“Touchdown With A Two-Point Conversion”

May 11th, 2017

Bullish on Bucs.

Just yesterday Joe advised Bucs fans to tap the brakes on chatter about a Super Bowl this season simply because it appears Tampa Bay won the offseason with key free agent acquisitions and a solid draft.

It seems Mike Greenberg wasn’t reading.

The long-time ESPN Radio voice did an interview on the “Ronnie and TKras Show,” heard locally on WDAE-AM 620 co-hosted by Ronnie Lane and Tom Krasniqi. Greenberg believes AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s launched the Bucs up the ladder of NFL teams.

“I think it feels like a grand slam. Like a touchdown with a two-point conversion,” Greenberg said of the selection of tight end O.J. Howard at No. 19 in the NFL draft last month.

“If you look at the value of that position in the NFL today and the way teams are using it and the value you can have in the continued development of what I believe is a superstar quarterback waiting to happen, in Jameis, I think that feels like an absolutely sensational pick.

“And you look at the weapons he now has, Jameis has, at his disposal in the outside and the middle of the field, that is a division that we have seen teams go to the Super Bowl repeatedly. [The Bucs] will be a really interesting dark horse pick right now for a lot of people for this year.”

Greenberg also gushed about America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, saying, “He has everything pointing to him becoming an absolute star player.”

Joe loves all of this heady talk of wins and division titles and playoffs and — gasp! — a Super Bowl. But let’s see the Bucs play a meaningful game in January for once, shall we? When/if the Bucs make the playoffs, then it’s time for looking at championships.

One goal at a time.

Better to fly under the radar like the raiders did last year and the jags are gonna do this year, lovie’s first year with the “dunkaneers” everyone had the bucs winning the division and making a deep playoff run, the only thing the bucs won were the rights to draft jameis

  2. carrythatmofostick Says:

jameis is going to be the top QB in the leauge, whether that be this season, or by his fifth, it all has to do with his maturation, jason licht has proved he can build a competitive and i believe a contending team in a short period of time, and coach koetter, has the pulse and his team all in. heaven forbid, and barring injury this bucs team will be the dominate the leauge, and maybe just maybe, will catch new england in superbowl wins, appearances and rings. this kid is special, and i am very happy we got him! go bucs

  3. Casual Observer Says:

In my opinion the major team weakness was the lack of a pass rush. But, after seeing the stories about how healthy Spence, Ayers, and Smith are, things may not be as dire as many thought. We’ll see in the pre-season games. Maybe the Bucs don’t need to be in the market for a pass-rushing DE. They look pretty strong in all the other areas. So, playoffs it is!

  4. Eric Says:

If you look at week 1 last year @ Atlanta, you can tell that is what our offense is meant to look like. Bombs to ASJ and Evans will now be bombs to Evans/Djax/OJ.

Week 2 we lost Doug, VJax was beginning his spiral, ASJ was losing focus, and the offense was thrown off. Never could we recover to our original offensive game plan and had to adjust with Hump moving up the chain and Brate essentially replacing ASJ. After 9(!) injuries to our players on offense, it was outstanding we finished 9-7. The d deserved most the praise though.

Just imagine how Koetter/Jameis feel to have a hard-worker in OJ in one of if not the most important role on offense now. Djax has the quick step to catch those 6 extra overthrows from last year and Evans can deal with 1 on 1s in which he will dominate in, and I mean DOMINATE. NO CORNER IN THE LEAGUE WILL STOP THIS DUDE IN 2017.

Now with the field requiring coverage with these weapons, Quiz could rush for 1000 but I have faith the #2 rb in the league in 2015 returns to form. Doug won’t have to deal with stacked boxes for the first time in his career. That’s right, he will have an easier time than ever before.

Sprinkle in Brate, Hump, and Godwin and we are set to make fireworks. If you don’t understand how crazy this about to get, then grasp this concept now because you want to be strapped in and prepared to fire the cannons in 2017!

  5. Buc1987 Says:

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this much excitement in the offseason. Especially in the comments section on JBF. Most posters, even the optimistic ones are usually cautious. I don’t see that as much as in the past. I’ve been seeing BOLD statements across these boards.

When I had my season tickets in 2103 my wife and I would tailgate at Al Lopez. The Bucs were 0-7 coming into a Thursday night football game at RJS. As we chilled out on the back of our car before the game. I looked at my wife and said “these fans are still having fun out here. Can you imagine what the lot will look like if the Bucs ever start winning again?” It’s going to be party time and I’m going to BE there. I can’t wait.

  6. BigMacAttack Says:

Chris Godwin was the real steal by the Bucs and he’s the one to keep an eye on. He will soon be the number 1 WR for the Bucs, because of the attention given to the other 3 big names.

  7. Cobraboy Says:

I was watchingn the draft with Mom CB (whose father, my grandfather, was the first All American football player from the South—from Vanderbilt—in 1911 on the Walter Camp list, the Infamous “Frog” Metzger).

I had a short list of 5 names I thought could go Bucs @ 19. Howard was on the top of my list, but like everyone I never thought he’d get past 5-7.

