Might The Bucs Trade?
March 4th, 2017Football, for whatever reason, is not hockey or baseball.
In hockey, players change teams almost as much as they change jock straps. Baseball has its share of trades too, but not as much as it once did.
Football? Trading for players, not swapping draft picks, is rare by comparison. Could that be changing? NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal seems to think it might because teams have been more aggressive keeping their own free agents.
@greggrosenthal: All this cap space with so few great free agents could inspire some fun trades. Cap space=flexibility.
And in an industry that rarely trades, guess who has shown a penchant for pulling off trades? That would be Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.
Hell, Licht may be one of the few general managers in NFL history to trade a guy twice in two seasons: Licht traded Tim Wright and squeezed two seasons out of aging Logan Mankins, and the following summer when Wright was cut by the Belicheats, Licht signed Wright and swapped him again. This time, however, the return was fruitless as Licht received directionally-challenged kicker Kyle Brindza in the second Wright deal.
If anyone is going to trade for decent players, it would be Licht.
March 4th, 2017 at 9:14 am
Use the undisputed leader and face of the losing culture cancer93 to go up and get Cook. It’s a true win-win. a career loser gone and a champion brought in to team with Jameis.
March 4th, 2017 at 9:27 am
Speaking of Wright he’s now down to 220 and says he feels like a WR. I think he’s a FA too. Maybe Licht would like to re-sign him. I always liked Wright.
March 4th, 2017 at 9:32 am
Yup send the ice cream man and move up get d cook
March 4th, 2017 at 9:36 am
@tmaxcon…
Ah yes let’s just magically trade the key piece to this team’s defense because he hasn’t won anything. This franchise hasn’t won anything either. And that’s not because of GMC it’s because of moves like drafting Freeman, signing McCown, giving huge contracts to Eric Wright, Michael Johnson, Anthony Collins. This franchise is finally on the way up and GMC is a big part of that. Oh and if you trade him then what are we doing at DT? This isn’t Madden. So you sign Campbell that’s great and all, but I’d rather have GMC and Campbell side by side, and use draft collateral to move up for Cook. But I forgot…. it’s just the easy and lazy way to jump on GMC and try and ship him out of town with some (too many) Bucs fans
March 4th, 2017 at 9:39 am
i would be checking now to se who looking to make a trade to move up at least into the top 10 maybe swap 3rd rounders
March 4th, 2017 at 9:42 am
Tmaxcon- round of applause. You’re that guy. Who in the blue hell wants to trade a proven, impact player for a undersized too slow running back with health concerns. Lmao that’s priceless. You can keep thinking that D tackles win games and live in your own reality. The rams are about to trade Donald did you hear!? They want fournette!
March 4th, 2017 at 10:00 am
Broy
Huge difference between McIceCream and Aaron Donald. Huge difference in fact. Donald gives 100% on every play. He takes over games. And if you think a DT can’t win a game singlehandedly please go back and watch the 2015 Rams game again.
Not only did he mind-fck Jameis which I’ve never seen in my life, he then clothesline -DDT’s-scoop slams Martin by the neck on fourth down to end the game. That’s after he chucks Logan Mankins out the way with one hand as if he was a plastic blocking dummy.
That’s how you’re supposed to play DT. You take over games and instill your will on your opponent. Not hand them lollipops every time they get tackled.
McIceCream the Kindergarden DT.
And why won’t he play DE? Cox, Donald hell I think I’ve even seen suh line up at end once or twice in his career. You talk about WR being Divas, GMC is the only Diva that plays DT, EVER, in the history of the game.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:03 am
@Broy34
I wouldn’t say Cook is undersized and too slow. He is similar in size to Doug Martin (just about 10-15 lbs lighter) and 4.49 is fast enough. Not blazing fast, but a solid number.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:09 am
And to entertain the thought of trading GMC. It probably wouldn’t happen until his guaranteed money is up (I could be incorrect but I think that is after the 2018 season) and they have a good replacement on the roster.
Who knows, maybe they end up liking Malik McDowell and draft him this year to be the future pass rushing 3-tech. Although if people hate GMC for being a “quitter” then there will be a lot of people that hate McDowell lol.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:10 am
Anyone who says we should trade GMC is a window licker and knows nothing about football.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:11 am
Broy34
She is no impact player. She’s been here 7 years and you can not name 5 impact or game changing plays…
Again I want to be shut up but not a single one of you gmc nut huggers can name off all these on field plays to do so… All you got is the BS pro bowls and meaningless good guy rhetoric. Gmc is the fourth or fifth best player on defense… Your perception of her is far from reality.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:12 am
Again stop with the BS rehotoric shut me up with examples of these game changing or impact plays. I’ll give the ankle grab on Ryan…
March 4th, 2017 at 10:14 am
Day of the draft someone should release a picture of someone smoking dope in a gas mask and say it is Cook, we can draft him in the second. Just kidding of course.m
March 4th, 2017 at 10:14 am
the patriots are always willing to trade. I would bet they have more trades than the other 31 teams combined over the last decade.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:20 am
Nick
Key piece of defense that’s laughable. Kwon and the midget are key pieces. mccoy is the leader of the losing culture and a locker room cancer with a smile.
