Hargreaves Humbles America
August 2nd, 2017It was a helluva play by a defender and the quarterback should have known better.
It was about midway through practice this morning and America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, was at under center. Jameis drops back to pass and looks left, short. Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith dialed up a blitz and Vernon Hargreaves came flying in.
Jameis either didn’t see Hargreaves or tried to force a screen pass. Hargreaves skied as Jameis threw the ball and not only did Hargreaves pick Jameis off, it was a house call. Hargreaves with the pick-six.
The play showed two things. One, Hargreaves is having a nice training camp if not a good one so far.
It also shows that, at times, Jameis still seems to try to force balls.
But for the crowd who wanted to run off Hargreaves last year, especially those who can’t get past measurables, it seems their angst just might have been premature.

The Defense seems to be on their A game & that’s good to know but, I’m waiting for this offense and all of its weapons to explode.

Bittersweet emotions reading this.

VHIII getting it baby!!

August 2nd, 2017 at 1:52 pm
There were fans who wanted to run off Hargreaves???
August 2nd, 2017 at 2:01 pm
Everyone knows Kobe is not a fan of VH3 pass coverage skills(tree trunks and butt cheeks too big)…But I see simlar skillset as a future honey badger/lamarcus joyner/even rhonde barber…
Cornerback/Saftey Hybrid

Jason Verrett is regarded as one of the best CB’s & he is 5’9!!! If you can ball you can ball
August 2nd, 2017 at 2:08 pm
His ‘measurables’ are elite. He’s a 90+% SPARQ athlete.
August 2nd, 2017 at 2:11 pm
It wasn’t me. I felt Vernon could have been the #1 overall last year. I am, however, a Gator homer. I about cried for joy when the Bucs drafted him. He is special.
August 2nd, 2017 at 2:19 pm
lets wait to see it during games before we crown him the 2nd coming of Reavis island cause VH# was STR8Trash last year!!

There will never be another Ronde Barber.
August 2nd, 2017 at 2:33 pm
I hope it’s not another 18 pick year!
August 2nd, 2017 at 2:54 pm
I’m not sure by who, but the ball was tipped on the play.
August 2nd, 2017 at 2:55 pm
“But for the crowd who wanted to run off Hargreaves…” Unfortunately, there is a “crowd” of fans (although diminishing) who want to run off Jameis Winston!
August 2nd, 2017 at 2:59 pm
The reps he took as a rookie were invaluable. With the reps he took, he could’ve been torched and still had a great year (in the long term perspective). The signing of Grimes.. you just can’t quantify the impact that it had on VHIII. Being overseen by Koetter and Smith. And now they are giving him the green light to use his plus ball skills, its not hard to see him with 5-6 ints this year and 2 scores.

TTown
True that
No one in the history of the NFL, came down with the corner blitz better than Barber…when the play had to be made…
Barber always met that challenge
August 2nd, 2017 at 3:23 pm
If you look closely it’s actually Javien Elliot who makes the play on the ball. He tips it up for Hargreaves. Elliot has been a wonderful story!
August 2nd, 2017 at 3:42 pm
The Kid wasn’t lying – he can ball.
Time to see that athleticism and ball hawking capability come to fruition in year 2 for young Mr Hargreaves.
August 2nd, 2017 at 4:02 pm
@KOBE SAYS…Everyone knows Kobe is not a fan of VH3 pass coverage skills(tree trunks and butt cheeks too big….
a little strange your checking out a man below the waist….I bet you know his package size too….
what did you expect out of VHG during his rookie year?…I guess since he was a 1st round pick you wanted him to be the next Charles woodson/revis/champ bailey….lol….the kid had a solid year…GO BUCS!!!
August 2nd, 2017 at 4:12 pm
Who wanted to runoff Hargreaves last year? I honestly never saw that anywhere.
August 2nd, 2017 at 4:42 pm
I don’t look into any of this….its PRACTICE.
August 2nd, 2017 at 5:23 pm
@Buccaneer Bonzai Naw, just Joe trolling for story lines like MSM 🙂
August 2nd, 2017 at 5:50 pm
This is the year of VH3. Shut em down pick 6. He was the top rated CB coming out of college when the Bucs drafted him and to the naysayers I say if the man can out run them and out jump them, then he will out play them.

I thought Javien Elliot was continuously getting better towards the end of the year last year. I’m loving that I hear he’s doing so well and has a good chance at starting nickel.

