NFL Network: Cook “Rookie Of The Year”
April 3rd, 2017Lofty standard set for a stud running back by a couple of talking heads employed by the NFL’s house organ.
In a segment last week on “Total Access,” NFL Network analysts and ex-NFL players Brian Baldinger and Heath Evans were asked to pick the 2017 NFL “Rookie of the Year.”
The duo was given the choices of Myles Garrett, DeShaun Watson, Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffery. There was also a none-of-the-above option.
Baldinger didn’t blink an eye. Neither, he said.
So who? Baldinger believes it will be Dalvin Cook.
“Can I give you a name? Because you are going to have to get used to hearing it,” Baldinger asked. “Dalvin Cook at Florida State. He will be the Rookie of the Year.”
So how did Evans respond?
“I tend to agree,” Evans said with a big smile on his face.
So there you have it; the leader to be the 2017 NFL “Rookie of the Year.” And the Bucs, terribly in need of a running back, wouldn’t want him why?
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:15 am
Come Joe don’t you know, Blake has told you he is stiff, has bad shoulders, fumbles the ball to much and wont last in the NFL. Come on Joe, silly question do you read your own comments sections? Cause if you did you would know that Blake has said this every day for the last 2 months. Oh yeah I also forgot all of his big games came against bad defenses, that is my favorite one.
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:16 am
I don’t think he will fall to us but I would be very happy if he did. For those thinking we can get someone in the later rounds, impact starters are most often found in the first. Later rounds is where you find guys like Simms.
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:17 am
Will gladly eat crow if i’m wrong.
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:17 am
Well, guess there’s no reason to play the 2017 NFL season now. Just ask Evans & Baldinger who’s going to win the Super Bowl.
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:18 am
Its not that the bucs don’t want him, just don’t trade up to get him.
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:20 am
But if Howard and him are some how still on board I’m going with howard
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:21 am
Sounds about right. I mean with ballas like ME and Desean on the outside he won’t be seeing many eight in the box looks. So count me inn with that prediction.
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:35 am
Talent is there for him to do it, but if he goes to a crap situation then he has no chance. For example if he ends up with the Jets or Jags he won’t even be in the running for it.
Heath Evans is one of my favorite analysts, Baldinger not so much. Either way them saying this means nothing to me. Zeke Elliot was the popular ROY choice last year but nobody knew the impact that Dak would have. A lot if things can change.
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:53 am
“And the 2018 Rookie MVP will be Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma.” We really need April 27th to get here in a hurry. One of my favorite parts of the draft is When we find out who our UDFA’s are. Chances are one of them will be a stater within 3 years. It is possible that Peyton Barber could have a breakout season in 2017. Just a few things to think about for the next 24 days.
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:57 am
Meh depends on what line he’s running behind. So much of the run game is dependent on the line and other weapons. Team with limited receiving threats and a good back tend to face heavy fronts
Dallas is successful not only cus of their line but because of their receiving threats. Same with Bell at Pitt, if he didn’t have Brown dictating coverages the d would clog running lanes. If cool is drafted by Cleveland or another team with not a lot of weapons he won’t get the award.
FSU fans act like this guy single handedly won them games. He’s a good player but plays a position that relies on a lot of help
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:58 am
I agree. Dalvin wins ROY
April 3rd, 2017 at 10:01 am
“FSU fans act like this guy single handedly won them games.”
Well in short…..he did.
April 3rd, 2017 at 10:19 am
Hell he won 4 or 5 games himself in Jameis’ last year at FSU. Kid’s great when the heat is on.
April 3rd, 2017 at 10:32 am
I love cook, but i think there are about 7 or 8 guys i would rather have in the first round. Garrett, barnett, thomas, williams, davis, lattimore, howard, allen. Im also tempted to say hooker and adams, even though i always say wait for the 2nd or later for safeties, same as running backs. He is a great player, but we have other holes to fill that are much harder to fill in the later rounds.
April 3rd, 2017 at 10:50 am
“And the bucs wouldn’t want him why?”
Hahaha, you kill me Joe. Maybe the Bucs won’t want him because I doubt Jason Licht and Dirk Koetter stay up all night together eating popcorn and watching NFL Network to find their draft picks.
April 3rd, 2017 at 11:06 am
Kobe is on board drafting Cook at 19
Crunched all the numbers and stats and Cook is it
*I perfer Mccafferty but koetter scheme fits with Cook. Cook is much more of a workhorse and inside runner
*Football speed. Forget the combines you draft geeks. Give Cook alittle crack/space he is gone. Stop and go is amazing
*Another gear. Homerun +20 yard carries. Cook is the anti dancing martin/Sims duet. When cook sees daylight…..north straight to paydirt giving safeties and linebackers no angles to close
*just like freeman, cook will look better in the pass catching screen game in the nfl
*the addition of djax and cook will make our weakness…offensive line, better
April 3rd, 2017 at 11:09 am
See Blake, I’m not cool with that. “Gladly eat crow if I’m wrong” nah buddy. There should be consequences for annoying other fans who don’t want to hear the pessimistic, stupid and just plain bitchy opinions about things that you clearly have no idea about or maybe I’m crazy…maybe people like you just want to be noticed. I don’t know you, but I’m assuming you have two eyes. I’m also assuming that you’ve seen Dalvin Cook play football and for anyone to watch this kid and come away saying anything other than he’s arguably the most spectacular RB prospect in one of the deepest RB drafts in a long time, but don’t draft him “Because I think blah blah blah” and “we can get one of the less spectacular running backs later” is simply stupid, idiotic and makes me want to bang my head against hard things…so if you’re wrong “eating crow” just won’t suffice sir…it just won’t. So how about this? If you’re wrong, you just go away, yes? That should be the rule for people like you that post here… Every time one of you spews this garbage and force us normal people to want to throw up in our mouths daily, just to go silent when you’re wrong and never speak of it again…Banishment should be the punishment. What say you Blake?
