How Fast Is DJax?
March 11th, 2017NFL.com has a thing called Next Gen Stats, gobbledygook from tracking players with computer chips.
Some of it is interesting. Some is hocus pocus. But Joe gives those folks an “A” for effort.
Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter again bemoaned the lack of explosive plays from his offense two weeks ago at the combine in Indianapolis. He indirectly attributed it to the Bucs not making the playoffs.
That element may be corrected now that the Bucs have one of the NFL’s fastest players. But how fast? NFL.com broke it down.
Next Gen Stats has only Chiefs rookie star Tyreek Hill as a faster player than DeSean Jackson.
How do they determine fastest man? It’s maximum speed, measured in Miles Per Hour (MPH). On a 59-yard pass from Kirk Cousins, NFL.com measured Jackson to be running at 22.60 MPH.
So Koetter wants explosive plays? Then getting the most explosive wide receiver in the NFL is one way to cure that.

I’m a total geek, so thank you for the Flash pick 🙂

I’m excited about what DJax can do without the ball….and with the ball with YAC…..our problem was that many of our passes were down and outs…..and if you go out of bounds the yardage ends.
I suspect we will have many plays with Djax that aren’t simply deep passes but short passes that will produce long yardage.
Djax isn’t only fast….he’s quick.
March 11th, 2017 at 9:37 am
DJax only showed up once on that list. Hill showed up over and over again. I’d like to see a season average stat, not just single plays.

The bucs have been horrible at YAC over the last few years. It would be awesome to finally see a buccaneer take a slant route to the house!
March 11th, 2017 at 9:51 am
Hill showed up 3 times. Twice were returns. Djax had the fastest offensive play.
March 11th, 2017 at 9:53 am
The stats on time to throw for Jameis is worrisome. He ranks towards the bottom most weeks. Hope that’s a reflection of the receiving core and not decision making time.
March 11th, 2017 at 9:53 am
YAC isn’t all on the receivers. We can get more YAC just by Winston improving his ball placement and route timing. I love Jameis, but the one thing he can improve upon is leading his receivers better, and I think he will. He has the weapons to exploit, as long as he is on time with his throws, this offense can be explosive. Evans and DJax can adjust to balls not perfectly thrown, so I don’t think Winston has to be perfect, just more consistent with his accuracy. Gonna be fun!

Tru, I’m worried about all of the other plays. That’s why I’d like to see a season average list. I’m not saying he’s not fast, I just want the complete picture.
March 11th, 2017 at 9:55 am
Connor Orr tweeted out a while ago that per next gen stats D-Jax was fast in 2016 than in 2015. This is probably what he was referring to
March 11th, 2017 at 9:56 am
*Faster in 2016
March 11th, 2017 at 9:57 am
When your wrs are all slow and can get chased down easily, it effect their yac. ME is an explosive WR, but his quickness and short burst is not what makes him great. I dont recall ME ever eluding a defender out outrunning one. Just sayin
March 11th, 2017 at 9:57 am
It’s really cool to have all that speed and I think I am happy to have him. I’ll wait to see what he brings before rushing out to buy a jersey. I have to admit his highlight reel gave me a bit of a pause. Great speed and a number of great catches, diminished by self promoting celebrations 10 yards out of the end zone almost every time he can. It has burned him twice with completely avoidable turnovers on the way into the end zone. Now two times out of all those TDs is not too bad but it is just annoying and selfish. Hopefully someone on the Bucs coaching staff or maybe Jameis can get him to act like he’s been there before and put the team before himself and not take the unnessary risk to be a clown before you cross the goal line. Did I mention, I am still happy to have him. Lol!
March 11th, 2017 at 9:59 am
Tru, that’s why I said YAC isn’t all about the WR. It IS a big part, but not the whole story.
March 11th, 2017 at 10:00 am
That would be cool, but it is pretty obvious d jax is fast. Wrs dont run full speed every play. They have to reserve their energy for the right moments. Like a cheetah who can run faster than living animal in the world, but not for very long, and need a lot of time to regain their energy. Before doing it again.
March 11th, 2017 at 10:12 am
DJax will track down all those deep balls that used to be overthrows.
I’m loving this signing more and more.
Watch the E:60 Desean Jackson.
He’s a pro’s pro.
March 11th, 2017 at 10:15 am
We have one fast player and our “Team Speed” issues are gone? Doubtful
March 11th, 2017 at 10:50 am
Tru, I agree. I just hope Licht doesn’t think this fixes our speed issues. We still need another WR and RB in the draft.
March 11th, 2017 at 11:02 am
How fast is Djax?? He is almost as fast as a NFL Organization telling mark dominik that they are currently not looking to hire anyone at this time!!!!! Now that is fast!!!!!!!!
March 11th, 2017 at 11:19 am
Just having DJAX line up opposite him is going to be great for ME13.
ME13 might be producing more YAC himself this year now that he has some plays where he only needs to beat one guy and not two. When you only have one legitimate WR it really does hamper the guy who is that WR..it hampers Koetter’s playcalling…and it creates too many situations where #3 is facing forcing the ball to ME13. #3 should get some better looks in 2017.
March 11th, 2017 at 11:43 am
@StPeteBucsfan
Then when you throw in just a threat of an average run game, then the middle will open up, and those 3-4 yard passes to CB84 abd AH11 will turn into easy 8 yard gains!!!! How open will the middle become??? almost as open as mark dominik’s itinerary for interviews with front office jobs!!!!!!!!!!
Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!
March 11th, 2017 at 11:44 am
Science hurts Joe’s brain…. lol.
March 11th, 2017 at 12:07 pm
The Flash, Flash Jackson. Our Flash Jackson! Hoping for some electric plays this season.
March 11th, 2017 at 12:10 pm
Agree Realist! Again I have high hopes for Brate this year. I hope to see him come back 15lbs heavier…rocked up…and having spent a significant portion of the off season working with some blocking guru’s. I think he’s already figured out how to get open and he obviously can catch the ball. With both ME13 and DJAX
that has to create some space in the middle as you point out.
March 11th, 2017 at 12:17 pm
So, I wonder if Adam Humphries is going to give up his number 11 jersey to the Flash.
March 11th, 2017 at 2:22 pm
The Speed Factor
Watch how much wash is going to miss DJAX. Gruden had DJAX run deep and pull the safety away from the designed play.
Crowder and jordan reed was wide open underneath and need to beat their man around the corner to get 20 yard chunks because the safety was deep playing center field to contain DJAX deep…Sims can get 1000 yards recieving on screens and slants
March 11th, 2017 at 2:34 pm
Djax is fast as hell. Anyone who’s ever seen him play knows that. Gonna be fun to watch this year boys!
March 11th, 2017 at 3:35 pm
LOL, he is faster then Vincent Jackson, that’s for sure
March 11th, 2017 at 4:18 pm
Let’s hit this draft hard and finish off the offense. If the D can start from where they finished, we can make the playoffs! I’m ready to go on a 15 year ride…who’s driving?…Jaboo, that’s who!
March 13th, 2017 at 3:22 am
I remember a few years back when Jackson was torching my Bucs when he played for the Eagles. I’m VERY happy with this signing, I called for speed in draft or FA and my prayers have Ben answered.