She is a me first camera hound who has quit on multiple coaches.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:21 am
How can someone be so disrespectful to refer to GMC as “she”. You couldnt hold GMCs jock dude. It’s one thing to bash his play on the field, but attacking his manhood is out of line. Grow the f up
March 4th, 2017 at 10:28 am
22
He gives no doubt about his manhood when he quits on coaches and disappears when it matters most each week. No body falls in love with losers like buc fans. Gmc gets no respect from me because she has not earned it on the field
March 4th, 2017 at 10:29 am
She is a me first camera hound who has quit on multiple coaches.
———-
True story. The exact same words could be used for Revis. They all about the money, winning be damned.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:39 am
What’s funny is that Jameis would probably slap the taste outta both your mouths if either of you had the cajones to say the sh!t you 2 girls say about his teammate on a regular basis.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:44 am
Jameis was the first to call him out. We got to change the mentality on this team.
https://www.joebucsfan.com/2016/07/buccaneers-blog-gerald-mcoy-jameis/
March 4th, 2017 at 10:49 am
So tmax…… Is the midget you talk about happen to be VH?
March 4th, 2017 at 10:50 am
DB55 Jameis told him that he wanted him to be a more vocal leader, Not exactly a condemnation.
“I just talked to him after the season, just to get his insight on how I was as a leader,” Jameis said. “I believe Gerald is a great leader to this team, and he’s not the only leader that we’ve got. I just know that he has a little bit more in him.
“You should’ve seen him out here working with (defensive ends) Noah Spence and Kourtnei Brown, the things that he put into these players. Even me, when I first got here he put so much into me. I just asked him, ‘Keep doing it, bring it up a notch, step it up,’ just like I have to do, just like we all have to do.
“[GMC should] just continue to step up, continue to be who [he is]. He’s a [four]-time Pro Bowler defensive tackle, he’s a great voice and everyone will listen to him on our team.”
March 4th, 2017 at 10:52 am
Got to build your case, on a betta foundation.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQqP9hXW8k4
March 4th, 2017 at 10:54 am
I won’t discount any possibility. I personally think acquiring more picks is super important.
March 4th, 2017 at 10:58 am
There are some damn good receivers at the combine today. I’m getting amped about getting two of these guys in the draft. Kupp is such a natural receiver.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:02 am
^ Kupp is looking really nice as a slot/ possession guy. But we definitely need more juice that a 4.64 guy has to offer.
Zay Jones is looking very solid as well, his tape is just as good as Kupp’s, and he burned a 4.46.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:06 am
Chris Goodwin wr penn state
Zay Jones wr E Carolina (Jarvis Landry)
Deangelo Henderson rb Coastal Carolina (MJD)
Connor McDermmot Ot UCLA
Alvin Kumarra rb Tennessee
Just some guys I have noticed so far at the combine
The comps aren’t mine, they are the NFL Network fuys
March 4th, 2017 at 11:07 am
If we lose gmc, we will have a huge hole at dt. He is no leader, he is not the captain on the d. But he is at solid dt in the league, and that is not easy to replace. If we trade him, we then have at huge hole that will need to be filled. That was already at weak point on the team, trading him away would almost guarantee we puck dt in round 1, as it would be our #1 priority above rb, wr, de, cb, s. Rah said it best, “I will tolerate you until I can replace you.” We cannot afford to replace him this year, therfore we must tolerate him.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:07 am
Can’t wait to see JUJU later today
March 4th, 2017 at 11:08 am
*Than* a 4.64 guy has to offer.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:09 am
I can’t wait to see O.J and Njoku!
March 4th, 2017 at 11:16 am
Football speed and track speed are different animals. It’s about getting open and separation, not running untouched down the sideline.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:19 am
Blake
Of course that’s only what is said publicly so you need to read between the lines. Needless to say I don’t think Jameis would slap anyone talking bad about GMC.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:20 am
Forrest Lamp said his favorite Olinemen is Ali Marpet. If we move marpet to C and draft lamp I wouldn’t complain. I like Chris Goodwin he’s fast 4.42 he’s got hands and he’s smooth as he11
March 4th, 2017 at 11:21 am
Ok, so if the only argument you haters can rely on is, Oh yeah thats only what he said to the public, that’s not what he really feels, then why bother trying to post proof of your beliefs?
