Gerald McCoy Channels Bill Sheridan, Invites Insulting Fans To Meet Him At One Buc Palace

Issues a challenge to hateful fans
Once a upon a time a Buccaneers defensive coordinator was dumb enough to complain publicly because fans were “chirping” about the usage of Darrelle Revis.
And he invited them to join him to craft a gameplan.
Joe’s talking about the lead defensive puppet of the New Schiano Order, Bill Sheridan. Who could forget Sheridan calling out disgruntled fans to come help him at 5:20 a.m. at One Buc Palace?
Yes, fans showed up. It was a bad look. Not as bad as Lovie Smith and Jason Licht cutting Revis in his prime the following season, but it was ugly nonetheless.
Fast forward to today and Tampa Bay Times beat writer Greg Auman’s chat with Gerald McCoy. No. 93 says he’s very annoyed by the personal attacks he sees on social media directed at him and his teammates.
McCoy is so pissed he wants the unsupportive fans to show up at One Buc Palace and talk to him face to face instead of hiding behind their Internet courage.
“If you’ve got something to say, let’s just talk about it. It’s not a threat. … I get so frustrated with it. It’s not a threat to anybody. The disrespect has to stop. If you’re frustrated, that’s fine, but disrespecting us, then you’re crossing the line. It’s no longer football. Now you’re disrespecting us as men. You calling me out my name over a football game? A football game? You serious? It’s one game. One. We have 14 more! One game, and you’re going to [be] disrespecting us like that?”
McCoy again extended the invitation to fans who are upset and want to talk to him to better understand what went wrong Sunday.
“I’ll never put my hands on anybody. This is not a threat. But you know where I work,” he said. “There’s a front desk. Knock on the door. ‘I want to talk to Gerald about the game yesterday.’ I will see you out there. We can hold court.”

Sorry, Gerald. Grow thicker skin or turn off your social media. Simple as that.
Pretend you’re Warren Sapp circa 2001, with no access to fans other than the ones right in front of your face.
Loads of these fans cough up their cash for games and they have every right to boo and hiss and be rude. If someone crosses a line, then call the police or alert team security. Sadly, emboldened social media haters are part of life — a very crappy one — in 2017.
Inviting bitter fans to One Buc Palace is a distraction, potentially a toxic situation, and something the team and the organization don’t need.

I don’t have an issue with McCoy… he stood for the national anthem regardless of how he felt about the situation. I respect that. I just wish he didn’t get hurt so early in the season every year. Get the injury out of the way in the preseason.

Can’t believe all the fair weather fans on here. We had multiple chances to come back and interseptions killed us. We were down 5 starters on defense alone. No DM on offense and we are still tied for 2 nd in the league. Only Atlanta and The Chiefs are undefeated. Disagree with the play called yesterday for sure. Where was Peyton Barber? Hopefully we can get some guys healthy soon. Good luck bucs😀😀

I agree Joe.
Gerald is an outstanding football player but he should not take things personally when it comes to fans calling him or the team for poor play. Especially after the entire Bucs defense was destroyed by a back up QB.
The Bucs have one sack this year. I would say it’s fairly obvious the defensive line is playing awful.
Do something about the lack of pressure and sacks Mr. McCoy and quit worrying about foolish comments on social media.

Joe – I am sure GMC is frustrated after yesterday’s game – we all are. But confronting disgruntled fans does no good. GMC gets the blame and the criticism because he is the team leader. And I am willing to guess that the number of disgruntled fans are a small minority of all of us out here.
Tell GMC I’ll have my number 93 jersey on Sunday PM. Also tell him, after a sack, look up at row 211 on the west side – I’m the guy screaming GO BUCS!!!!!!.

I have no issue with McCoy or the players, I have an issue with the defensive scheme, how theses db’s are being coached to play and how blame all falls on the pass rush. I can count on both hands how many times our D lineman were SOOOOO close to a sack, but there was always someone open…..ALWAYS someone to launch to downfield. Wr’s running the same plays against them all day. I don’t expect Dirk Koetter to admit it publicly, but Mike Smith can’t generate a top tier defense….or even a half of one. This is Lovie Smith 2.0…..same defense he had when he was in Atlanta (even though he wasn’t the DC….that was his defense.)
Jameis can win almost any game, but when you hang him out to dry he and al most any other QB are forced to take unnecessary risks. I don’t blame Gerald one bit.

