More “Hard Knocks” Drama
July 27th, 2017There may be no bigger cynic in the NFL media world than the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio.
When Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken had pointed words to new wide receiver DeSean Jackson this spring that he’s being paid to perform now — not being paid for what he has done in the past — Florio suspected Monken’s blast was a well-coordinated stunt to drum up a storyline for the “Hard Knocks” producers next month.
Monday, in an unrelated matter, Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy lashed out at what Joe believes were Ronde Barber’s words to the Tampa Bay Times where Barber suggested that GMC doesn’t have the disposition to carry a ferocious defensive line. In other words, Barber suggested GMC isn’t a badass, among other Bucs.
Or, was GMC’s Twitter blast unrelated? Florio seems to smell the same scent of “Hard Knocks” here as he did with Monken’s words. The fact GMC never did specify what got him worked up only fuels Florio’s suspicion that “Hard Knocks” is somehow lurking in the shadows.
Whatever the reason, it definitely adds a layer of flavor to Hard Knocks. If the Buccaneers decide to embrace the subplot and not leave it on the cutting room floor.

When it comes to TV shows I don’t believe anything is off the cuff including Hard Knocks.

Please for the love of God do not highlight McCoy’s sensitivity.

You don’t get into the Hall of Fame on stats alone, because the electors/voters/choosingchumps are all media guys.
McCoy’s year to get the media attention on him for a Hall campaign a decade or so from now starts tomorrow. His story of fiery anger at being dismissed by the public for years will play well on national TV and if he backs it up with a Sapp-like season and a Super Bowl appearance under the public eye, his chances for a yellow jacket grow.
I smell One Buc Place behind the whole thing, their media department has the chance of a lifetime here.

Smitty has claimed HK is a documentary not a reality show. I hope and wish he’s correct. But I understand why there is so much skepticism given that “reality” TV shows are anything but “real”.
Still IMHO it will depend on our guys and how interesting they are. I absolutely agree with Joe that at the end of the day it’s about getting eyeballs to the screen.
Where I see hope is that this team has some excellent “human interest” stories that really do not need to be hyped. If there is no genuine drama I feel certain HBO will do their best to manufacture some…but we have plenty of good stories already.
#3…nuff said.
The first kicking battle I can remember with this much drama…young kid trying to hold off old vet…GM’s rep a bit on the line…ease of presentation…kickers either make their kicks or they don’t…sometimes a bad snap or missed block can impact their efforts but the vast majority of the time it’s totally on the kicker and it’s an immediate payoff…success or failure…good TV!
Stevie T is not only a rookie trying to make it…everybody here knows his story of living in a car…great stuff.
There are tons of subplots…Mongo moving to center…can Sweezy’s back hold up…
At this time IMO there is enough drama already without the need to create “fake” drama.

I wouldn’t trust Mike Florio as far as I could throw him.
He is a two-faced weasel.

Xtandar- I am a GMC fan and I defend him regularly, but I don’t think anyone thinks he is on his way to Canton. He will be remembered as a very solid, if not spectacular

GMC is going to explode this season. He will be blowing up offenses from coast to coast. Time to unleash the Beast.

Let’s just get to some football. Forget the subplots, let’s get some wins!