When 3 QB’s and Davis were drafted I told her “The Bucs just got into the playoffs, because they will get Howard.”

He may be one of the all-time great draft picks in Buc history.

  8. Cobraboy Says:

    @ BigMac:

This may be the first year that ALL the Buc draft picks make the 53 man roster (I include the PUP for Beckwith).

    I’m not sure that’s ever happened before…

  9. Eric Says:

Oh and btw it isn’t OJ that is the best offseason move,

    it’s Mike Smith’s retention.

  10. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

NFL that was a fantastic write up on Fameis and turnovers lastnight. You rocka-bye-babied that chic Tampa Tonya with that one. Hardest post I’ve read in awhile bro. Salute my G.

  11. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

O.J. is a BIG deal because if you think back to When Koetter had Tony Gonzalez in atl he was more the focal point of that offense than Julio. I distinctly recall the bond Fameis had with O’leary while at FSU. O.J. and Fameis are a match made in heaven. Geeked about the potential of this”pick your poison offense”. Superbowl or bust, all gas no brakes homie.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This IS the year I predicted we would at least go to the Superbowl in (predicted 3 years ago come August). So I sort of committed way back then.

Every year the past ten years I have said fans need to taper their expectations. I said things like “You are all just setting yourselves up for huge disappointment” and “This team just is not ready” and “Too many holes left to fill”.

So, for anyone who has doubts about this year, listen to what I am about to say:

Raise your expectations for this year!

I recommended the opposite nearly every year for a decade, but this is where all of that changes. The pieces are mostly in place…certainly enough for a deep playoff run, and if we can win in the payoffs, then we can go all the way to the Superbowl.

We have a favorable schedule for the first time in seven years. We have a franchise QB and a bunch of offensive weapons. We have a better than average defense.

We can do it THIS YEAR.

  13. Eric Says:

positivity out of bonzai!?!?!? I like it!

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Eric Says
“positivity out of bonzai!?!?!? I like it!”

    Surprised?

Usually, I don’t show optimism until the season starts. During the off season I tend to try to be more objective…which is why I have come off negative in the past. There wasn’t a lot to be hyped on.

    This year is different.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I should give props where props are due. Last year, I wasn’t the only one who predicted our Superbowl would come this year. St. Pete and Buc1987 did as well.

  16. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

Bout to lose my sh!t… SO EXCITED yo!!!
    Winston 5,000 yds 40 TDs 10 ints
RB by com. 2,500 yds 16 TDs
    GMC 10 sacks
    Spence 13 sacks
    VIII 5 INTS
    Grimes 6 INTS
    Get my drift…
    12-4

  17. Eric Says:

well that is awesome then. cuz I agree.

going to vegas next week and putting $500 down on bucs over 8-8.

    Pretty confident, needless to say.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Interestingly, the Bucs defied the odds last year by winning Game 1.

They have gone 5-10 on first games the last 15 years.

  19. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

@Eric … Word. I can’t make to Vegas but I’ll be looking on the ol interweb here to place my bet.
    B safe homie!!!
    Go BUCS

  20. Kaptain Morgan Says:

Danny Kanell, before he was let go by ESPN and before the draft, had predicted the Bucs going to the NFC Championship game. Media is slowly coming around on the Bucs and the bandwagon is getting fuller by the day.

  21. Eric Says:

look at the first 3 weeks this year…

    Miami, Chicago, Minnesota.

Seasons are largely determined how team’s perform in first three weeks. We have a cakewalk IMO. Miami is extremely overrated. Chicago is trash. Minnesota’s offense isn’t half of what ours is and our defenses could be parallel.

I see 3-0 with a 2-1 floor. I think 1-2 and we should prepare ourselves to underachieve.

  22. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

This is good stuff. When you look at what the Colts did while Manning was there and the Pats with Brady, you can’t help but think the Bucs could be the next version. Jameis is going to carry this team year in and year out. Last year was the first step. I think they are ready to start a decade long run of playoffs and hopefully a few SB wins sprinkled in. When Jameis was drafted many felt the team needed a couple of years to build up the team around him. Well boys we are now ready to make that jump! Can’t wait for the season to start. At least Hard Knocks will help fill the void until the bullets start flying.

  23. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I agree Eric, we should win all 3 of those games.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

retaining smitty was important, but I think the best/biggest acquisition was c.baker….someone who can help stuff the run….im still having nightmares about that dallas game…this year will be different….I predict we’ll be a top 5 run defense and top 10 overall defense….good luck trying to run on….

    Big will
    GMC
    Baker
    Ayers……GO BUCS!!!!

  25. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

FOR ME… GONE are the days of fretting an opponent like TB12. Fu¢k him and the rest of the league!!! AIN’T NO BRAKE PUMPING GOIN ON!!! This is really the only time where we can dream of the SB… The offseason. Guess what JOE? I’M WIDE AWAKE!!!
    LIVE HARD
    PLAY HARD
    WIN AS A FAMILY

  26. Eric Says:

dallas sucked but I’m having nightmares about the saints game on xmas eve.