I tend to agree with Joe that it’s not a good idea for players to engage fans directly….but I also understand GMC’s frustration….and I am only aware of what is said here on JBF about him. That is monitored and I’m sure a watered down version of what he gets elsewhere.
As far as what he gets here…..It’s so misguided and ignorant…repetitive and laughably obtuse that it is irrelevant.

Solid position Joe … Bravo. I always stick up for GMC because he’s an excellent DT & class guy, but he’s wrong here. A-N-Y-O-N-E who’s in the public eye is gonna get negatively critiqued once in awhile (sometimes often actually). Best way to shut people up is with dominating performances. GMC played lights out I thought in Game 1, even though he only played 40 snaps (62%) & had 2 tackles (including assists). In Game 2 yesterday he was on the field for 63 snaps (85%) & had 4 tackles (including assists). Same 60 mins but he played over one-and-a-half times as many defensive snaps. Sorry, but Vikings keeping the ball for almost 38 mins TOP was a killer … defense staying on the field that much almost insures more injuries.

I don’t really get the Ryan Smith hate, first game as a starter as an NFL CB glinting against S. Diggs who completely demolished whoever their week one opponent was. Is he being coached to play off the ball, because when he played up on the receiver, the only way the receiver caught the ball was a push off.
On the other hand, our first round pick from the Gators has not shown up at all. I got a feeling Eli and company will go after VHIII really hard on Sunday.

I think his point, in a not so direct way, is to STFU if you aren’t putting the pads on and hittin someone for the Bucs. It’s easy to MMQB sittin behind a keyboard. But, fans, disgruntled ones at that, are a part of sports. Yea we don’t play and if we did we’d get maimed, but we expect if you’re wearin big boy pants then you better play like one. So, I get his point, but he does need to grow a pair and stop looking weak. Fans and Social Media should be the last thing on this team’s plate right now.
Many athletes put their social media accounts on pause during the playoffs or whatever. If it’s trippin him out in Week 3, he just needs to shut it down permanently.
But for the melodramatic fans, grow a pair too. They will fix the problems just like they did last year. I just hate regressing and being in perpetual fixing mode, but that happens with non-elite teams. But, I won’t question the draft, because if the pick in the 2nd was different, we may be looking at a totally different Rd. 3 as well. Let’s move forward already and stop looking back.

McCoy is the 100 million dollar face of the franchise and because of that he will be subject to both glory and criticism. His history of being injured has not helped his stance. Every employee is judged by his performance according to how much he makes. Hopefully 93 understands most fans will never know or understand that kind of money but expectations are high for everyone of that stature.

Good points Roy T. McCoy should direct his anger towards the Giant OL next Sunday instead of ranting at some so called fans hiding behind a keyboard. Plus I hope Gerald realizes that about 90% of the hate directed at him is by less than 1% of the fan base, guys like the now missing TMax and a few others who likely post under multiple aliases….. The whole team took a bye last Sunday and got banged up to boot but look the Giants are 0-3 and are in turmoil as well. McCoy and the boys simply need to man up and play smart football for 60 minutes and Stick Carrier Koetter has to set up a better game plan; what I saw on Sunday is something you’d expect from Lovie as far as preparation and adjustments, sloppy from Licht down to the waterboy…..

