Bucs Sign Ryan Fitzpatrick

May 19th, 2017

New No. 2 Bucs QB.

UPDATED 11:15 a.m. – So it looks like the Bucs no longer have the No. 32 backup quarterback in the NFL.

The Bucs have a new backup quarterback. And he is journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick. That is the word from Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Fitzpatrick, a horrid starter, is actually a decent backup. If God forbid America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, gets hurt and only misses two or three games, Fitzpatrick is good enough to guide a limping team long enough for Jameis to return.

Given their swing-and-miss back in March trying to land Nick Foles, it seems the Bucs, despite public pronouncements, were unnerved by the thought of handing the keys to untested Ryan Griffin.

Fitzpatrick, 34, was hot garbage with the Jets last season, three wins, 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 11 starts. In 2015, he had the best season of his career — 10 wins, 31 TDs and 15 picks in 16 starts.

  1. Casual Observer Says:

    Good insurance.

  2. Buc50 Says:

Good move. I don’t want him to play but if needed, he can get us through a game or two.

  3. StPeteBucsfan Says:

This just confirms that the Buc management is just as optimistic as we JBF posters are for next season.

They know we could blow a really great opportunity if #3 goes down for a few weeks and we have to simply write those games off. We are playing for Minny this year!!! No more wait until next year.

  4. JonBuc Says:

Excellent! Extremely intelligent and can actually win some games in a pinch.

  5. NJBucsFan Says:

He was really bad last year. Hopefully there is not a need to see him on the field.

  6. 941BUC Says:

Love this move.the guy can move in and out tie pocket and heals great downfield vision.strong arm and good veteran presence. He must be over toyed to have landed in this situation.hes already on his way out and now has a shot at a superbowl ring.

  7. SCBucsFan Says:

Unless you are Ryan Griffin, or Mrs. Griffin, I see no downside in this move

  8. K_bassuka Says:

Heck no! Booooooooo! Save the reps for the young guys. Fitzpatrick can’t play and has no upside.

  9. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

    Bucs Brass is ALL IN.

I can def see Fitz pulling out a win or two if called upon. He should be able to play well with Desean, Mike, OJ, and Hump to throw not counting McNichols or Sims out of the backfield.

    GREAT MOVE

  10. Say What? Says:

I bet we now lead the league in Harvard graduates on a roster!

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

This is a very very very good signing. …..especially if Jaboo goes down

  12. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Great pickup. Our 3rd guy simply can’t play so we needed him.

  13. Jonzey Says:

I think that was a great move

  14. Eric Says:

I would have preferred Foles but you guys saw what Fitz did with 2 elite receivers. He should be a great backup if necessary.

    Great news.

  15. Wausa Says:

    I love the move.
Ryan Fitzpatrick has a lot of experience in the NFL and has had some solid success.
I also think he is a good locker room guy that a young Jameis Winston will benefit from being around.

This is a win now move by the Bucs even though he is a backup and we hope he never plays a down.

  16. Bucsfanman Says:

@Joe- Doesn’t this make you feel more confident than Ryan Griffin?! This is a definite improvement.
    Smartest team in the NFL!

  17. rrsrq Says:

Josh McCown 2.0. 6 INT’s in one game, he is a gunslinger that if needed, will need to become a game manager, we have the weapons, so that should not be a problem. Hopefully, Jameis can teach the vet a thing or two.

  18. Buc1987 Says:

    🙂

  19. DB55 Says:

    GARbage

“This just confirms that the Buc management is just as optimistic as we JBF posters are for next season.”

Excellent point. They would not want to spend money on such a capable backup unless they expected a deep playoff run.

While I like the idea of grooming a young QB in the background, if Jameis goes down, this is a much better plan. Ryan Fitzpatrick is at least as capable as Mike Glennon, maybe more so.

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

    Clarify DB55. Keep in mind he’s a back-up.

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I wonder how many years this is for? If he ends up playing, this offense may make him look better than he actually is. If that’s the case, we might get trade offers if he is still under contract later.

Not great trade offers, but maybe a 5th down the road. Licht works miracles with 5th rounders.

  23. Gmarch Says:

    Holy Crap!!!

  24. Joe Says:

Sure, Fitz is garbage as a starter. Think it is fair to say that he never had offensive coaches to work with that are as smart as Dirk Koetter and Todd Monken.

  25. NewTampaChris Says:

Agree. Really good signing. Any team (not named “Patriots”) is toast if the starter goes down. But now we are a lighter shade of toast than we were before.

