Get On The Phone To Mike Tolbert
February 21st, 2017It’s not time for Team Glazer to rent a jet, but at least get the in-house limo service on its way to Mike Tolbert’s house.
The Panthers cut their Pro Bowl fullback today and he’d look great in a Bucs uniform.
Dirk Koetter says he desires a fullback. Joe will assume Koetter prefers one that’s better than fragile, double-duty Luke Stocker and bust 2016 draft pick Dan Vitale.
Tolbert, 31, has made three of the past four Pro Bowls and is a real-deal short yardage back who can also catch the football.
He’s definitely a throwback to a nearly lost era in the NFL, a true do-it-all fire hydrant fullback at 5-9, 250 pounds.
Per Joe’s friends at BlackandBlueReview.com, Tolbert averaged 20 snaps per game last season for Carolina and “couldn’t hide his age.” But that doesn’t mean he is washed up. Fullbacks are very inexpensive across the NFL, and Tolbert also could represent another veteran for America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and a rookie running back to learn from.
What’s the harm in bringing Tolbert in for a conversation/physical — immediately?

I second the title to this article! Argh just said the same think on the last thread

*thing*
February 21st, 2017 at 2:40 pm
Sign Patrick DiMarco in free agency. Younger and has Koetter connection.
February 21st, 2017 at 2:43 pm
And coming from the stinking Panthers he could provide some inside intel.
February 21st, 2017 at 2:44 pm
If Patrick DiMarco escapes the talons of the Falcons, that’s the guy!
February 21st, 2017 at 2:46 pm
Makes perfectly good sense to me especially considering the 458 Italia about to be in the backfield.
February 21st, 2017 at 2:50 pm
Lol Tolbert he’s done in the lg. U think a run heavy team like the panthers are going to give up a “high caliber” rb/fb?
February 21st, 2017 at 2:54 pm
We gotta stop throwing roadkill in the back of the pickup! Geesh!
February 21st, 2017 at 2:55 pm
Man I hope that we get Derrik Barnett from Tennessee. Jeesh the kid had 33 sacks in 36 games!!
February 21st, 2017 at 3:09 pm
I’d rather them team make a play for Cameron Brates (former teammate)
FB Kyle Juszczyk (25)

February 21st, 2017 at 3:16 pm
Or
Draft
• FB -Sam Rogers, Virginia Tech
• HB -Jaylen Samuels, NC State
February 21st, 2017 at 3:18 pm
@LUV- 1,000,000% agree!
Not saying “no”, but, Tolbert’s over 30. As a FB, I don’t think that translates to more than a year or two before going to pasture!
February 21st, 2017 at 3:35 pm
Bucsfanman
Yeah – noticable drop in production last year – but he’s had a solid career.
Especially when you consider – he was an UDFA out of Costal Carolina.
February 21st, 2017 at 3:46 pm
Mike Tolbert has had a very solid career, but how many ’30-and-over’ players can the Bucs afford to keep on the roster? Every one we keep obviously means that’s one less young potential superstar that we’re developing. If we’re truly ‘building through the draft’ then it’s critical that we draft to our needs, develop our younger players intelligently, and provide them opportunities to get game-time. Then if they can’t hack it, we know early and it’s ‘next man up’.
February 21st, 2017 at 3:51 pm
i always liked this guy. just enjoy watching these bowling ball runners do their thing. that said, it would be an odd addition at this point since even at his very best he’s been more like a #3 RB\short yardage guy\closer and the bucs need more of a lead dog with martin out. he is definitely a complement to what Sims and Rodgers do but that leaves the team with no lead back AND no home run hitter. they have to tick at least one of those boxes with their RB addition, Quiz is good enough in short yardage when the line is doing its part
February 21st, 2017 at 3:54 pm
I am telling you guys. Everybody is sleeping on this kid, a CB, named Damontae Kazee out of SDSU. Kid has had 15 Ints in his last two years to go With 142 Tackles!

February 21st, 2017 at 3:55 pm
We could also probably take Freddie Stevenson out of FSU in the sixth maybe even the seventh round. The guy can catch, he’s pretty nimble, actually looks like he has decent speed, knows our potential RB and our QB already.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:12 pm
SB
I’ve been telling them about this kid for awhile.
This kid been picking’em off like that – since HS. #ballskillz
February 21st, 2017 at 4:18 pm
I rather draft FSU FB Freddie Stevenson in the 6th round.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:25 pm
LakeLandBuc
Stevenson is real nice – but I thought the samething about Chad Abram’s.
Jimbo always converts his lower tier RB’s to FB’s. They just never pan out in the league unfortunately. Hopefully Stevenson can BUC the trend.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:30 pm
But Stevenson’s ability to play special teams (X-LB) – might solidify him a roster spot.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:32 pm
I’m against this.
He only made the Pro Bowl because of popularity and name recognition. He didn’t deserve it.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:33 pm
LUV……..My Man! I didn’t know you were already on his train! Coll ish there. I think the kid is gonna make some noise. I think a shorter Casey Hayward. Just needs a couple years.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:37 pm
We dont need intel from tolbert …lol…we swept them this past season
February 21st, 2017 at 4:43 pm
The Bucs should be trying to keep getting younger not older. No thanks. Older has gotten them the basement for years.

