No GOAT (Yet)
April 30th, 2017No, Joe’s not talking about Sabby the Goat here.
Yesterday in his post-draft presser, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager detailed the research he and his staff did on third-round pick Kendell Beckwith of LSU. Licht noted he and his staff had been researching him for two years, initially thinking Beckwith may enter the 2016 draft but he stayed in school.
But Licht had an ace up his sleeve when doing homework on Beckwith, and that was a former teammate of Beckwith: Kwon Alexander.
“I’ve got intel from Kwon,” Licht said of Beckwith. “Kwon was very excited [about the Bucs selecting Beckwith]. He was on cloud nine. He sent me a text message with a picture of a goat. I wouldn’t go that far.
“[Kwon is] really happy to have his buddy here and he’s going to compete for a starting role at SAM.”
The more Joe does research on Beckwith, the more Joe thinks the team may have gotten great value if not a steal.
Beckwith was selected with the final pick in the third round — the Bucs swapped a fourth and sixth pick to the Jets — and Joe was told by a Bucs staffer “there was a reason” the Bucs traded up.

The way some of the comments are posted on who is drafted, they must think the coaches use a dart board.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:10 am
WHOA!!!!!!! SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!
Beckwith has to prove he can come back from that injury 100% and then learn the complexities of the NFL……
…..then maybe….just maybe……he can contribute
this guy is nothing more than a project for the first year and we’ll know in year two if he can even cut it in the NFL
April 30th, 2017 at 8:13 am
He needs to be ready if the Bucs are going to play some 3-4. Wondering if Spence will be a OLB in those sets with Kwon and Beckwith inside?
April 30th, 2017 at 8:16 am
I think Beckwith will be a fine player for our Bucs.
It’s sad that there is so much butt hurt out there bc we waited until round 5 to take a RB.
I am stoked with our draft. I was won over when we got OJ Howard in round 1.
The Bucs got better over the past few days, and that excites me.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:20 am
Joe do you have a list of the in drafted free agents the Bucs have signed? Looks like we took a QB out of Colorado, but invent seen a complete list yet. I was hoping we may get a QB like a Kaaya to compete for backup, but he didn’t fall that far of course. Like us to get one of the high rated I drafted guys. Thanks!
April 30th, 2017 at 8:22 am
Yeah how bout some real news what’s going on with the undrafted F/A
April 30th, 2017 at 8:24 am
Kendell Beckwith played in both 3-4 and 4-3 defense at LSU. He should have came out last season with Deion Jones and he would have been a 2nd Round pick like Jones. He made Coaches 1st Team All-SEC as a LB..and the SEC was loaded with good Linebackers. Duke Riley, Reuben Foster, Jarrad Davis, Zach Cunningham, Ryan Anderson, Tim Williams, Jordan Jones, Alex Anzalone, Jalen Reeves-Maybin.