  26. martinii Says:

This could be one of the best moves the Buc’s have made since the departure of Mike Glennon. I have been concerned that with all the high octane additions the Buc’s have made this off-season that leaving them to a QB with no Game time Experience was dangerous. Not saying Fitzpatrick is a potential starter, but with the new resources he could be an excellent back-up if God forbid we need one.

  27. PlayoffBucs Says:

I wish i had more thumbs to give this move 4 thumbs up!!!!

    Licht strikes again!!!

  28. RayJameisStadium Says:

    BOOM!!!!! The Cannons just FIRED!!!!!!

After the Super Bowl Win Licht will have a statue erected at ONE BUC PALACE!!!

    Infamaous Dave just got hammered!

    In Licht We Trust!!!

  29. tmaxcon Says:

fitzpatrick is experienced but hardly instills confidence in anyone.

  30. Eric Says:

You guys realize this is the first time in a long, long time the front office is making moves that we all respect. I swear with lovie it was like what?! Collins, Johnson, McCown, run the clock with 3 timeouts in the end of the 2nd, start mccown over glennon, never blitz, etc.

I have 100% in everything Licht has done. Except Aguayo lol. These are moves I would make.

  31. tmaxcon Says:

Fitzpatrick is a huge upgrade over glennon he actually plays with passion and has led his team to a few meaningful wins. Glennon is NOT a proven backup. the heartless loser only has entered 3 games as a backup and none did he impact. so stop with the glennon proven backup BS

you wont be seeing fitzpatrick diving out of bounds before a first down marker like a little punk the way glennon did.

  32. Buc1987 Says:

    Remember Rob Johnson?

Fitz is better than Rob. Not much better, but better.

  33. ZZBucs!!! Says:

    very smart move!!!!

  34. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Absolutely great move, the guy is a solid backup that is what he is here from and he can be a great mentor/coach to jameis evaluating the game as it is going on from someone who has been there and if the OL doesnt protect jameis and god forbid jameis is out a few games, fitz could do well coming in

  35. Buc1987 Says:

Eric..to me this means they are seriously going to make a run at this thing…this season. They’re doing the right things.

  36. Eric Says:

    completely agree buc1987

A big difference that none of us probably realize either is these guys want to come here.

Wonder if djax, fitz, folk, baker, Wilcox, ayers, grimes, etc would have come here if lovie was head coach ha.

  37. DB55 Says:

12 TDs 17 TDs. Dude is garbage. Shouldn’t even be in the league, back-up or not.

  38. BigHogHaynes Says:

Would have been a lot better off with COLIN…FITZ is not the answer, what a cop out…this is a joke..the absolute worst…total fiasco!!

  39. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Im with you Big Hog licht is an idiot should have brought Kapernick to a military town and dare him not to stand for the national anthem….great point!!!

  40. DB55 Says:

    Joe

FYI- The site has been lagging for me for the last 3 days. Can’t write in the comments I have to use notes then copy paste over.

  41. Buccaneer scotty Says:

    I like it!GO BUCS!!

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    tmaxcon Says
“fitzpatrick is experienced but hardly instills confidence in anyone.”

It shows the Bucs are confidence that they will need a solid backup for the playoffs.

Imagine if we go all the way and win the Superbowl…his trade value would instill confidence 😉

  43. mike10 Says:

Love this signing for so many reasons:

    1. The jets as a whole were a mess last year. But the year before Fitz was a pretty good starter.
    2. It is foolish to say we don’t need a backup bc without Winston the season is toast. We have far too many offensive weapons to have that big of a drop off between your starting and back up QBs. If we need 2 games out of him, any legit backup can win with our spectacular offense (dam it feels good to say that).
    3. JW has long needed a vet backup, and Fitz is just about as good as we could have asked for. Mentally strong, smart, family oriented, already been paid, and a leader. Would love to see him as a mainstay at backup for years to come.. similar to Hasselback behind Luck.
    4. He’s an upgrade over Glennon

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @DB55

    Clear cookies and history.

  45. Joe Says:

Calm down. You know Joe loves ya but this is just trolling.

Fitz had one good year. One! And when the Jets needed one win from him to make the playoffs Fitz puked all over himself.

Not saying Glennon is the second coming but not sure Fitz is better. He does have more experience, true. And Fitz did go to Harvard. Other than that, it’s six in one hand half-dozen in another.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    BigHogHaynes Says
“Would have been a lot better off with COLIN…”

Are you freaking kidding me???? Wow. Just. Wow.

