Humphries Wants “Hard Knocks”
April 14th, 2017Add Rudy to the growing list of Bucs players that want the team featured on “Hard Knocks.”
Two weeks ago at the NFL owners meetings, winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said he and his staff had no fear of the Bucs being featured on “Hard Knocks,” the NFL Films-produced, HBO reality series that takes viewers behind the curtain during a team’s training camp and preseason.
Last week, Bucs middle linebacker Kwon Alexander took to Twitter to campaign for the Bucs to be on “Hard Knocks.”
Now, add Adam “Rudy” Humphries to the list.
The Bucs slot receiver recently appeared on the “Pat and Aaron Show” heard on WDAE-AM 620. Near the end of the interview, he said he would look forward to the Bucs hosting “Hard Knocks” and believes it would be a kick for fans as well.
Humphries was asked to share a story of some high-jinks that may go on in the Bucs locker room no one sees. He offered up a story on former Bucs receiver Russell Shepard and admitted that’s why he likes watching “Hard Knocks” — to see a personality of a team that otherwise would be shrouded in mystery.
Humphries was then asked point blank by co-host Pat Donovan, since the Bucs are one of eight eligible teams to be higlighted on “Hard Knocks” this summer, if he would be good with that.
Humphries left no doubt: Bring it on!
“Yes, that would be cool,” Humphries said. “That would be really cool. I would have to watch my language because I am sure my parents would watch.”
Yet again, Joe was asked when HBO would announce this year’s team to be featured. Joe is not privy to HBO’s schedule but the Bucs allegedly asked the NFL if it could tip off the chosen team this week.
Last year, HBO announced the Rams would be the featured team on March 23. Today is April 14.
So here is where we stand: AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and Koetter have both stated they have no issue with “Hard Knocks.” Now we have two players on the record saying they want “Hard Knocks.” So why would fans have a problem?
If you are going to use that old 1960s football nonsense of distractions, then NFL games should never be televised. A standard NFL regular season game has as many as 15 network camera crews, not including various NFL Films crews, local news channels as well as in-house camera crews from both teams.
That could easily be twice as many camera crews as there ever would be at a training camp, practice even if you factor in NFL Films.
If camera crews are going to be a distraction in practice in the middle of August, then imagine that distraction with at least double the camera crews at a game!

Last year was kind of a no brainer for who would be on it with the Rams going back to LA. I found an article from May 27th, 2014 titled: Hard Knocks announcment coming soon. So it could be worse lol.

I’m ready. Got HBO now. Lets do this.
We should be hearing soon since the Bucs are obviously the odds on favorite team to be featured and requested that it officially be announced this week.
Seems to me from what we’ve heard from coaches and players that the team has already been told it will be the Bucs and they are trying to temper their comments about it when asked to make it sound like they don’t know. But they aren’t very good at the deception which is a good thing probably. And it kind of tips us off that everyone at OBP is already expecting Hard Knocks and all that having the show in Tampa will entail.

What is anyone associated with the organization going to say? Do you really think they are going to express any concerns to the media? Come on this is so ridiculous. It’s like asking the ownership how they feel about the makeup of their football team in the offseason. What are they going to tell you, the media? The truth?
But hey, Humphries wants Hard Knocks so there ya go average Bucs fan.

Breathe Dave…..Breathe!!!
13 days…….13 days!!!!!
April 14th, 2017 at 7:19 am
Joe has anyone outer team ever wanted to be on Hard Knocks as bad as the Bucs?
April 14th, 2017 at 7:20 am
Nope! I hope it does, absolutely no reason not to, but nope. Just like everywhere else, we get ignored. But F em all!! They wont see us coming and wont be prepared!!!
As much as I want it, it wont happen. Just like draft picks I know are beasts and pan out as beasts 1-4 years later, and we didnt pick them. Players Im sure we’ll keep, but we let them go and watched them blossom with someone else….smh
Not getting my hopes up.

Got a feeling it’s going to be announced after Joe Mixon gets drafted by the Bucs, HBO won’t feature the Bucs after Mixon becomes a Buc, whatev, I’d rather have a Championship instead of Hard Knocks
April 14th, 2017 at 8:24 am
Mixon isnt even in the mix….sorry charlie

Last year the Rams’ Gurley won the NFL’s Rookie of the Year award and they received Hard Knocks as well. Both attempts were to garner much needed attention from the eyes of the people in LA. Gurley won the award over a much more deserving Jameis Winston.