The New York Giants are bringing in top UDFA. OT Chad Wheeler, WR Travis Rudolph, S Jadar Johnson, DT Jarron Jones. The Bucs haven’t been as fortune.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:29 am
I really believe that Kendell Beckwith will be a star in this league.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:30 am
Oh it was a steal….2nd rounder if not for the acl. Could be our future (larger) MLB while Kwon moves inside…just saying.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:37 am
At least we signed Bobo Wilson. I was really hoping for Stringfellow or Rudolph, but Wilson is still at LEAST 8x better than A lounge singer or a medical van transport driver. He’s really small, but I could see him being the #5 WR or 6 if they sign Jackson back.
Either way, I’m glad they got a decent WR to round out the WR corps. Now there’s no reason to bring any of those slobs back
April 30th, 2017 at 8:37 am
Watched him play he was real good player in SEC, but this is another dunderhead move, licht reaches way too much
April 30th, 2017 at 8:40 am
The Bills, who play the Bucs this year, just fired their GM the day after the draft
April 30th, 2017 at 8:45 am
No anthem- “YOU SLOW DOWN” They moved up for the kid. You don’t move up for a project. The gm just said he will compete for the starting Sam. Therefore he’ll compete for the Sam. Some of you blow my mind “project at best, learn the intricacies of the league. ” Give me a break. Kwon was a freakshow day one. Lavonte freakshow day one. People say qb’s need time and jameis was robbed of rookie of the year. Fast forward tje clock and jump to 2017 please. This kid is a real and natural linebacker with a throwback size which is what we need since lavonte and Kwon are our nickel backers PERIOD.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:50 am
Dalvin Cook will play the Bucs on 9-24 in Minnesota. This site might set an all-time record for visits on that date. lol the Cook Mob will be out in full force on here.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:50 am
Not only was Beckwith selected a good value where we got him (based mainly on injury) – but the trade up was a real bargain as well.
The “value point” difference between pick # 125 (our 4th round pick worth 47 points) and pick # 107 that we traded up to (worth 80 points) = a 33 point value difference. The value of the 6th round pick (#204) we gave to move up was 9.8 points.
We got a 70% discount on the trade up in addition to good value on the player selected. Assuming we really like Beckwith’s potential (or they wouldn’t have done it) – that is quite the bargain!
Nice job Jason Licht!!
April 30th, 2017 at 8:51 am
@Gen ROFL!
April 30th, 2017 at 8:51 am
Love the physicality, Love the potential, Love that he should be ready to go by Training camp.
But I won’t lie, I was pretty bummed to find out that we traded up and that it wasn’t for Sameje.
Oh well though, In Licht we trust. O.J. and Godwin are steals. Evans could be really good, the more tape I watch on the kid, the more I think he could become a Patrick Chung type of Safety. Beckwith adds much needed physicality & size to our LB corps.
Jeremy Mcnichols was the best remaining RB when we picked him, and should compete right away for the 2nd or 3rd running back spot, adds more speed to the group, and is a surprisingly good receiver/ pass protector for a 5th rounder.
And Big Stevie should compete for the NT spot with Silliga.
All in all a solid draft.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:54 am
LOL lakeland, yeah that will be a very emotionally tense game for at least one of the Joe’s and a whole lot of JBF patrons.
We not see Nos Bos until then lol. So far he’s still in full-on Ghost/ Bet Shirker mode.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:54 am
We *may* not see…

High praise for Jeremy McNichols from Lance Zierlein.
April 30th, 2017 at 8:58 am
Blake – I was shocked. Thought for sure that trade up at the end of the 3rd was either for Perine or Mack. I’m not unhappy with the end result though. We got a hell of a deal on a potential starting LBer and also got a decent RB prospect in McNichols who was VERY productive last year (over 2100 combined yards and 27 TDs!)
April 30th, 2017 at 9:00 am
Because of his ACL, Beckwith is a risk, but a risk worth taking at that point.

Doesn’t NOS BOS owe someone on here a jersey or something?
April 30th, 2017 at 9:05 am
TheBucsAnthem: you pretty much described every single draft pick by every team. Even OJ Howard.
April 30th, 2017 at 9:06 am
If you go back to 2014, Kwon last season at LSU. Him and Beckwith had similar numbers. Kwon numbers..90 Tackles, 7.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, 1 PD..Beckwith stats…77 Tackles, 7.5 TFL, 2.0 sacks, 3 PD, 1 INT, 1 TD, 2 FR. Kendell Beckwith can play, and he have been playing at a high level at LSU for 3 seasons.
April 30th, 2017 at 9:07 am
He’s in the hole for probably around 500 bucks when everything’s counted up.
I won a $150 bet that Dalvin Cook would not become a Buccaneer. And a 100$ Bet that Joe Mixon would be drafted in the first 3 rounds.
He owes Webster a Jersey, TruBucfan22 gets to pick a new screen-name for him, and he had some more Dalvin bets with a few others.
That’s if we ever see him again. For all we know he could already be posting as somebody else.
April 30th, 2017 at 9:12 am
It would be a disgrace if he doesn’t own up to his bets.
April 30th, 2017 at 9:18 am
All in fun….dont hate on him too much…..need our fans.
April 30th, 2017 at 9:20 am
“For all we know he could already be posting as somebody else.”
I’m on the case man. I think I have his new S/N but I’ll let everyone know when he’s been outed.
He was pretty vocal on here about Erik with Clean Athletics giving me my Winston jersey after I won my bet over Mariotta vs Winston. Erik of course after awhile came through. Props again to Erik. Got that signed Jon Gruden pic up on the wall of my Buc cave too.
April 30th, 2017 at 9:27 am
Well, I gamble on scratch offs a few times a week….powerball when it gets big with one or two tickets. I was once into the gambling mania deep back in my mid 20’s, then it subsided and i realized the more important things. All good as long as you’re barely playing your stash.
April 30th, 2017 at 9:27 am
I actually think I influenced him into placing all these bets. It’s pretty crazy taking net bets against someone you might not ever see. Had I lost my bet Erik would have gotten his Mariotta jersey. Wife would have killed me, but I’m a strong believer in karma.