  47. TampaTown Says:

The Harvard newsletter has got to be on overdrive! Wonder if we’ll get one of their beat reporters to cover the Bucs season. Mr Bottomtooth perhaps. Will Fitz and Brate be discussing Macro economics in addition to the playbook? I think it’s a great move. Sigh of relief. Whew 😅

  48. DR FEELGOOD Says:

I love this signing. With the new weapons we have on offense, I think he would certainly have a good chance at helping us win games. Two years ago, when he had a healthy Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall, they were one game from the playoffs. Granted, he sh&t the bed the last game in Buffalo, but a lot of people sh&t the bed in Buffalo in that bitter December cold.

  49. Kobe Faker Says:

    Great Move!!!!!!!

Fitz is going to help out Jaboos mental game 100X

    LOVE IT

    BEFORE the OTAs

    MARK IT DOWN!!!

This is the beginning of Fitz coaching career

I see Fitz being the HC in Tampa in 10 years

You know he’s right. Fitz is better then Kap in opposite world. I’m dying to bust out the race card.

Btw clearing history helped a little bit thanks.

  51. R.O. Says:

Not a Fitz fan.. But “Horrid” is a bit of a stretch. 2010-2015 he was decent. Too many picks but still had a QB Rating in the 80’s. Played on bad franchises also.

  52. buccfan305 Says:

Did they not see how he played with the Jets????

I reeeeeeeeaaaaally hope he NEVER has to play. Matter of fact, I hope hes just there to push the other back ups. Freaking Interception machine. He played like $#!t for the Jets and then had the nerve to holdout for more money the next year. LMFAO!!! we would be better with Josh McCown as a backup.

  53. Gencoimports Says:

Thumbs up to this signing. Fitz can be decent with the right weapons around him.

  54. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Exactly 87, these are not”lets just be happy with getting in the tournament for the first time”type of moves. These are lets go win a d@$! championship moves. Y’all can pump y’all brakes. Me I’m “All Gas no brakes”.

  55. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    2015 – 3900 yards / 31 TDs / 15 ints

He doesn’t need to be all world, just someone who’s been there and won’t completely wilt.

  56. Rich Says:

Dumb, just plain dumb. Waste of money. I would’ve rather just used Griffin who never plays. This guy was an egomaniac last year for the jets as he stunk it up. Hopefully Jameis doesn’t get hurt for a long period of time.

  57. Eric Says:

Not only are these win now moves, these are moves that will extend into the future. I’m not referring to Fitz but we have $ and leverage. We are not in win now or else mode. We’re in let’s win now for a long long time mode.

  58. JayBucBoi Says:

    A “win now” move.

  59. The Buc Realist Says:

    Great move Bucs!!!!!!!!

Do not be surprised when this team only carries 2 QB’s!!!!!!!!!

    Go BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  60. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Also Mike10 I read an article just yesterday Matt Forte said no-one in that lockerroom played as a team last season. He said everyone played for themselves up in newyork last year.

  61. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Glad that see Jason Licht read my earlier posts on Fitz and took my advice. I mean isn’t that what NFL GM’s do…go to fan sites and head the advice of all us “armchair GM’s”. 🙂 Seriously though, I think this was a very smart move. Now Jason L if you’re reading this while drinking a celebratory cold one after the Fitz signing…Doug Martin will return to his “contract year” form, so don’t let the doubters sway you lol

  62. The Buc Realist Says:

The Bucs tried to get Nick Foles as a backup, but I think they got a better backup in Ryan Fitzpatrick!!!!!!!!

Do not be surprised when this team only carries 2 QB’s!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  63. DB55 Says:

In order for this to be a win now move you would have to sign a qb that is actually capable of winning.

Case in point, 2 years ago we needed an edge rusher. Dwight Freeny is available. We didn’t even call him, he takes the cardinals to the NFC championship. The Buc are not nor have they ever been about winning. And when you sign Fitz over Kap it’s abundantly obvious.

  64. RayJameisStadium Says:

@DB55 I used to have the same issues and having to copy and paste my comments.

Get Kaspersky Total Security! Since getting it, it blocks unnecessary “stuff” from websites and allows your computer to run faster. Everything is back to normal for me now. Good Luck!!!

  65. D-Rome Says:

This is interesting news for sure. Comrade Kaepernick would have been a better choice. I wonder if the Bucs even bothered to reach out to him. They should have as he is a better QB than Fitzpatrick.

  66. Buc1987 Says:

    Daddy’s flown across the ocean
    Leaving just a memory

Daddy what else did you leave for me?
Daddy, what’d’ja leave behind for me?!?
All in all it was just a brick in the wall.
All in all it was all just bricks in the wall.