I’m just saying. If they pick the boring ass bears, I’m going to HBO headquarters with a stomach full of egg salad and puking all over their cafeteria tables!!

With the Big Ten, Notre Dame analogy. This guy is as much Rudy as you are Gerorge Plimton.

Yes!

Rams front office wanted it badly last year.

Love Hard Knocks and would be cool to see inside the Bucs “family”. When is the last time a team featured on Hard Knocks had a good season? Just curious

BS

Rinse and Repeat…Man o man..
April 14th, 2017 at 10:39 am
At least I’ll be able to watch clips of the Bucs on hard knocks right here on JBF. Right Joe? Or does HBO not allow that?
April 14th, 2017 at 10:42 am
@JTHV:
That’s exactly what happened. I almost threw the remote through the TV. Gurley won because of pure BS politics. Jameis got robbed.
April 14th, 2017 at 10:42 am
Outside of a few clips (maybe), very much doubt HBO releases full episodes.
Just suck it up and buy HBO for two months. That’s what Joe will do (and record whatever movies you may like for future viewing).

Too bad we aren’t on the list of teams who have a chance. It’s down to the Browns, Bears, and the Saints
April 14th, 2017 at 1:25 pm
Not interested. As far as I’m concerned, less attention is always better than more attention. Koetter and Licht were being diplomatic, but I guarantee that, given the choice, they’d rather not do Hard Knocks. It’s no surprise that players want it. Of course they do. Athletes love attention. Doesn’t mean it’s for the best.
The worst thing for this team would be to start believing the hype around them as an “up and coming” team. They haven’t proven ANYTHING yet. I don’t want anything that could even remotely distract their focus.

On another Bucs website, not to be named here… today… addressing the issue of the Bucs being on HK…
Warren Sapp Says:
The article’s author (can’t mention here) Says:
April 14th, 2017 at 3:19 pm
And the Cubs win the world series last year. Patterns mean something at times but nothing sometimes. I think its our time…..hard knocks/playoffs/SUPERBOWL!!!
WHY NOT?

Since I’ve inadvertently run across an article on “Rudy” on JoeBucsFan.com it’s as good a time to ponder this as any. Much like Chris Berman and his shtick of coming up with a nickname for nearly every player he spoke of, Joe too likes his nicknames. Perhaps I missed out on the early indoctrination of each nickname but I am curious. Obviously we have:
– America’s Quarterback Jameis Winston; not sure what inspired this aside from irony. He’s my QB but…America’s QB?!
– AC/DC Loving GM Jason Licht; honestly this one is more tiresome than whimsical. I take it JL mentioned in an interview once that AC/DC was his favorite band. So apparently then this becomes his nickname. Glad his favorite band wasn’t Red Hot Chili Peppers because then we would have to endure ‘Red Hot Chili Pepper Loving GM Jason Licht’ every time he’s mentioned. But then we’d wonder if it were the vegetable or the band. Come to think of it, perhaps JL is just in love with alternating current! Mystery solved
– Adam “Rudy” Humphries; because apparently AH is 5’6″, had a real hard time getting in to Clemson, played DE his last game at Clemson and then never made it to the NFL?! I jest. Obviously it’s because he’s perceived as an underdog. I hope
– Winning Coach Dirk Koetter; because anything above .500 is indeed winning. Hey, it beats Losing Coach Dirk Koetter
At any rate, so far I have not had a ‘talking to’ from the interactive Joe’s so I assume I’ve done nothing too egregious in my posts to date. So I write this with…if not love than at least some curiosity. Yes, this is a blog and therefore more casual than some other sites (to be completely honest I was initially turned off by the masthead emblem of the cartoonish, drunk Bucs fan wielding the machete which screams crass more than class). But I wonder, do the nicknames stay with these guys (and the ones I missed and the ones certain to come) forever? What if JL publicly declares from now forward his ongoing love of Yanni? What if AH makes a pro bowl or clarifies his college career accomplishments? I don’t even want to ponder the obvious with Coach…

Kids just wanna be on TV
April 15th, 2017 at 8:17 am
I get to see the Bucs several times a season on TV. . The more they are on, the better it is for me. And America would fall in love with them rascally Bucs.