I went to watch it with my dad and he said he wasn’t worried about the saints. Right when he said that I knew we were going to lose.

going to be a much better season…

  27. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

@Eric tell ya pops when y’all get it the car… “No complete sentences, starting now” lol

  28. Eric Says:

    lol

  29. Birdie Says:

All the way up,nothing can stop me!All the way up!

  30. Pickgrin Says:

This 2017 Bucs team could go 12-4 or 8-8. Injuries to starters – or the lack of them will largely determine how well this team does and how far it can go. We are good enough on paper to compete for a Super Bowl. Our starting line-up that is. But our depth is still a problem at a # of positions.

  31. Kobe Faker Says:

    SLAM THE BRAKES!

    Kobe loves the offense….

How are going to cover Atl, Saints, Car recievers?

Its all up to Jason Licht

Give us (pay for) a released (because of cap reasons) very good cornerback…

    we go to NFC championship…

    if not?

because of our tough division,…we might not make the playoffs ….again

  32. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Sounds about right to me Whata, the pro game is about having more talent they do. From my vantage point ours is on par if not better than most NFL teams. I just can’t for see many Ls next season. Pick I think adding talent helps with reducing injuries. I feel that way because you don’t have 2s and 3s trying to execute the jobs of number 1s thusly making everyone on the field job easier.

  33. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Same way we covered them in wins against both those teams last season. Re watch those games maybe there you’ll find your answer Kobe. Superbowl or bust, all gas No Brakes homie.

  34. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

You talking bout how are we gonna cover somebody. Really dude. For the umptinth time we lead the league in points allowed, sacks and turnovers for a five or six week stretch. Think what you wanna I lean towards we’ll be more than fine on defense next season. Not to mention we playing defense next year most games with the lead. Cause ain’t no one stopping this offense from getting in the end zone.

  35. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Add in one of the league best punters I’m pulling for Roberto but he can’t cut the career percentage of Folk looks real good to me. Where’s the weakness on this team???

  36. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

pump the brake. You pump yo weak @$$ brakes. There are others on some other ishh dude.

  37. LakeLandBuc Says:

Some of these Sportswriters are high on the Bucs, and some are not. I was reading Bucky Brooks ( 2017 All-Rookie Team) on NFL.Com. And he don’t have any Bucs rookies on the team. He even have Evan Engram as his TE, ahead of O.J.Howard. Then I read this morning that the Oddsmakers in Las Vegas has the Bucs as Underdogs in 10 games this season. I read a lot of this stuff, but ‘I just take it with a grain of salt’. I’m just waiting on the season to kick in.

  38. Buccfan37 Says:

At this point I can’t come up with a Bucs prediction for this season. I just don’t have a feel for what is widely expected to be a much improved team.

  39. Kobe Faker Says:

    NOS

I will gladly accept you paying for my beer tab

  40. Buc1987 Says:

Sup Bonzai…. you feelin’ it bro?

I’m just watching all the pieces fall into place for a serious run at this thing….THIS YEAR. I went out on a huge limb back then. I said it cause I really wanted Jameis Winston to be our QB. I said it cause we never really had one before. At least in my time as a fan.

Pre-draft : “Jameis Winston will got to a Super Bowl within 3 years of entering the NFL, whether it’s with the Bucs or some other team.”

Also said : “The Bucs will rue the day they passed up JW if they don’t draft him.”

The time has come. I actually think THEY, not just him can do it this season.

  41. Buc1987 Says:

Kobe…I’ll sell you my stitched FSU Winston jersey for three hundred in stamps.

  42. mike10 Says:

    You any good at saying

“Dont worry Kobe, Ill take care of the beer tab”

  44. Eric Denman Says:

This team is only going as far as Jameis can carry them.. They have surrounded him with weapons now the excuses are out the window.. Lets go Bucs!! Fire those f*cking cannons!!

  45. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Hit me up when you make it down here bro. I can get some stamps too man so we good regardless😄.

  46. Kobe Faker Says:

    Lol

No doubt. We need a jbf watch party at otown

  47. Ed Says:

The only thing that will stop the passing game with Jameis and his weapons is-

Holding on to the ball too long, taking too many hits and fumbling.

    Dumb interceptions.

No,secrets, cut down on turnovers by 25% from last year and Bucs will win 10 or more games.

Jameis must take care of the ball better to make this a playoff team.

  48. Trubucfan22 Says:

Ed, winston had those issues last season because he had no other weapons besides ME. Teams shutdown ME and who did winston have to throw to? Hump can’t run routes. Brate is a pretty good TE but far from an elite talent. He does have good intangibles, that make up for his lack of natural talent though. Or should we talk about russell shepard or dontae dye? Maybe you liked what josh huff brought to the offense? Winston wont have to hold the ball for very long when he has wrs that can actually get open. He wont have to take as many risks throwing into double coverage because you can’t double cover all of our weapons anymore. No more taking hits because the ball is out on time in rhythm. A lot of the perceived issues that winston has are a product if the team that was around him. Winston can lead a horse to water, but he can’t make it drink. Jason Licht surrounded Jameis with some thristy stallions. I dont think last season’s issues will be this season problems.

  49. JJ813HeadBusta Says:
