DeSean Jackson Scouting Report On Brent Grimes
March 12th, 2017New Bucs explosive receiver DeSean Jackson has faced the Buccaneers’ No. 1 cornerback, and Joe asked Jackson about it yesterday.
“I faced him when he was in Miami,” Jackson said of Grimes. “He’s an interesting corner, a smaller guy but he’s like one of those guys that just sits in your hip, and he has a large vertical. He jumps up and grabs some balls. So it’s good. I think the competitive nature for us and receivers and them as DBs on this team, I think the competitive nature is going to be crazy, man.
“I know you see [new Bucs safety J.J.] Wilcox here, I’ve been playing versus him. I hated him the past couple of years.”
Jackson added that Wilcox is a tough dude, a hitter in the running game, in addition to letting receivers feels his presence.
The Grimes-Jackson matchup in training camp will be fun. Joe doesn’t expect either veteran to go 100 percent consistently in the summer, but there’s a lot of pride and competitive spirit in between them. It’ll at least be worth the price (free) of your training camp admission.
Of course, 21-year-old cornerback Vernon Hargreaves is a hell of an athlete who will be able to learn plenty from Jackson, assuming he’s willing to share.
Man, Joe wishes summer was here. The expectations surrounding the Bucs, Joe suspects, it will eclipse what it was in 2008, when the team was coming off a division title and the near-miss of signing Brett Favre.

I can see us going CB early in the draft if a guy they like is there. Grimes can groom his second guy in two years.
March 12th, 2017 at 10:15 am
Still need to resolve the situation at center.
March 12th, 2017 at 10:17 am
I feel like we wouldn’t draft a CB with the draft being so deep in CBs, if anything i would hope we go DE or RB Honestly I think Budda Baker will still be available for us Rd 3 and he’s got high ceilings.

Job well done with BOTH signings Mr. Licht!!

I was hoping Jackson would tell us what he thinks of Miko, lol.
Our new safety is one tough dude for sure.

Want a late pick CB?……Damontae Kazee!
March 12th, 2017 at 10:25 am
Budda Baker has tested really well
If we want him we better grab him in the 2nd round
March 12th, 2017 at 10:36 am
Now if that wasn’t a huge compliment coming from a guy has been a star in this league for a long time. “I hated playing against him” tells me all I need to know about Mr. Wolcox.

As I see it, the biggest positions of need right now is CB, with really on VHIII and Grimes. Need one more quality starting-caliber, another reliable backup. At TE Brate and Stocker aren’t enough. Will we get Myers back? Is he enough? I don’t see much with Westbrook and Cross other than special teams and depth. I’d like to see us still get what we thought we’d have in ASJ (but never got). Looks like Kelce won’t pan out at C, so I think we need OL help. Can they at least get Hawley back as depth? So probably need someone who can do G/C. There is still some needs at back WR. We have Dye, Reedy, Huff, Walker. Anyone happpy with that? So…development at WR would be helpful. That’s four I see at least we need still. Not thrilled with RB with perrenial non-performer Sims, unproven Barber, and the unknown Martin with (durable?) Rodgers. And then there is Foles. Boy, we need a backup like him. Still lots of work to do, but good so far.

B Baker along with Obi will be lucky to make it out of the first round. There may very well be 4 safeties off the board in the 1st round.

Maybe some of that competitive drive from Jackson and Grimes will rub off on the Pathetic disappearing ice cream man. Doubtful it’s been 7 years and he still prefers to disappear when it matters most than make a play.

I remember seeing all of the videos of DJ11 burning Norman during training camp last year. Im sure Grimes will get his fair share of toast too, but im not at all worried about that. Unless you give him a large cushion, you wont be able to run even with DJ11
March 12th, 2017 at 11:10 am
I don’t know if it’s been discussed yet or not but Deshawn and Humphries came to terms on the Jersey. DeShawn will be wearing 11 next year and Humphries will be wearing 10
March 12th, 2017 at 11:14 am
Yeah, Humps a team player all the way….very graceful. Im sure he’s glad to have DJax too.