GMC and his bye-week band turning in a turd of a game makes me mad for a week. The team, including the owners, turning in a turd BEFORE the game during the anthem makes me mad for good. If these guys put half the amount of effort into the game as they did into the protests before the game, they would have blown out the Vikings. Now, the trip to Minneapolis costs me 4 grand. I flew to Phoenix last year and watched them suck for four quarters. That costs me 5 grand. Yeah, we whoop it up. Could have done it cheaper. But I’m good with all of that. I supported my team, and I’d still love to. Yeah both losses stung like nest of hornets, but thats the game. I get it. It’s okay being other folks stadium wearing Bucs colors and losing, and they tell you after, “Sorry, but hey, give us a break, we don’t see a lot of wins here.” I appreciate that. But kneel during the anthem and act all p.o.’d and protest in the wrong venue after I flew up to watch your sorry azzes, and you screwed up, cuz. I especially don’t like Vikings fans next to me seeing the unpatriotic display commenting there is no place for that, and I have to agree, embarassed for the Glazers Red and Pewter. So folks, no kidding, my tickets for the Giants game are up for sale. I figure some fre-spirit New Yorker who burns U.S. flags for a living will enjoy the Mike Evans kneeldown show. When the owners grow a pair and tell their players they WILL respect the observance of the national anthem, I’ll be back. Until then, the Giants fans, and maybe the Patriots fans, sitting in my West Club seats are wearing away team Jerseys with the names “Glazer” and “Evans” sewn on the backs. I already emailed some fans around me, saying “Sorry, I won’t be there, hate to subject you to away team fans, but I can’t support this team right now.” Well, the reply email: “No worries…we won’t be there either. For the same reason.”

Gerald either knows, or should know, you don’t “knock on the door” and they don’t let you talk to the players. There’s a great lobby with Bucs artifacts, and electronic locks to get anywhere. The receptionists are great, and they have all the decision authority of a doorbell. They will look at you like you have three heads, and then tell you, “Sorry, I can’t put you in touch with Mr. McCoy.” Will the Bucs come out with any correcting comments to this BS, or will they offer the same BS they did about support to the pre-game disrespect?

I went to training camp a few times and every time Gerald McCoy stepped on the field most everyone cheered. Not one person booed. Yet, I know there were McCoy haters there.

I for one would love the chance to sit down with McCoy or anyone from the Bucs’ defense or offense for that matter, but not to berate them for anything or get all up in his face.
Hell, none of us have a right, whether we buy tickets or just watch on TV, to berate the Bucs for anything. Most certainly we have no right to berate McCoy, because he’s a man and player who left the game on a tender ankle, took a blow to recover, came back and kept playing until he reinjured the ankle and was forced out again. Nope, McCoy gave his all in the Minnesota game.
Personally, I would love the chance, time permitting, because these men are busy, to meet up with McCoy or any of the players at OneBuc and get their analysis of what went wrong and what went right while watching the film with them. A deeper analysis than the coach or player speak we get in media interviews
For example, we know against the Bears McCoy was getting his usual double team while Chris Baker was getting the same treatment, freeing our linebackers to run wild with little or no opposition. How did Baker’s absence due to illness influence our play in the center of the d-line and trickle down to the rest of our defensive performance?
This is the kind of stuff I would like to hear from the players themselves instead of the usual coach/player speak or the bashing from fans.

Of black homicide victims, only 4% are killed in police interactions while 89.3% are killed by other blacks. Maybe these athletes would be better served by shining a light on the absurdity of our people killing their own?

There are bad barbers in the world, bad soldiers, bad cops, bad football players, etc, the cops are not robots….its not difficult if a cop asks you to comply do it, 99% of all police officers want to go home to their families in one piece. There isn’t a cop out there thinking I am going to kill someone today. 20% of all police shootings have been when the person shot has had a known mental illness the rest this year is unknown. Only 32 police shootings this year were unarmed so, again….the main thing to get is that there needs to be an open honest dialogue between the so called leaders in this nation. This dialogue will never happen because there are too many ppl that allow this to continue in US society are going to lose money, there is an entire political party that thrives on keeping huge segments of the population in their same station and would lose out on money and votes if that ever changed

Realist, you can’t disrespect a flag. Because it’s an embroidered piece of cloth and has no feelings. It is however a symbol. And the symbol deserves respect. The First Amendment says that the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because Society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable. The way to preserve the flags special role is not to punish those who feel differently about these matters. It is to persuade them that they are wrong. William Brennan wrote that in his majority opinion in 1989. Persuasion is much different than what I see taking place. But it’s what needs to be done.