@macabee
What No LUV for – Damontae Kazee, CB, San Diego State?
I was thinking he reminded me of a young Troy Vincent – coming out of Wis.
But the Casey Hayward comparion was a spot on though. An your right -he just needs a couple years to develop.
CB Brent Grimes | Ryan Smith
CB A.J. Bouye | Damontae Kazee | Javien Elliott
CB Vernon Hargreaves | Jude Adjei-Barimah
Wouldn’t be a bad look at all.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:46 pm
I think Sb might be on to somthing, anyone who has 15 ints in 2 years has to be doing something right. And a big hell no to Tolbert.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:47 pm
Who cares.. move on.
February 21st, 2017 at 4:48 pm
My bad
CB Brent Grimes | Ryan Smith
CB A.J. Bouye | Damontae Kazee
CB Vernon Hargreaves | Jude Adjei-Barimah
Contingency just in case Josh Robinson bolts in FA
February 21st, 2017 at 5:12 pm
I would take Rasul Douglas over both Cam Sutton and Damontae Kazee
February 21st, 2017 at 5:14 pm
I will check him out pops.
February 21st, 2017 at 5:23 pm
@luv & SB
Check out Fish Smithson S from Kansas (I think) great name plus the kid is a CRAZY ball hawk
February 21st, 2017 at 5:27 pm
Mike Evans GOAT
Above Average Balls Skills for the position
Subpar tackler though
February 21st, 2017 at 5:49 pm
Ive always been a tolbert fan
Tree trunk legs but not sure he has it anymore.Getting old.
February 21st, 2017 at 6:18 pm
Make yourself useful Licht and sign Tolbert. No brainer
February 21st, 2017 at 6:20 pm
And to actually comment on Mike Tolbert, I think I would pass. I’ve been all about signing vets this offseason so far. Garcon over Pryor/Stills, Campbell over JPP, Hankins over Poe, Quintin Demps over Tony Jefferson, etc.
When it comes to RB/FB tho, can’t go with an older vet because of the shelf life. I would rather see them pay more to DiMarco or Juszczyk for a longer deal than sign Tolbert as a “bridge” FB.
Now if you want to look towards the draft for a FB, and please lets go with a traditional FB this time and not a TE/FB hybrid like Vitale, I agree with everyone who mentioned Freddie Stevenson also Sam Rogers out of Virginia Tech would be a great pick.
February 21st, 2017 at 6:21 pm
If we are successful at signing every suggested player thus far…..our roster would have 643 players…..
February 21st, 2017 at 6:28 pm
He only made the Pro Bowl because of popularity and name recognition. He didn’t deserve it.
Bonzi
You have confused Tolbert’s pro bowl selection with the overrated soft GMC a.k.a. Cancer93
February 21st, 2017 at 6:34 pm
Licht this seems like a pretty good piece to the offense, go get him, guy tore up the bucs a few times
February 21st, 2017 at 6:40 pm
When my comment shows up ignore what I said about Hankins and Poe lol. Had the wrong Giants DT in mind
February 21st, 2017 at 7:08 pm
No thanks on old Tolbert
February 21st, 2017 at 7:10 pm
Amongst the worst lead blockers in the league last year. Hard pass. DiMarco would be a really nice get though.
February 21st, 2017 at 7:17 pm
I’m wit Dusty and Dallas. Koetter not asking him to come in carry the ball ten times a game. Just plow into a few bodies making a way for Dalvin to slide thru. Not worried about over 30 long as you are aware you prolly won’t be around but a season or two. Goalline situations could be useful as well.
February 21st, 2017 at 8:15 pm
NOSBOS….. need cook to get a failed piss test and fall to bucs and licht better pounce… i just think cook will destroy combine and never get to us… trade 2018 #2 plus this years #1 and go get dalvin…
February 21st, 2017 at 8:15 pm
NosBos you not interested in Freddie out of FSU? If we take Cook I feel like we should take Freddie Stevenson too. That chemistry in the backfield should be solid. Both played with Jameis already and Cook should already know the blocking tendencies of Stevenson.
February 21st, 2017 at 8:17 pm
LUVMYBUCS,
I remember the post. lol. I think Kazee is a a great little CB. I admit my bias. Kazee is 5-10, 184, 4.50 – too short, too little, too slow for my liking. We got enough smurf CBs now. Where’s Kazee going to play and who does he beat out? I like his highlight film but the Bucs need some size and speed on the outside. With Ryan Smith moving back to CB, gonna get crowded in the slot. As before, I could be wrong. lol.