April 3rd, 2017 at 11:12 am
@martinii
I really like Peyton Barber also and think he could do something if he had a chance. From statements last year I think the Bucs really like him too. It would be harder to get him more touches if we do get a RB in the first, but I’m excited to see what he does in training camp, those joint practices, and preseason.
April 3rd, 2017 at 11:13 am
Myles Garrett hands downs…..GO BUCS!!!!
April 3rd, 2017 at 11:28 am
Not that anyone cares, but here is where I am about the draft:
CAR – please do not draft Cook!
TB – please draft Cook if he is there!
The rest is filler.
April 3rd, 2017 at 11:31 am
@Bushido Evans you feel how you wanna feel. I’ve stated how I feel about Cook and explained my reasoning. Most principly I don’t see him staying healthy at the next level, that’s based on his surgical injury history and a gut feeling.
And I’m not impressed by the way he got the majority on long runs to the outside on an uncontested edges. I don’t see him being successful behind our line, that’s just my opinion.
Definitely won’t be going away though. This is my team. Been a Bucs fan for my whole life.
April 3rd, 2017 at 11:31 am
I would be excited about Cook if we got him. What I’m afraid of is how many people have us taking McCaffery. He’s a really good player and would love him for special teams and his receiving abilities but he is small and doesn’t usually go up the middle. I really don’t think that stretching it to the outside type rushing works in the NFL, defenses are too fast.
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:13 pm
Some of you guys take this too serious lmao
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:14 pm
Or Fournette.
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:16 pm
Blake good points, but unlike fournette and gurly, cook doesnt want to run into walls. All runningbacks will get dinged up.
You cant dance in the nfl. You have to break tackles or takeoff north without hesitation
*he was before my time and caught alittle of him live, but i see alot of tony dorsett in dalvin….koetter loves the sweeps to the outside!
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:18 pm
It is moronic to forecast ROY not knowing where players land.
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:26 pm
Blake, use your two eyes bro. To be fair I wasn’t expecting the most rational come back…looks like I may have lumped you in with the wrong JBF crowd. For that I apologize :). I was reading comments from another post and was all fired up…my point about some fans that post here still stands though. BANISHMENT!
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:29 pm
Oh nooo Evans. Ooohh nooo. I want him around. Please believe me. Because I’m going to remind him of the nonesince he has spewed Each.And.Every.Day. Please don’t go away Blake.
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:32 pm
screw cook….defense wins championships….drafting j.davis would solidify our defense as well as provide depth and an upgrade over d.smith who gave us no production…..
starting front would be big will, GMC, baker and ayers….on 3rd down big will and baker come off the field while j.elliott and n.spence come on the field….j.davis would play every single snap….that would change our base 43 look into a nickel 34 look….something smitty wants to do….offenses wouldn’t know who’s coming or where its coming from…..GO BUCS!!!!
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:40 pm
We shall see. Oh yes, we shall see.
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:42 pm
Was Baldinger wearing porn glasses?
April 3rd, 2017 at 12:46 pm
Doubt he wins it only playing 60-70 percent of the snaps as Greg Cosell suggest…I know zeke played a lot more than that….I think a defensive player wins it this year…..Myles Garrett or Derek Barnett….GO BUCS!!!
April 3rd, 2017 at 1:00 pm
Blake is entitled to his opinion. I disagree with him, but still he can say what he likes. I am curious though, Blake, who is your college team?
April 3rd, 2017 at 1:09 pm
Round 1 – Obi Melifonwu or Budda Baker S
Round 2 – Joe Mixon or D’onta Foreman RB
Round 3 – Carlos Henderson or Juju Smith Schuster WR
Round 4 – Trey Hendrickson or Tanoh Kpassagnon DE
Round 5 – Michael Roberts or George Kittle TE
Round 6 – Tarik Cohen KR/PR/RB
Round 7 – Trevor Knight QB
April 3rd, 2017 at 1:25 pm
Don’t really have any allegiance to a college team. I root for all the florida teams.
April 3rd, 2017 at 1:47 pm
Screw jarrad whatever his last name is. Should be mr.irrelevant in refrence to the Bucs.
April 3rd, 2017 at 1:50 pm
What kind of jackwagon makes ROY predictions before the draft? That’s wankery of the highest order.