  67. RayJameisStadium Says:

    @nole Petal to the Metal!!!

Jameis’s personality is taking over One Buc Place!

    Shoot them cannons!!!!!!

  68. Pickgrin Says:

Great signing. I hope he never plays a meaningful snap – but great pick up as an insurance policy.

Fitz was easily the best option available to back up Winston. Those calling him “garbage” are wrong. Fitz can ball with some talent around him. Definite upgrade over Glennon IMO.

Win it all NOW mode! Love it!!

  69. mike10 Says:

For the record, we got too good of a thing going on for Kap to come over and even threaten messing it up.

Last thing we need is Evans having an enabler from in-house

  70. The Buc Realist Says:

No way commie kaepernick was ever considered!!!! There is a blue print for Qb’s on this roster and that is to work hard and know the playbook!!!! and kaepernick does not fit that mold!!!!!!!!! and is the reason he does not have a job!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Truth. Justice and The American Way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  71. K2 Says:

Good solid backup QB! Great signing!

  72. The Buc Realist Says:

Actually sheep!!!! What I just said was not fair, It is possible that he works hard!!! But that would just mean he is not smart and cannot understand the playbook like Jfro-6pak!!!!

Go Truth. Justice and The American Way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  73. LakeLandBuc Says:

I said before Mike Glennon signed with the Bears, that the Bucs should sign Brian Hoyer or Ryan Fitzpatrick as their backup QB. I like Kap, but he will never fit in Tampa. His best interest is to sign with Seattle.

  74. StPeteBucsfan Says:

Chill guys. Fitzpatrick isn’t coming here to be our starting QB. He has shown in the past that he “can” win and if we believe this team is a good as we hope he should be able to serve as a “caretaker” for a few games.

Let’s face it…if #3 goes down for the season early it’s all over anyway..If heaven forbid #3 got a career ending injury we’ll be looking to draft in that flush QB group of ’18. Fitz is not here to be our franchise QB. But IMHO he does have enough experience and ability to fill in for some games. If Fitz could just go 2-2 over a 4 games stretch that might be enough to keep us alive for #3.

One thing is sure…if this team makes the playoffs nobody will want to play us.
We’ll be that dangerous team…a team that can’t beat anybody but sadly also lose to anybody.

  75. JTHV Says:

LOLOL … Report: “Bucs sign Backup ______”

Buc fans – bitch bitch bitch bitch

  76. Pickgrin Says:

    Think about this.

We upgrade the backup QB position – Fitz > Glennon

AND we get a comp pick next year for “losing” Glennon to a big contract with da Bears.

That’s how ya do it Jason Licht. Cheers my man!

  77. EP Says:

Fitzpatrick not on that list yet…we could still be 32nd LOL

  78. Eric Says:

The guy has proven he can play in the league, cant really hold him responsible for that horrific jets team from last year.

    Excellent pick up.

  79. Vico Says:

    Better late than Glennon.

  80. DB55 Says:

Fitz is treading on twitter. If u don’t believe me see what the rest of the world has to say.

  81. DB55 Says:

    Ryan Fitzpatrick 2016: 12 TDs, 17 INTs, $3MIL in 2017

Colin Kaepernick 2016: 16 TDs, 4 INTs, Unemployed in 2017.

    Let’s stop pretending.

  82. Kevin Nieto Says:

As Back-up QB’s go – the Bucs could have done much worse.

  83. DB55 Says:

Ryan Fitzpatrick Who Has Thrown 32 Ints in Last 2 Years Signs With Bucs; Kaepernick Still Waiting For Call

  84. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Sure, Fitz is garbage as a starter. Think it is fair to say that he never had offensive coaches to work with that are as smart as Dirk Koetter and Todd Monken.

    *Cough Chan Gailey

  85. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    DB55

Yeah I was hoping for Kap too. But it looks like, he’s staying in the Pacific North West.

  86. Gt40bear Says:

I’ll take it. Maybe with the weapons and overall better team around him…if he HAS to play, his garbage wouldn’t be quite so hot!

  87. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Solid Veteran signing though.
    I respect the move

  88. LifeOfABucFan Says:

I think Kap wants a starter job, not a backup job..Fitz will be 36 this year..so the argument has no merit..

  89. Buccfan37 Says:

In unison, JAMEIS WILL NOT GET INJURED THIS SEASON! No way no how, a better chance for Niburu to be approaching Earth.

