“Mike Glennon Stinks”

September 15th, 2017

Harsh words from critic.

Prickly Pete Prisco isn’t one to hold back.

The sharply opinionated NFL typer and yakker for CBS Sports isn’t exactly a fan of Bears quarterback Mike Glennon. In a CBS Sports podcast, “Pick Six,” co-hosted by Will Brinson, Nick Kostos and Prickly Pete, the trio pick each week’s games and Prisco unloaded on Glennon. He suggested not only was his performance against the Dixie Chicks to open the season a fraud, but Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith will leave Glennon’s head spinning before the Bucs finish humbling him Sunday afternoon at the Den of Depression.

“Mike Glennon stinks,” Prisco declared. “I don’t care what he did at the end of the game last week. He is inconsistent as hell. He’s going to go back and there will be a ton of pressure on him. Mike Smith will throw a million coverages at him. He will be confused. He will throw two picks.”

While Joe is very much in the show-me mode about an edge rush when it comes to the Bucs, Joe must admit his mouth waters at the thought of “Gumby” Noah Spence going after Glennon, who is so immobile Bears teammates have to wipe the pigeon sh!t off his shoulder pads periodically throughout the game.

If Spence, which Smith wants to keep fresh to close out games, can get past the Bears offensive line, look out!

The only way Glennon can be effective is in a close game as a game manager….like last week (almost won)……He will be terrible if our offense can put some points on the board. There is no way he can come from behind being forced to pass.

Glennon is a serviceable backup….I don’t think there are many Buc fans who wouldn’t trade Fitz for him.

  2. Mike Johnson Says:

There are no easy opponents for our Bucs..None whatsoever! Any QB in the NFL only has to have..one good game to beat you on any given Sunday. And as we Bucs fans know well, we have a history of not beating teams we are suppose to beat. Glennon might not be the world best or even close to it. But All he needs is a good game..one to beat our Bucs. So don’t count them chickens fore they hatch!! Bucs had better bring it on Sunday.

  3. Jon Jegglie Says:

Lets not put this one in the win column before the game is over. Two words: Derek. Anderson.

Joe – “Glennon, who is so immobile Bears teammates have to wipe the pigeon sh!t off his shoulder pads periodically throughout the game.” I almost choked on my sandwich, Joe.

  5. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    BucUToo! Ditto! Nice, Joe, nice!

  6. Buc1987 Says:

Glennon is going to stick his “neck” out for the Bears.

  7. Kobe Faker Says:

    To the Buc Sheep…

What is our weakness. It is the short passing game and qb pressure. Slants and rb screens is our Achilles heel and then the smashing inside running

Glennon will have plenty of time because tampa cant pressure with only 4 and smitty doesnt blitz much

Glennon can only throw short passrss but he will definitely be successful running and throwing to the rbs all day

Bucs oline will be humiliated and dominateated by the bears front

Smitty is going to have to bring the saftey in because bears rb is going to run wild

Clos, close, close game…but bears will lose because they have no wrs and their stud linebacker is out

Only way we go into the playoffs is only 1 thing

Joe….I’m disappointed in you for going for the low-hanging fruit that Glennon is a big, goofy stooge. He’s faster than Winston in a straight line and just as fleet footed as the greatest stiffs of all time (Manning brothers, Brady, Marino, etc). Some of the fasted men on earth have played QB in the NFL and it hasn’t turned out well. It won’t play a factor here. If both teams execute the Bucs will win on talent. If not, Glennon is capable of leading the Bears to a victory.

  9. Blake Johnson Says:

Everyone ignore Kobe Faker. The guy has no clue what he’s talking about.

  10. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Kobe, I see a lot more 3-4 with both OLBs rushing on 3rd downs. Glennon will piss his pants.

Stop! So you’d take Glennon over Jameis as far as dodging a pass rush? You know Jameis is one of the better quarterbacks in the league at being elusive, right? You don’t remember last year’s Bears game? You think Glennon could have pulled that off?

Mannings, Marino, Brady had/have ridiculous quick releases. Besides, Marino was very nimble in the pocket.

C’mon, now. Isn’t it a little too early on a Friday to be hitting the bottle?

  12. thespiritof76 Says:

    @ Jon Jegglie:

Austin Davis, Geno Smith, a 41 year old Vinny Testaverde, Kellen Clemens, Case Keenum.

Hell, even Randy Fasani nearly beat the Bucs during the 2002 season. If it wasn’t for Martin Gramatica we would have lost to Randy Freaking Fasani!

  13. thespiritof76 Says:

While Glennon is not great (and is really about border line good on occasion) he isn’t exactly a chump either. He is more mobile than many give him credit for and he doesn’t make a lot of mistakes.

He is a low reward though low risk passer. Very much like a Tim Rattay type player. Smart. Makes nice choices. Probably has a decent future as a coach one day.

  14. Tom Edrington Says:

This headline is why sooner than later Mitch Trubisky will be the starter, hopefully he doesn’t play on Sunday, the kid is good!

  15. Blake Johnson Says:

    @TheSpiritof76

Glennon is Checkdown Charley who occasionally makes a decent play here and there. He has made exactly one exceptionally good play in his entire career, which was the rollout throw to Vincent Jackson in 2014.

Everything else he’s done in his career has been slightly below average to terrible. And he has got to be the most easily sacked starter in the league.

  16. Bobby M. Says:

I dont think anyone knows exactly what Glennon is because his resume has 3 offensive coordinators in 5 yrs in the league.

There was a time when Alex Smith was a bust when he too had 3 different coordinators in his first 5 yrs. Since joining the Chiefs and having stability in an offense….Smith looks as capable as anyone.

  17. Blake Johnson Says:

    @Bobby M.

