hip. Unless these guys get more f’d up, GMC, Ayers, and Sweezy limited is a game time decision I suppose. Love seeing Grimy, Jaq, Noah, and Baker going full. If you think about it, other than Kwon and LVD, this injury list might not be as bad as everyone thinks. Gotta wait till game time to see what is going to happen I suppose. EVERYONE GET WELL SOON!!! GO BUCS!!!

  18. AlteredEgo Says:

    Boy…what we could have done with that 2016 2nd round pick…. 🙂

  19. 813bucboi Says:

    @YOU…I AGREE…..

@87….millions of vets and americans support “the cause”….its not about the flag…never was….its about social inequality….something that you probably never experience….

the flag stands for more than the military….it stands for “justice for all”…but unarmed black men aren’t getting the justice….

if your borderline, I hope this pushed you off the ledge….

players will continue to sit or kneel and everyone will continue to get paid….the NFL is a 10 billion dollar business….you think all of that comes from tickets and beer sales?…..its all about TV….its a new day….enjoy the sun rise!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  20. CitruscountyBUC Says:

Hey 😆@you idiots, it’s a right to do it on your own time. You don’t have the right to protest or say whatever you want on your bosses time.

  21. Capt Kidd Says:

So the flag belongs to the military? Hmmph, I always thought it represented all the citizens.

  22. CautiousOptimism Says:

Citruscounty- apparently the bosses don’t have a problem with it probably because they actually respect the meaning behind the symbols more than the symbols themselves.

  23. Joe Says:

The injury report is awesome news despite the headline appearing negative and focusing on Sweezy. Then again the Joes have been obsessed with Sweezy’s back all offseason.

If you don’t think a key starter who missed an entire season with back surgery two weeks into the next season pops up on the injury report with the same problem, you have zero clue what news is.

  24. jerseybuc Says:

Vernon may be out which would be a very good thing. G men have two very good pass rushers and maybe the premier safety in the league. Collins has absolutely trucked guys his first two games, reminds me of Ronnie Lott. All I could think about watching Hargreaves chase Diggs last week was what would Beckham do to him. Hopefully Grimes not only starts, but stays on the field. Spence may never be 100% all year with his problem and same with Kwon. Giants will be beyond desperate and I bet there will be 20K blue jerseys or more in the stands….Don’t let me down Bucs, I have to live with these fans up here!

  25. Buc1987 Says:

813bucboi…the anthem is about respect for the military. The end. What part of that do you not understand?

Perhaps I’ll post it in question from for you to get it or maybe Google can help you out.

Question : Why do players at sporting events stand for the nation anthem?
Answer : Out of respect for the military\ and what they fought and died for.

I know the left doesn’t understand this concept cause they wouldn’t keep encouraging it. There’s a reason WHY vets are pissed off. They don’t care why they are doing it. They care because it’s being done at the wrong and disrespecting them. Make no mistake about it, people WILL stop tuning in. The billion dollar business you seem to think is untouchable will be brought down to it’s own knees if this keeps up.

You can take all that to the bank. I’m not a vet and even I know the standing for the anthem is about respect for the military.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

Capt Kidd…perhaps you need Google too. So much ignorance!

  27. CitruscountyBUC Says:

We will see if the bosses have a problem with it when they start losing money.

  28. The Buc Realist Says:

For those that are saying that the money comes from TV might want to check our that DirectTV will give full refunds to any customer that is complaining about the disrespect to ahhhh I mean the protest!!!! Reports are of “high volume of calls” about this!!!!!!

There are a million ways to get the message out, and Jerry Jones just showed you one!!! why keep insulting when there are so many other ways to protest and get the message out!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  29. Buc1987 Says:

Direct TV is now offering subscribers to NFL Ticket a chance to get a refund if they cite “kneeling” as the reason why. Companies get it. The NFL will soon too if it keeps up. Why would Direct TV even offer this? Cause they see the train coming down tracks.

