Freeman Still Dialed In To A Football Future

June 22nd, 2017

Determined

Josh Freeman won his last NFL start, a walk-off-the-couch stunner in Week 17 for the Indianapolis Colts to close the 2015 NFL season.

It wasn’t a work of art, but he was pretty darn solid for only a few practices.

And then Freeman was mysteriously and shockingly cut by the Colts.

Joe says “shockingly” because Joe had an extremely long chat about Freeman with a Colts official at the NFL Scouting Combine in 2016. There was nothing but love for Freeman, who Chuck Pagano had celebrated as “The Coney Island Thrasher” after that 2015 victory. It was a playful reference during a locker room celebration to Freeman reviving his career with a garbage startup league based in Brooklyn.

And then Freeman was cut and hasn’t been heard from since.

Last week, a report out of Montreal had the Bucs’ former franchise quarterback trying out for Montreal’s Canadian Football League team.

“Josh had a very good workout. He showed tremendous arm strength, an excellent touch on the deep balls, and excellent footwork,” [general manager] Reed told the Montreal Gazette. “You’re always serious when you’re looking at quarterbacks. It’s obviously the most important position on the field. We’re serious about the evaluation process.”

Joe applauds Freeman’s drive. There’s zero evidence he’s squandered the tens of millions he earned in the NFL, yet Freeman, 29, keeps forging ahead.

Perhaps Freeman was re-energized — or in stunned disbelief — when he saw Mike Glennon lock down $18 million guaranteed from the Bears, or when Blaine Gabbert and Josh McCown found new teams.

Joe wishes Freeman well. Perhaps he’ll score a job up north and sling balls to former Bucs teammate Tiquan Underwood, who makes his living catching passes for Montreal.

plus you can get a lot of legal weed and other good supplies up there.

  2. BurgDweller Says:

All he had to do was accept his role as a backup to Glennon after he was benched, ride out the season, then sign with a new NFL team the next year and compete for a starting job. His immaturity damaged him big time.

  3. James Walker Says:

Make sure you buy an alarm clock Josh.

    Umm, what about this?

    https://www.joebucsfan.com/2014/11/forclosure-filing-on-josh-freemans-house/

Joe wrote a follow-up story that Freeman paid his delinquent bill in full upon learning of what was called a screwup by an adviser. Also, Freeman later sold the house a year or so later for a very tidy profit.–Joe

  5. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

Stay away from those ego bloating Michael Jackson cover art photo shoots Josh.

Joe says “upon learning of what was called a screwup by an adviser. ”

Its “always” someone else’s fault with jfro-6pak!!! See the problem is he can go in and show off his nfl arm in a try-out and looks good, but then teams do a little checking and that is where it all goes wrong for jfro-6pak!!!!! When the truth comes out, teams do not want that guy in the locker room!!!! He is a proven liar and will scape goat everything!!! It does not help that he cannot learn more than plays (allegedly)!!!! He is still garbage and owes the Bucs Fans that supported him a huge apology who the transgressions and lies he told as a Buc!!!!!! I do not wish him well, in the hopes he will hit rock bottom and finally look in the mirror and be a real man and own up to the harm he has done!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Not There yet Says:

If he had kept his head on straight he would have gotten a big payday somewhere he’s more talented the Glennon easily but it counts just as much upstairs as a quarterback. Even Johnny football feels bad for Freeman lol

  8. Waterboy Says:

I was surprised that he never really got another shot after leaving the Bucs and starting for Minnesota 2 weeks later in that disastrous Monday night game. I thought someone would at least keep him as a back up. I hope the real story on him comes out someday.

  9. The Real Malloy Says:

Waterboy….you might want to re-read the story. He did get another shot. That’s literally what Joe was talking about.

  10. BigHogHaynes Says:

Oh yea! Realist push that garbage to the curb…..so the trash man can pick it up!!!! He caused no harm and owes no apologies, The Bucs Management at the time Drop the Ball, Looked Away, Put Their Heads In The Sand and eventually Turned Their Back On Him!! Look what “harm” they did to his career!!!

  11. SB Says:

Personally I think everybody should stop worrying complaining or whatever and just embrace all the positives we as Bucks fans have to enjoy

  12. Issic Haggins Says:

Lottsa partying and dirty girls isn’t a recipe for success , the teams talk behind the scenes , they just don’t tell the reporters, they know allot more than the players think. Some gets overlooked but some does not , ,again some does not

    Wish Josh well !!

Players fooling themselves ,Josh don’t be the next Sapp !! Clean it up now , 100 percent !!

  13. Maze Says:

He should leave the Canadians alone. He’s America’s problem and disappoint

  14. Maze Says:

    Freeman The Bar Star 😂

  15. Issic Haggins Says:

Big Hog he let tons of peeps down and many peeps tried to help him, kissing is arss like some did only hurt him worse and I’m afraid continues to do so !!

Hero of So Ho is a short life !!

Schiano tried to help him and put up with more from Josh than he would many many others !! Josh may realize this at some points in his life but I’m not sure that time has arrived yet …….. Everyone blamed Schiano , when he knew he had a problem child

  16. chester potlash Says:

My nephew went to high school with him. Let’s just say a lot of the rumors had more than just faint smoke. Maybe, hopefully, Josh is operating from a clear mind and body now and for the future.

  17. BigHogHaynes Says:

Schiano was a Jack/Ass in the mold of your present president!

  18. BucEmUp Says:

Yeah the michael jackson photo shoot is where I drew the line.
!!!!!!!!!NOT MY QUARTERBACK!!!!!!!! (screamimg lib destroying public property)

  19. BucEmUp Says:

Whoa Big Hog the harm theu did to his career??? What about one being accoubtable for his own actions. Its not theyre job to coddle him and show him how to be a man and handle his responsibilities. Freeman is the only one to blame for his career falling apart

  20. MTM Says:

Freeman will be cut right after training season. The NFL is desperate for QB’s and he can’t keep a job. There is something going on behind the scenes with Freeman. How he is not at least a back up in NFL says it all.

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

MTM..I gotta agree with you here. Freeman must have mega tons of baggage not to be at least a backup in the NFL. I mean, Do we need to list some of the Sorry A.. backups getting paid? I suspect he has all sorts of garbage in his trunk. He might make it in the Canadian league. If not, Josh should just give it up, lick his wounds and..burn one down!

  22. LakeLandBuc Says:

We haven’t won 10 games in a season since Josh Freeman. So what does that say about the Bucs franchise?

  23. The Buc Realist Says:

It says that the Bucs have not played such a soft schedule like they did in 2010 with a team that was tanking for #1 draft pick in Carolina and a team at the end of the year that was resting starters as they walked into the playoffs!!!!!!

    2010 = 3rd place in division!!!!!!!!

  24. DBS Says:

Nobody could be as stunned as the General or tmaxipad that Glennon got 18 million. Even if he does become the backup in the end. Why should he care with that kind of money?

  25. Chris Says:

Admittedly this says more about the franchise’s long time losing tradition, but in the Bucs’ 40-year history, Josh Freeman holds the franchise record for most touchdown passes all-time (and he did it in merely 4 full seasons). He was the first Bucs’ QB to throw for over 4,000 yards in a single season, and also held the team record for most touchdowns in a single season up until just last year when Winston usurped the record by 1.
Freeman’s issues were between his ears and he just never had the guts to take the reins and be a leader. I really think he could’ve flourished in the NFL with better mentoring and coaching.
Of course Jameis Winston is poised to rewrite the record books and is a natural born leader. It’s just disappointing to me that Josh Freeman never gets any credit for some of the very impressive accomplishments he achieved in such a short amount of time.