Just continue living in your fantasy land and say whatever you want without backing it up, no matter how wrong it is.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:21 am
Also big on godwin and zay. Hope juju runs well, I guess he is impressing a lot of teams in interviews.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:22 am
Speedy Noil just jumped out the gym 43.5!!!!!
March 4th, 2017 at 11:25 am
@Name Requred That’s the thing tho, Zay Jones looked like the clear cut best receiver at the senior bowl too. And his game tape shows a whole lot of crisp route’s and great hands.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:26 am
And he backed up that tape further by showing he has some legit speed.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:26 am
It’s not the only, it’s one of many.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:34 am
I’m out and cant watch the combine now but I checked out the rbs yesterday and boy Mccaffrey looked like a real receiver out there. If the 2nd tier receivers aren’t looking impressive I’d give him a go. We’ll have a white Percy Harvin to pair with Evans and our new WR2.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:38 am
HEY JBF, any chance we could get a COMBINE THREAD GOIN?
THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 4th, 2017 at 11:38 am
Im a little behind the live airing of the Combine and I’m watching the Gauntlet right now. Chris Godwin is killing it so far. Super impressed with him
March 4th, 2017 at 11:40 am
And Steve Smith might be my new favorite analyst lol
March 4th, 2017 at 11:41 am
@ Teddy, Agree with you 100 percent. I think McCaffrey has the skill set to become a great receiver. Not quite the same type of Receiver as his 6’5 dad, but I don’t think it’s crazy to think Christian could be a Julian Edelman type of guy.
In Fact, McCaffrey and Edelman have extremely simlar build. With McCaffrey being a slightly better athlete, in addition to being a very good running back to boot.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:42 am
@joey
Yeah, he is quickly becoming my favorite 2nd tier guy in this draft. I also like JuJu but I haven’t seen him work out yet.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:43 am
@JoeyPoppems Lol I am loving Steve Smiths commentary. Dude is a nut XD in a good way tho. Also very insightful.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:45 am
Trading back up for rb Mccaffrey, Kamara or even Perine later on….yep, all about that. If we do go after Cook if he drops past the 12th, thats cool too. But Id rather hit pass rush or WR with that 1st.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:53 am
Man Zay Jones put on a show today, Color me impressed.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:53 am
I’m not too high on Juju so maybe he will ball out today
March 4th, 2017 at 11:56 am
Yeah, I knew Zay Jones was gonna be shining.
March 4th, 2017 at 11:59 am
@Mad Max I liked what he did at the senior bowl, and he had some good film. But I was expecting 4.5+ from him. That 40 did a lot for me. Because it’s a good indication he’ll be able to get behind NFL secondaries the same way he did in college.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:06 pm
Walter football has an interesting rumor mill article about the Bucs interested in offense early and names specific players that could be targets at #19 including some obvious names and some names discussed quite a bit on this site. Also an interesting opinion from a “Team Source” on the idea of landing Dalvin Cook. It is an interesting read
https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftrumormill
March 4th, 2017 at 12:09 pm
“There is a group of first-round offensive weapons who are in play for Tampa Bay. Sources say that Alabama tight end O.J. Howard, Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey, Washington wide receiver John Ross, and Western Michigan wide receiver Corey Davis are all possibilities. Sources say that Miami tight end David Njoku could also creep into that conversation as his workouts are expected to be tremendous.”
LORD BE PRAISED! Other than John Ross that is basically my list. Joey thank you for that link.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:10 pm
“Many Buccaneer fans would love the team to land Florida State star running back Dalvin Cook, but the Buccaneers don’t see Cook sliding to them. One team source said that is “wishful thinking.” Even if the Buccaneers pass on McCaffrey, they see other running backs they could land on Day 2 as having quick starting potential.”
Don’t cry Nosbos.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:14 pm
I’m gonna have to go back and watch Chris Godwin again. I am really impressed with him after these workouts
March 4th, 2017 at 12:19 pm
Mike Williams ,Corey Davis, Fournette and Cook should all be off the board when we pick. I think we will end up with McCaffery, I think the drop off at Rb after that is more significant than at Wr and will be able to get a comparable we in the second compared to what will be on the board at 19. In addition to there being better FA available at WR leading up to the draft. Sign one of the top 5 WRs in FA. Take McCaffery and ad a Wr in the second and Winston has a ton of weapons. If we sign a top WR though I wouldn’t be mad if we moved back into the first with our second pick into the end of the 1st and took Jabrill Peppers and can still add a rookie Wr in the 3rd it’s a great draft class for our teams needs
March 4th, 2017 at 12:23 pm
Koetter said this is the deepest RB draft he has ever seen.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:28 pm
@Joe What are your thoughts of McCaffrey’s performance at the Combine yesterday?