  90. Bucsfanman Says:

Ok, I’ll bite and stir the pot. Why not? Some here were more than willing to sign or draft over-the hill players who either beat women or beat children. Yet, a 28 year old with decent stats, mind you, is off the table because he kneeled during the anthem?! There is so much hypocrisy in that it’s not even funny.
Kap IS a better QB than Fitz. He’s been better than Fitz every single year that he’s been in the league. It is completely unbelievable that Glennon (at least for a moment) will be a starter and a guy who led his team to 2 division championships and 1 Super Bowl does not have a job, even as a back-up.

  91. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    DB55 Says
“In order for this to be a win now move you would have to sign a qb that is actually capable of winning.”

Colin has the potential to be better…but he’s blacklisted for a reason. He didn’t take the knee the first time because he had a cause…he did it because he was lazy and not thinking. Then, when there was media backlash he came up with a justification.

At least that’s what I believe.

Regardless, bringing in Coliin would be a public relations nightmare at a time when the Bucs are FINALLY starting to regain public trust. It would he a dumb move.

A backup should be a guy who can win 3-5 games yet does not create controversy.

There is nothing racial about this. It is patriotism, pure and simple.

  92. mike n Says:

THIS IS A GREAT SIGNING. When Jameis is banged up and can’t finish a game or misses a start, this guy will be great in a pinch. I wouldn’t want him as a long term starter but with the weapons he will have, he will be a great short term solution. And at 3 million dollars, that is dirt cheap for a quality back up. He can pass some knowlege on to Jameis too.

  93. DB55 Says:

    Luv

That’s bc you have a clue.

  94. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Bucsfanman

maybe it was that time he called another player the N-word on the field and then was fined $11,000 in 2015, or when he wore the “cops are pigs socks” or when he wore the castro t-shirt, or that time in miami with that girl!!!!!!!!!!!
Or maybe he does not work hard and does not know the playbook!!!!

whatever the reason of the many, he does not fit the mold of a TampaBay QB!!!!! You have to work hard, know the playbook, and buy in to this team!!!!!!!! he would not fit here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Truth. Justice and The American Way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  95. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    Bucsfanman..

How do you know Kap wasn’t approached by Bucs or others??
Kap has made it pretty clear he does NOT want a backup gig..

  96. DB55 Says:

he called another player the N-word
    ———
But Reilly Cooper can get a try-out no problem. Come on man!

  97. DB55 Says:

Realist never replies to me I wonder what I did to him?

  98. Costa Rica John Says:

I like this signing. He is a smart quarterback and is capable of winning. The Jets had no one around him last year. With all the weapons for Winston Fitzpatrick will have a chance to succeed in Tampa much like Tom Brady’s backups do in New England. For those of you wanting Kap I don’t agree at all. He chose to sit for the national anthem mich like Evans did here in Tampa. Jamie’s was able to get Evans head turned around positively after that incident. I don’t want Kap here bringing negativity and possibly upsetting the chemistry on the team. Go Bucs!

  99. DB55 Says:

Ya realize that just yesterday the cop that shot a unarmed black was set free. AGAIN! What Kap did and is doing is his right. When cops start killing unarmed white girls please let me know how that make you feel. Then come back to me after a white girl is killed every week for what seems like months and all the cops walk.

Thank god for Muhammad Ali and others who used there stage to voice the feeling of millions of Americans without a voice or platform.

  100. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Fitz is a great signing to be our backup. he is a vet who does his job

  101. NFLNut Says:

GREAT SIGNING … if for no other reason than he’s a SMART veteran that can teach Jameis a few things while holding a clipboard …

  102. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    DB55

The yougman to advantage of his natural human right to peaceful protest.
It’s not like Kap was walking around talking about “peaceful ethnic cleansing”.
Preaching seperatism, (BS) sovereign citizen extremism, and hate.

Now that would be a different story.

  103. NFLNut Says:

DB55 … I believe the statistics show that Cops shoot whites more than blacks on average … it’s just that no one care and whites haven’t marched in the street demanding justice.

I am in no way justifying police behavior but your comment about “white girls” was stupid.

  104. LUVMYBUCS Says:

The yougman took advantage of his natural human right to peaceful protest.

  105. Bucamania Says:

    GREAT move. Perfect backup QB.

    Kaepernick is a loser.

  106. LakeLandBuc Says:

I believe Ryan Fitzpatrick is a good signing by the Bucs. But it’s a insignificant signing. I don’t believe we’re a playoff team with Jameis, and I certainly don’t believe we’re a playoff team with Fitzpatrick as his backup. There are more important positions to address than the backup QB position.

