Call The Jets

June 25th, 2017

Interesting trade proposal.

The final puzzle piece to an otherworldly Bucs offense is there for the taking, says Mike Florio.

The creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com was discussing potential trades on his smart TV show last week, “Pro Football Talk Live,” seen weekday mornings on NBC Sports Network.

Florio suggested since the Jets are having a fire sale, why wouldn’t the Bucs be interested in running back Matt Forte?

“The Jets are in a full-blown tank mode and Matt Forte is the one who hasn’t gotten the memo yet,” Florio said about prospective trades. “How about Matt Forte to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? You consider that Doug Martin is suspended for the first three games of the season — and they are saying all the right things about Martin for now. But he is suspended for the first three games of the regular season, a carryover for a PED suspension last year.

“Matt Forte with Mike Evans, with Desean Jackson, with O.J. Howard, with Cameron Brate and with Jameis Winston, this is a team — and you look at the NFC South. The south divisions in each conference are extremely wide open. Any team can win it; and team can finish last and the Buccaneers are on the cusp of making something great happen.

“If Forte has any gas at all left in the tank, I love what he can do for that offense. And if [the Jets] are dismantling in the hopes of getting the first overall pick next year, why not unload him for whatever you can get?”

Hell, the main reason the Bucs drafted oft-injured, one-trick pony Charles Sims is because a scout planted in Lovie Smith’s head that Sims reminded him of Matt Forte. That’s all Lovie needed to hear.

So if the Bucs drafted Sims because he was the next Matt Forte, why not go out and get the original? Sure, Forte will be 32 in December, retirement-home age for running backs. But since he is so old and the Jets just want to collect draft picks and tank for the first overall pick, Joe suspects Forte could be had for a third-day draft pick. A late one at that.

The Bucs trading for Matt Forte? Why the hell not? Remember, Dirk Koetter likes to say you cannot have too many good players.

Sure if Forte is healthy and available….after Martin’s suspension of course, but he won’t be will he…

So the Bucs are to carry exactly how many backs into TC and preseason if they add Forte? What’s that Six?

  2. AC Says:

If I’m calling the jets it’s for bilal Powell def not forte.. Powell is a baller just on a bad team

  3. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

If we are calling people for RBS we need to be calling the bengals for Hill

  4. alamba78 Says:

So, let me get this straight. The Jets are on a fire sale so they can get the #1 pick in the draft. Which superhero are they exactly looking to draft that’s going to play every position….all at once? J-E-ah screw it!

  5. BigHogHaynes Says:

Why get old man Forte when we could have gotten MIXON!

  6. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Matt Forte is 31 years old. So I know at least one of the Joes should be averse to this move. Unless JBF bias against Doug really just runs that deeply.

  7. RayJameisStadium Says:

    Pass! That’s Lovie’s bromance.

I rather see what Licht is going to do with our draft picks next year. Licht is making the off season entertaining.

    Go Bucs!!!

  8. Dreambig Says:

32? Come on man! Give up any draft pick at all for a 32 year old running back? That makes no sense at all.

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m starting to think that Joe would suggest we bring in Jim Brown (still can walk)……to get rid of Doug Martin…….this is getting funny.

The simple solution is to pass the ball….pass the ball to open up the run…..hell put Rogers & Sims in the backfield and throw to them too…..we have got so many passing weapons….I’m sure Koetter can design an offense to get by quite well with out Martin our first three games.

  10. CaptainStagger Says:

    All Day > Forte

And Peterson didn’t cost picks……..Not happening

  11. tnew Says:

Matt Forte was one of my favorite fantasy players. The two critical words are was and fantasy. Between McNichols, Sims, Rodgers and “first-team reps Martin” the Bucs are good in the backfield.

And again Big Hog,… are you going on record saying Mixon > Howard. If that is your position, state it and then own it. The two TE set with Brate and Howard or even Howard and Auclair if you want to show a run package changes everything with the flexibility of this offense. Martin may run for 1200 yds this season in 13 games given the unpredictable nature of our personnel groupings. I know its not the “cool take” to embrace Martin, but when you look at this and other sites regarding the Bucs its impossible to disregard what he looks like in camp.

And if you want to embrace a productive college back, look no further than McNichols. He’s easy to forget but his production outpaced Mixon. Oh, and McNichols is a Buc. Frankly, you are starting to sound like the Marcus Mariotta crowd.

If you say you wanted Howard and Mixon, well you might as well say we could’ve had Fournette, or Ezekiel Elliot last season or any other player that was ever drafted. If Mixon was on the board when Evans was picked, he very well could’ve been a Buc.

  12. BucEmUp Says:

I agree id take powell over forte, but I think forte trailed ogf last season becaus ehe knew he was on a crap team. No vet is going to play his hardest in that situation where there is clearly no hope.

  13. Doctor Stroud Says:

If there are any Jets players to trade for, it might be Sheldon Richardson.

  14. JTHV Says:

If you can get Forte for a 6th rounder and he plugs in and plays like a wiley old Vet, understanding his role and possibly having 500 total yards in 17, it would be a steal. Is he any good in short yardage situations? That would be the tilt for me because none of our current guys are.

  15. The Buc Realist Says:

    @JTHV

forte had the most touches and bearly got 800 yards,,,,, I would rather keep a 6th round pick and see what McNichols can do???? I do not know why Joe wants to see old vets that can’t bring anything to the table anymore!!!!!! RB is now a position that if you can get a couple of productive years then you should start shopping for the next young guy!!!!! RB and wiley old vets almost never work out.

  16. buccfan305 Says:

I can’t believe this is even a suggestion.

  17. rayjay1122 Says:

We are good with what we have. Rodgers can produce and with the receiving threats we will have all over the field, take a RB like McNichols who can pass protect, has very good hands and obviously is at least a serviceable rusher and he could be one who can carry the load and Rodgers can split carries with him. We will be fine. Regardless of what they decide to do with Martin.

  18. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

No sense in wasting a draft pick on a 32 year old back. I’d take a third day pick over an ancient RB any day.

  19. chester potlash Says:

Seems like the Bucs are subject of trade rumor for every player in the NFL at some point or another. This is preposterous. The Bucs like Sims and they also like their new RB from Boise State, McNichols. Plus they have Jacquizz Rodgers and Peyton Barber. Plus there is Doug Martin.

Please. The Bucs aren’t trading a cup of warm flat beer for Matt Forte.

  20. Bucamania Says:

No thanks. Quiz and jMac will be just fine.

  21. NFLNut Says:

Why? I’d rather have McNichols, or Simms or Doug than Forte, and we have all three of those guys plus Quizz …

  22. bucs_365 Says:

    Not happening. Waste of internet.

  23. Gencoimports Says:

Didn’t I read somewhere that the Glazers are anti-RBs 30 and over? If true, this definitely won’t happen.

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Must be great being a Jets fan.

  25. Brion Says:

    Must……generate……ad….revenue…..

  26. Mike Says:

Yeah, I doubt this will happen since the Bucs barely entertained the idea of AP and AP even mentioned wanting to come to Tampa. A True fire sale would be trading for one of the Jets young RBs. Powell is a lot like Gurley. A good player but not on the right team to display their talents.

  27. 813bucboi Says:

no thanks joe…..rather stay young and develop talent….GO BUCS!!!!

  28. Ysosyria Says:

Why not? Hell we really don’t have a running game….as of right now.
