Bears Walking Right Into A Trap

September 16th, 2017

Phil Simms explains.

There couldn’t be a worse foe for the Bears to face than the Bucs.

That’s the word from Super Bowl-winning quarterback Phil Simms. In his weekly spot with the one and only Chris “Mad Dog” Russo heard on SiriusXM “Mad Dog Radio,” Simms said the Bears have a very ugly match-up against Tampa Bay. To be clear, Simms believes the weakest element of the Bears is facing the strength of the Bucs.

With targets like Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Cam Brate and O.J. Howard and a quarterback like America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, the Bucs should have a deep passing game few teams in the NFL can boast.

And the weakest link of the Bears? Simms believes it is the secondary.

In other words, look out.

“[The Bears’] problem, going into this week, going down to Tampa, is that Tampa is a downfield-throwing football team,” Simms said. “And I think that is the biggest weakness the Chicago Bears have. If you can get the ball in the air downfield, a long way, you can get a lot of good matchups against their defense.”

And few teams have deep-field threats like the Bucs, or a gunslinger of a quarterback who likes to rifle the ball downfield.

If Simms is right, this ought to be fun tomorrow.

Smart man that Phil Sims. Look man their are probably only 3 or 4 defenses in the entire league constructed to somewhat deal with this offensive assault.. Da bears ain’t one of’em.

  2. Blake Johnson Says:

Said it yesterday, I’ll say it again. I fully expect DJax to catch 2 50+ Yard bombs for Td’s tomorrow.

I find it so laughable that some people are so mentally scarred from this past decade that they still can’t tell the forest from the trees.

    Bucs win 31-17

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

It’s not that Blake, I don’t listen to talk and hype. You have to show me before you get my nod of approval.

  4. Cobraboy Says:

Not only will DJax burn the Bears, he will scare the crap out of the Vikes DC and have the Vikes doubling DJax…with Evans having a career day up north.

IMO: the only real way to slow the Bucs passing game down is to get to Winston.

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

Blake is so scarred from the past he has no confidence in our defense. 17 points!!! A real fan would predict 38-3, get outta the forest! GO BUCS!!!

  6. Blake Johnson Says:

Ok, I’m not serving up talk and hype. I’m looking at it solely from the additions we have made to our roster. If we went 9-7 with the schlock we had at receiver, and the sorry performance of our O-line last year (#1 in the league in runs stuffed behind the LOS) with an Injured Joe Hawley starting at Center..

Based strictly on the downfield weapons we have added, and the added size/ physicality to our O-line, this current team is vastly superior from a talent standpoint. Add in Jameis’ 3rd year as a pro, and you are looking at the potential of a truly special season.

And I say 17 points because the bears do have a decent O-line and 2 really good Running backs. I was one of very few on this site hyping up Tarik Cohen. And we are bound to have at least one turnover/ defensive breakdown that gives the bears an easy 7 points. That’s just based on the nature of Jameis/ accumulated rust.

But I fully expect us to dominate tomorrow.

  7. stpetebucsfan Says:

AGAIN…if our OL plays up to their potential this game will get very ugly for the Bears!

  8. Blake Johnson Says:

Oh and I forgot to mention Garbage time Glennon. When the game is already lost for him, is always good for a meaningless touchdown near the end of 4th.

  9. holymoly13 Says:

First play from scrimmage, GO DEEP ! Can’t wait.

  10. Kobe Faker Says:

To beat the deep passing offense is to attack the QB.

Licht beer has given Koetter OJ, Godwin and Sims who can RAC and strive in the short passing game to assist Jameis when the blitz and pressure comes

Koetter last year chose to run Sims between the tackles where he got hurt instead of using his receiving skillset

Looks like Koetter is going to make OJ a beastly Luke Stocker 2.0 and Godwin the next Russel Shepard special teams leader

our 2017 offense is going to look very similar to 2016 version

“I really hope Koetter reads Kobe Fakers posts”

    Kobe Faker

  11. Blake Johnson Says:

Kobe what are you even still doing here? Literally no one cares about a word you say. We all know you don’t know anything.