  107. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    NFLNut

    ARMED vs UNARMED

The vast majority of those shot and killed by police were ARMED and half of them were white. Still, police killed blacks at three times the rate of whites when adjusted for the populations where these shootings occurred. And although black men represent 6 percent of the U.S. population, they made up nearly 40 percent of those who were killed while UNARMED.

Criminal justice trends generally are calculated by rate, rather than raw numbers. A per capita calculation of crime gives a more accurate representation of the risk of certain crimes to a community, rather than raw numbers.

In this case, looking at crimes simply as the raw number of white people affected vs. the number of minorities affected is misleading. By definition, there are fewer minorities.

  108. DB55 Says:

    Nflnut

Can you show me 1 example? Please don’t call me stupid. Thank you sir.

  109. Cobraboy Says:

    Solid.

  110. Tbbucs3 Says:

There’s alot of things that Jameis can learn from Ryan Firtpatrick. Always been a solid vet w playoff expirance.

And why would Licht ever wanna sign Kaepernick from a football standpoint (hasn’t been good in years) and look at the distraction he brings, this article wasn’t even about Kaepernick.

  111. Bucballbaby84 Says:

Just so everyone knows his nickname is Amish Slinger. Not fitzmagic.

  112. Buc1987 Says:

    The shield is the shield.

    Kap stepped on the shield.

    Hence no call.

  113. JabooBuc Says:

DB55- sorry dude but this whole thing about Kap is just dumb. First, you don’t know if they did or did not approach him. Second, Kap wants to contend for a starting job. In case you hadn’t noticed, we finally have a franchise QB here. Why would he even want to come here? There are jobs out there that he could compete for now and I’m quite sure that’s what he is interested in.

Finally, regarding his politics, i believe most reasonable adults respect his right to protest. It seems that he and others that may support him have a real problem respected those that may disagree.

  114. mark2001 Says:

Seems like a good choice on many levels….not a threat to Jameis, experience in the league he can share, an upgrade to the current backups, a guy that understands his place in the league, and a guy that can help you win a game or two if Jameis goes down.

  115. Bucsfanman Says:

@87- That may be the best explanation yet.

Look, I don’t particularly care for the guy either but you cannot tell me with a straight face that he’s not as good as if not better than at the very least, the 32 back-ups in this league?!

@Realist- Is wearing a stupid t-shirt illegal? Socks? Is using a racial slur illegal?
He may not fit the mold of a TB QB but he does not deserve to be blatantly black-balled for being stupid. Heck, if we started black-balling stupidity there wouldn’t hardly be any posters to JBF!!!

  116. Bucsfanman Says:

I still can’t believe that Tulsa cop walked. They had video freaking evidence! I just don’t know.

  117. Bradinator Says:

Good Signing! Fitz would have been better last year, but he got zero training camp reps or any offseason at all since the Jets were playing games about signing him. They Brandon Marshall and nothing else on O. He was doomed from the beginning. Don’t get me wrong, he’s not great, but he is smart and knows the score here in Tampa. Good Backup signing. Anyone that says Kap would have been better knows zip. That dude couldn’t push Blaine Gabbert aside on a lousy team.

  118. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Bucsfanman

maybe the lesson here is don’t do PCP and listen to cops when they tell you not to walk away, when they tell you to stop after they have already apprehended you!!!!!!!!!!

The blue print has been laid out, do what the cops say then hire a lawyer!!!!!! you will live every time!!!!!!!!! That is the American way!!!!!!!!!

  119. Buc Fan in NC Says:

Kap is blackballed. Plain and simple. @Bucsfanman did you really expect a guilty verdict? Eric Garner Rodney King Tamar Rice Alton Sterling and it just keeps going. Cops killing unarmed black men and getting off is as American as apple pie. You think Kap being unsigned is a coincidence.

  120. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    The Buc Realist

So isn’t that what Charles Kinsey was doing?

  121. The Buc Realist Says:

    @luvmybucs

miami is not part of america!! I was almost shoot in miami!!!! getting shot in miami is like being in traffic in Tampa!!!!!! Poeple move from miami to mexico!!!!

  122. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    The Buc Realist

Lol, U burnt the F%$K out.

So the more racial diverse the city – the less American it is?

So if Miami’s not apart of US now? What about Mount Pleasant, South Carolina or Duluth,Minnesota, and Livonia, Michigan? Lol, don’t count either?

    GTFOH..lol

  123. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    The Buc Realist

Tell the truth. Outside almost being shot that one time.
For the most part U have a good time everytime U go down?

  124. The Buc Realist Says:

    @luvmybucs

I just came back from Europe just over 2 weeks ago, and with everything going on there, I still felt safer their than miami.

