“I’m Sure He Got A Lot Out Of It”
July 29th, 2017Who could forget when Josh McCown explained that he couldn’t “manipulate” his balls when the Bucs lost in soggy Chicago?
You seriously can’t make this stuff up.
Wet balls are part of football, but they’re a very new part to Ali Marpet, the Division III left tackle turned Bucs right guard who is now taking on the starting center role for Tampa Bay.
Winning head coach Dirk Koetter was asked after today’s rainy training camp practice whether Marpet benefited from today’s messy conditions.
“I’m sure he got a lot out of it,” Koetter said of Marpet snapping a wet ball.
“One of those first [snaps] came out of his hand wrong. He’s got to concentrate on it. So again, that’s one of those guys [the rain] is good for.”
What a blessing for Marpet to get a chance to deal with rain at practice. What are the chances it rains during opening day in Miami? It’s got to be at least a 35 percent shot.
If nothing else, today’s experience should give Marpet some confidence and help him mentally.
Speaking of forming the mind of a center, Koetter added that Marpet will be smooth when it comes that part of the game.
“The mental thing won’t be an issue at all,” he said.

They also said we split with every division team. But we all know that heath Evans hates everything bucs

GOAT- when doing predictions, i almost always split division games. The teams know each other well and unless there is a HUGE difference in play a split is pretty fair. Losing to buff and miami are a stretch tho.

How is Marpet doing? Any balls on the ground?

When i do prediction i base it off of “could the bucs win this game?”. If yes, that’s a win. In years past it was easy. Good teams would stomp the bucs. And we could maybe win against bottom feeders. This year i think the bucs “could” win any game. Tougher to predict. But i usually lean Bucs on ties. Carolina, swept them last year. NO, could certainly beat them twice. ATL i think has regressed. I could see us sweeping them too. Likely we lose one or 2 division games. Hard to win them all. But for prediction purposes i usually do best case. I could see us winning between 16 and 12 games. If the coaching staff is on point and the players have bought in (it looks like they have) no reason we can’t take a big leap this year.

There’s not a single opponent on our scedule next season that I don’t feel confident we’ll win against next season. My squad too potent now.

Most I read is Miami beating us week 1.

Miami needs to find a QB first

Let Miami keep reading those opinions and press clippings!! And let us keep hearing the same about being expected to lose to them. While they aren’t pushovers, they won a lot of games against very bad teams last year. I expect a 2-0 start, and I feel that how we “manipulate” games 3-5 (at Minnesota and home against the G-men and Pats) could very well determine if we take a huge step, like 13-3, or a small step, like 10-6. I hope we can gel enough early on to handle that run of early games because I feel that we will be rolling as the season progresses and will be THE team that no one wants any piece of in the post-season. GO BUCS!!!!