  12. Jim Says:

Shout out to those 12,000 without power in Bradford and Alachua county! The Santa Fe River is now at 35 Feet, a 100 year record flood. Stay strong guys. We we all miss the game but we’re with you in spirit Bucs!

  13. NOSBOS Says:

A man Y’all better listen to Blake.

  14. DoNUTS Says:

JW3 has been a slow starter so far in his NFL career. I’m hopeful the new targets mean that he will be changing in this area but it wont surprise me to see more of the same in week 1. This game will come down to the DEF.

  15. AlteredEgo Says:

I hope Jameis play like Brad….the Super Bowl winning Brad Johnson

  16. NOSBOS Says:

Ain’t been a slow starter this pre season. Some of y’all could use a drink. Go get ya self some Bacardi… Rum. What a Buccaneer would drink.

  17. NOSBOS Says:

“game will come to defense” against a team we spank 36/10 last season. Yea right.

  18. NOSBOS Says:

Game will come down to defense if Mike Singletary Richard Dent Leonard Marshall Steve McMichael are coming back. If not you can forget that silly notion homeboy.

  19. Pickgrin Says:

We shall see. If The Buccaneers show up to play and there is little visible “rust”- it shouldn’t be that close of a game. Tampa Bay’s roster is clearly superior to da Bears talent wise.

    GO BUCS!!

  20. NOSBOS Says:

It’s clearly superior to theirs. But I understand your angst nfl,I mean you feel pitt and ne are notch above the rest of the league. Not hardly.

  21. NOSBOS Says:

And let me say it one more time before tomorrow. aints over pats in the Nolia.

  22. Max Says:

24-13 with a defensive touchdown. Go bucs!

  23. Greg Says:

31-14 Bucs and unless you back it up financially, picking games and scores is meaningless

  24. Bobby M. Says:

Bucs biggest obstacle will be Jameis….He has to get it going early and not put our defense in terrible positions.

  25. NOSBOS Says:

    Bobby M. f@$# boi president.

  26. James Walker Says:

I wish I could see the game. 40MPH winds took out 900,000 peoples electricity in central Florida. No FEMA, no Red Cross, shelters are closed, and thousand of us are suffering. My 7 year old daughter ate a raw potato for dinner. Enjoy the game tomorrow…because your “fellow stick carriers” won’t be seeing it. Just keep keep giving your money to “Lou” and the other “entitled” people while we starve without food, water, electricity, gas, or any shelter….Enjoy the game.

  27. James Walker Says:

All of you are free to come and sleep in my bathroom where the toilet hasn’t been flushed since Wednesday.

  28. Bob the buc Says:

    James,
I’m Sorry your in a bad situation but the fact that your daughter ate a raw potato is your fault, not Lou’s or the stick carriers.

On another note, we’re gonna stomp the bears. Seriously is this even a question????

  29. Blake Johnson Says:

On a a completely un-bucs related note, Boxing is such a joke. GGG was straight up robbed. Adalaide Byrd should never judge another fight in her life.

  30. DB55 Says:

    ‘Twas the night before Christmas

  31. James Walker Says:

    @Bob the buc

Want to meet up? I would love to talk to you man to man.

  32. FortMyersDave Says:

I thought Simms said the Bucs would come out rusty???? Anyhow, I do hope that Jameis exploits that matchup and hits D Jax and Evans with a few bombs!

  33. DoNUTS Says:

    NOSBOS

You lose all credibility when you pick the Aints over the super bowl winning Pats. In addition, when you compare preseason to regular season NFL is telling as there is no comparison.

JW3 has traditionally started slow…both college and NFL….sorry it doesn’t mesh with your garnet n gold filtered vision of JW. I work in reality of what actually occurs on the field.