April 3rd, 2017 at 1:53 pm
Players dont develop in the NFL
Never draft athletes and tweeners
Obi Mel, David Njoku, jabrill peppers will be total busts. You need football players in the NFL not projects…You are Gambling
NEVER EVER draft a USC reciever…. Never ever (Juju)
April 3rd, 2017 at 2:01 pm
Blake_bucsfan Says:
“Iām not impressed by the way he got the majority on long runs to the outside on an uncontested edges”
LOL – That’s a lot of “uncontested edges”. So every other RB in College football had contested edges – but Cook’s 15+ TDs on big plays down the sideline were all uncontested edges….
Dalvin’s ability to get the edge and make huge plays down the sideline is one of his best attributes. It had little to do with great blocking or negligent defenders and everything to do with speed, talent and a “knack” for getting outside that very few in the history of this game have possessed.
April 3rd, 2017 at 2:16 pm
I don’t see him being able to replicate that kind of running week in and week out in the NFL. Defender’s get paid to. And the best defenses make a concentrated effort to eliminate the edge and force running backs to make their money between the tackles.
I think one too many solid hits landed on Dalvin by a brusier of a linebacker/ safety, or getting crushed beneath a 320 pound tackle, and we’re looking at another Cadillac. Good when healthy, but will he be healthy?
April 3rd, 2017 at 2:59 pm
Why would we spend our first round pick on jarrad davis who is only going to play 40% of the snaps. We dont need a replacement for kwon. Also i would not be mad over dalvin but would not be exited either. We need play maker and there are lots of backs that can do that.
And joey got it eight some of you guys take this too seriously(nosbos).
April 3rd, 2017 at 3:04 pm
So Blake – the bottom line is – you don’t want the Bucs to draft Cook because you are afraid he will get hurt…
Football is a rough game – especially for running backs. But Cook has shown that he is a gamer. only missed 1 game in 3 years. Also played knicked quite a few times and pretty much excelled on the field every time there was some question about his “health”.
FEAR = False Evidence Appearing Real
April 3rd, 2017 at 3:07 pm
You know as well as I do what dalvin cooks surgical history is. I’m not making it up. I suppose you would be fine with us drafting John Ross as well?
April 3rd, 2017 at 3:10 pm
Now that’s real talk. He played all of 2015 with a bad hammy. Didn’t complain to Jimbo just suited up and went out and balled each and every week.
April 3rd, 2017 at 3:10 pm
And here’s an acronym for you.
POOP = People Order Our Patties
April 3rd, 2017 at 3:11 pm
1 game missed..
April 3rd, 2017 at 3:12 pm
Something about those of us that seen to take it too serious. Y’all Can’t quite scroll past our comments without reading.
April 3rd, 2017 at 3:13 pm

April 3rd, 2017 at 4:11 pm
Blake says:
I suppose you would be fine with us drafting John Ross as well?
That’s a bit different in that microfracture knee surgery is serious business. But if the Bucs doctors think Ross is not “damaged goods” then yea – I could be on board with drafting the fastest player ever officially recorded at the NFL combine.
DJax has a history of missing at least a few games a season and the thought of trying to defend against Evans, DJax, Brate and Ross out of the slot with a hopefully healthy Sims coming out of the backfield is bound to give DCs nightmares…
April 3rd, 2017 at 4:16 pm
Ross, like Cook and his shoulders, played every game last season after his knee surgery. Imo, and this goes for both Cook and Ross, it isn’t how much they got hurt in college. It is how susceptible they are to RE-injury. That should be more important.
I don’t care how many games they played through hurt. If the injuries keep happening it won’t get any better…. obviously lol
April 3rd, 2017 at 4:34 pm
McCaffery or Cook for me. Been the same for about a month now. Then add more weapons down the board. Defense or offense. Prefer O, but hey can’t always get whatcha want. Even if…
New Kids On The block, had a bunch of hits
Chinese food makes me sick.
And I think it’s fly when girls stop by for the summer, for the summer
I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch,
I’d take her if I had one wish,
But she’s been gone since that summer..
Since that summer
April 3rd, 2017 at 4:39 pm
A runningback with shoulder surgeries is similar to a wr with knee surgeries. It is definitely worth concern. His tape is great. He has potential to be special in the nfl. Buy he has a history of injuries, and he had a combine that left me a little dissapointed. I am completely up in the air about him, definately things i love and definately things that scream “stay away”. It all depends on who else is available imo.
April 3rd, 2017 at 5:28 pm
@87
Summer Girls might be the worst song lyrically of all time lmao
April 3rd, 2017 at 5:53 pm
Mixon: He’s that damn good!! I don’t see any competition! Any other Running Back is UnWorthy of a First Round Pick!!
April 3rd, 2017 at 9:32 pm
Name a running back in the round round that didn’t have injuries.
April 4th, 2017 at 12:12 am
Sorry to say, but if he’s really a game changer he won’t be there at #19 – if he’s there at #19… – well, you all know, what 18 NFL execs think of him…
