Fights!

August 15th, 2017

Chris Conte and Jags tight end Caleb Bluiett got into a heated fight at Bucs-Jaguars joint practice today. Joe’s got the details.

UPDATED 1:11 p.m.: Fights, fights, fights.

The Bucs joint practice today with the Jags morphed into a giant MMA bout.

In-between rasslin’ matches, Bucs receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were clowning Jags corners. That was just a distraction between the shoving matches and the hollering and chest beating and the thumping and the stare-downs the practice has become.

There were a few fights Joe could see.

Jags tight end Caleb Bluiett decided to drive Chris Conte’s head into the turf and not let up after the whistle. It was exceptionally dirty. Blueitt wouldn’t let up despite Conte being on the ground. Conte went wild and then, ridiculously, was the only one flagged. (See photo above).

On the very next play, Arrelious Benn got a little payback from what appeared to be a combination of J.J. Wilcox, Robert McClain and Adarius Glanton. Benn came up swinging and Mike Smith was in quickly trying to break things up in the giant scrum that had coaches on the field — with both the greatest coach in Bucs history, Chucky, along with former NFL coach Capt. Lou Albano watching on the sidelines.

Joe was working the field with the Bucs defense taking on the Jags offense, but there was another dust-up during 1-on-1 drills, Bucs offensive lineman vs. Jags D-linemen. Joe couldn’t get a read on that.

Of course, extracurricular activities between the two teams are hardly unusual. Hothead Dante Fowler locked up with Demar Dotson last year and started a fight and he was promptly run out of practice for being out of control.

[UPDATE: 1:11 p.m.] WTVT-TV Channel 13 photojournalist Jeff Tewksbury has a clip of how dirty the Jags were practicing when Donovan Smith took a right hand to the grill and Joe Hawley laid down the law. This was the O-line scrum Joe mentioned missing.

Love it. Let’s get after their arses! I want to see our team’s fuse lit early and often. Too many slow starts…..time to start throwing the first punch for a chance (I don’t mean literally….IE – no stupid penalties, just playmaking to get our team lit!)

When people are getting whipped they get frustrated and start wanting to fight.

This is why Conte is a fan favorite. LOL Actually I have always admired Conte’s courage…he’s never been afraid to stick his nose in there and sometimes I fear the flags he’s going to draw….Sometimes he takes bad angles or gets fooled by a WR but I think he is far better than many of us give him credit for…

Hawley…is Hawley…like Conte limited physical skills…but a huge heart. Neither of these guys ever get beat for lack of effort.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

I still don’t get hitting someone in the head with your hand when they’re wearing a helmet – it does nothing. If you’re going to do something spit in the guy’s face. It’s almost impossible to see it on film and you can always say you didn’t do it or if caught you can say you did it by accident.

  20. JAB83 Says:

Yeah we all see how far hype gets you…. See #TBRayssuddenlysuck!!!

  21. The Anomaly Says:

Capt Lou? Best part of the article.

  22. unbelievable Says:

b/c Rod, spitting in someone’s face is a total b!tch move.

Real men handle it like men.

  23. tmaxcon Says:

    munch

spit in someone’s face… you should ban yourself for a minimum of 4 weeks for such a punk statement. you never spit like a beotch.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

I know what doing that is – but what I’m saying is if you’re going to risk breaking your hand to hit someone in the helmet, then just go ahead and spit in their face. You see the point is if you’re that upset that you can’t control yourself then do something that will actually provoke a real reaction instead of this fake tough guy stuff.

They had the same issue last year, so it is not the cameras.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jags always play dirty. You can expect them to leave in their starters until third quarter too. They always leave them in longer than the other team in order to get a win.