But yes, I did have fun there each time!!!! I still do think that it was the zulu nation that I had to run for my life from down there though!!!! My honorary brotha card does not work everywhere down there!!!!!!!!

  125. Bucsfanman Says:

Hey, I don’t disagree. But, does he deserve to die for it?

@Buc Fan in NC- Actually I kind of did. I mean I know we weren’t shown all the footage but I have a hard time reasoning that the cop felt “threatened”. No pepper spray? No tazer? No billy-club? WTH, straight to the gun?!!! She couldn’t have shot him in the back of the leg?

  126. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    The Buc Realist

    lol

  127. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    The Buc Realist

We gon need to revoke your hood pass for at least week for that one.

  128. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Good Sh!t

Yeah, the wife keeps beggin me, to take her on a romantic, Norwegian river cruise from Bergen to Kirkenes.

  129. The Buc Realist Says:

    @luvmybucs

Like I said, I did not ask for any ID!!!!!! But I would have gave joey galloway a run for his money that day!!!!!!!

Anyhow, I think it has expired!!! I am trying to get Bighogheinous to renew it, but that is working as well as the DMV!!!!!!!!

That PCP is bad stuff, The slogan should go ” Do PCP, get shot!!”

All Cops are trained to De-escalate a situation once they have it under control, then they try to figure out what happen, and who is right and who is wrong!!!! If you push back or not listen, They will De-escalate with more intensity!!!

Don’t push back!!! say yes officer, no officer, then hire a lawyer and get out of it like the rest of us!!!!!!!!!!

  130. The Buc Realist Says:

    @luvmybucs

we flew direct from miami to Barcelona , then came back from madrid to miami on delta for $500!!!!! we just trained around the whole time to seville and granada!!!!!

  131. Bucsfanman Says:

Realist that sounds pretty reasonable for a Madrid flight.

  132. SB Says:

Just a thought……….How many other teams have TWO Harvard Grads on the roster.

  133. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    The Buc Realist

Communities are tired of Law Enforcement Officers having zero accountability for their actions.

Plus they’ve got to do a better job of weeding out the Corrupt/Bad elements within their rank and file. The bad apples must be squeezed out to prevent them from mentoring others.

    That’s all. Cut-and-dried

  134. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    The Buc Realist

    Solid deal on the flight.
    Your 1st time to Granada?

  135. DB55 Says:

    Realist

Comply and you’ll be okay huh? Yea about that ….http://www.worldstarhiphop.com/videos/video.php?v=wshh956et7CRx6Dv7Kx7

  136. bucs_365 Says:

Those 2015 stats look pretty good. He can be effective as a backup in an offense with talent around him. Solid signing.

  137. The Buc Realist Says:

yes, been to Barcelona a couple of times and Bilboa and san sebastian, on other trips then headed into France. But that was the first time in all those other cities!!!! have you been to germany on the rhine area??? we stay almost a week in Koblenz, you can cruise the river and stop and hike up to all the castles and the wine and beer was very good there, Your wife would love it!!!!!

I just saw the same deal still up, and before the trip their was Ft.myers to Dusseldorf Germany for about the same price, ( but it had 1 stop I think)

  138. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I BS u not. About a week ago we we’re just looking at, that castle “Eltz” above the Mosel river between Eifel and Hunsruck mountains.

Any thoughts on Lake Bled Slovenia?

  139. The Buc Realist Says:

    @luvmybucs

It is pretty awesome there, There are just tons of castles on the river and it is novice hill hiking to get up to them. and you can get a regional train ticket for 20 euro for 5 people and ride all day!!!! we would wait until the end of the day and they have 4 big ferry boats that just stop at each town up and down the river. some towns have a chair left that you can ride up then hike down!!!!! It was by far my favorite part of Germany!!!

  140. The Buc Realist Says:

    @DB55

Come on man, you can find a better video than that!!!!!!! and do you really think he “complied” or was he telling the cop “I know my rights”!!!!!!!

be quiet, say whatever will get you out of their the fastest, let them book you, Hire a lawyer, and get off, and you won’t get tased!!!!! fight in court!!!! not while getting arrested!!!!!!

And there cops out on a power trip!!!!! and there are some that are racist!!!!! I don’t want anyone to get shot!!!!!! and I recommend to everyone not to “challenge” the cops!!!!! I wonder how many shootings would be avoided if everyone was not trying to escalate the situation!!!!

and if you really love your lady, go down to munich, then take a train to salzburg austria!!!!! Take her to get a cafe and the best chocolate cake in Europe (the sacher torte)at the sacher hotel!!!!! Then over to the Mirabell Palace and get the tickets for the concert in advanced!!!! dress appropriate of course!!!!!!

