Jameis And The Canes
February 22nd, 2017Yes, believe it or not, when America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler James Winston, was asked by America’s winningest sports franchise, the New York Yankees, to speak to their minor leaguers recently, some locals grumbled.
“Why didn’t he speak to the Rays,” these folks muttered.
Joe’s response? “Why didn’t the Rays invite him?”
(No, Joe is not a Yankees fan.)
Now, Joe fears Jameis risks angering the very fans that stood behind him fully during stormy times at Florida State. Jameis is now a personal quarterback coach of sorts for a Miami recruit.
Yes, a Cane!
Matt Porter of the Palm Beach Post brings word that Jameis works out regularly in Tampa with Miami quarterback recruit N’Kosi Perry. In the link, there is video of Jameis working with Perry as the Ocala native wings passes to receivers.
Advice from the former national champion, Heisman winner, No. 1 overall draft pick and Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ starting QB can only help Perry as he tries to win the Miami starting job, which was vacated by NFL-bound Brad Kaaya.
“I learned a lot of the smaller things. Quarterback stuff,” Perry said, adding that Winston told him to “always be a leader, process information, and focus on the smaller things.”
It seems Perry and Jameis met through mutual friend P.J. Williams, a former Florida State teammate of Jameis who went to the same high school as Perry.
This is nothing negative at all. In fact, it’s a positive for Jameis. It’s clear Jameis is all about helping others and if he can help a young guy playing the same position somehow reach his dream, or at least get a college degree out of playing good football, all the better.
But Joe can just hear Seminoles fans moaning now if Perry ever does beat Florida State.

You gotta love the ” #3 “

If FSU fans are smart they will shut up and continue to thank Jameis for making them relevant again.
February 22nd, 2017 at 8:24 am
Before jameis we were still winning a championship at FSU he did win one national and one acc before that we won 7 straight so how did he make them relevant tony I will wait…….

I agree. Now it might take a FSU quarterback to make Miami relevant again. Jameis, UF is on line 1!
Nm, not even Jameis can fix that.

Jameis just loves football and that is great compared to some slugs on the bucs defense….FSU fans are getting butt hurt that is awesome…FSU fan should be happy jimbo stayed in town and not in baton rouge who took farmer fran…as for the rays, which is my team but by now those jabronies can move to montreal with their double A roster

Jameis gives us hope for the future. It’s been a horrible seven years under the previous mentally weak, soft leadership. Licht you must eradicate the leader if the losing culture in order for Winston to take us to the promise land.

Not like he actually stepped onto UM’s campus and started working with the kid.
That’s a different animal. That, that would get a strongly worded letter from me sent to One Buc.
Yeah I love Jameis and all, but I’d have a problem with that.
lol LWD and Tony. Nice Tony, you’re right at the top of the thread. lol
February 22nd, 2017 at 9:20 am
The rivalry with UM in my mind has always been one of mutual respect over the years. Really no hate more like “well lets get it again then” when we face them. Now them dudes from gainsville that’s whole nother feeling, one I’ll keep to myself out of respect for jbf.
February 22nd, 2017 at 9:37 am
But Tony how did Jamies put FSU on the map when he is so inaccurate and just cant stop turning the ball over?
February 22nd, 2017 at 9:46 am
if you visit Canes 24/7 you can see the thread where Canes fans are cussing and spitting mad that Jameis is helping out their recruit. They call him every name under the sun, and those Bucs fans that support him were told to “turn in their fan card.”
If you visit Noles 24/7 then you will see a thread making fun of those Canes fans and not one person complaining that Jamies is helping the kid.
Not sure how Joe Bucs Fans turned this around to make it look like Noles fans have an issue with this.

Didn’t like Winston in college but respected his game. Bought season tickets for BUCS because they drafted him. Guy is a winner and I don’t care that he is a nole. Loved brooks and Dunn just as much as sapp. People crying and holding grudges about where a player went to school is ridiculous. Happy he’s helping Perry. Great to see canes and Bucs on he rise. Can’t wait for football!

There’s some good football players coming out of UM this season. We need speed at the WR position, then we should be looking at Canes WR Stacy Coley JR. We could get this Speedster in the 4th round, he may run in the 4.35 range at the Combine. Good size..6’1 195 Lb, played in a Pro-Style Offense.

I want to be like Jameis when I grow up.
In the spirit of 87:
Sometimes I dream
That he is me
You’ve got to see that’s how I dream to be
I dream I move, I dream I groove
Like Jameis
If I could Be Like Jameis
Like Jameis
Oh, if I could Be Like Jameis
Be Like Mike, Be Like Jameis
Again I try
Just need to fly
For just one day if I could
Be that way
I dream I move
I dream I groove
Like Jameis
If I could Be Like Jameis
I wanna be, I wanna be
Like Jameis
Oh, if I could Be Like Jaboowins

@L&WD
Lol I’m a gator and even i had to laugh. We seem to get lucky on a qb once every 30 years.
February 22nd, 2017 at 11:43 am
Tampa Tony must be a gator fan with that talk
February 22nd, 2017 at 1:00 pm
FSU last championship prior to Jameis 1999
Prior to Jameis they were consistently finishing up lower in the rankings or unranked. That’s bordering on irrelevant
And no I’m not a Gator, so try again losers
February 22nd, 2017 at 1:19 pm
DB55…the kid is just non stop.

Rejoicing!
February 22nd, 2017 at 3:04 pm
DB55, you can never , ever, put someone in the be like Mike commercial. That man is still a brand 30 years latet. Love Jameis, but no one can ever be like Mike.

Jameis was also Jimbo’s first QB recruit as head coach. They were unranked 3 of the last 4 years of Bowden. When Jimbo came on in 2010, they were ranked #17, #23, #10 in respective years leading up to Winston’s #1 Freshman NC year in 2013.
So, they were already ascending again before he became starter. Do they need to prove it with a NC without Jameis? Sure, but, they were already on the upswing before he arrived. It takes a great team to win a championship, not just a QB. Dan Marino understands this, do you?
Losers? You seem salty, little guy. Care to share your college team, or is easier to just give it out and not take it?

Chris
When the messiah gets his Pippen, Rodman, Kukoc, Kerr, Armstrong, Grant, Cartwright and Jackson you too will be signing his praise. Rejoice, Chris, for the kingdom of Jameis is here.

The thing I don’t get, is why Jumbo Fisher Red Shirted Jameis in 2012. E.J Manuel was Cow Manure, that didn’t make a lick of sense. That was a huge blunder by Jumbo Fisher.
February 22nd, 2017 at 5:09 pm
Last I checked Miami has always owned FSU, we have the most rings in Florida 5 can you count at FSU 5<3
February 22nd, 2017 at 5:18 pm
@Tmax
What is your deal with McCoy?? You take an article about a QB mentoring a college kid and turn it into bashing a defensive tackle. This obsession clearly goes past the football team. Please, try to enlighten us

Jumbo?
His system is complex, and it takes time to learn. I haven’t checked but, I would bet every QB he’s coached, even going back to his LSU days redshirted. The kid who transferred in from ND would be the exception, but, he floundered so…

Bernie
FSU has beat UM and UF four years in a row