Mayock said something earlier that really struck a cord with me. He commented that Offensive football in the NFL is becoming more and more about creating mismatches.
I’d Say McCaffrey, Howard, and Njoku all fit that bill.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:30 pm
Joe puts zero stock in what guys do in the NFL Network reality TV show known as the glorified indoor track meet. It is not football; it’s not remotely football. When in doubt, go back to the film… of games.
Don’t know what McCaffrey did — or any other player — and don’t care.
Joe thinks more of the PFF tribe than the glorified indoor track meet.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:31 pm
No to peppers. He is a lber and we are set at MLB and rolb. Lolb is a deminished role in the NFL today. He is not a safety, hence why he is working out as a lber
March 4th, 2017 at 12:32 pm
When is Christopher Carson kid is leading the running backs in every category
March 4th, 2017 at 12:33 pm
And how much film do u watch joe?
March 4th, 2017 at 12:34 pm
Ross at 4.22!!!!!!!
March 4th, 2017 at 12:34 pm
Joe leaves that to the NFL suits he speaks with who are pros at that. Joe doesn’t pretend to know the intricacies of what football folks are looking for. That’s why he goes to the combine to talk to those in the know.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:34 pm
Okey dokey then. Idk though, I’ve noticed a few guys flash at the combine in recent years, and that success translated into their pro games. Ali Marpet, Jarvis Landry, Jameis Winston, and Mike Evans to name a few.
But to each their own my friend.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:34 pm
Holy $hit
March 4th, 2017 at 12:35 pm
Ross 4.22 oh boy!
March 4th, 2017 at 12:35 pm
Yeah that was incredible.
Still don’t trust them knees.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:36 pm
@SB
Carson isn’t leading, its alphabetical order lol
March 4th, 2017 at 12:36 pm
DRAFT JOHN ROSS NOW. JUST BROKE THE COMBINE RECORD
March 4th, 2017 at 12:36 pm
4.22 then he limped. Showed in 4.22 seconds the good and bad lol
March 4th, 2017 at 12:37 pm
Yeah, im not looking to draft him high, but man thats crazy fast. Speed isnt everything though.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:37 pm
Yeah i don’t care how fast he is if he can’t get on the field
March 4th, 2017 at 12:38 pm
That was supposed to be”man”that kid
March 4th, 2017 at 12:40 pm
Curtis Samuel 4.31
March 4th, 2017 at 12:40 pm
Wow and he’s not wearing the addidas shoes to get the island. What an idiot
March 4th, 2017 at 12:40 pm
Blake:
Fans put WAY more stock into the underwear Olympics than NFL suits do, trust Joe on this. Marpet didn’t do a damn thing at the combine to impress Licht. What Marpet did at the Senior Bowl very much impressed Licht.
Jameis??? People raked him over the coals for being slow (he had same time as Josh Freeman who people said was fast).
The underwear Olympics isn’t even remotely football. Any NFL employee will tell you this.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:41 pm
DAMN CURTIS SAMUEL WITH THE 4.31!!!!!!! That’s Tyrek Hill/ Desean Jackson speed son! And he doesn’t have glass bones.
Draft this man.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:41 pm
“Your best ability is your availability.”
— Bill Parcells.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:46 pm
@ Blake
I like Curtis too. Another matchup nightmare. Imagine him in the backfield or slot with a lber trying to cover him. Lol
March 4th, 2017 at 12:48 pm
@Joe
I forgot what it was called by Mayock after Marpet did his combine but he was one of the rare participants to hit the “3’s” or the “4’s”….something with drills, speed and power. That caught my eye too and got me on board.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:49 pm
@Joe Marpet ran 4.98 40 and showed off great movement and athleticism in every drill. So yes he did do a damned thing at the combine. Not saying its more important than what he showed in 1 on 1’s at the Reesus bowl.
But do you really think Licht would have traded back into the second round for a guy that wasn’t a great athlete?
And while Jameis didn’t run a good forty at combine, he was aces in every passing drills. First FSU game against Pitt type of accuracy on display on every throw. And showed off a confidence, a poise, a swagger that separated him from every other guy in the group.
