Green Light For Sweezy (For Now)

March 1st, 2017

Jason, I buy my rigs right off the rack. Why is this guy trying to sell me a late-model Camry?

The mystery of J.R. Sweezy may be coming to an end.

The high-priced free agent pick up last year has yet to wear a helmet for the Bucs. Not in a game; not in a practice. Sweezy has never stepped onto a Bucs practice field.

He is the sergeant of the Bucs floppy hat patrol.

Today, in his press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine held at the Indiana Convention Center in unseasonably warm downtown Indianapolis, Koetter said Sweezy has been cleared to resume practicing when players return to One Buc Palace in April, and Sweezy is a green light for OTAs.

Of course, that is, if he stays healthy.

Sweezy, Koetter explained, needed back surgery after he signed with the Bucs. His body never fully recovered. Koetter said that by the time the season came to a close, Sweezy was just getting healthy enough to be cleared for workouts.

As to where he would play if he plays, Koetter suggested left guard but was clear to point out that is not set in stone. Koetter noted Kevin Pamphile could play center and also suggested Ali Marpet is a candidate to play center.

“We will get the best five guys out there,” Koetter said. “First, we have to find out who is healthy.”

I’ve said it before I’ll say it again I’m a theorist. I don’t believe everything the tube says is factual. I believe some of these so called injuries are phony. My senses are on high when it comes to Sweezy. Coming off an alleged back surgery the minute I see him pile drive someone ima be like”just like I figured”.

  2. Eric Says:

If Sweezy is back to full health, in which I anticipate, the entire offense is boosted.

He is a mauler in the run game=better run game=more play action (jameis’s bread and butter)=deadlier offense=better team=playoffs=superbowl=Lombardi.

  3. SB Says:

I like your linear equation Eric.

As long as they do indeed get the best 5 guys out there, that’s almost all that matters. If Hawley isn’t retained that’s valuable quality depth gone and while Sweezy might be healthly finally, I wouldn’t go all in on a guy who had a bum back that kept him sidelined for an entire year. Whose to say a disc can’t slip in or even b4 training camp and then they’re right back to square one potentially. No way I’d pass on a proven commodity like Mangold, and I dam sure wouldn’t want to start the season with Pamphile or Marpet playing a position they have NEVER played before in live fire games regardless of how much practice time they might have had prior at the position. And I’d still rather have Wiz over Mangold. Both proven commodities, but one is now in his prime as opposed to one being past it, even if ever so slightly.

cleared for spring underwear practice, where teams get docked practice days if guys bump into each other. it’s a start i guess, but i’ll check back in august

What I found peculier was them announcing him cleared for activities basically minutes after the season was over. Hmmm.

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

My man..Easy (Money) Sweezy will practice well without pads. Then go back to rehab during training camp. Only to..do his usual..Go on injured reserved while getting his money for nothin, chicks for free, plus a few bowls of brocholli..for pain of course. I luv this guy. Easy Sweezy is the name!

Benenoch is the other Buc whose health has been in question. I have a feeling if he comes to camp truly healthy he might turn some heads.

He was a stud at UCLA and he’s only playing American football for about a half dozen years..he’s 6-5 300+ and he was a soccer player!!!

His final year as a Bruin they surrendered just 14 sacks the second lowest in school history. Weapons for Jameis…critical…protection for Jameis just as critical. I think Benenoch might be this year’s breakout player in camp.

His injuries last year were not typical…he had a whopping 35 consecutive starts at UCLA!

Maybe this is how he hurt his back.

Sweezy’s availability at 100% this year would be a boost to the Oline for sure. We’ll see how it works out.

I like our young depth and all the options we have with Pamphile, Benenoch, Wester and Ben Gottschalk. If a couple of these guys beyond Pamphile can step up and make good developmental progress – then its not hard to see both Hawley and Evan Smith be let go.

  11. Lord Cornelius Says:

I find it hilarious that anyone suggests they know wtf is going on with Sweezy and what will happen going forward.

Mark me down for “?” when it comes to him and that’s it. Will not speculate tilL I hear what he’s doing in actual team activities

  12. Doctor Stroud Says:

We know more about the Roswell aliens, the Skunk Ape, the Nazca lines, Jack the Ripper’s true identity, and the Bermuda Triangle more than we know about this guy. His old team, Seattle, would probably trade for him considering their o-line woes last year, and if they make the call, the Bucs should listen.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If J.R. Sweezy is healthy, I want to see him take the field. We were sold a bill of goods on the guy. I want to see him play for us.

Of course, Licht COULD be talking him up for a draft day trade too.

BUT…if J.R. Sweezy works out, man…we fix RT and that oline is set!

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Doctor Stroud Says
    “the Skunk Ape”

He was actually seen a few miles from where I am. East of me. Years ago. Probably a hoax, but hey, we got the ugly, stinky step-brother to big foot!

  15. Brian Says:

You werent sold a bill of goods. The guy got hurt weight traning after being signed.. Wtf is wrong with all you conspiracy theorists? Jesus H.

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Brian…the bill of goods was on how good an addition he would be to the team. What I said is that I want to see if that’s true.

    Get it?

  17. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I imagine we’ll find out over the next week as to whether Joe Hawley is fully healthy. If he is, his play would be much better and no one would have to move to center if we resign him.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

btw, Brian…what does the ‘H’ stand for?

  19. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

    Bonzai……..you mean Trump???? 😂😂😂😂

  20. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Buc4Lyfe I don’t see how you can call Hawley quality back up because the line was eviscerated whenever he played. Him EDS and Datsun playing together = Fameis running for his life!

  21. Pete Mitchell Says:

Hearing Chris Landry talk about Mangold today kind of got me fired up! That would be a heck of a line, D Smith-Sweezy-Mangold-Marpet-Dotson.