I actually HOPE they do keep doing it. This might be a wake up call to the ignorance that is. You WILL stand and not only that you’ll apologize for not doing so. Is it true that the Cowboys took a rain of boos upon them whne they locked arms? Wait until advertisers start pulling the plug….

I’m protesting black on black crime. The numbers are staggering how many blacks kill other blacks. None of that matters though. Only white cops are a the problem. Even though it’s so minor compared to blacks killing other blacks.

    Okay I’m done.

  30. Papa578 Says:

Opted out of Sunday Ticket. Selling my game tickets…exercising my rights as a consumer.

  31. 813bucboi Says:

@87….the flag is a symbol for liberty and justice for all…..not the military….navy buddy just confirmed that….

@realist….direct tv sucks….everyone has spectrum anyway….owners wont lose money….the tv contracts are already signed sealed and delivered thru the year 20whatever….STOP WITH THE FAKE NEWS!!!!….burn your tickets…who cares….the owner already have your money….burn your gear…owners already have your money….don’t renew your season tickets…GREAT!!! KAP SUPPORTERS WILL BUT THEM ALL!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  32. 813bucboi Says:

    87

sounds great….the amount of whites killing white are about equal….

and direct tv is only refunding the nfl ticket portion….you still have to pay for your services….the nfl has already cashed in on direct tv so it has no effect on them….lol…

companies losing money will force politicians to change the laws and hold officers accountable for murdering unarmed innocent black men….so attention/awareness has been brought to light…next officers will begin serving real time for murder…sounds like the mission will be accomplished….GREAT WORK KAEP AND PLAYERS!!!…WE SALUTE YOU!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  33. Grt2 Says:

Back to football. I hate to do it to a 23yr old young man but Jameis is going to have to put us on his back this year. To many injuries and not enough depth.

  34. The Buc Realist Says:

    @813bucboi

I have “cut the cable” and just have Internet, Roku and a Tv antenna!!! I have also help family members and friends setup the same setup!!!!!! Not 1 dollar from me!!!!!!!!

President Trump threw a grenade at the NFL and some players decided to pour gasoline on it!!!!!!!!!!

  35. JabooBuc Says:

87 get’s it and i still can’t believe others do not. We stand to pay respect. Period. When you kneel or sit or stretch like that a-hole McCoy, you are intentionally drawing attention to YOU. It’s two minutes to stand and honor people that paid the ultimate sacrifice so that you have the right to sit here and bitch about whatever you want.

We all understand you have the right to do it. We all understand the cause (although i would like to see data to support it). However, there are literally an infinite number of ways to draw attention to your cause. For those of you that don’t think this is any big deal, you are being incredibly disingenuous. If it doesn’t matter, why do it?

Why are you getting mad because we are mad? Isn’t that what you want?

  36. Mike Johnson Says:

I was wrong. I said Sweezy would last 6 or 7 games. He lasted 2. My bad. But Heyy, no sympathy for the Bucs. You have about 8 good teams who..plug in backups and win consistently. Your turn there Koetter. No excuses sir. Either get her done or get YOU..out!! The rsponsibility to win lies squarely on you the annoited one SIR!! WIN and we are happy. Lose? and you are the SOB’s (same ole Bucs)

  37. LakeLandBuc Says:

The ignorant thing about this protest drama, is the fact that a Draft Dodging President, called out the players. Had it been John McCain called them out I would have listen. But why on Earth should I listen to a DRAFT DODGER about PATRIOTISM? When was the last time a TRUMP served this country? HUH, no Trump family member has ever served this country. They all have used Draft Deferrals, Prestige and Political Influence to avoid military service. And none has ever join any branch of the military. This is the REAL insult to this ANTHEM and FLAG drama. We have a DRAFT DODGER as our HEAD OF STATE.

