Jameis Goes Camping
May 20th, 2017Nothing like entertainment and football rolled into one on an otherwise quiet Saturday morning.
America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, entertained and helped dozens of local youngsters at his football camp held at Sunlake High School in Land O’Lakes earlier today.
Jameis left most of the instruction to the coaches, but at one point, several Bucs players and Jameis joined in to offer tips and toss the ball around with the kids.
Among the Bucs that showed up were Gerald McCoy, Ali Marpet, Cam Brate, Kevin Pamphile, Leonard Wester, Javian Elliott, Freddie Martino, Bernard Reedy and Roberto Aguayo.
Lavonte David and Kwon Alexander also dropped by.
Jameis had the campers eating out of his hands and Jameis sure knows how to work a crowd. At one point, he instructed campers that he wanted to see them have fun. So he ordered them spike the football and dance when scoring a touchdown,
Jameis quickly apologized that he can’t dance but he then broke out into a Billy “White Shoes” Johnson number to show the kids how to celebrate.
Jameis seemed to get as much of a kick working the camp as the campers did participating. For Jameis, it’s just one way to give back to the community.
“Just being out here with the kids and [allowing them] to be able to see and touch the [Bucs] players that are out here, give them a chance to learn and to prosper,” Jameis said of what he gets out of the camp.
The fact so many Bucs showed up on their own time on a weekend morning touched Jameis, and he really liked how his teammates chipped in and, in turn, supported the community.
“It means a lot to me, especially with Gerald coming out,” Jameis. “My [younger] brother [Jonah] is in the camp and he is a big fan of Gerald.”
On seeing kids react joyfully to just catching a ball from Jameis or talking to his teammates, Jameis said, “Oh, that’s what it is all about. The more fun that I can give them, the more energy that I can bring them and the more excitement I can give them makes my day.”
Jameis went to many football camps as a youngster and one he remembered as rare camp in Birmingham run by an NFL player, former Bengals and Redskins safety Sam Shade.
“That was very influential to me.”

Nice to see how this Buc Fam still grows each year. There’s no one on the team that is out for themselves..everyone pitches in to help their teammates..
A true Buc Fam..