Can people stop with the ridiculous “well let’s wait til the game starts” you hop on a football website during training camp and every good sign someone says let’s wait til games start. Then why are you even reading these articles? Some people r so Negative I’ll tell you. The fans with Jameis and VH3 or Aguayo(only one that makes sense) or the Joe’s saying “well uh uh Kenny Bell uh uh didn’t do good in games” when talking about Chris Godwin. J.R. Sweezy same thing “never seen a guy come back from a back injury” that crowd is ridiculous too. Godwin is gonna be a stud Winston IS a stud. Sweezy will likely be fine. Hargreaves will be fine. Idk how some of you sleep at night.
Joes-thank you for the updates and distractions and your patience with the fan base
P.s. Godwin is NOT Kenny Bell. Period

You can easily see that VHIII has the same great ball skills that made him a top round choice. You can also see he got targeted last year and opposing QBs were testing him.
VHIII lost a lot of those battles and held his own on a few. You could see him playing back on his heels quite a bit last year. He had a really hard job last year(perhaps hardest on the team) and Mike Smith threw him into the fire and had him in single coverage most of the time.
The thing I loved about Hargreaves is when he took his lumps and got beat he didn’t let it affect him mentally. He came back out the next series and played solid everytime. He was caught more then once coming back from a bad series only to make a play, whether it be a tackle in the run game or a defended ball.
Was a great rookie campaign for Hargreaves and I look to see him get off those heels this year and get closer to the ball. You don’t just jump into the NFL and play blanket coverage. It takes a few years get to your peak for most CBs. Key is to see progression each year.

Broy, I think you made the perfect counter argument for you own post.
You’re saying that Goodwin will be a stud………??? At this point he’s still a college kid. He is an absolute nobody at this point. What stats he got in college and what round draft choice he was have the worth of toilet paper.
He has got to earn stud status. Because success is no guarantee because of 40yard dash time, or running past teenagers in college or getting drafted with a chance to make practice squad. If it was you would know who Roy Williams or Jeff Willton or Mike Clayton are.
And then you go on to say VHIII will just be fine? Why can’t he be annoited a stud? He has proven so much more then Goodwin after all.
August 2nd, 2017 at 8:00 pm
Joe your trolling!! Nobody wanted to run him off last year! We all know he was a rookie last year. Furthermore I think buc fans are more excepting of players who are smaller then any other fans in the league!! Great work for VHIII. It would be a nice surprise if this guys has a couple of pick 6 this season being his sophomore year and all… Go Bucs

Agree completely with your VHG analysis. I don’t know what people expected!
Throw a raw rookie right into the fray with a potential all pro on the other side.
Who is going to get targeted? Duh. And as you pointed out Smitty frequently left him out there on the proverbial island. Also agree he has a very short memory…mandatory for any CB.
August 2nd, 2017 at 8:30 pm
Apparently you missed the comments for months that Hargreaves will never be any good because he isn’t six-foot?
August 2nd, 2017 at 9:15 pm
Dirk Koetter likes him. At times in training camp, he has been the starting nickle corner.
August 2nd, 2017 at 9:49 pm
They couldn’t keep VH3’s jersey in stock…my son had to wait an extra 2 weeks cause they kept selling out..so hard to believe there was more than one person not wanting VH3 here..
Our defense is making everyone on offense look so-so..not because our O is bad..but out D is fooking amazing..another year of the Smitty touch and merging of the souls..
August 2nd, 2017 at 11:05 pm
Scotty, I don’t care if Winston throws 20 picks, as long as he throws 40 TDs! Winston’s game won’t ever limit the INTs, its WHEN he throws the picks that’s important. He’s a risk taker, and with that comes the good and the bad. If he goes 35-18, we’re a playoff team. He’s got an above average O-Line and weapons for weeks. The D is in the rise. It’s all on him. He’ll make a lot of plays, but the INTs will never go away. He just has to make the plays and not throw his INTs at the wrong time.

Teacherman loves Vernon Hargreaves III
He is a tough little dude!
He will be a stud by the end of his rookie contract!
August 3rd, 2017 at 11:14 am
Joe is nothing but an FSU troll covering the Bucs. Anyone remember the articles before the draft saying we should TRADE with Carolina to take Dalvin Cook #8? VH3 still has some progress to make but every rookie CB has to make the same transition, not to mention last year he could have been a SR in college. With an improved D-line getting to the QB it should make VH3’s life a lot easier and more big plays are to come from both him and Grimes. Go Bucs!!!!!!!
August 3rd, 2017 at 11:21 am
Would still do it for Cook.
If you are insinuating Joe was against Hargreaves because of where he played football, that is just nonsense. Joe’s actually defended Hargreaves. Joe doesn’t give a damn what college a guy plays for.