  38. Roy T. Buford Says:

    @you idiots,
A whole lot of people care about the kneeling. I’m not offended from a military perspective, but I am offended about the disgraceful action of kneeling before all Americans, particularly since the principles and ideals evoked by the national anthem have nothing to do with a few bad apples that brutalize black folks. I’m a veteran, 80% disabled, and sometimes it takes all I can muster to stand for anything, but I will say that one thing that IS right about the world today is indeed our national anthem. So that’s not the time or place to kneel or sit on your keester.

  39. Roy T. Buford Says:

Indeed Sweezy’s back issue is troubling. Once you teak that…or worse really tear it up, it’s rarely ever right again.

  40. Lord Cornelius Says:

It’s obviously a story.. that wasn’t my point. Grimes coming back is as big of a story in terms of important players to the team; yet the focus is on Sweezy – someone who still practiced regardless.

We had no idea if Grimes/Smith/Baker would play this week and now it looks like they’re fine. It’s net positive injury news spun to feel like it’s a net negative. That’s all my point was.

  41. Curse of Gruden Says:

All this, after just two games. Something is wrong at One Buc Place. The conditioning program needs a radical change.

  42. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    Bucs 13 Giant 30 next week Brady should throw 7 or 8 T.D.s it’s still a bucs life 😢😲but I still love em !

    Amen!!!!!

  44. USFBUC Says:

@Joes can we get a thread for people to debate the anthem thing so those who are here for sports can just read about sports?

I don’t know if we are more injured than other teams but man this season and last have been brutal with the injuries. I am hoping that players go if they are able but sit if there’s a question about their health. I would rather lose another game early because we rest people with nagging injuries than to lose a game late in a push for the playoffs because a key player can’t go any more.

  45. Jim Says:

I have a bad feeling Sweezy won’t last the season. He is Carl Nicks 2.0.

  46. Kobe Faker Says:

grimes is going to play well for the whole season

miko knows tampa needs him for the next 2 years. she knows no one else is going to pay top dollar for a 36/37 year old

when miko tells her boytoy to jump..grimes says how high

    “Gmc needs a miko too”

    Kobe Faker

  47. Issic Haggins Says:

Don’t sell your ticks , let them sit so there is no bodies and no food, soda and beer sales , not going doesn’t get the message sent unless the seats are empty

  48. Skipper Says:

The Russians don’t like our Democracy….
    How about you..??

  50. Ed Says:

Time has come for all of the weapons on offense to start scoring touchdowns.

Unless McCoy can consistently bring pressure on Manning and Brady w Baker inflicting damage defense cannot carry this team.

there is far more firepower and youth on offense start taking advantage of OJ Howard’s Speed power and size.

Jackson, Godwin and Howard are the fastest pass catchers. Jameis has to get the ball to them down the field while Evans, Brate and Hump run underneath

  51. Tampa2ali Says:

Like so many of his compatriots, Francis Scott Key, the wealthy American lawyer who wrote “The Star Spangled Banner” in the wake of the Battle of Fort McHenry on 14 September 1814, was a slaveholder who believed blacks to be “a distinct and inferior race of people, which all experience proves to be the greatest evil that afflicts a community.” It goes without saying that Key did not have the enslaved black population of America in mind when he penned the words “land of the free…
So if u think the ancestors of the slaves would stand and salute something that not only killed so many of our people and enslaved them.. Ur crazy…. That’s like the jews saluting And pledging a song written by Hitler… If you don’t understand that, then oh well… Go bucs and continue to fight injustice everywhere

  52. Drew Says:

    @you idiots

I care… served 2 tours of Vietnam duty, out of respect for our country, flag and national anthem. I feel kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful to all of us who fought so hard and continue to do so to insure our values as a country are upheld. Anything less than proudly standing with your hand over your heart or saluting while in uniform is unacceptable in my opinion. The NFL is one of our opportunities in life to let go of all the issues in the world, if only for a few hours. When we start to use it as a venue to politicize our views and turn it into the Neo Fascist League it’s unfair to all of us and we the fans need to stand up and say no more. This is our time, we work and pay for.
