“My Whole Goal Is To Become An Elite Pass Rusher”
March 6th, 2017Run-stuffing Bucs defensive end Will Gholston was talking about his brand new contract extension this afternoon with Joe and a few media brethren.
Gholston is happy for the tens of millions earmarked for him by Team Glazer and Jason Licht.
Hooray!
Joe asked Gholston, who has endured three head coaches and four defensive coordinators since getting drafted by the Bucs in 2013, whether Team Glazer locking up Mike Smith for two more years was a factor in his decision to re-sign.
While praising Smith, Gholston said his defensive coordinator wasn’t part of the decision. It was about Gholston’s family.
Gholston said his bad elbow is repaired and he’s “100 percent” healthy and cleared to play. And Gholston was clear that he has a lot of work to do — when there’s not a handoff.
“My whole goal is to become an elite pass rusher. …That’s the goal,” Gholston said, reminding media that it’s a passing league.
It’s easy to be happy for Gholston, who endured homelessness as a child and other tough times.
Damn that Mark Dominik, always screwing up in the draft!

Glad to see this Spartan doing well. He gives 110% and I am a fan. Go BUCS!
March 6th, 2017 at 5:13 pm
At least you know he never quits and has a huge heart.
March 6th, 2017 at 5:17 pm
joe you don’t do your brand a solid by praising Mark.
i know he is a really nice guy and he does have amazing vision.
He clearly has some talent at certain things.
But the guy was the worst talent evaluator that has ever lived.
March 6th, 2017 at 5:21 pm
I love this resign! He brings full effort each and every play. Having a returning coaching staff to continue with his development can only help with his growth. The fans of the bucs all look forward to watching him play! Good luck to you, Wil !
March 6th, 2017 at 5:22 pm
Of all the things I dont understand about you Joe, your admiration of Mark Dominik tops the list. The guy was the Gm for what 5 years? What did he have to show for his tenure? 5-6 guys? Mark Dominik was an abominable general manager, evidenced by the fact that the man is still out of football. He was a an absolute bum, and we’re blessed to be rid of him.
March 6th, 2017 at 5:25 pm
Great job Dominic – it only took him 5 drafts to land one decent rotational playing defensive lineman besides Gerald McCoy who was an obvious top 5 pick.
Definitely makes up for Roy Miller, Kyle Moore, Brian Price, Adrian Clayborn, Daquan Bowers, Steven Means, and letting Michael Bennet go for no reason.

So now that he’s signed you call him a good draft pick…., but for the month leading up to this he was a part time player that this team could do without. Which is it?
Dominik has what now, two of his drafted players that earned a 2nd contract on this team?
March 6th, 2017 at 5:33 pm
So HOPEFULLY, Jason Licht’s thinking now is “No Way I don’t sell out to get C Campbell in here and signed now, not only for the presence that he brings but also so he can drop some knowledge on Gholston and help him become elite.”

Also not sure if anyone saw but the UF corners aren’t testing that great.
I think VHIII is still going to be a solid corner and his numbers look better than either of the other guys coming out this year; despite them both being projected as some of the top CBs if not top CBs in a great CB group
Teez Tabor is 6’0 205 lbs; had a 4.62 40 at his fastest and had a 30″ vert.
Quincy Wilson is 6’1 214 lbs; had a 4.54 40; and 32″ vert
VHIII by comparison; is 204 lbs; 5’10”, but ran a 4.50 40 and had a 39″ vert
I kept bringing up his vert last year because people knocked his height. Who cares if he is like 2″ shorter than another CB if he can jump 5-8″ higher? There’s a guy called Brent Grimes that has made a living off of his hops and he only had a 33.5″ vert
March 6th, 2017 at 5:42 pm
Vh3 would be a late second if he came out this year
March 6th, 2017 at 5:48 pm
And that is why his contract is incentivized. Good Job Licht.
March 6th, 2017 at 5:49 pm
In fairness, Brian Price was looking like he was gonna be good before he tore the muscles off of both of his labrums in his hips.
March 6th, 2017 at 5:56 pm
You know what I’ve realized? Mark Dominik is a really good analyst on BSPN, but an extremely bad at being a GM. I suppose that’s why he’s an analyst on BSPN.

Great video Joe (‘Some Background on Will Gholston’). I truly believe that these next 4 yrs will see him blossom into a Calais Campbell type of DT/DE. Convinced that he’ll just keep getting better & better, getting his sacks up into the 6-8 per yr range while still remaining an elite run-stuffer. Awesome re-signing! Now to re-sign Jack Smith (presuming that he’s healed up of course) and add another DT/DE (Campbell, Poe or Williams would do very nicely) plus draft another DE as Ayers replacement down the line and Bucs’ DLine will be sitting pretty.

