Kicking Battle Down To Sportswriters?
August 18th, 2017Even if winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter tried to hide his frustration with his kickers and their failure to kick a friggin’ extra point, any happy face he may have tried to hide behind was lost with one word.
When asked after Thursday night’s game at Jacksonville if the kicking game had yet to meet his standards, he let out a direct, “Nope.”
How frustrated is Koetter with the kicking game, he offered the battle for the 2017 Bucs kicker position may come down to two free agent kickers. The candidates? Koetter said they areĀ Tampa Bay Times reporters Rick Stroud and Greg Auman.
Yes, that’s how low a coach will get when he just ran a second round pick of a kicker who couldn’t kick a friggin’ extra point, and then saw his de facto kicker Nick Folk miss a friggin’ extra point and a 47 yard field goal.
Koetter did add that he isn’t so much concerned how Folk kicks on Aug. 17 but how he kicks on Sept. 10.

While it wasn’t good to see that, I urge everyone not to overreact. Folk is a proven kicker after years in NY and he won’t let a miss or 2 stick in his head the way Aguayo did. That being said, I wouldn’t mind investing a LATE round pick into a kicker next draft. Go Bucs

Maybe it wasn’t Agauyo at all. Maybe it was the coaching, maybe it was the holder. Quick to play the blame game is Tampa

I say they need to fire the special teams coach. I have no idea if he’s good or bad, but that lame boring construction speech he was giving on Hard Knocks, that should be a fireable offense to be that big of a hack. I still wonder if Roberto tanked himself because those special teams meetings were so incredibly boring and awful to attend he’d rather be unemployed than to sit through any more. Could be wrong – but I think it’s 50/50.

lol yea cause Aguayo didn’t constantly pull his kicks…
Also the line allowed a block, Folk did not outright miss a PAT like Aguayo.

Joe I brought this up before…. This holder has history of kicker killing. Look it up.

The first miss was actually a block by Jacksonville on that extra point if anyone saw it, not the kickers fault. The missed field goal, well?? i know for sure we would rather have folk in the backfield who is a proven vet and much more reliable, i wouldn’t read to much into this one pre-season game.

Not sure what all the fuss is about from last night. Extra point block was not Folk’s fault (it was poorly blocked and it looked to me that the DLine used leverage to get up for that block). Also, while i would have liked to see Folk make the 47 yard kick, that is not a chip shot. Those are missed from time to time and no need to freak out about that.

First off Folk did not MISS the extra point…the OL broke down and it was blocked.
But that DID expose some shaky ST play. We got away with a stupid choice of bringing the ball out of the end zone on a kickoff return. We gave up a long return…and we got a freaking extra point blocked.
So I googled and found that an average of 79.78% of kicks from 40-49 yards are made. That’s a pretty big spread..ten yards so you gotta imagine that less than 70% are made from the 49 yard line.
If we hadn’t had such a horrid history and the entire Aguayo fiasco last night would not have been such a big deal. Folk didn’t shank the kick and he didn’t miss it that far. Let’s wait and let the preseason play out.
The guy they brought in has no leg strength…he barely kicked off to the goal line…at least Folk’s kicks were deep into the end zone.