Anyway, love your zeal and passion to help man the Bucs and your record speaks for itself. Good luck on your picks! Til next time.
February 21st, 2017 at 8:51 pm
macabee one of our small ballhawking CBs (Grimes) is getting older every year. Not to say he can’t still do it for two or three more years, but we can bring in this kid Kazee and Grimes could “bridge” him up real nice like, like how he’s doing with VH3 now.
February 21st, 2017 at 9:17 pm
IMO the thing about Kazee is we may be able to get him Late. Now, this said we have to consider that we haven’t seen FA yet, where we could land maybe 4 needs with 3 of them being bridge gaps and 1 of em being a 3 yr starter. That would Win FA and allow Licht and Co. to draft responsibly. (Yes I did) 🙂
February 21st, 2017 at 9:25 pm
This dude is gotten fatter that’s why they get rid of him. Out of shape and aging. Don’t waste money u can throw at Peterson or other FA on this guy.
February 21st, 2017 at 9:33 pm
SOEbuc,
Grimes is a rare exceptional small CB. You’re right Kazee may be coached up, but as you say he’s already tutoring another small corner in Hargreaves. Why take on another undersized student. I’ve already admitted my bias. I want a Xavier Rhodes on the outside. Johnthan Banks is proof that my preference doesn’t always work and I’ve been wrong too many times to make a convincing argument, yet my bias exists! If we pick Kazee, I’ll root for him as I do Hargreaves, but I spent a few nervous Sunday’s watching Hargreaves too!
February 21st, 2017 at 9:58 pm
Revis is an entire half inch taller than Vh3 and Brent Grimes. Gosh Darn it must be a hard half an inch.
February 21st, 2017 at 10:19 pm
Rasul Douglas 6′ 2″ 205 lbs. Size at CB can go a long way
February 21st, 2017 at 10:21 pm
I want the Ravens fullback in FA
February 21st, 2017 at 10:22 pm
SB says:
That’s what she said
February 21st, 2017 at 10:49 pm
I really wanted the bucs to sign him before he signed with the Panthers. Now he is too old and isnt a great blocker. 4 years ago i would have loved to have him. His impact at his current production level is barely worth a roster for most teams.
February 21st, 2017 at 10:58 pm
Lol Ocala. She must be a True size queen if Half inch is the Diff.
February 21st, 2017 at 11:24 pm
Last weekend I helped my friend stay put.
It’s a lot easier than helping someone move.
February 21st, 2017 at 11:25 pm
Lol, we’ll soon have another one in the books brotha.
Hope your picks work-out as well.
#HatTip
February 21st, 2017 at 11:41 pm
Kazee is a 4th round prospect. We don’t even have to covet him yet because FA, and the Combine will shape the Draft. Lets land Campbell and DJax or TPryor.
February 21st, 2017 at 11:44 pm
I can pretty much guarantee you guys that VH3 will be a different CB this yr. The game is slowing down and those ball-hawking skills will take over. I just hope that Grimes stays healthy for the yr. if we don’t get some CB depth.
February 22nd, 2017 at 12:19 am
I’ve always wondered how some of you have all this intel on college guys. Don’t you people work. Talking to you SB and Luv. Bwahahaha. Look, if the kid’s name don’t rhyme with Calvin Book, then it don’t matter.
February 22nd, 2017 at 12:31 am
Well I admit that I am not an Accountant in February which should be somewhat hectic cmurda. I am just a General Contractor in a High Altitude area where winter is my slowest point of the year. I have a great deal of down time where all I do is research Draft prospects and watch my Gators Basketball. Glad that we are relevant again so soon after Donovan’s departure. I have found myself to like College football over the last decade mostly because it helps me to know the kids that got drafted.
February 22nd, 2017 at 4:16 am
Haha SB. I’m just messing around. I like getting the updates about players to watch.
February 22nd, 2017 at 3:15 pm
Thanks for the nod “SB” I got amped when they cut him! ;))) you’ve heard it b4… “a bowling ball with knives” 🔪⚫️🔪