“Destinjohnny Says:
March 6th, 2017 at 5:42 pm
Vh3 would be a late second if he came out this year”
That’s why both the other UF corners are 1st round projections this year in one of the strongest CB classes despite being weaker prospects than VHIII…

Defense Rules – couldn’t have said it better myself
March 6th, 2017 at 6:22 pm
BTW – Torrey Smith just became a FA. Would take him over Jackson in a heartbeat.
March 6th, 2017 at 6:24 pm
Destinjohny – why would VH3 be a late 2nd round pick this year?
March 6th, 2017 at 6:29 pm
Funny how the knock on this guy coming out of college was he showed inconsistent effort. Now he is known as one of the hardest workers on this team. He routinely pushes himself through injuries and produces at the same time.
Great resigning, well deserved and continues to show the team that if you work hard we will pay you to stay. I’d say Dominic got great value in the 4th rnd for this guy

“Damn that Mark Dominik, always screwing up in the draft!”
Even a blind hog finds an acorn every so often.
March 6th, 2017 at 6:49 pm
Because it is the best db draft in a long long time.
Last year was a weak one.
Last year was the best d line draft in 20 years.
In a normal year Hargreaves is a 1st round pick.
We should have in my opinion went d line till the cows came home last year.
This year is dbs and tight end
If we drafted Sheldon rankins, spence and say reed out of bama…..
Then went db db then best player available this year…… It would be crush kill destroy time.
March 6th, 2017 at 7:07 pm
Dominic couldn’t draft until schiano arrived.
March 6th, 2017 at 7:07 pm
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time. Dominik was wrong more often then he was right.
March 6th, 2017 at 7:10 pm
@mark you beat me to it. Dominik was as useless as t!ts on a boat

Lol fml. Give us an edit button Joe!
March 6th, 2017 at 7:13 pm
Cue the “Torrey Smith to Tampa?” Article in 3….2….1 🙂
March 6th, 2017 at 7:33 pm
Hard no to Torrey Smith. Dude hasn’t been a productive member of an offense since 2012. If we’re not gonna go after a top Wideout in FA, at least get somebody like Robert Woods who has an actual chance of producing.
March 6th, 2017 at 7:35 pm
Re: the Dominik crack…. broken clocks.
He screwed up FAR too much to be forgiven w/ half a DE.
March 6th, 2017 at 7:41 pm
Joe is a social climber, thats why he falls in love with all these sorry GM’s
March 6th, 2017 at 7:59 pm
Joe,
You missed one. It’s getting crazy out there! lol.
Mike KlisVerified account
@MikeKlis
Broncos, Tampa Bay are teams hot on DT/DE Chris Baker, per source. Jacksonville in play for DL Calais Campbell.
March 6th, 2017 at 8:02 pm
@Defense Rules… Sweet damn I was screaming that last year. When we took VH3 instead of Rankins, I bout lost it. I like the kid. But damn last year was the time to get nasty with D line picks. I digress
I know most want Cook. I’d rather go DE…
#TRENCHWARFARE
Oh… Yea JOE when is that edit button coming 😀
March 6th, 2017 at 8:13 pm
Wait……dominick did draft the greatness of both price and been before the bust that is the gronk. Great talent evaluator the “rock star” was.
March 6th, 2017 at 8:18 pm
Hard to believe nobody has brought Dominick in for an interview with his stellar record of success…..John Lynch got an interview and a job before Dominick and he has ZERO experience in the front office….whatsoever….at any level or capacity. There was that cute little moment where Dominick tried to float his name out for consideration to work for Lynch…..that lasted about a half of day.
March 6th, 2017 at 8:22 pm
Who made some $ today from the DBs?
I’m liking Kevin King, Josh Jones and Marcus Williams. The later two being safeties.
March 6th, 2017 at 8:25 pm
Destin Jonny please explain why two lesser gator CBs have been mocked as 1st rounders THIS year; but that VHIII with better combine numbers / measurables and arguably tape/production would go late round 2 ?

Buc wire said Jackson to Vista Tampa 🏈🏈🏈
March 6th, 2017 at 9:24 pm
Reports that the Bucs are interested in Redskns DL Chris Baker(29). PFF rates him as the18th best defensive lineman (out of 127) in the league.
March 6th, 2017 at 10:57 pm
Dominick?!?! Lmao oh Joe i love it when you make such dumb comments. Which is about every other article
March 7th, 2017 at 8:29 am
Will Gholston needs to back up his words with actions. Because so far, he hasn’t been that good of a player in my book.
