Chucky: Not Coaching “Soon”
August 3rd, 2017There’s been a lot of chatter going around about Chucky and coaching lately.
Joe’s just about convinced Chucky, the greatest coach in Bucs history, is finished with coaching. It’s almost a decade since he last prowled the sidelines and he’s had damn near every decent coaching job, from the NFL to college football, offered to him and he has passed every one up.
Yesterday, Jenna Laine of ESPN asked Chucky about any future in coaching. Sure sounds like he’s done to Joe, from what Chucky told Laine.

The comment “I just don’t have anyone to give (my playbook) to” sounds to me like he wants to coach just hasn’t found the right position.

He’s probably hoping Koetter stumbles in a couple years so he can swoop in and nab the Bucs HC job again at about the same time his youngest son heads off to College.
I don’t think Jameis is going to let that happen.

Both of you are “Outta ya skull” (gruden quote)
No way Gruden trades in his job at ESPN for double the hours of coaching and additional stress…….Gruden has one of the sweetest football associated jobs in the World…….and for those reasons alone, he’ll never return to full-time coaching at any Level of football.
Even so, I don’t want Gruden returning here……no way! I guess you guys have completely forgot about all the of the issues that led to his dismissal along with his puppet GM Bruce Allen……..Gruden set the franchise back many years because of those decisions and that’s what led to his Ultimate dismissal and not because of his wins or losses.
Right now, the Bucs have one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL in DK and MS……….but with Gruden, it’s like rolling the dice……no thank you, I’ll pass.

If Bill Cowher didn’t come back, can’t see Gruden back, the NFL is constantly evolving….once you’ve been out of it for a decade, they remove your name from the “call this guy” list……also, Gruden is not fond of young quarterbacks….right? Not sure you’d ever want this guy chewing on Jameis.

I’ll take the gambler rolling the DICE over the ONE Dimensional FOOL who could not get the job done every day of the week and twice on Sunday’s. Running a Conservative aka SCARED organization does not work… You must be decisive and aggressive to win consistently

Couple things…..there’s been rumors Gruden is waiting for his kids to wrap up school. MNF has allowed him to be a dad and still stay connected to the game.
So what might bring him back….the right situation. Maybe a team that has a franchise QB but cant get past the first round…..Koetter may end up being Dungy 2.0. Very experienced coordinator, turns things around as a head coach but cant get to the holy land…..Enter Gruden. We know the Glazers have definitely reached out to him….they have mended fences and are honoring him before Dungy. The door isnt shut by any means.

He works like 4 months out of the year at around 6.5 million dollars in a long-term stable position for as long as he wants it basically. He would be crazy to leave that.

I personally think Gruden is kicking himself for not approaching the Bucs to replace Lovie himself. This team Jason Licht is building through the draft is looking more and more like a long term winning team.
Dirk is obviously very good as head coach. I have no doubt that, if Dirk were fired next year (better not be!) that Gruden would come back then. Winston has him drooling, and now with Evans and Jackson? And Goodwin and OJ? And this oline????
He’s kicking himself.
That said, Koetter needs to implement the granite rock policy this year.

If you saw Gruden at One Buc for the Ring of Honor press conference, he was fired up talking about the Bucs– especially during the Q and A session. Man…it really makes you miss the guy and his enthusiasm and energy. Still irritates the hell out of me that people gripe about him. I can only imagine what they would say about him if he hadn’t won a SB.

Jon remains my all time favorite bucs HC , but we of all people should know better than to take a JG quote at face value. Heck….in this case, whether he takes a job next year or never again, he can be called a liar because he’s been quoted both ways over the years.
Jon’s kids are all off to college come next year. He is almost the same age as Dirk Koetter, and has been doing mind melds with coaches, coordinators, and players since the day he got booted by the Glazers. His MNF job, which might be all the incentive one needs to not go back, also gives him an inside look at every franchise every year. This is not Joe Gibbs parachuting back in after a decade in NASCAR, this is a guy who is fully prepared to grab a headset at a moment’s notice and i don’t think the layoff matters as long as his #1 hobby remains cutting up football film. The hours are not a deterrent for him and he probably puts in similar ones prepping for each broadcast