  143. Mo_Downs Says:

    Yawn…Fitz to the Bucs…zzzzzzzz

I’m REALLY glad that Glennon is (penciled in..so far) getting a chance to start in Chicago. All the Buc fans clamoring for Glennon to start during the Lovie Era will find out how he performs with a world class running game and very little talent across their receiving corps.

And, not to be “that guy”, but, I’m not sure what (positive?) experience Fitz will bring to the table to aid JW’s development. I think the coaches(?) will do their job and continue to develop our superstar QB.

Let’s hope Fitz will get on the field (a lot) in the final 7 minutes of a blowout and keep JW from getting killed in the final minutes of a 20pt. plus blowout win.

Sports analysts often use the phrase: “How much tread is left?”
A flat tire in your driveway is a far cry from having to drive 10 miles on a flat.

    Go Bucs…!!!

  144. Papa578 Says:

Bighog, you are off your rocker. Colin is a locker room, team image albatross. Stay outta here with that nonsense.

  145. Rod Munch Says:

Hum… I’d have rathered have taken a flyer with RG3 myself – he has a strong arm and is actually a good deep ball thrower. Fitz doesn’t have a good arm, that’s always been the issue with him – he just can’t make all the throws in particular if the weather gets bad – and Dirk runs a throw deep offense, so he’d have to adjust. Also the other issue with Fitz is he’s always seemed like a guy who was a troublemaker if he wasn’t starting – but perhaps that’s just an outside perception issue or perhaps he fully understands his role and will be happy with it.

So the Bucs have now signed 2 former Jets, Folk and Fitz. Two F’s, hopefully that isn’t a sign.

  146. Fred E. Bucs Says:

Very happy with this. The last outright “hole” in the roster is filled. Now there will be a competition for the third spot…a guy that we hope never dresses for a game.

  147. Trubucfan22 Says:

DB55, annually, police kill more white people than black people. I dont know the unarmed statistics. But im sure a smart guy like yourself could look it up.

  148. Bird Says:

Great move. Comments here are a joke. He can play. Yah he had that terrible year and is older but he was on a jets team that was toxic. Not his fault. Players respected him. Hard worker. Good teammate. He can fill in nicely with these weapons if James is down for a game or two. Plus he can give insight on jets division. He is not hot garbage. Gimme a break with that comment.

  149. Fred E. Bucs Says:

TruBuc…looks to me like if he was causing trouble every day in the neighborhood, brandishing what looks like a firearm, and a bit of a smart azz at that, dude got what he deserved. Color doesn’t matter. That’s all I have to say about that.

    Back to football.

  150. Michael Duggan Says:

I would never touch Kaepernick. I hope he never plays again in the NFL, good move 🙂

  151. Buccfan37 Says:

Big freaking deal Kaepernick did not stand for the war chant national anthem.

  152. SteelStudBuc Says:

    Good signing by the Bucs.
Ryan Griffin just isn’t good enough for the big leagues.
Hoping Jameis is an iron man. Don’t wanna see Fitzpatrick in action. Preseason will let us know where he’s at.

  153. KingBuc17 Says:

Great pick up and a reasonable insurance policy with no baggage, thank you Dirk and Licht. Greeat work. Excellent career stats, smart and tough. Little bit of a gun slinger but is also mobile. Might be able to manage a few game, (hope not), but I like him better than anything on this roster behind JWinston.

  154. KingBuc17 Says:

Love the people that wanted Kaep… Ha ha.

You really think Licht would bring that crap in hear to the Buc family. Home of CENTCOM and he wouldn’t stand for the red/white/blue national anthem… are you crazy to bring that headcase in here to to RAJAY. We are building a tight knit family here in Tampa and Ryan Fitz is smart, tough and will be a good insurance policy.

  155. KingBuc17 Says:

  156. KingBuc17 Says:

I wish everyone would quit writing about Colin Kaepernick….blackballed are you kidding me, that LAQB has made $43.5M in his 5 years on the field in the country that he despises so much.
He can go try and make that in Canada or working a day job. He put himself before the team, players and fans. He had enough money to do far more to protest or instill his political views than USE the game that has given him soooo much.

  157. BartButtplug Says:

    Fitz > Glennon

  158. I bleed red Says:

I think it is a good one year stop gap. My concern is, if Winston goes down we are in trouble anyway, so why not lean on Griffin, or Renfree. How else will we know how they perform in actual game time conditions? Fitz is smart but clearly his best days are behind him.