Max…yeah I was pretty good at betting on basketball in my early 20’s. I went on a stretch of hitting on something like 24 out of 25 games. I had one damn loss. Was on a tear. Until I got a bookie that it is…
Lived in Vegas when I was young too, bet on NCAA basketball to get money for plane tickets to come back to Florida.

Regarding NOS posting under a new name, keep your eye open for that snappy phrase “ion care”. Apparently heedu care.

April 30th, 2017 at 9:47 am
Thanks for the YouTube Blake. Just FYI, that’s McNichols.
April 30th, 2017 at 9:58 am
What some fans fail to realize, Dirk Koetter can win without a RB running for 1500 yards. Last season Quizz Rodgers was our leading rusher with 560 yards. And we barely missed the playoffs, Koetter want a RB who can block and catch the ball. When him and Mike Smith went 13-3 in Atlanta, Michael Turner was their leading rusher with 800 yards. Quizz caught 53 passes that season, that’s why Koetter brought him here and resigned him.Koetter want speed at TE,RB and WR, and he want depth. Like in Atlanta had Tony Gonzalez, Julio Jones, Harry Douglas,Roddy White, Quizz Rodgers, Michael Turner, Jason Snellings. The Bucs will have Mike Evans, Adam Humphries, Chris Godwin, Desean Jackson, Cam Brate, O.J. Howard, Doug Martin, Quizz Rodgers, Charles Sims, Jeremy McNichols. I don’t believe Koetter will settle for one RB carrying the ball 30 times a game. Koetter believe in the Vertical Offense, where different weapons get touches. That’s why I believe Koetter didn’t and wouldn’t spend a high draft pick on a RB.

Blake… I still don’t know how 18 teams passed on OJ Howard.
April 30th, 2017 at 10:25 am
@87, sorry man, was away for a bit. Man, you lived in Vegas? Sweet! I still want to go there one day. I’ll start with $100, when its gone, im done. What I win, I’ll play with half and keep half….that way I walk away with something. Walked away with $900 last time I was in Fl., Cocoa Beach on the boat. (started with 80 and tols my girl once its gone thats it) Luck smiled on me that day.
April 30th, 2017 at 11:06 am
TE Antony Auclair will be interesting to see on hard knocks. LB Bullough has a chance to make team too imo.
April 30th, 2017 at 12:07 pm
The next candidate for goat status plays the same position and was drafted in the same round by our Bucs….maybe Justin can join Tito in WWE soon after a few missed frog splashes and a heel turn
April 30th, 2017 at 12:46 pm
Pickgrin – agree, great value on that trade. Also read it would’ve cost the Bucs MUCH more if they waited until the next day and tried to get the first pick in the 4th.
April 30th, 2017 at 12:49 pm
NoS-BoS has already commented post draft, maybe I’m wrong. Lost Wages, built on gamblers fantasy that they’ll win once in a blue moon. Empty wallets win by a landslide.
April 30th, 2017 at 3:13 pm
MadMax…I was on a Casino boat once out of Clearwater. Some dude gave me free tickets so one day had nothing to do and said wtf I got $22 to my name. I was 22 yrs old back then. It was a dinner cruise so I figured free food and mess around a wee bit on video poker. 4 dollars. No lie 4 dollars into the machine and I hit a royal flush for $1000. The siren was going off and everyone piles around me. I couldn’t even think of what 4000 quarters meant. I just knew I hit something big. I spent like 10 more bucks on the machines and just went out on deck and waited to dock.
Most I ever saw anyone hit for in Vegas was on a progressive slot machine for like 28,000 or so. The lady let everyone know. lol
April 30th, 2017 at 3:40 pm
The Bucs are not playing 3-4 lol why on earth do yall keep saying that?
There may be a few sub package 3-4 plays here and there but theres going to be no switch. Ahahaha smh
April 30th, 2017 at 6:04 pm
I just want to put itout there that I’m not interested in collecting on my bet with NoSBoS.
I literally only made that bet bcuz noone had bet him yet and he was craving bets.
My gut told me that we weren’t taking Dalvin. And def not in the 1st.
We would’ve traded out of that 1st pick if Howard or Njoku wouldn’t have been available.
The only single aspect of this draft that I’m a little bummed about is not getting Perine.
Oh yea, and the panthers getting Curtis Samuel (who will be pain in our arse for the foreseeable future).
I really like all of our draft picks after doing research.
