Jameis Was A Big Lure For Ward

September 4th, 2017

Drawing power.

Isn’t it nice to have a franchise quarterback NFL studs want to play both with and for?

That was the case with DeSean Jackson and it is the case with T.J. Ward.

The new Bucs safety, a three-time Pro Bowler, made his first appearance at One Buc Palace this afternoon and made it clear that America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, is a huge reason why he chose to play for the Bucs after he was released by the Broncos Saturday.

Ward talked about how he thought the locker room in Tampa Bay was just the right mix of veterans and young players but then added Jameis was a critical factor in the decision.

“His leadership and his ability out there on the field,” Ward noted of Jameis’ attributes that got Ward’s attention. “Playing against him last year, he really impressed me.”

Now this shocked Joe when Ward said this. Jameis may have had his worst game in the NFL against the Broncos. He was humiliated into two interceptions and a fumble while only throwing for 179 yards in a 27-7 beatdown.

So Joe asked Ward, how he and his Broncos defense suffocated Jameis and how he was able to impress Ward with such an awful game.

“He just kept his team fired up the whole game,” Ward said. “He made plays when we thought we had him and [thought] we were off the field and he comes up with a first down.

“[Jameis] was a young player last year. We were a veteran defense. The best in the league, or one of the best against the pass – the best against the pass.

“Sometimes you see quarterbacks tank if the game is over or things are going their way. He kept that energy throughout the game, kept trying to win. Even after that hour-and-a-half [rain delay] he was that same dude. That is what you want to see in your leader. That’s what you want to see in your quarterback.”

Joe never thought about what Ward said but he is right. Jameis was still a young quarterback. The Broncos game last year was only Jameis’ 20th NFL game. That’s very young.

So Bucs fans, how does it feel to have a franchise quarterback that top shelf players actually want to come to Tampa Bay and play with? When is the last time that happened, if ever?

So the next time you want to whine about how Jameis overthrows/underthrows players or is inaccurate in the deep ball or short pass, just think where this team would be without his will to succeed and without Jackson and Ward and who knows who else in the future?

NFL players, by and large, love America. Thus, they want to play with America. And the Bucs are much better off for it.

A starting receiver on an NFL team a few months ago said he thinks practically every receiver in the NFL wants to play with Jameis’

He may have just been joking somewhat when he said ‘when my contract is up I’ll be playing with Jameis in Tampa”

If you recall in that game Jameis had a big pass to I believe Evans late in the game on a 3rd and long and down by two scores in the 4th, then on 4th down Dirk punt the ball instead of going for it despite there was zero reason not to go for it. In that game it wasn’t Winston that quit, he played until the end, it was Dirk that quit. Post game when asked why he didn’t go for it Dirk said the offense didn’t have a chance to the get the first down and the game was over — but the play before that Winston just had a big pass to Winston. Dirk last year quit in this game, threw a hissy fit in the Carolina game and even in the final 2 min drill wasn’t going to let Winston throw, he wanted to run the ball and go to OT. Also Dirk didn’t know how timeouts worked in the Rams game – and his lack of coaching in that game cost them the game since Winston had the ball at the 4 yard line as the clock expired – and the team had one or two TO’s still left.

Anywho in that Denver game the INT they always show is that one to Talib – but man watch the film of that play. Winston didn’t make a bad pass there, he was lulled into the pass and then Talib made an amazing play to recover so quickly – it was nearly what Ronde would do to McNabb over and over again, just Talib wasn’t at the LOS doing it. It was a great play by Talib and sure Winston threw the ball, but to use that as an example of being careless with the ball is not a good example. The other INT I don’t remember, but I do know both Andrew Luck and Dalton both had very similar games against the Broncos in the prior 2 weeks. They were an exceptional defense, hopefully that rubs off on the Bucs for more than a 6 week strech.

One of the best first pressers I’ve ever seen.

    Great addition!

I HAVE SAID THIS IN MY PRIOR BLOGS . WE ARE A TEAM WITH TALENT, HOWEVER OUR COACHING STAFF AND GENERAL MANAGER STILL HAVE TO PROVE THEMSELVES. JASON LICHT DID NOT DRAFT WELL IN THE LAST DRAFT OJ HOWARD FELL TO THE BUCS , WE STILL NEED A DEFENSIVE END WHO CAN RUSH THE PASSER AND DEFEND THE RUN. WE STILL NEED A BREAKAWAY RUNNING BACK, A BACK WITH SPEED AND POWER.WE SHALL SEE IF THERE IS A NEED FOR A CORNER BACK . THINKING POSITIVELY , OUR FIRST TEAM OFFENSE AND DEFENSE , INCLUDING SPECIAL TEAM PLAYERS ARE ADEQUATE ENOUGH TO GET TO THE PLAYOFFS. AS WE ALL KNOW ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN .

^ You should try using more capital letters next post… It was far too easy to read this time around.

Glad to hear players are now wanting to come to Tampa Bay that definitely wasn’t the case a few years back. I remember players turning down the Bucs and signing for less money elsewhere.

On a different note if you thought Jameis had the worse game of his pro career against Denver’s defense you should’ve seen what they did to Mariota. I think he had about 86 yards passing against them the whole game.
