Fumble Machine

September 17th, 2017

“Gumby” is dangerous.

Bucs defensive end/outside linebacker Noah Spence may not yet be known as a sackmeister, which is what the Bucs terribly need from an edge rusher, but he has become something perhaps more important.

Gumby” is becoming a fumble-making machine.

When Spence buried Bears quarterback Mike Glennon in the first half, he also forced a fumble, which was recovered by Lavonte David.

Per Bucs media relations, Spence has almost as many forced fumbles as he does sacks. The sack of Glennon gave Spence 6.5 sacks in his still-young career. The forced fumble was Spence’s fourth in his still-young career. For perspective, Gerald McCoy only has six in seven seasons. Robert Ayers has seven forced fumbles in eight years and 108 games.

Hey, if Spence can only get eight sacks this year but forces, say, six fumbles, Joe will take that.

He’s ahead of schedule for double digit sacks. A sack a game is 16!!! If he has a big game and gets multiple sacks he doesn’t even need a sack a game.

    Spence will be fine.

  5. Tom Edrington Says:

Nice work by d-line with exception of Swaggy, who had ZERO tackles, ZERO assists….of course, did anyone expect different?

    SPAWN!!!!!!

  7. Pickgrin Says:

SPAWN – not Gumby. Gumby is lame. Spawn sounds badass

  8. Conte Piscateli Says:

Did swaggy get pushed around? We’re there gaping holes in our D-Link for the bears to run through? Unless I saw a very different game, swaggy did his job. I also saw him pushing linemen into Glennons lap a couple times. The nature of the position doesn’t lead to making plays but rather holding the line and allowing linebackers to run to the ball. Swaggy did fine. Next you all will be saying “Why doesn’t swaggy have any pics?” Get a damn clue.

  9. gilhealy Says:

Swaggy did what he’s paid to do. They had 20 yds rushing. It’s not a requirement to follow the Joe’s lead on Baker. Think for yourselves. Watch his presence on the line. He and McCoy with Gholston will be hell for a lot of teams.

  10. Buc Fan in NC Says:

I agree gilhealy. Swaggy clogs running lanes and lets linebackers run to the ball.

  11. Rrsrq Says:

Swaggy balled, Ward balled, Beckwith balled and McClain balled. All newcomers to the defense did their job, don’t know what game you were watching if you didn’t see Swaggy with the push, the other linemen were just quicker to get to the ball carrier

  12. JimBuc2 Says:

Swaggy one trick pony. How bout crushing someone, like say the QB, maybe a RB. Standing someone up at the LOS is fine, but we paid big bucks. I want to see BIG results, like hurt someone besides making love to a palm tree.

    @JimBuc2

5 mil a season is FAR from big bucks.

A nose tackle’s main priority is to plug holes.

We allowed 20 yards against one of the better running teams in the league.

People like you, Tom Edrington, Dewey Selmon, and any other’s who just blindly hate on Chris Baker are literal jokes.

So where is Jac Smith going to play when he comes back, opposite Spence?

  15. Etzel Says:

If it wasn’t for the picture, I would’ve thought this article was about Charles Sims… Sorry but this is not the first time he’s given the ball up at an inopportune moment. Don’t think we should resign him. Give his touches to Barber.

Etzel – took the words right out of my mouth

  17. MUVLODGE Says:

The run stat 20 yds proves Bakers worth. Stopping the run is a team thing. Everybody on that DL has to do their job or else it doesn’t work. It was his 1st game. Give the guy a chance. He can actually rush the QB pretty good for a big guy so lets just wait & see then grade him out. He did his job in this game.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Such a good first game.

  19. TeddyTB Says:

Yeah I’ve had enough of Charles Sims. He’s just not a winner I could try to go into detail on why not but it seems unnecessary. If Doug was playing it might’ve been a 40+ point win.

Enough worshipping of dumb nicknames. Spawn is a freaking comic book character. There’s nothing badass about being named after a comic book character that totally flopped on the big screen.

Things I’m sure of after the game:

    * Charles Sims is a better break-dancer than running back and should never see the field. North – South man, North – South. Stop tap dancing.

    * The shut-out is on VHIII’s head. If he doesn’t drop that EASY pick, they don’t score.

    * T.J. Ward is just what the doctor ordered! Great pick up!

    * Kendall Beckwith is legit… GREAT value in the 3rd Round. Will be around for a long time.

    * Jameis still needs to work on his long ball. Everything else looked good.

    * O.J. Howard was blocking DEs one-on-one! What a stud!

    * If Doug Martin comes back looking like the Douggernaut and not the Drug-or-not (or we trade for Shady McCoy) we will go deep into the playoffs.

    GO BUCS!!!
