Jason Licht No. 19
June 29th, 2017It seems a combination of a grudge and a kick in the rear end is keeping a certain NFL general manager down.
And that would be Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht. On a summertime reading list ranking of NFL shot-callers, David Steele of SportingNews.com still has an ax to grind about lazy Lovie Smith getting run.
Steele was among the large Lovie mafia, national NFL media movers and shakers fed propaganda by Lovie’s agent, claiming his dismissal had nothing to do with (irresponsible) job performance.
But Steele also cites a valid excuse to keep Licht in the bottom half of NFL general managers, and it was what Joe referenced earlier, a kick in the behind. Licht is ranked No. 19.
When the Glazers surprisingly fired Lovie Smith last offseason, a lot was lifted onto Licht’s shoulders. Dirk Koetter improved as head coach as the season went on. The additions on defense have been good enough to complement Jameis Winston and his growth. But Licht is still on the hook for the trade-up to draft kicker Robert Aguayo … who’s already being challenged for his job by Nick Folk. The competition is already making the Bucs look bad — imagine if Folk wins.
Well, at least Licht is acting upon the Roberto Aguayo selection and hey, what if Aguayo wins the competition? Doesn’t that make him and, indirectly the Bucs, better?
Next year in Steele’s rankings, Joe hopes Licht is judged on the talent he acquires to build a playoff team, not one specific pick.

Wow, This guy opinion is worth about as much as one of BigHogHeinous’s weekly racial rants!!!!! I hope he does the same thing next ( it is easier to spot the sheep, tampa2 mifia, and lovie loyalist this way)!!!!!!!!!!!!
But get ready Ladies and Gentleman!!!!! these “time filler” opinions of stupidity are just about over!!!!!! 35 days until the Hall of Fame Game!!!!!!!! And just like Ira who needs to focus on 1 job ( and that is doing everything to make sure everyone knows how great Rhonde Barber is!!!!!!) The Bucs will be focuses on 1 goal!!!!! We will start to see this in training camp!!!!!! Listen carefully and you will hear it!!!!!!!! Walking around in the Tampa area you can just feel the excitement for the Bucs!!!!!! and that would never have happened why the incompetent one was in charge!!!!!!!!!
Jamies Winston says: “Mr. Realist, remember when I said “This league is about taking things!!!”
The Realist says: I do, and what are you going to take this year Jamies?????
Jamies Winston says: The Division!!!!!!
The Realist says: Damn Straight!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

^ We will OWN the NFC SOUTH!!!
We have a better defense to say the least. Jameis will do the rest.
Mr. Steele is spicing things up to make a living. SMH

David Steele of SportingNews.com should stop using Google and Wikipedia for his research.

At least he is right about Aguayo!

Wow realist. If you’re going to end every possible sentence with five exclamation marks, you may as well START TYPING IN ALL CAPS!

I follow the licht, however he does seem to have one strange pick every draft.
Simms, Aguayo, and Beckwith instead of best available running back. That being said Licht has done an amazing job and is deserving of a top 10 ranking after we make it to the playoffs this year!

Why should mr.Licht get a pass? wasting 2 high draft pics to move up for a kicker was the worst move in years. He is not picking up any free agents for depth while the bucs have plenty of cash. I dont feel he has been a bad gm but not great either.

They all mention the trade-up for Aguayo but never mention the trade down for Hargreaves. Essentially, Aguayo was would have been our third rounder in the second round.

Beckwith is a baller. Give him a chance to heal up. He’s the 3’rd piece to the best LB trio in the game. Licht is doing a bangup job all the way around.

Love what Licht is doing for our team, but did anyone find it ironic that robertos number is 19? Haha

There seems to be an inordinate amount of exclamation points in that post, I don’t use my exclamation points as haphazardly as you do.

Watershed year for Licht ( and to a lesser degree Koetter )…double digit wins and a playoff berth…a nice extension should be forthcoming ( not sure it should be handed over before then honestly ). Some latitude given after having to endure Grumpy Old Man Lovie and how badly he soiled the (play) sheets.

@Joe
Even if Aguyao manages to win the kicking battle, how do you trust someone thru the entire season who has already proven to be that mentally weak? What’s going to happen when his cleats for a particular game don’t feel exactly the same on his feet as the ones from the prior week which in his mind, helped him succeed? Will his new coat of mental armor toughness crack like the shell of a DQ chocolate dipped cone? How do you not go w/ the veteran who has proven to have been there done that in countless game kicking scenarios?

Licht didn’t waste a pick as this was an extra pick acquired in the trade down of our 1st from 9 to 11 and get a 3rd rounder. The use that 3rd round to trade up to get Noberto Agonyo or whatever. Hope Roberto can straighten out his game and becomes pro bowl caliber.

by my count, Licht has been responsible for every offensive starter on the team save dotson, and that is a group that football people are drooling over. He’s also been darn near perfect in the narrow band of defenders he has drafted (kwon, hargreaves, spence)
so yeah, i’d like to see what at least 10 of the 18 GMs above him have done in the last 3 or 4 offseasons to make their teams better
high profile busts take some of the shine off, but the Ring of Honor at Ray Jay will be wallpapered with Licht draft picks 15-20 years from now, even if he quit tomorrow
June 29th, 2017 at 12:46 pm
19 is about right for Jason Licht.
June 29th, 2017 at 1:03 pm
Pick6. You are wrong about one thing. Ray Jay will not be wallpapered by any of Licht’s draft pics. They will all be holograms. 🙂

David Steele needs to take a big dose of panadol and get rid of his PMS cramps.
June 29th, 2017 at 2:37 pm
agree with Lakeland…GO BUCS!!!
June 29th, 2017 at 7:17 pm
Ben is spot-on!
‘Bert may very well be the worst pick-EVER! A football player warrants a 2nd round pick. A soccer player NEVER warrants a 2nd round pick-EVER!
June 29th, 2017 at 11:01 pm
Well if he cuts doug martin….. he makes rank 32. So 19 is great right now.
June 30th, 2017 at 8:59 pm
What has Licht won or done?