While I agree that the Combine is not even remotely a 1 to 1 portrayal of a players ability, If A guy has good tape, and he backs it up with a strong, athletic showing at the underwear olympics, you better believe it effects a players draft stock.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:54 pm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PM0_OZQqiCw
March 4th, 2017 at 12:57 pm
Yes. He wasn’t looking for an athlete. He was looking for an offensive guard who could also play center.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:58 pm
Joeypoppems,
Players interviewed at the Combine so far per WalterFootball.com
Michael Roberts, TE, Toledo (COM)
Evan Engram, TE, Ole Miss (COM)
David Njoku, TE, Miami (COM)
Curtis Samuel, RB/WR, Ohio State (COM)
JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC (COM)
Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE/3-4DE, Villanova (COM)
Looks like we may be in the WR/TE market. Still too early to tell! Will update again at the end of the day.
March 4th, 2017 at 12:59 pm
So maybe Samuel will still be there in the 4th or 5th and we’ll see what that speed can translate into. He’s not slated to be a high pick though.
March 4th, 2017 at 1:01 pm
Yea I looked at that list yesterday and was kind of surprised at how many TEs were on it.
March 4th, 2017 at 1:02 pm
Every mock draft I’ve seen has Samuel going high in the 2nd round
March 4th, 2017 at 1:06 pm
And not just TEs but highly graded TEs. Njoku has 1st round potential and Engram could go round 2
March 4th, 2017 at 1:08 pm
^Same Dude, And that 4.31 could even push him into the second round.
And Joe, agree to disagree, but I firmly believe it goes with out saying that athletic guys are better than their un-athletic counter parts.
Unless you’re talking about Quarterbacks or Specialist. Because those positions are more reliant on skill than athleticism.
March 4th, 2017 at 1:13 pm
I might just be on this Chris Goodwin train now. Ran a 4.42 and caught everything. Plus it looks like he has good size
March 4th, 2017 at 1:15 pm
@Blake_bucsfan some kind of combintation of Mccaffrey and OJ Howard would be a great consolation prize for missing out on Corey Davis. Maybe still grab one of the Oklahoma thugs in the later rounds. Gotta get a safety somewhere in there too.
March 4th, 2017 at 1:17 pm
Yeah Goodwin is nice!
Thanks Joey, I didnt check the mocks yet, just read a few articles on him.
March 4th, 2017 at 1:19 pm
Excuse me… Curtis Samuels 4.31 40 could push him into the *1st* round. Just wanted to clarify that lol.
@Joe Hey man whats the Eta on that there edit button? 🙂
March 4th, 2017 at 1:20 pm
When are the TEs running the 40? I’m really interested in seeing what OJ and the kid from Miami did. I wanna see speed and yac all over the feild next year.
March 4th, 2017 at 1:22 pm
@ Blake, he was compared to Josh Huff….but you never know. I havent done a lot of research on him, too busy lately.
March 4th, 2017 at 1:22 pm
http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/curtis-samuel?id=2558066
March 4th, 2017 at 1:29 pm
@Mike Evans GOAT
Yea I am gonna be joining you on that train. 6-1 209 lbs and 4.42 speed, yes please!
March 4th, 2017 at 1:36 pm
Yeah I like this Ryan Switzer kid….3rd-4th round maybe if we havent addressed WR yet…of course we already have Hump, but look what those Patriots did with two small receivers.
http://nflmocks.com/2016/11/11/ryan-switzer-nfl-draft-scouting-report/
March 4th, 2017 at 2:29 pm
“JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC (COM)”
My boyeeee in the 2nd.
March 4th, 2017 at 3:31 pm
Again just for an out of town viewpoint. My son lives in Columbus…a Browns Buckeyes fan.
He stated flat out regardless of what Samuel does at the combine he was the BEST player on OSU’s team last year…he’s a FOOTBALL player with amazing speed…NOT an amazing fast guy who happens to play football.
I was hoping for a way to get Dalvin AND Samuel…that’s obviously a pipe dream…not sure we’ll get either of them at this point.
Samuel would be awesome because of all the RB he played as well as WR…..he could line up anywhere on the field and be a threat to take it to the house.
March 4th, 2017 at 7:54 pm
McCoy has been here seven years ….with absolutely no one to help him in the trenches and that is not Fake News! But we should continue to build the wall…but not in Mexico dumb a$$!
March 4th, 2017 at 11:10 pm
TMAXCON:
you have no clue building your team on Madden Playstation doesnt mean you know football.
Please explain why players and coaches who actually play the game have McCoy in top 5 DT in league every year. Compare his stats of those other ACTIVE DT and not DE if you know the game you will know there is difference in the 2 positions (DT & DE)!!
March 5th, 2017 at 1:28 am
Someone please take Tmaxipad I mean T maxicon’s keyboard away!! He has gone FULL RETARD!!