Alan Cross could be a sleeper, he did really well last year as an H Back and sometimes TE, the coaches really seem to like him. Still need the athletic TE that can stretch the middle of the field for the underneath routes. This is one of the deepest TE drafts I can remember. I would love to draft Freddie Stevenson in the 6th or 7th. That dude is unselfish and can do it all, good blocker, good short yardage runner and can catch. I get a Chubby thinking of Jameis with Cook and Stevenson (okay so my glasses are a little garnet and gold colored, but FSU guys seem make great Pros). I still don’t think Cook will fall to us. BTW I am fine keeping Martin (at a discount). It cracks me up that these fans forget that Kwon did the same thing. When he got popped we were 6-6, we had won 3 out of 4 and we were making a push for the playoffs. We lost our last 4 when he was suspended but no one wanted to send him packing. D Martin has something to prove, keep him as insurance (again at a discount) and send Sims packing. He is the guy in the backfield that SUCKS. The book is out on Barber and he could be a good ST player as well. JMO

WOW this jacka$$ is really a disturbed individual

I forgot to mention I would like Engram or Leggett at TE, Howard had too good of a pro day and will be way gone by the time we pick, unless he Tunsils!!
Stevenson would be a great FB, I would have loved Dimarco, another swiss army guy as they say.
March 12th, 2017 at 11:42 am
@ Billy Buc
could end up with 5 safeties drafted in the 1st, don’t forget about Jabrill Peppers. especially since Jamal Adams and Malik Hooker are widely regarded as top 10 picks, it might force other teams to be aggressive and get their guy.
there are a lot of interesting safeties this year though. seems a lot deeper than most other years.
Baker is the guy i’m pretty much sold on though. i think if he was 6 feet tall instead of 5’10”, he would be a guaranteed top 15 pick.
March 12th, 2017 at 11:49 am
Oh look tmax is complaining again. So here’s 5 plays from McCoy just from the last seasons I can remember off the top of my head:
2016 – SEA – 4th quarter solo sack as Seattle was driving into our zone, only down by 9 points.
2016 – KC – Tipped pass on Conte interception to seal win
2016 – ATL Game 2 – strip sack, recovered by D. Smith.
2016 – ATL Game 1 – Tipped pass on final play of game to seal win. Tipped pass and sack earlier in the game, and TFL.
2015 – ATL – Ankle grab of Ryan to stop him from completing pass and sealed game win.
And I’m pretty sure he had 5 – 6 solo tackles in week 17 vs Carolina last year.
Now go and tell me how these don’t count and weren’t meaningful in your sad, warped little mind.
Go ahead, we’re all waiting, holding our breath.

Excited for what this team has to offer us Bucs fans this upcoming season!
March 12th, 2017 at 12:19 pm
Budda might be our 1st round pick. He’s a centerfielder who is an EXCELLENT tackler, and has a nose for the ball. I think he is Earl Thomas esq. also a safety named Marcus Williams is a 2nd or 3rd round guy, and he tested out great. Plus his tape looks good. (Obi’s tape is GARBAGE)
March 12th, 2017 at 12:58 pm
I would line hargraeves against djax and grimes against evans all year. Push our young guys and challenge them no reason to have a couole plus thirty guys polishing each other.
March 12th, 2017 at 1:13 pm
Kevin, 30 year old guys polishing each other? lol! I guess I’m not taking it the way you meant it! Lol!😂

You know whats really funny… WHO DOESN’T LIKE ICE CREAM DURING THE SUMMER???
Trolls head will now explode in…. 5…4…3…2… Eveyone get down!!!!
No more feeding them… Cause you cant have your pudding if you dont eat your meat…. How can you have any pudding IF YOU DONT EAT YOUR MEAT!!!
In this case you will need some education to understand. NOTE THIS POST GOING FORWARD TROLLS/FANS OF DEPRESSION!!!
March 12th, 2017 at 1:20 pm
@ Big Marlon Yep I stand corrected could be 5 safeties first round. I’ll bet that has never happened before.
March 12th, 2017 at 2:31 pm
@Mike evans Goat.
I agree with your assessment of Baker, I also comoare him to a Earl Thomas. I also compare Obi to Taylor Mays, great measurables, but little production.
I knowche will be overdrafted, hopefully by someone else
March 12th, 2017 at 3:09 pm
@jj, I’m with you about Sims
March 12th, 2017 at 5:19 pm
Patrick, Right? I don’t see why that guy is hanging on? I’m not hatin’ (or trying not to) but I just don’t think he is any good. Reminds me of “Twinkle Toes Flintstone” from back in cartoon days. I just watched the play against the Rams that really lost the game for us, ball was right in his darn hands, he flipped it up and allowed a week of Jameis haters to do their thing. He doesn’t play ST, get rid of him already!! I would take Rex “freaking” Bulkhead over him any day of the week, that guy is cheap and very underrated.