I don’t think anyone has ever called Alex Smith a Bust. His main problem was that he was the QB drafted ahead of Aaron Rodgers. He was reasonably successful in SF, and is a top 16 QB in the league. Some people criticize him for being mostly a game manager with lackluster arm strength, but I don’t think anyone has called him an outright bust.

Glennon on the other hand, is just a slightly better than average back-up QB.

  18. DB55 Says:

Last night JJ Watt mentioned that one of the reasons they lost week one to Jacksonville was that they were too hyped up as a team. With everything going on in Houston that week and their desire to win the game for the people of Houston they thought they could “win the game on the first play”.

Made me think if Tampa will come out the same way and suffer a similar consequence?

There are a few things working against the Bucs this week to say the least luckily they have The Messiah leading the team. I just hope they win, if Glennon comes home to beat the Bucs that may weigh heavily on the minds on the players for who knows how long.

  19. Smokeymountainbucsfan Says:

GLENNON is not coming home to beat the Bucs! He won’t even finish the game. If he doesn’t get pulled first he very well may be spending the night @ St. Joesphs up the road.

  20. Smokeymountainbucsfan Says:

Kobe Faker what the heck are you talking about man? Maybe your ADHD kicked in and you skipped over the point you was trying to make? I know there’s trolls all over,I get it. Then we have so called Buc fans but my God so many people on here are so friggin negative or don’t have faith in the 2017 Bucs.. I don’t know. Then there’s Mike Johnson? Dude what’s up your a$$ man? Never have anything positive to say!

  21. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I am 46 and have been watching football my entire life. Glennon honestly has the worst pocket awareness and mobility I have ever seen on an NFL field. This is not an exaggeration and the pidgeon sh!t comment actually seems spot on. He honestly looks like an injured baby giraffe trying to play QB. He can throw a decent 5 yard slant pass but everything else is god awful, especially when he has to move around.

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

I totally agree with Tom E. Tribisky will start for the Bears soon. Probably before mid season. I think the kids got what it takes to be a winner in this league.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

I love Pete Prisco but disagree with him here – Mike Glennon doesn’t stink, he’s just an extremely average game manager. I did not see the full game as I didn’t have power until late Monday, but I saw that Glennon had 2 game winning TDs dropped on him – they looked like perfect passes that would have given them the W. I didn’t see the rest of the game but any talk about checks down – well who exactly is Glennon throwing to at WR? Glennon doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and is a very boring QB, his ceiling (he’s not there yet) is Brad Johnson – in fact that might be the best comparison you can make for him.

As for Glennon being completely awful – if he was the Bucs wouldn’t have wanted to make him the highest paid backup in the game and the Bears wouldn’t have given him $15-mil/year. It’s not a hot original take to say Glennon isn’t awful – he’s just not any good.

  24. Wausa Says:

    TampaBay Buc Fan is correct.

Glennon neads a low scoring game to be able to have a chance at beating the Bucs.

Maybe I am drinking too much Kool Aid, but I just think the Bucs have such an enormous edge in talent that they should win this game handily unless they start turning the ball over.

  25. Joe Says:

I almost choked on my sandwich, Joe.

    🙂

  26. Roy T. Buford Says:

Meanwhile, or analysts are saying Glennon knows the Bucs D inside-out. I can’t help but think Mike Smith spent last weekend (at work, as covered by Joe) figuring how to confuse Glennon. Boy, they really need that edge rush this week.

  27. Kobe Faker Says:

This game is absolutely perfect to how we have come from last year.

    RUN DEFENSE

Smitty defense relies on shutting down the run and make the team 1 dimensional. Stop the run and defend the pass on 3rd and force them to punt

We will clearly see if licht addressed this problem in game #1. Chicago is going to run run run and happily punt for field position. They believe If they grind and make it ugly and close in the 4th quarter, they believe jameis will press and turn the ball over…which leads to

    JAMEIS OVERALL DEVELOPMENT

jameis patience will be tested. They will cover over top and jameis will have to throw underneath because they will be waiting for him if he gets greedy

We will all see if our team is playoff ready in less than 2 days

  28. Semen holes suck! Says:

I really dont understand all the Glennon hate. The guy almost beat the defending NFC champs with chumps for WR’S. You know the same excuse you people gave for every game Winston played poorly in in. Quite the double standard if you ask me. If he had half the arsenal Jameis had they would have won or if the garbage pass catchers he threw to would have caught the ball they win. Jameis gets a pass by blaming his miscues on ME13 having butter fingers while ignoring the fact that his passes are often 3 ft overthrown. Jameis doesnt suck and neither does Glennon. If only Glennon was half the rah rah cheerleader or even better a former Semenhole he would never be disrespected as he is now. Show a little bit of class people…..smh

  29. Rod Munch Says:

I just went back and watch the full condensed game and Glennon played fairly well – he didn’t make any mistakes and absolutely got better as the game went along. Down by 10 in the 4th quarter he lead them on a touchdown drive then turned around, down by 6, lead them on another touchdown drive and he threw two perfectly catchable balls that should have won the game for them. Glennon checked down a lot but he has guys that wouldn’t make the Bucs practice team to throw to at WR. The Glennon hate is nonsense, he didn’t play poorly at all in that game and actually looked quite competent.

Also what I took from that game is how good Cohen is – man is he a good looking RB that can catch the ball. Luckily I knew about him from the preseason and took him in several fantasy leagues – that guy is going to be a monster in PPR leagues so long as Chicago has nothing at WR.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

Semen holes suck! …have some class? Glennon-hate? Where’s this “hate” that you see? I see an idiot making up something out of nothing. Who on this thread is showing Glennon hate? I see Seminole hate. I see ignorance.

Dayum it Joe. I’m trying reeeal hard to be nice. 🙂

    Good Night.
