Gang Of Bucs Not Dressed

August 31st, 2017

Dozens of players not dressed.

One could field a football team with the number of Bucs players that received a healthy scratch, and unhealthy scratch, for tonight’s useless preseason finale with the Redskins.

And folks are paying top dollar for this?

Look, Joe hates preseason and fully supports winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter sitting out anyone with any remote hangnail or distant chance of starting against Miami Sept. 10. Joe just feels awful for fans who paid full price for tonight’s tripe at the Den of Depression.

NFL owners, quit jerking innocent fans around!

Either end this idiocy or risk some savvy, bored lawyer tossing out a lawsuit for charging full price for this garbage. If you went to Bern’s and paid top dollar for a good meal and got White Castle belly bombers instead, you’d be incensed. How is this different?

If you went to get your transmission changed at a repair shop and paid the full cost and the only thing the servicemen did was check the air pressure in the tires and wash the windows, you’d first call the Better Business Bureau and then a cop. How is this different?

If you paid to see Van Halen and instead the “Black Eyed Peas” performed, you’d throw a chair onto the stage. How is this any different?

Talk about a con!

Either cut the preseason in half and add two games to the regular season or cut out this entire farce. Preseason games are worthless. The NFL is the only level of football that has this feces. This is just outrageous.

Again, Joe fully supports what Koetter is doing. But this outright bait-and-switch by the NFL lifting hard-earned cash from fans under the guise of paying to watch professional football, and instead watching a bunch of police dispatchers play, is beyond the pale.

Stop the madness!

So tired of the whining about preseason games.

I love seeing these young guys trying to make the team. The answer isn’t to cut the games in half. Here’s how you solve the issues:

    1. Pass a rule that starters can only play in two games in the preseason.
    2. Make preseason games free or make them very low cost. They are more of a promotional tool anyway.

That’s it. Then all the complaining stops and the young guys still have a fair chance to make the teams.

Saying the games don’t count isn’t true. They count for these guys trying to make teams. They count for teams trying to make sure they pick the right guys as backups or for development.

The issue is risking starters injuries (which would be solved by the rule) and the cost of the games because it isn’t a quality product. So fix that issue.

Just to add to this…teams would designate 25 players to only play in two preseason games, and those players must be on opening day roster. No clear starter should play in more than 2 PS games.

I agree with you but I’m not an NFL owner and do not get to vote on the changes.

They do not wish to give up that revenue stream. Can’t you feel the pain of billionaire owners having to give up a bit of green? Making them free or low cost is not going to encourage these guys. Although I agree with your take.

For the teams that are not sold out like the Bucs there is perhaps a compromise.
Give away the pre season games free to anybody who buys season tickets. As it is you have to wait to buy your season tickets or they hose you for the pre season stuff. They could use pre season games as a bonus for people who buy the regular season tickets.

    Caleb Benenoch is playing
    Playing Rt, webster at LT.

  9. JoeChuxFan Says:

Stevie T is such a disappointment! He was compared to Brandon Williams at the combine, now he looks like Israel Kamakawiwoʻole.

  10. Pickgrin Says:

I say cut the cost of preseason tickets substantially. 75% discount off regular price for all seats. The owners would still make plenty of $ from parking, concessions, merchandise, etc – but at least the fans (especially season ticket holders who have no choice) would not feel so ripped off.

There is a sh!tload more revenue with adding two regular season games and getting rid of the preseason.

Do like Pat Kirwan said NFL has discussed: Expand rosters, extend season to 18 games but players can only play in 16 games. Has a fantasy football aspect to it. Who starts when?

  12. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

I remember back in the day when there were six preseason games! Oy!

  13. Pa Privateer Says:

I wonder if we can read into the “UNDRESSED” as locked into the final 53?

Stevie T is not dressed for the game. If he was on the bubble he would be playing.

Or are we going to try to stash Stevie T on the practice squad by not playing him and advertising him to other teams?

    Just curious

  14. Defense Rules Says:

Capt Tim, I thought I heard Benenoch’s name mentioned also, as well as Lambert’s. If you assume that the 35 others have already made the cut, it’s really not too hard to look at tonight’s roster and figure out who the other 18 are.

My guess is that Fitzpatrick, Godwin, Benenoch, Hawley, Elliott, McClain, Ryan Smith, Folk, Anger, Sanborn, Beckwith, Glanton, Barber, Wilcox, Evans, Wester, Cross, Reedy. McNichols will most likely also make it (until Martin returns).

  15. Anthony Says:

Joe is ignorant. How could joe even propose a lesser preseason? It’s suggesting to evaluate 90 players, minus the “shoe-ins” in a shorter preseason??? Smh

  16. TampaTown Says:

Cut the price of preseason tickets. Expand the roster.

  17. Rod Munch Says:

Actually what coaches could do is actually play players – that’s another solution. It wasn’t that long ago starters still played a series or two in the 4th game – then you’d see 2nd stringers play well into the 2nd half. In this game you didn’t even have the first three RBs and WRs in uniform. This isn’t unique to the Bucs obviously but it’s only getting worse every year as every team is scared to do play anyone. I don’t even see how you can practice when you’re constantly scared about everyone getting hurt. I’m not saying the Bucs should reverse the trend but man, that was one awful game until the 4th quarter.

However with that said I should have went, I could have got club seats (in the old peasant club side, not the new side) for like $22 – but frankly I didn’t feel like driving down from north Pasco where it was raining. If I still lived in Tampa I would have went just for the fun of it.

  18. Cobraboy Says:

    I thought Benenoch played.
